Pregnant .. Maybe .. At my age ????

Hi every one :) Google brought me here ... So.. I'm 48 ! A week late , feeling sick and boobs feel ready to explode !!! Never ever late !! Had my last child at 41! That was a surprise! 2nd at 26 and first at 18 ! I also have had 3 mc. Last one 4 years ago so guess I am v fertile !!! Maybe it's perimenapause? Maybe I'm kidding myself ? I'm terrified I could be p!! Keep thinking don't be so bloody stupid ! ( my OH s opinion ) or I am as I know my own body ! Can't stop hypo ventilating ! Any one else been p at this age ? Oh and I have a 10 year old grandson and a 5 month grand daughter ! Oh the shame :(

ArEgg ! So much for early finish ! Stil stuck at work :( should I do test this evening or wait till the morning pee ? Nearest shop is local tesco , so think only have own brand tests ? Anyone know how sensitive they are ? Never met my gp ! Changed when we moved 4 years ago ! Only ever seem to visit when pregnant ! Be an interesting first visit !!

I don't think you have to wait for early morning pee once passed due date of period ?

I think they are v sensitive now a days so shouldn't have to wait till morning ..hint hint

Tesco have lots of brands. Good luck....it would be a shock but it's nothing to be ashamed of.

Good luck whatever happens and whatever you decide. I had my one and only baby at nearly 46. It sounds from your tone like you do actually want to be pregnant. If that is the case, and you are, try to look around the financial pickle you are in now and see what you can do to make it work. IVA should help and can be a great relief. Sometimes there are life options you don't think of when in a panic...

Buy more than one test just in case. Do one this afternoon and then if you feel like you want it confirmed or whatever, do the other one with your morning pee tomorrow.

The own brand tests have always worked fine for me. And at this stage no need to wait until morning! Good luck x

It's worth being aware that your own levels of HCG rise as you start the menopause which can give you a false positive on a pregnancy test. If you get a positive result, you need to see your GP to clarify exactly what is going on.

Gosh I'd never heard of false positives at start of menopause ! Cue closing office door and googling frantically ... Clear blue state that 4% of 'older ' ie 40+ woman will get a false positive result !

You still need to test though. If it's positive then your GP will be able to do blood tests to see if your HCG levels are doubling every 48 hours or just marginally high.

Just to state I used pound shop pee sticks and never did a morning wee! 3 positives (two dcs and one bump). You definitely need to test and I highly doubt you will be in that 4 percent. If the test comes back pos the doc will check your hcg levels and double check for you though as noroom has said!
