28 week midwife appointment after that. Had a scan while abroad. While it confirmed no anomalies (yay! Smile) they did say the neck of my womb was a little short, which might indicate baby may come early, and the umbilical cord was partly around baby's neck - both of which worried me of course. So need to discuss with midwife. Really frustrating that there are no scans in the UK after 20 weeks... Want to request closer observation but don't know how that will be taken... Hmm Any advice and similar experiences?

thesmallbear · 10/12/2014 12:31

Good luck today Liesal.

Well I've told everyone at work now. I know it's a very individual choice when to announce, but for me it feels like a weight off my shoulders and like I can finally start to enjoy things now. I'm 10 weeks and have had three positive scans so I'm happy with my decision. It's much easier than making up excuses for not drinking, when people will put two and two together anyway!

Rikalaily · 10/12/2014 14:24

Good luck Liesal!

silverine · 10/12/2014 15:25

So midwife has stuck to her guns: "scan after 20 weeks give no new info, can cause panic, etc. etc"... Sad Might make more trips to hospital for heartbeat traces for reassurance and book a private scan later on.

silverine I'd be like "ARE YOU SURE BECAUSE I'M PRETTY CLOSE TO PANICKING RIGHT NOW!
I've discovered that going all psycho crying freakout normally gets it done!

Sorry you can't get another scan silver. I would be worried too. I guess private may be the way to go.

liesal79 · 11/12/2014 01:53

Still here! Contractions 2 mins apart, morphine not touching them, they only started kike this at 10. Another check at 2am, where hopefully they will take out the pessary & move me to delivery suite! I'm not gonna lie, ow! But if I can do this girls - so can you!!!

thesmallbear · 11/12/2014 07:19

Good luck liesal. Hope you get to meet your baby soon!

silverine · 11/12/2014 08:37

Go on liesal you can do it! You must be cradling your LO by now.
Thanks ladies, the midwife seemed convinced there was nothing to worry about. I guess it might mean me making some trips to the hospital for traces if kicks are quieter and a private scan at maybe 36 weeks to check position, etc.

Mslad · 11/12/2014 09:50

Thinking of you liesal

I heard the heartbeat at the midwife's yesterday, so i'm in that rare stage of not feeling completely full of doom. It's a nice and unusual feeling- wonder how long it'll last.

Phryn · 11/12/2014 10:06

Go liesel! I really hope all went/is going well and that very soon you'll be enjoying newborn cuddles.

mslad I know what you mean about the reassurance haze. I hope it lasts and comforts longer than you expect. I've got my next midwife appt in 1.5 weeks and I'm planning to ask them to listen to the heartbeat even if they don't offer. I've chosen not to go down the doppler route so would love to hear it again as I'm not feeling movements (or at least anything I recognise) yet (I'm 14+5 and it's my pregnancy that's got this far).

Mslad · 11/12/2014 10:23

I think it's like a drug Phryn I get a real high after a successful appointment (especially after having many bad news appointments) which then begins to wear off and it's back to worry. I was tempted to get a doppler too, but have resisted as I'm trying not to become too obsessed (ha!) and know that I would really panic if I couldn't find the hb. I'm 17+3 and still no movement, even though I have a posterior placenta. I feel like I have now become consumed by hoping feeling a movement, but anytime I think I feel something, it's is always bloody gas! Angry Blush Good luck with your next mw appointment. It probably feels like ages away, but it will come.

EssexMummy123 · 11/12/2014 12:31

"Really frustrating that there are no scans in the UK after 20 weeks.." say's who? any midwife can refer you for a growth scan after 20 weeks.

liesal been thinking of you today and hope you've got your LO in your arms and so are just too busy to type! :)

I had a GP appointment day before yesterday, nothing exciting and now got to wait for the mw appointment which won't be until the new year. I'm sure time has slowed down! 5+4 today!

Babytinx11 · 11/12/2014 18:27

silver I would be trying to still push your midwife I am booked for scans at 32 and 36 weeks I also had scans at 25&27 weeks so I'm not sure where she is getting her information from Hmm either way without having been able to catch up properly I hope everything is ok :)

liesal hope all is going well and your having lovely newborn cuddles now :)

Does anyone know anything about what babies heartrate should be? I have just spent another 2 nights in hospital after a bleed and now I am home on strict orders to monitor babys movement because her heartrate kept going above 200bpm and they weren't sure why feeling a bit confused by it all in fairness Hmm do wish they would just fix my kidney rather than keep fobbing me off because the idea of going through all this for another 11 and a bit weeks is to say the least upsetting me :(

Skinnylegs33 · 12/12/2014 15:00

Ladies,

Just a quick hello.
Pregnant for the 3rd time since August 2013. Last 2 pregnancies ended up with mmc:
September 2013 at around 6w and
April 2014 at 7w2d
I've worked out that I should be 6w2d today and even though the EPAU that had seen me with my previous mmc had invited me for a scan next week I said I will wait until 9 weeks.
How brave of me! Im not sure I can hold onto that but ideally would like to leave it as long as possible to avoid the stress of maybe seeing a hb now but having to worry about how it will progress. Even though seeing a hb would be a first for me ??
My gp has advised that 9 weeks will be a good compromise. He also stated the obvious, saying the scan will not change the outcome.
I'm an extremely anxious person but fx I won't lose it over the next few weeks.
I'm absolutely petrified :(

Still thinking of liesal and hoping she is blessing out with newborn Smile
skinny welcome and you're in the right place for hand holding and support. The limbo feeling is awful and I think you are very sensible and brave to wait until 9 weeks Smile
baby I hope you're okay and that you don't keep getting fobbed off. You.must be exhausted- sending hugs Flowers

Got my scan appt through- 2nd January. Really really not feeling pregnant today at all. Ugh it's awful!
Thoughts with everyone struggling Smile

Babytinx11 · 12/12/2014 15:49

Tired and fed up the hospital say next to nothing about anything and I am now worried my waters are leaking i've had enough Sad

catbus · 12/12/2014 15:52

Oh baby
If you suspect waters leaking definitely call. Do they have a sweetish smell? Is it a lot?

HollyBen · 12/12/2014 16:27

Checking in for news from leisal

Really feel for you baby I hady 28 week midwife apt yesterday and she record hb as 140. She just said good strong hb so assume it is normal. If you think your waters are leaking you should contact the hospital. Hang in there x

thesmallbear · 12/12/2014 17:25

Welcome Skinny and I have everything crossed for you that this will be your sticky bean.

Hope you get answers soon Baby.

Skinnylegs33 · 12/12/2014 18:41

Thank you all so much for your good thoughts! Flowers

Baby, I hope it will get better for you soon. Have they not said anything to you in terms of what could cause the rapid heart rate? I remember reading that for girls is higher than boys ( or was it the other way around?!) and it gets affected by many things: baby's movement, the mum being stressed, caffeine intake, thyroid hormones etc. I think 180-190 it's still nothing to worry about, not sure about 200. It can't be too bad if they let you go home.
How are you feeling now, any better?

On a different note, gp has advised to get a flu shot as its flu season he said and they advise all pregnant women, no matter how far along ... I'm not sure how I feel about it? Have you ladies done it?
