In her book Prof Regan is huge on lots of reassurance scans... she's had data that suggests that with no other differences, women who felt "taken care of" with good care, inc reassurance scans, in early pregnancy after MC had lower rates of MC than those who didn't. I also had a private one in between my two NHS ones as I'd booked it anyway, for me 100 quid is nothing compared to the week or two reassurance you feel after it! (after 2 weeks I feel just fine flipping the f**k out again!)

charlie I know - I have the book. I don't know what to do as they don't take self-referrals but neither do I want to lie to them and say I have symptoms when I don't. I'm really freaking out now :(

charlieis30 · 12/01/2015 15:37

i managed to have one at 5.5 because i was having cramps and sharp pains on one side that took my breath away each time. i was having full-on panic attack crying in the epu so they agreed to scan me then. again, i wasnt pretending, i really was freaking out after I'd called 111 for advice and they told me to go to epu for suspected ectopic.

I'm in two minds about early scans. I'll have to have one because with a defective c section scar and Ashermans they'll need to know exactly where the baby has implanted. When I had the last MMC I was back and forward for scans before they would confirm anything. I knew there was no hope as I knew my dates so found it hard to keep having them. I promised myself if I ever got pg again I wouldnt even think about a scan until 8 weeks so that if there was no h/b at least I would know for sure. But think I'll have to steel myself for one at 6 weeks again.

broodylicious · 12/01/2015 15:57

tori, that sounds like the kind of service I'd expected - to be scanned when I got pg after my mc. I had a full on breakdown when my mw said no referral for early scan. She said they don't have capacity or finances to fit everyone in because it's so common and in her opinion (her opinion, prob as someone who has not ever mc!), early scans are pointless because so early on, anything could happen between 4-12 weeks. I felt really let down tbh. It wasn't as though I had a cp - I was 12 weeks when I mc! *btw i am not subscribing to the "only 4 weeks gone, not really a baby" stuff by saying that, a loss is a loss and it's heartbreaking whenever it happens, I'm just making the point that I was far along.

CommanderShepard · 12/01/2015 16:03

That's a good point, worriedmum. I have a c-section scar - not sure whether it's defective though! I've never had any trouble with it. I think I'll try and hang on and go with it. I have a feeling I'll be on this thread a lot... the GP was not happy that they said no to him, so I do feel like the practice are on my side. And EPAU were really lovely to me last time around; I just thought that they'd be a bit more concerned given they insisted on following my blood HCG count down to 0 as they weren't able to rule out ectopic.

I've been thinking more about my miscarriage and given the faintness of the test and the low HCG levels, I wonder if it was over before I even realised I was pregnant as the night before I tested I had rather bad cramps which I dismissed as possibly implantation or such. Took a long time to start bleeding though.

DoctorDonnaNoble · 12/01/2015 16:11

We've decided not to go for a private early scan. That's what picked up my MMC and to be honest I would rather be in the NHS system if it happens again. I trust my EPU, who said to contact them directly with any worries in a future pregnancy. They were lovely. Wouldn't do their job for anything.
Just phoned the midwifery people so I'm in the system now. Feels more real as it's the first person to say Congratulations!

Thanks ladies.
I'm at the doctors at the moment, just waiting to go in. Had a stressful day at work and can't see it getting easier for a while.
My tests are getting much darker but haven't got many symptoms. Boobs aren't sore this time.

DoctorDonnaNoble · 12/01/2015 16:36

Crossing fingers Treacle.

Broody - I totally get what you're saying and am cross on your behalf that they won't shift. I completely agree with everyone about the importance of reassurance scans (and there's even an evidence base for it as Charlie points out, so EPUs can't just say it's us being irrationally demanding). Speaking of which, does anyone who is under St Mary's able to tell me how often they scan you - obviously this would depend to a certain extent but what was your experience? I have a fantasy of fortnightly scans but perhaps I need to let that one go!

Good luck Treacle!

Glad you've got a supportive EPU Doctor and Tori. Mine is also pretty good which I find a complete relief when I read some other people's experiences. Shouldn't be such a postcode lottery.

Yes, littlelady - come over to the enjoying pregnancy way of thinking - it's much more fun.

Fab news gale.

Thank you all :)
She was a bit concerned as my blood pressure and pulse were high bit we put that down to work stress and rushing to get there.
She pretty much said there's nothing she can do now but has booked me an appointment for when ill be 6+2 and said we can reassess then if i need an early scan :)

HollyBen · 12/01/2015 19:29

The home stretch now gail. Get your feet up and sleep as much as you can x

DoctorDonnaNoble · 12/01/2015 19:32

Feeling better Treacle?
I broke my foot in September, it's healed (was in a moon boot for SiL's wedding!) but gosh it aches today!!!
My year 12s were laughing at me today last lesson I kept using the wrong character names and apparently said Whitechapel was in the West End! Can you tell tiredness is one of my symptoms!

Treaclepie19 · 12/01/2015 19:36

Up and down doctordonna, ive had a tough day at work that won't get any better and I'm worried the stress will affect little bean.
Now I'm just really achey and tired. The cramps come and go. Worse when I eat which makes me hope it's digestive.

DoctorDonnaNoble · 12/01/2015 19:42

Sorry to hear work's like that. We're getting a new head in September, so I've got perfect timing! Trying to stay above the jostling and silliness.
I don't know if it helps but my digestion's been all over the place. I hadn't had heartburn in years!!!

Treaclepie19 · 12/01/2015 19:46

It's horrible :( I've had to move class with 3 days notice.
To a class who have had no input really all year and are now a nightmare.
I keep thinking - if all goes well, only 6 months til maternity leave! :p
Yeah I think it's just sent my digestion crazy.

DoctorDonnaNoble · 12/01/2015 19:50

Treacle that sounds dreadful! I've ended up an hour over timetable this year! That's fun. But I no longer have to cover for a colleague who was doing F All, so swings and roundabouts.

BB01 · 12/01/2015 20:05

Hi all, can I tentatively join?? Bfp today though I am being naughty and testing before I think I'm actually due. Have had tingling nipples for coming up to a week already! Third pg but second was a mc.

Mummytogoldie · 12/01/2015 21:01

Hi ladies my mystery continues. Epu rang today with results they took from blood on Friday. The bloods were taken straight after scan which showed empty sac, hormone levels came back at 43000 so very high and according to Google should have definitely showed something in the sac with levels that high. Epu are bringing my scan forward to Wednesday , I am praying something is in the sac otherwise I think it's game over :(
