I am 7 weeks 2 days pregnant and have my first early scan tomorrow for a heartbeat (or beats they put two back!).

I have generally been feeling pregnant, cramps, very tired, boobs have got bigger and hurt plus a little bit of nausea when I wake and constant trips to the toilet but even with all these symptoms I am still worried about the scan tomorrow that there won't be anything there or no heartbeat.

Can anyone give me some guidance on what to expect at the scan tomorrow please (plus some sucess stories!) thanks x

I must say blackandwhite I really struggled not to tell my friends before 12 weeks but didn't want to tell work at all for some reason. If you feel like you want to tell people you should.

MummyPiggy87 · 11/05/2015 16:19

I know how your feeling, it'll be an amazing feeling and also I felt a huge weight lifted from worrying! We were ttc for 2 years (sperm issues) and finally got there! Scan at 6 weeks and at 8 weeks both were perfect! Good luck to you both, don't forget a hanky lol x

Gillster · 12/05/2015 23:17

I am also struggling not to tell people. We've told our close family and a couple of people from work but that's it. Think if I had any meet ups with friends I think I would really struggle.

I had a small bleed on Saturday night to went the EPU on Sunday to get it checked even though it had pretty much subsided by then. They said initially it was too early for a scan but they called the yesterday to say that my hCG levels were high enough to probably see something. I had the the scan today and there's one baby on board and there was even a heart beat. It was such a relief as you can imagine although I'm sure I'll be stressing in a day or two! Like you Cat, I'm struggling to think of anything else at the moment!

Fabuluce · 13/05/2015 08:22

How many weeks are you Gillster? That's great news about seeing the heartbeat Smile. Little bleeds are common but scary as hell. I hope the scan has reassured you a little.

St4rfish · 13/05/2015 14:28

Glad you got some reassurance Gillster. It's so bizarre seeing a blob with a heartbeat that you can't feel yet isn't it?
I've gone back to fretting here. Keep getting this yellow/very light brown watery leakage every day. Not much but enough to make me worry this is another MMC in the offing. They couldn't see any bleeding or cervix issues when I had my scan but still can't help worrying - it's not the white coloured stuff all the pregnancy books mention. WTF is it?!
Regarding telling people, staying quite tight lipped here, haven't even told my parents! Want to wait and see whether I make it past 12 weeks, don't want to jinx it Hmm

Gillster · 13/05/2015 19:10

I'm 6+1 Fab and counting the days until the next scan! On hols next week so hoping the time will pass a little more quickly.

Are you taking progesterone suppositories Star? Could the discharge just be related to that?

mrswishywashy · 13/05/2015 19:31

Blackandwhitecat3 · 13/05/2015 22:13

Been on the antenatal forum for a few days. Can't believe how many people get a BFP on TTC = 0 months! I feel so lucky to have a BFP from my first IVF, just hoping little peppercorn sticks.

I've had plenty to think about this week Gillster, it's all happening at work - has taken my mind off it a bit.

Star I think I read somewhere about it being normal to have lots of different discharge and/or cm in pregnancy. I'm afraid I can't remember where - my brain is on strike.

St4rfish · 13/05/2015 22:40

Thanks Cat Have heard different people say this too but still a worry, sick of the constant knicker watch! I'm feeling very lucky getting to this point after first IVF too (someone has to be first!)

No Gillster, not on progesterone anymore, that was just first two weeks after egg collection. I'm seeing midwife (finally!) for first time at the end of the week so guess I'll just wait to ask her.

whittlefish · 14/05/2015 07:33

Hi starfish I had this too and like you panicked even got DH to check as was convinced it was browny looking but bless he said (with no frame of reference) that looked ok. I still get lots of cm and it tends to change some times it has a little more colour sometimes clearer. Think it's just the hormone changes but as long as it doesn't smell or there is no blood think it's all ok but check with the midwife anyway as should put your mind at rest.

I meant to add onto the list above that I was TTC for 4 years and got BFP first time ICSI Smile
Hope the rest of your ladies are doing well?

Gillster · 14/05/2015 08:25

I have to say that it still irks me slightly as to how easily some people do get pregnant. They have absolutely no concept as to what some of us have had to go through.

whittlefish · 14/05/2015 10:50

Tell me about it gillster I have a friend who stuggled to get pregnant and had started investigations but then fell pregnant naturally and she is forever talking to me like she went through IVF as well. She had not idea the blood tests etc that you do at the beginning of investigations is nothing compared to actually going through IVF. The stress and worry not to mention the physical strain is horrible and that's all before you get pregnant. Then if you are lucky like we are for it to work I think you worry so much more than normal throughout the pregnancy as it's been so much harder to get this far. She keeps telling me to stop worrying so much and it's not that big a deal but honestly I want to slap her sometimes. I think if you haven't been through it yourself you can't truly understand how tough it is.

RubySlippers77 · 14/05/2015 21:13

Star I think what you're describing is completely normal - if you have a look at the NHS website it will hopefully put your mind at ease! It's very weird indeed seeing the little heartbeat in a tiny bean-sized thing, lovely, but strange Smile

I completely agree Gill and Whittle, I had a friend who was TTC for three months before falling pregnant (naturally) with her daughter, and she was worried that there was something wrong. Three months!! Honestly people who've never had the heartache of a prolonged TTC and/ or IVF will never understand - or a few well meaning people have said to me "well if it wasn't meant to be, it wasn't meant to be" - GRRRRRR

In better news, my bp was fine today at my antenatal clinic appointment, so now I don't have to go back for three weeks. Yippee! We listened to the heartbeats which was great BUT I couldn't face the 4 week wait for our next scan (the 20 week one) and impatiently booked a private scan for the weekend. Turns out because I'm expecting twins, the cost is £95 rather than £65! £65 I can cope with but in my head it's now £100 and seems like a waste of money when 'all' we get is a photo. Not sure what to do now - I'd still like the reassurance of a scan (and £95 for a private scan of twins isn't actually that bad, I guess) but £95 for a scan and a photo? Really?!?

Gillster · 15/05/2015 00:03

It will be money well spent if it gives you the reassurance you need Ruby. It could get expensive though if this is something you need to do every few weeks!

RubySlippers77 · 15/05/2015 08:17

Thanks Gill Smile I think I will do it - although OH is bound to moan at the cost! - as 8 weeks seems such a long time to wait between scans, I'm now 16 weeks and my next NHS one will be at 20 weeks. After that I'll be scanned at least once a month (because it's twins), which means not as long to wait as this time!

Wearing a new (well, new from
eBay) maternity top today and all I can say is, it may be size 12 for the bump but not for my boobs... I now have sympathy for anyone who's worn a corset!!

Fabuluce · 15/05/2015 09:43

Ruby you're a brave woman wearing that - can you nip out at lunchtime and get something else to wear (easier said than done of course as hardly anywhere stocks mat clothes in store these days grrr)? I hate wearing tight clothes at the moment but that could be because I just look fat not pregnant yet!!

anroga · 15/05/2015 11:14

Whittle Gillster no one understands what we have all been through unless they have done it aswell. It is annoying when it seems to happen to people all over the place easily. I agree that we worry more after getting pregnant through IVF or ICSI. A good friend of mine is starting it this year and she has not got a clue, she is carrying on as normal with drinking/partying at the weekends, hasn't read up on it, has only been TTC for just over a year but her partner is sub fertile and I am finding it SO annoying especially as they are getting treatment on the NHS and we had to pay!

Don't get me started on maternity clothes I think they are poor, poor, poor, I might be 38 but I don'ty want to look like a middle aged woman just yet! I am going shopping tomorrow as I am nearly 20 weeks now and am popping out of everything, my bust is bordering on offence!

Gillster · 15/05/2015 11:37

I feel like my boobs are out of control already and I'm only 6+3! I'm down to a choice of 3 bras and I'm not sure how much longer these are going to last.

anroga · 15/05/2015 11:46

Go to M&S they fitted me and I have these great comfortable soft supportives bras that are not those horrible maternity bras, I got measured at about 10 weeks and I had already gone up a cup size, god knows what they are now ha ha!

OP posts:
RubySlippers77 · 15/05/2015 12:40

My boobs have gone from an E to a GG and I'm only 16 weeks. I don't think size 12 maternity tops will fit much longer!!

I agree about the really poor choice of maternity clothes, got most of mine from eBay. Places that other people recommended such as Asda and H&M don't stock many any more! I found New Look to be the best so far.

whittlefish · 15/05/2015 12:57

I concur with maternity clothes, bloody nightmare, my wardrobe has shrunk to about 10 items as that's all the maternity stuff I have and nothing else will fit. I find new look very good, gap is good for tops etc and next isn't too bad either buts it's very difficult. I also got a few things in jojo maman Bebe not the cheapest but well made and comfy. I do agree that may clothes are very limited in their colour and design tho, I also found that h&m were cheap but all polyester so very hot and atatic

whittlefish · 15/05/2015 12:57

Static eve

whittlefish · 15/05/2015 12:58

Even! God can't type today

anroga · 15/05/2015 14:47

Well I just popped out at lunchtime and the woman in the chemist asked me when my baby was due (so it must be obvious now!) and then when I told her exclaimed wow your big aren't you??

Then I got back to the office and a customer congratulated me on being pregnant, then asked how old I was, when I said 38 he replied goodness you have left it late.............

SO IT BEGINS!!!

OP posts:
Blackandwhitecat3 · 15/05/2015 21:29

Yes I'm up from E to FF and bordering on G, at only 5+4. I think I need to buy a non-underwire to wear in bed, I was thinking something like a slogging if they make them big enough! And then going to get fitted properly too, things are too tender to be in a slightly the wrong size bra. I'm in town tomorrow so tempted to shop (but feel rather like I don't want to jinx anything buy actually buying official maternity stuff).

Anroga which were the bras you went for?

At the moment I'm wearing loads of dresses and hipster jeans. Tummy is not really a problem yet, it's smaller than when I was bloated through IVF, it's just about fitting my boobs into things! Ha ha. DH is delighted except that they're so sore they're out of bounds.

Ruby bravissimo sell clothes for big boobage, maybe some of them will fit over a bump too!

"Only" one and a half weeks to my scan. Nearly there!
