Mel I'd say now isn't the time to worry about your weight. If you're eating healthily then don't worry - it's one of the almost inevitabilities of pregnancy that you'll put weight on (I do have one friend who weighed less after she gave birth than when she conceived but that's just odd). Just think of it as your body's way of caring for your baby (but don't use it as an excuse to eat cake ALL the time!). I do realise hormones don't make such rational thought easy though. And yay for being low risk - that's definitely a good thing, and for your supportive boss.

MelB2014 · 11/03/2015 12:05

Thanks stick my rational head knows you are right and my weight really is the last thing I should be worrying about. I will have to make more of an effort to not eat crap all the time (all I want to eat is carbs and cheese at the moment). I know I will get bigger and my husband also reminded me a lot is probably water retention.

The hormones are not helping!

Treaclepie19 · 11/03/2015 12:08

Mel some midwives will let you do slimming world.
For me pregnancy has made me lose 8lb but that worries me more than putting weight on!

Mel if you're planning on breastfeeding you may find this really helps with weight loss. I ended up lighter than pre pregnancy, until I put i it all back on through mc/ttc comfort eating. You can try and eat healthily through pregnancy though it is hard. I have to now because of gestational diabetes and am hoping it might help.with weight loss after.

Yeay re good scans and good luck missmakesstuff. We are all creeping up the stats list. I will be top ten once your baby is here.

SomeSortOfDeliciousBiscuit · 11/03/2015 13:56

I had my booking-in appointment yesterday and had the midwife in hysterics over my medical history (in a good way). She kept phrasing the questions like '... And I suppose this doesn't apply?' and I kept having to go 'Well, actually...' She got to the question about rhesus negativity and said 'I'm not even going to ask you, I'm just going to tick yes.' I confirmed she was right and we were both giggling like idiots.

Mel I asked about Slimming World, because I am a member but haven't been for a few weeks since finding out I was pregnant and piled at least half a stone on. It's perfectly safe to do in pregnancy and I think you have extra food allowances compared to non-pregnant members, but SW have a form the midwife needs to complete, to give permission.

There are also rules around what you're allowed to lose and if you lose too much, you have to complete food diaries and check with your midwife that it's still ok. I think it's more to help maintain your weight than to achieve great big losses, because we shouldn't be doing that.

I'm going back to my class on Monday, so I can find everything out if anyone is interested.

longestlurkerever · 11/03/2015 14:00

I got my free prescription form at the go antenatal clinic which was before the booking in appointment but think the mw would have given it at the booking in appointment otherwise. It's a long appointment so best to find some childcare if that applies, rather than take dc with you.

happygojo · 11/03/2015 14:33

I was thinking of SW too, I tried it a while back but didn't do very well, but that was my own fault because I would eat loads of things like muller lights which are 'allowed' and 'free' but you won't lose weight if you eat loads of them.

I have a craving for smoked mackerel, you know the really stinky stuff. It is hot smoked but I still don't know if it is 'allowed'. I know it is an oily fish so therefore only 2 portions a week but is hot smoked fish ok?

I think I am eating too many carbs but what I actually am craving is protein. I could devour some steak and cured meat and fish right now.... literally in a bowl.... like chocolate

longestlurkerever · 11/03/2015 14:37

Yes I think smoked fish is fine. Even smoked salmon which isn't cooked.

MelB2014 · 11/03/2015 14:55

I think smoked fish is fine as it is cooked/cured, smoked salmon is definitely OK.

I lost 2.5 stone a few years back without WW/SW just cutting back on food a bit and exercising 4 times per week. i used to run a lot but the last few months with my first PG and then the MC have just ruined my entire routine and I haven't got it back (and the weight has piled on). I'm hoping that once I get to that 'feeling better' 2nd trimester stage I'll be able to do some more exercise again... at the moment just walking my dog for half an hour round the park leaves me exhausted.

I need to swallow my pride and go and buy some bigger clothes

worriedmum100 · 11/03/2015 14:57

Hi all. Had my 12 week scan this morning and all looks fine! He/she looks exactly as I remember DS so my money is now on a boy. Just got to get through to Saturday and the results of the harmony test then I might try and relax a bit.

happygojo · 11/03/2015 15:39

OMG THANK YOU.....

I may now eat all the fish (within the 2 portions a week guidelines of course)

Nom Nom Nom!

Mslad · 11/03/2015 17:52

Hi all, I've been away for a few days and just catching up now. Congratulations little North and worried on fab scan news Smile

I had really thought that smoked salmon (one of my favourite foods) was 'banned' and only realised last week that the nhs say it's ok....but I still haven't had any, in my head it's still on the 'bad' list. Ridiculous I know!

worriedmum100 · 11/03/2015 18:55

ooo, I really fancy smoked salmon pasta now. With dill and creme fraiche. Perhaps my nausea is finally easing up!

Thanks for the congrats. I am really happy but will finally relax after Saturday (assuming all ok wuth Harmony) . Will find out sex too which I'm very excited about.

Phryn · 12/03/2015 08:22

Hey ladies,

Just checking back in....

Fantastic news tanny and happy. So chuffed for both of you. Hope all is going well - it's always so lovely to hear that this whole pregnancy thing can work out and end in a baby Grin

Great news from the recent scanees. Hopefully it can put your mind at rest for a bit even if just for a small bit

I'm 27+5 here, start of the third trimester and starting to get more rotund day by day it feels! I was working from home yesterday and tried to reach something on the coffee table from the sofa. Previously a bend and stretch would have got it easily. Now it's a case of wiggle whole body closer and then lean in (which feels so much harder than before). Either that or some cheeky bugger has moved the coffee table a bit further way Wink.

Also - in a burst of posifricitivity we painted the room that will be the nursery last weekend. Going to put the normal spare room furniture back in it till nearer the time but that felt like a massive act of faith which I really wasn't ready for even a month ago. Just wanted to encourage all you first and second trimester folk that are feeling scared and wobbly that it can and does change but that everyone has their own timescale. I know I'll still have my wobbly moments but right now I'm in a good place Smile .

Mslad · 12/03/2015 10:15

Lovely post phryn - great to hear you're having posifricitivity moments Smile Hope all of us here feel them more often

Littlelady33 · 12/03/2015 11:57

Loving the positivity Phryn! I'm also feeling pretty happy since the 20wk scan so perhaps it's catching!

happygojo · 12/03/2015 12:04

Hi everyone.... having a mini meltdown.... I STUPIDLY went onto the babycentre birth club thread on my phone. I shouldn't even have the bloody app. There was threads about late miscarriages (17 weeks). I was feeling all super positive and now I feel like pre-12 week fear!

I am sure I was nudged last night a couple of times, but then I think that is stupid because I shouldn't be feeling proper nudges at 18 weeks. Shouldn't it still be 'butterflies' and flutterings?? maybe it is all in my head.

11 sleeps til scan. I just hope everything is ok

longestlurkerever · 12/03/2015 12:09

happy I haven't had any flutterings or butterflies this pregnancy. The earliest kicks were sporadic but proper boots to the stomach. Congratulations.

Great news about the nursery phryn - I have done the same. It is really just white but I might even start ordering some wall stickers and stuff soon.

Lovely scan news.

What is the "best shit place to be grads thread for people who were previously on the ttc after mc thread" that's in active convos? I thought that was this thread?

Treaclepie19 · 12/03/2015 12:12

lurker, the newer people to the ttc after mc made their own thread.
I think we probably need a better link to the ttc after mc thread. They didn't seem to understand this was a place for all stages i don't think.

Glad you're feeling positive phryn :)

Happy I don't think the worry ever properly goes away, when's your next scan?

Yeah the 'best shit place to be TTC after MC' thread seem to have a real rush of BFPs recently so they don't feel ready for this thread. I like this thread though because I feel like I have people to get advice from, as well as people who I may be able to help as I have been where they are.

Scan is on the 23rd March. I heard the HB last at 17 weeks.

I keep thinking that there must be a reasonable explanation for feeling something moving inside me..... but my mind can't really compute that the actual most reasonable explanation is that I have a wriggling bell pepper in my uterus that is having a boogie

gingerbreadmam · 12/03/2015 12:29

ive been posting a bit on both altho im 8+5 now so feel like im getting more to the out of the woods bit.

i think they are happy enough for people to pop in and chip in especially if relevant to the convo.

they were on about harmony tests today and i seem to recall a few people on here had them done so pointed them over here for info if they need it.

i like both boards tbh. its lovely seeing all the success on here and really encouraging however when u r scared i think it can also set u off wondering if you will get as far as other peoples milestones if that makes sense.
