I am 7 weeks 2 days pregnant and have my first early scan tomorrow for a heartbeat (or beats they put two back!).

I have generally been feeling pregnant, cramps, very tired, boobs have got bigger and hurt plus a little bit of nausea when I wake and constant trips to the toilet but even with all these symptoms I am still worried about the scan tomorrow that there won't be anything there or no heartbeat.

Can anyone give me some guidance on what to expect at the scan tomorrow please (plus some sucess stories!) thanks x

Morning all on a rainy Monday!

We had the private scan last night, couldn't have found out the genders even if we wanted to, one was facing away from us and the other had his/ her hand over the relevant bits! But everything was fine, one baby's growing at normal rate and the other above average - I blame OH (10lb at birth and 6' 2" now)...

I found Bravissimo very good thank you Cat, got my GG bra there a few weeks back. However I think I may still be going up a size or two - aaarrrgghh!

Fabuluce · 18/05/2015 08:40

How lovely for you Ruby Smile although I might be hoping for a c section if you're going to have TWO big babies!!

I still haven't had my appointment through for my 20 week scan - I have a midwife appointment on Thursday so I'll chase her on it then. I suspect that even though I made it very clear I was having a private scan at 12 weeks (the NHS scan at 12 weeks which would trigger the appointment for the 20 week scan) she forgot to organise it herself. I got the impression that the paperwork and admin side of her role wasn't what interested her!!

whittlefish · 18/05/2015 11:39

That's so rubbish fab I would def chase her up. They normally organise my next scan when I have mine at the hospital but I guess if you missed this because your me was pants that might be why it's missing. Can you phone the hospital directly maybe?

I have my glucose test on Wednesday which I a bit panicked about. Hopefully won't be sick or pass out from lack of food lol

RubySlippers77 · 18/05/2015 12:39

LOL Fab, you're right about the C section, I'll definitely be asking!! And how rubbish about your scan - I'm due mine in 3 weeks but apparently we don't get the appointment though till 2 weeks before at the most (because of course I have nothing else to do other than attend random appointment times at short notice!)

Good luck with the glucose test whittle, I hope all goes well! Can you take a snack just in case you need it?

whittlefish · 18/05/2015 12:41

Can't eat until after I'm done, they do a blood test then a surgery drink the. You have to wait for 2 hours then another blood test! I will take some so I can stuff my face as soon as I'm done tho lol

Blackandwhitecat3 · 18/05/2015 21:09

That gluten test sounds like a nightmare. Does everyone do it?

Good to hear your scan went well Ruby, sounds like your going to be making a lot of room for those two.

Is it possible to be showing at just 6 weeks? I've been covering a bump since Saturday. Eek! I'm quite slim, and it's a different shape bulge to where I might normally put on a bit of belly fat...worried people at work will notice Shock

Blackandwhitecat3 · 18/05/2015 21:10

"You're", sorry!

whittlefish · 19/05/2015 07:19

No blackandwhite only if you're at high risk of gestational diabetes due to weight etc or if it's in your family. Unfortunately as my dad has diabetes I have to be tested but my sister was when she was pregnant and she was fine so fingers crossed. Don't want to limit my diet anymore.

RubySlippers77 · 19/05/2015 13:10

Are you eating anything different Cat? I was bulgy early on but I think that was because my low carb, high protein diet was replaced with lots of toast Hmm

Fingers crossed for your test whittle!

I went to my local pregnancy club last night, very good, would recommend going if you ladies have one near you - they're run through the NHS/ local children's centres.

Verkey81 · 19/05/2015 20:47

Hi everyone and welcome to all newbies! I haven't been around for about a month as I've just started back at work full time and also work self employed in the evenings, to say I'm exhausted is an understatement! I've just spent about half an hour reading back through the thread! So exciting reading everyone's progress and all the different stages people are at! I'm now 18+3 weeks and have the next scan booked in on 1st June, my second trimester has been icky to say the least, the morning sickness has struck! Other than tiredness, sickness, heartburn and being huge already, everything else is dandy Grin Grin Grin still in shock this is even happening so ladies just starting out following bfps, I'm not sure that feeling ever goes! I'm just waiting for movement now... Been told it should be week 18 by the mw (who remains amazing... I'm very lucky) and everyone keeps asking if I've felt the 'fluttering' yet! Can't wait to see our little one again at our scan and finally find out if it's a boy or a girl so I can start getting things Grin we seem to be accumulating so much stuff just as gifts, we haven't bought anything so far! I'll try to get on here more often again but am always lurking and reading if not commenting! Always wondering how you're all getting on!

Blackandwhitecat3 · 19/05/2015 20:56

Not eating anything different, Ruby, I manage my diet carefully for food intolerance reasons. Feels like everything in my tummy has had a bit of a reorganisation! Could be twins.....

whittlefish · 20/05/2015 11:18

So had my GTT test very boring, very hungry and the drink was disgusting but at least it's over with now. Fingers crossed for good results. blackandwhite have you had a scan yet?

anroga · 20/05/2015 11:57

Hi girls glad to read everyone is still doing ok.

I had my 20 week scan on Monday and the baby is perfect which was a hugh relief, I feel like a weight has been lifted and now I can really enjoy my pregnancy!

Plus we found out that we are having a little baby boy!

Fab I would definately chase up your 20 week scan, remember what happened to me with the 14 week nuchal scan it was too late and that was all down to a disorganised midwife.

I will be honest I have found my midwife care/support etc useless so far real feel like I am doing this all on my own.

Excellent news Anroga, what a lovely feeling of relief for you. I remember your midwife grrrrrr. Did you put a complaint in about her or are you waiting until after the birth Wink

Any other scans coming up for the newbies? So exciting Smile and scary too. It's such a roller coaster.

I've got my 16 week midwife appointment so I think I'll speak to her about it then and be polite but pointed! Don't want to upset her enough to be difficult but enough to let her know I mean business - it's a fine line! But ultimately although they may have gone through this hundreds/thousands of times it is our first time and a good midwife should understand and respect this. Certainly the lovely people at the care unit I went to at my hospital in Oxford were lovely - perfect service - so we know it can be done.

In other news I think my lump may finally be becoming a bump! I'm struggling to hold it in now Smile this makes me feel ridiculously happy! Looking pregnant is all part of it isn't it Smile

Fabuluce · 20/05/2015 12:40

Well done on getting your GDD test out of the way Whittle, one more thing to cross off the list!

Verkey that seems inordinately unfair to have morning sickness now in the 2nd trimester Hmm So pleased you have a good midwife though, that's brilliant. I've been having a flickering feeling in my tum but I can't decide if it's wind or something significant!

Gillster · 20/05/2015 14:23

So glad your 20 week scan went well Anroga, must be quite a relief.

Hi Verkey, sorry about the late morning sickness. I assume things were fine in the first trimester?

Glad you're beginning to get a bump Fab, I'm looking forward to that too as at the moment I still think there might not be anything there despite the scan last week.

Currently 7+1 and taking each day as it comes. Also on a weeks holiday in Provence which has been lovely so far but quite a challenge on the food front! Once I'm back next week I need to chase up my booking in app with mid wife, get 12 week scan booked in and check with FC how they plan to wean me off the oestrogen.

In contrast to us ladies taking it very easy and holding back on purchases until we feel more confident of success is my ex personal trainer on FB. He was with his girlfriend of 3 months and she got pregnant. They're very excited about things which is great but there were pictures on FB yesterday showing the newly decorated nursery in blue with stuff in it and she must only be 17 or 18 weeks! Not sure how they will cope with the next 20 weeks given that they've pretty much sorted everything already. Aargh to have the naivety of an instadiffer! If I wasn't pregnant myself, I'd have totally stopped his FB news feed by now!

Blackandwhitecat3 · 20/05/2015 21:11

Congrats Anroga.

Fab which clinic in Oxford?

I had a bit of a scare this morning - a bit of spotting Sad. Saw my gp today and have a scan tomorrow. No spotting since first thing so feeling a bit more optimistic but I was a bit hysterical earlier. Fingers crossed.

Scan at the clinic on Tuesday which will be 7 weeks.

Gillster · 20/05/2015 21:30

You should be OK Cat but it's so scary when it happens. Hopefully your scan tomorrow should put your mind at ease. Are you using the progesterone suppositories? I think my spotting was down to the cervix being a bit irritated by these. Since then I alternate with the front door during the day and back door at night (ahem)! Let us know how it goes tomorrow, keeping everything crossed and hope you get to see a heart beat.

Blackandwhitecat3 · 20/05/2015 21:35

Yes I am, but I'm a back door gal! Who knows what it is... Hopefully nothing.

Gillster · 20/05/2015 21:40

In terms of duration it sounds less than my own spotting which lasted around 24 hours, started brown, went a bit red and back to brown. It may have been one of the embies disappearing. I'm sure all will fine. Unfortunately spotting is quite common and in particular for us IVF ladies. What time is you scan?

Fabuluce · 20/05/2015 22:06

I had some spotting at 11 weeks - ridiculously scary, especially as Gillster said for us IVF warriors who've been through so much but it is entirely normal for many of us.

I'm at the John Radcliffe Cat - will you be there too?

Blackandwhitecat3 · 21/05/2015 07:19

My scan is at 12 and yews Fab, same location.

I had heartburn last night and clearly had to obsess and analyse whether or not that was ectopic pain...woke up this morning feeling feverish and hot, now cold, was a bit woozy and nauseous...but ALL of that can be explained away by normal pregnancy symptoms anyway. It's impossible not to analyse and obsess. I didn't eat much yesterday so not surprising I might be a bit wobbly this morning, but I'm jolly glad I'm going to get checked out later today. I'm 6+3 so I guess there's a chance of a heartbeat, but I feel like I've got all the worries of the first scan plus this spotting worry all rolled into one!

Given all that, I'm quite calm!

Fabuluce · 21/05/2015 10:41

Good luck with your appointment Cat, let us know how it went. All those symptoms sound pregnancy related to me so will keep everything crossed for you.

I had my 16 wk midwife appointment this morning and all is well SmileSmile size is good, heartbeat is good, my bloods all came back as good so I don't need to have extra care at the special unit...it's all looking like it's panning out to be a normal pregnancy despite its inauspicious start and my terrible old age etc!! Yay!

Blackandwhitecat3 · 21/05/2015 13:55

All good! One little heartbeat thumping away. My heart melted :)

Gillster · 21/05/2015 15:19

Yay! So happy you were able to see a heart beat Cat. Pretty amazing eh? Was your DH with you?
