I am 7 weeks 2 days pregnant and have my first early scan tomorrow for a heartbeat (or beats they put two back!).

I have generally been feeling pregnant, cramps, very tired, boobs have got bigger and hurt plus a little bit of nausea when I wake and constant trips to the toilet but even with all these symptoms I am still worried about the scan tomorrow that there won't be anything there or no heartbeat.

Can anyone give me some guidance on what to expect at the scan tomorrow please (plus some sucess stories!) thanks x

Brilliant news Cat, that's excellent! A little gentle relief before you start stressing about the next one. Wink

After my glibness earlier I got home to find a letter saying that actually I need to have a Fetal cardiac echo and weekly Fetal cardiac monitoring. Wtf? Turns out my midwife hadn't received the letter yet and when I called the hospital they hadn't booked my echo either! So, now I'm just waiting for them to send me details of the echo and I have to book in some appointments for the heart monitoring. I guess at least I'll definitely know it's ticking along ok this way Smile what a palaver though.

Gillster · 21/05/2015 16:03

Why the echo Fab? What are their grounds?

whittlefish · 21/05/2015 17:41

That's great news cat so pleased for you must be a huge relief.

fab is that completely out of blue? Did they say why?

I saw my midwife today, baby is all well and heartbeat still strong but she phoned to get my results from the GTT yesterday and she said that my levels are I the normal range but towards the top of it so have to go back in 2 weeks to retest. Grrrr I really hoped that wouldn't happen. Also booked in for my whooping cough vaccination. Can't believe how many appointments I have I never seem to be in work these days lol

Blackandwhitecat3 · 21/05/2015 22:23

Gill I was all on my tod, DH abroad and DM away. We have our scan at the clinic on Tuesday so DH will be able to see it then. Can't believe how amazing that was. And such a relief. What a day....

Gillster · 22/05/2015 06:09

That must have been so scary on your own Cat. Glad your DH can see the scan in a few days time. I'm 7+3 today and wondering if I can hold out until the 12 week scan!

Blackandwhitecat3 · 23/05/2015 09:23

Thanks Gill. 5 weeks is a long time isn't it?!

How are you doing Fab

Whittle have you had your test results?

Fabuluce · 23/05/2015 09:59

5 weeks at this stage does seem forever - I was lucky as I had scans at 10, 11 and 12 weeks - 10/12 were to do with Harmony testing and 11 was to check all was ok after a small bleed. It made me feel monitored and comforted I must be honest.

I'm ok - I managed to mostly sort out the muddle. Turns out thankfully that I got a copy of the letter from my obstetrician to my GP that my GP didn't receive! So when I saw my midwife she hadn't seen it so told me everything was ok as, as far as she was concerned, it was! I have however high anti-nuclear antibodies which means there is a tiny risk that it could effect the baby and could give it heart problems. They only tested this as I was tested and treated for auto-immune issues for this last round of IVF and I am convinced the treatment is what made this round work. The best way to deal with this is to monitor from 17 week to 28 weeks with a weekly fetal heart monitor and a fetal cardiac echo between 18-20 weeks so again I shall be being monitored closely. If the baby's heart starts to slow down they will then treat me with steroids and hopefully that will make the difference. It's a very small chance of anything going wrong so hopefully it's just a case of erring on the side of caution! It's completely confused my GP's surgery though - they don't seem to know what to make of it - all the need to do is shove a Doppler on my tum and do a bpm check once a week - it's not hard!!

whittlefish · 23/05/2015 14:04

Oh blimey fab what a palava at least they all now seem to know what's happening and at least you at being monitored which is good.

My results were very confusing cat had my mw appointment on Thursday so she phoned for results and they said they were within normal range which was good but my mw said because they were towards the top end of that I would have to retest in two weeks. Was gutted. Then on Friday got a letter from the hospital to say that everything was normal and no mention of a retest so phoned them and told them what he midwife said and they said that the guidelines have changed and now as long as you are in normal range now retesting required. So relieved I can't tell you didn't want to do that again. My arms are all bruised from the blood tests look like I have been doing drugs lol. Got my whooping cough vaccine on Wednesday tho too

Blackandwhitecat3 · 25/05/2015 11:04

whittle good news on your test results (eventually!).

Starting to get myself worked up and worried about tomorrow's scan already. It's amazing how much you can convince yourself to worry about everything, especially when it's a bank holiday weekend with no work to take my mind off it. Smile going to try really hard to be zen-like today, and worry like hell be totally calm.

whittlefish · 25/05/2015 19:59

cat totally been there is this your first one? I was a nervous reck before ours, was completely convinced that there would be nothing there felt so sick before hand but everything was absolutely fine and completely amazing.

Blackandwhitecat3 · 25/05/2015 20:06

My first pregnancy but my second scan. What I'm obsessing mildly worried about is that when I had my scan on Thursday they measured it and said I was 5+4 but I know from IVF dates that I was 6+3 or 6+2 at a push I suppose. So my worry is that it's not growing at the right rate, even though they told me the measurement at such an early stage is really inaccurate and not to worry.

So tomorrow we'll see how much it's grown since Thursday, and just really hoping all this tiredness all weekend means it's been growing lots!

I think my current hormone cocktail must be a worry one, I've been worrying about everything in my entire life this weekend. Let's hope the rest of week 7 is a calmer one!

Cheshirehello79 · 25/05/2015 23:12

Don't panic I conceived naturally but had spotting at 7 weeks and went to early pregnancy unit in which they took scan . You don't see much it's more like a beanie my baby was only 7mm but you can see the heart beat which is what they look for and check that both your ovaries are ok and that there's no blood or water in there . Good luck - it is magical

Gillster · 26/05/2015 05:17

Good luck with the scan today Cat. Try not to worry too much about the dates. I'm surprised they dated it earlier than you thought on your last scan as didn't think they could detect a heart beat much before 6 weeks. Keeping everything crossed for you.

Glad all the confusion about the extra monitoring has been sorted out now Fab. Hopefully it will be an extra comfort for you.

Fabuluce · 26/05/2015 07:14

Good luck with the scan today Cat, I'm sure all will be well. I had one scan where they put me about a week behind then a week later I was back on track again, at the early stages the embie is so small that it's really hit or miss whether they get the measurements correct so I wouldn't worry to much about that. At this stage it's all about whether your embie has a good heartbeat. Scary times but hopefully good times for you today.

Thanks Gill - once I've had my GP appointment on Thursday I'll feel more confident that they know what they're talking about!!

RubySlippers77 · 26/05/2015 10:22

Hi everyone [waves]

Just catching up on what's been happening with you all!

Anroga, congratulations on your baby boy Grin it must be a big load off your mind to know that all is fine at 20 weeks! If OH and I have boys we're a bit stuck, as we can't agree on any boys names..... and I too am very confused about my midwife appointments, after my 8 week one I don't seem to have another until 24 weeks, whereas other people are having them at 16 and/ or 20 weeks as well. It doesn't make much difference for me as I'm at the antenatal clinic a lot anyway (next appointment is a week on Thursday!) but it'd be helpful if things were clearer.

Sending you lots of good wishes for the scan today Cat, and for what it's worth I too think it's difficult for them to date the baby so accurately at such an early stage. When we had our 6 week scan to check if we were having twins we were told they don't even always see a heartbeat then - luckily they did on ours, but it's not unusual to not see one.

Oh Fab, what a muddle over your tests and appointments! Hopefully they will sort it out soon and confusion will no longer reign. It doesn't sound like it's that difficult to get right, they just need to be organised and up front with you about what's happening and why!

Are you all recovered now from being poked and prodded (and injected!) Whittle?

I'm now 18 weeks as well Verkey and I can't decide if what I feel is movement or just my tummy! I did have an odd sensation in my abdomen that was like little feet being pressed on it, and then found out yesterday that the babies are feet downwards, so who knows.....

Hugs to everyone and apologies to anyone I've missed out!

We had a bit of a scare yesterday, we were out and about and I had a bit of bleeding - not a huge amount and not bright red blood, horrible sludgy brown stuff, but I'm Rhesus Negative so it involved a trip to hospital Sad as we were about 45 mins drive from home we went to the nearest hospital which was lovely, great doctors, not too long a wait etc. They gave me a scan and a quick internal check and said there had definitely ben some bleeding, but everything looked ok now with me and the babies - the cervix was long and closed which is a good sign, apparently. However I then had to go to our local hospital (where I'll have the babies) for the anti-D injection and as they won't see women at the maternity unit until they're 20 weeks, it involved a 3 1/2 hour wait at A&E. Not what you want on a bank holiday!! All seems ok today though, tiny bit of bleeding but none overnight, just trying to take it easy today.

Blackandwhitecat3 · 26/05/2015 10:35

ruby that all sounds quite stressful, rest up well today.

Our scan went well. We got the heartbeat again and all is fine. Mini-cat obviously heard the doc say last week that it was small for 6 weeks as it has allegedly grown 5mm since Thursday (I'm guessing that's growth spurt + inaccurate measurement last week). No wonder I spent all weekend asleep. It's now around the right length for 7 weeks so very happy and they gave us a few pics too Smile.

Gillster · 26/05/2015 18:57

Great news Cat Smile. Can you wait until the 12 week scan though?

The stress never ends, does it Ruby? Glad things are all OK now though. Make sure you take it easy.

Blackandwhitecat3 · 26/05/2015 22:38

I think I going to wait. Just trying to get my head around all the different possible scans and tests.

whittlefish · 27/05/2015 07:22

Wow ruby that sounds very stressful and scary but glad to hear your all ok. I've got my whooping cough vaccine today but hopefully that's the last of needles for a while then my 28 week scan tomorrow which is quite exciting. She is moving all he time so will be interesting to see the scan now.

So pleased that it all went well yesterday cat must be such a relief so see baby all ok.

Hope everyone else is doing well Smile

Gillster · 27/05/2015 20:25

Just got a date for a booking in appointment with the midwife - 9th June. Strangly quite excited!

Fabuluce · 27/05/2015 23:22

It should be exciting but sadly midwives aren't as excited about this one as we are! It's a lot of form filling, blood taking, pee taking etc but you do get your official baby folder which is pretty cool as you know you're finally in the system Smile

I've just got my 20 week scan date through and despite it being booked late it will actually be a little early at 19+4 haha! Excited though - it feels like a long time since we saw our little bean!

Fabuluce · 27/05/2015 23:23

Does everyone have the whooping cough vaccine Whittle? I don't think I could ever be funny about needles following IVF - I've had more needles stuck in me and blood drawn than I ever thought possible!

Gillster · 28/05/2015 06:34

I think your "little bean" is not so little anymore and is more of a mango now Fab. Smile

whittlefish · 28/05/2015 07:29

I think they recommend it fab after you are 28 weeks as it protects you and baby until they are old enough to have their own vaccination. It's not compulsory a bit like the flu jab but I figured if they are recommending it would be silly not to, as you say what's another needle after all the ones we've had lol. It was fine really got a bit of a sore arm today like being bruised without the bruise but that's it. I've got my 28 week growth scan today so figures crossed she is growing nicely

Fabuluce · 28/05/2015 07:41

Ooh yes, good luck with today's scan. Gosh, only 12 weeks to go now for you - I bet they go a lot quicker than the first 12!!!

Apparently tomorrow it will be a sweet potato! That's a bit of a loose description in my books as I've seen some small and some huuuuge sweet potatoes!
