Hope nobody minds me starting a new thread, but the old one was taking forever to load.

Who is still waiting? It's just that the thread has been very quiet of late.

I am having this baby, the day afer tomorrow (c-section), when are the rest of you due. Sorry I can't remember

Thanks! Nice to be back on Mumsnet and so lovely to catch up with other April mums. Must go - Lily crying (and snuffling) for a feed!

monkeygirl · 24/04/2004 12:27

I've done a midday flit from the June pregnancy board to say congratulations to all you ladies who have had their babies.

And poor you Lesley, are you the only April one left to 'pop'? Not much consolation probably but it really can't be long now so good luck!

Metrobaby · 24/04/2004 13:40

Lesley - you poor love hang in there. I know how frustrating it is but seriously babies are much easier in than out ! My FIL said it was not surprising that my new ds was late as baby boys are norally late because they don't want to come out, and then they spend the rest of their life when they do come out, trying to get back in

Enjoy the lovely weather and sleep whilst you can. Hugs.

Metrobaby · 24/04/2004 13:57

Arggh - forgot to say my congratulations to emmagee (lookng forward to hearing the birth story), and bluecow on your new arrivals.

Lesley76 · 25/04/2004 06:35

Congratulations Metrobaby and Bluecow and families and welcome to your beautiful babies!

Needless to say I am STILL here, all on my own on the April thread. With not the SLIGHTEST sign of imminent labour???.like Fennel said last week, I fear I will be relegated to the ? Due in May? thread, like having to repeat a year at school.

Am still trying to be positive and see this as a gift of an extra few days to get things done and sleep. Managed to stop DH doing DIY yesterday (his form of nesting poor lamb) and have a morning out with 4yo?.just to the park and lunch. But you know how these outings become a major undertaking with a tiny baby in tow. So this makes me feel much better about the waiting ? you know, that we?re spending quality time with her blah blah blah. Also had a nap on your instructions - you remember, its what you call it when you bribe your children with a video and sweets while you sleep in the day?......

Am following the BF and April mums threads for all your news. Many commiserations to those of you who are having such a crap time with the BF. Am filled with admiration for those of you who are still BF despite the pain??suspect I will give up if it?s that painful as I?m a total wuss

Metrobaby · 25/04/2004 09:29

Don't throw in the towel yet Lesley. You still have another 5 days to go and anything can happen then. You're not on your own on this thread - us April mums are still checking it. Keeping my fingers crossed and looking forward to seeing you on the April Mums thread

Fennel · 25/04/2004 11:34

congratulations Bluecow!

Lesley, I think you have two options. Have you tried sex (I was only asked that about 1000 times in the last week)

or make a carrot cake!

one of the two has to work....

Egypt · 25/04/2004 13:18

Lesley - you are very welcome to join us on May thread!!! Don't panic, you still have time though! Prufrock on our thread is actually being induced on Tuesday, so you're not the last april mum.............come and see us!

beansprout · 25/04/2004 13:21

Lesley - I hope things move for you soon. I'm sure you the last person that needs reminding that a week (well, almost) is a long time. Hope you are having a good day.

Metrobaby · 25/04/2004 14:11

Try carrot cake Lesley. I did. Well sort of. I went to sainsbury to get the ingredients and then found one that their bakery had already done. As it was reduced to £1.50 I decided to go down the lazy option. I went into labour the day after !

emmagee · 25/04/2004 16:34

Finally snatched a moment to tell all. As you know my waters went on Thursday morning and I went to the hospital, was monitored and then came home.

I spent the day resting a bit and then doing gentle but upright gardening - sowing seeds etc, went for a lovely walk to a friends house and sat around drinking tea and eating cake! Basically still had the occasional mild contraction and waters still leaking but no progress. At about 6pm I suddenly decided to hoover the whole of ground floor of the house before settling down to watch the news while DH and my sister in law bathed the kids. Whilst watching the lovely Jon Snow on Channel 4 I became VERY aware that my contractions were every 5 mins and pretty intense! I became very fretful that dh was taking so long to do stories, so went upstairs to fish him out. We left for the hospital at 7.40 got there at 8 and Stanley was born at 11.12pm!

We had some fun and games with the midwife when we first arrived because I declined continuous montioring and a cannula and they really wanted me to have them. Then when we said I wanted to use the pool they started to think of lots of spurious reasons why I shouldn't (like it's got a problem with the drain.......). My DH took over and said that since it was currently full of all sorts of things like a birthing stool, 3 birth balls!!!, etc etc , maybe he could empty it and clean it, fill it and then we could talk about it again! We had been warned that they are really anti it being used and we would have to be quite pushy. Anyhow, they admitted defeat in the face of his concerted, very polite efforts!

The labour was what I had always hoped for (third time lucky!) I kept very upright, walking around between contractions then sitting on a birth ball leaning over bed whilst dh massaged my back during contractions - lots of Yoga breathing. When the contractions became too intense like that I stood up leaning forward against the wall or bedhead which made them much shorter and stronger but more manageable. After about 2 hours I got into the pool as I wanted to rest but not lie down, almost immediately went into Transition - couldn't stop shivering and saying 'I don't want to do this anymore' - both classic transition things! After 20 minutes I started to bear down at the end of my contractions so my midwife got me out of the pool and we then had a little 'debate' because I wanted to deliver standing up and she wanted me on the bed (I subsequently found out from my community midwife that the hospital m/w routinely does episiotomies which is why she wanted me on the bed.) Anyhow, my DH saved the day (AGAIN) by persuading me to kneel up on the bed and 8 minutes later Stanley was born.

I had a small 2nd degree tear because his arm came out next to his head, but had unwittingly saved myself an episiotomy!

Post natal was a bit of a nightmare, the ward was really noisy, one woman snoring really loudly and another clattering around (both their babies were in the nursery!!!) so I did not get any sleep. I asked if I could go home first thing but unfortunately we had a nightmare with blood tests on Stan - I am rhesus neg and the cord sample they had taken hadn't been sent properly so they had to re-do twice! So I was in a state on Friday, hadn't slept a wink since Wed midnight, given birth and wanted to be tucked up asleep. Now though, it's fab, we banned visitors yeaterday and I really rested and today we have seen family and friends which has been lovely. Now I am off for a rest, hope this wasn't too long and boring.

Lesley, thinking of you and hope it all happens soon.

motherinferior · 25/04/2004 19:17

Emma, that's lovely.

Lesley, book a haircut. Better still, book a haircut after which you should really dye your hair. I went into labour 3 hours after getting back from the hairdresser, and didn't get round to dyeing for another week or so

Fennel · 26/04/2004 09:34

Emma, great to hear about the birth, hope it's going well now. I spent the whole of my labour shivering and saying or thinking "I don't want to do this anymore"!

as for midwives trying to get women to lie down at point of birth, that's when I kicked mine! inadvertently but it did make her back off.

Lesley, how are you doing? I am going to Tesco's today so perhaps will eat a carrot cake in your honour. (now I realise why I was so overdue, our local tesco's was out of carrot cake last week so I had to eat chocolate cake instead it obviously has to be carrot)

Toots · 26/04/2004 10:44

Emmagee, that's a fabulous birth story. It's so good to hear about people knowing what they want, getting it, and it being the right thing! Good for you and huge congratulations to you and your DH who knew that his job was to get you what you wanted. xxxx

SpringChicken · 26/04/2004 11:35

Great News Emma

Amazes me how pushy you have to be sometimes though - would've thought they would be more accommodating.

beansprout · 26/04/2004 15:02

Lesley - how are you today? You've gone quiet....could it be......?!!

Metrobaby · 26/04/2004 15:33

oooo - i was thinking the same thing !!!

Fennel · 26/04/2004 20:10

Lesley??????

Lesley76 · 26/04/2004 20:40

OOOh if only.............

No i'm still here , same as usual.....sigh

Trying to have a positive mental attitude and all that etc etc . As weather has been so nice I've been out and about with 4yo DD & trying to spend less time moaning on Mumsnet!!! Can now report that endless walking is no more effective than sex for bringing on labour However i do feel a bit less of a terrible mum as have spent "quality time" with 4yo. Although house is totally neglected (but that's nothing new).

Have hospital apt on Wed and am resigned to having a sweep, which hopefully will get things started.

How are all you gals doing? Babies sleeping and feeding Ok??? Thanks for the cheesegrater suggestions BTW ( NOT!!!)

dolbear · 26/04/2004 22:11

Thanks Dolbear, am hanging on in here!

Glad to hear the BF is improving and that DH is shaping up as a dad. Also that there are some nice MV out there...........

Am pretty suspicious i will end up with a CS like you (although have great admiration for a wee woman like you even THINKING you could sqeeze out a huge baby like yours!!!!!!). Can I ask you - how long were you on the morphine drip for the pain after the section? Did you feel like coming home sooner? I HATE hospitalsand am alreadypreparing my escape plan...........

dot1 · 27/04/2004 10:12

Hi Lesley - just wanted to say good luck and it WILL happen - has to..! But I know that was absolutely no consolation to me when I was overdue... No point either saying enjoy the rest while you can??! ds2 is wonderful but has packed in his lovely 4 hours between feeds at night - we're now on 2 - 3 if I'm lucky... Am shattered, but still enjoying it - love the breastfeeding, just wish he'd give me a bit more of a break between feeds... We're giving him a formula feed at 10.30pm/11pm to see if it pushes him through for another hour - second night last night and he did 3 hours...

Anyway, fingers crossed it happens for you very very soon..!
