I have name changed because I really don't want this to be linked to my normal name!

Basically, I'm really constipated, I've read its a common pregnancy symptom so does anyone have any immediate relief ideas?

I'm getting to be in so much pain, I don't know what to do, we are supposed to be having a lovely christmas shopping and decorating day tomorrow, and I don't want this to ruin it!

I know about water/fibre/exercise etc but what can I do to sort it now?! I'm so sorry for asking this Blush

green tea. dh drank almost 2 litres of it the other day. woosh.

3littlefrogs · 01/12/2014 21:10

You have to push it all the way in.
Have you got any plastic gloves?

BIWI · 01/12/2014 21:10

Sorry - so graphic that I had to post it twice!!!

3littlefrogs · 01/12/2014 21:14

You need 2 suppositories, one will not be enough.
Then you have to lie on your back with your hips raised on a pillow for about 15 minutes. You need to resist the immediate urge to go, or the suppositories will just come straight back out again. They need time to melt.

I am a nurse, used to be a midwife, so have years of experience of these situations...

SoEmbarrassingIveNameChanged · 01/12/2014 21:19

Its just not working.. got it all the way in and its just sliding out! Oh god starting to panic about what if it doesn't work now.

Ok, have taken 15ml of lactulose this morning. What happens if I take more then 15ml tonight?

NoRoomForALittleOne · 01/12/2014 21:25

Right, get a latex glove on and put some lube on your fore finger. Moisten the suppository then insert your lubricated finger. If you are very impacted, you will need to insert the suppository between a lump of poo and your rectum. Push it far enough up that your finger is inserted to at least the first knuckle then slowly withdraw the finger. Go and lie on your left hand side for as long as you can.

If that doesn't work, you are in enema territory. Or if you have gloves and lube then it you can perform a manual evacuation....

agoodbook · 01/12/2014 21:29

One bit of advice I don't think I have seen- raise your feet when sat on the toilet- have you a toddler step, if not a couple of thickish books would do . Warm bath and try to relax- . Give the lactulose time to work - just do the right dose again tonight.

SoEmbarrassingIveNameChanged · 01/12/2014 21:31

I've done it. I don't feel a urge to poo though. Just a bit sore and violated

Oh no I'm not in enema territory already am I?! It hasn't even been a week!

NoRoomForALittleOne · 01/12/2014 21:45

If you have solid poo there that won't come with all of this effort, you may need some extra help. When you have managed to go, you need to keep up all of the good suggestions of stuff to eat/drink so that it doesn't get this bad again.

SoEmbarrassingIveNameChanged · 01/12/2014 21:47

I definitely will be, nothing is worth this again! Will be on the prune juice every day.

SoEmbarrassingIveNameChanged · 01/12/2014 22:12

Its not worked. Nearly a hour ago now and I've had a urge to go. All that came out was brown water (sorry) whatever else needs to come out just isn't, and I'm shaking and wanting to throw up with the pain. Don't know what to do next

OP posts:
Bolshybookworm · 01/12/2014 22:20

What the last two pp said. It needs to go completely in.

Bolshybookworm · 01/12/2014 22:23

Sorry, hadn't updated the thread- ignore me and go to a walk in clinic (or a&e if you don't have one nearby). That's overflow diarrhoea.

NoRoomForALittleOne · 01/12/2014 22:26

Brown water = broken down poo from higher up than the impacted poo. It's not totally not worked. Depending on how much pain you have, you need to see a doctor. If it is really bad then tonight, or tomorrow if it is bearable. Any concerns, just get checked out.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 01/12/2014 22:33

On the bright side giving birth will be a doddle compared to this poo

Bolshybookworm · 01/12/2014 22:45

What Noarmani says. I had horrendous constipation post dd1 and it was definitely worse than the birth (plus, you get a baby at the end of birth, rather than a boulder of poo).

SoEmbarrassingIveNameChanged · 02/12/2014 07:53

NoArmani and Bolshybook DS labour was only 3 hours 45 minutes. Was a breeze compared to days of this! maybe because I was out of my head for most of it

Suppository didn't work. No relief over night, but pain did stop when I was laying down and the pressure to poo was gone. Just had bum ache Blush

Calling doctors at 8 30 when it opens.

NoRoomForALittleOne · 02/12/2014 08:58

Sounds like a plan. I hope that you get seen today.

Bimberley · 02/12/2014 09:31

Hope you get some relief soon!

SoEmbarrassingIveNameChanged · 02/12/2014 09:55

No appointments so waiting for doctor to call me.

I'm getting worked up now though, I can't bare the thought if whatever he suggests not working and being this uncomfortable and painful for longer. Every time I stand up I feel a urge to go but it wont come, I'm also scared to go now too I think. Poor DS as its just me and him at home.

I realise I sound dramatic, so feel free to pass me a grip, I'm just a fairly squeamish person. I need a miracle cure.

OP posts:
grumbleina · 02/12/2014 10:06

Erm. When you sit down to go, what happens?

Cannot believe I'm writing this - can you feel the poo waiting to come out? If you reach down? Cover your hand in toilet paper, obviously.

What can sometimes help to....make way for it... is to apply firm but gentle upward/inward pressure to your perineum while you're on the toilet. Again, cover hand in toilet paper.

Hopefully this isn't something that would be damaging in certain circumstances, someone please correct me if it is! Worked a charm for me once, during a very dark moment...

purplefeathers · 02/12/2014 10:11

I was coming on to say about the perineum thing too. It help me when I'm having trouble.

It really is miserable. I know what it feels like to just not want to eat anything else because it feels like there's nowhere for it to go.

I hope the Dr comes up with something.

SoEmbarrassingIveNameChanged · 02/12/2014 10:13

grumbleina a very dark moment made me laugh!
It hasn't happened probably since yesterday afternoon because I'm scared to go now, but - so sorry for tmi - there is poo coming out slightly and I've tried a bit to get it out my self, but its not happening. Then basically its getting stuck not going in or out until I force my body to clench and it goes back up.

My bum actually aches now and when I think I can go my body feels like its almost contracting and pushing automatically, I start panicking and shaking and feel a urge to throw up

EstRusMum · 02/12/2014 10:13

To me it sounds like you need an enema. Which is not bad, really.
Also, maybe you want to just put loads of lube, vaseline or olive oil in there? It makes the hole slippery and might help. I can't quite remember from your orginal post what was your attitude towards something going in to the back hole, but me being anal whore enthusiast have never found a problem with it. I also had to do the manual extraction in my first pregnancy. And I must say - the longer you leave it, the more difficult it gets. After a week it was a size of a baguette and breaking it with my hand was much worse than getting an enema.

SoEmbarrassingIveNameChanged · 02/12/2014 10:27

Ha EstRusMum my attitude to something going up there was that I was terrified! Still don't like the idea of it but accept I have no choice. Nothing I eat or drink will make much difference now.

Don't want to put anything else up there until I've spoke to the doctor now, so just waiting for the call. There's only one doctor on today though, and he is the most miserable, unfriendly doctor you could ever meet. Just what I need.
