I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Kalidasa Goodness, I do hope it's sorted out soon, whatever it is, poor all of you. Glad nanny can stay.
WillowHouseand GetTheRedOut It's not fair and people wthout these hormonally induced horrors shouldn't boast and be insensitive, to be honest - who wouldn't want a happy, trouble free pregnancy? Things will almost certainly improve for you. For the unlucky ones, it goes on, but even for them, it's not as bad as in the first tri.

Hey guys, been to ill to post. Been in bed for what feels like about 2 weeks, MIL has been looking after DD and DH has been helping but tonight I have no baby sitter so have got to try and look after my DD tonight on my own, already throwing up from moving around. Been placed on Zofran, only helping slightly, infact all it is really doing it making the sickness fits less painfull.

LucindaE · 29/10/2014 17:16

Glitterbug Hey, we've all been worried about you! As you said 'zofran' gather you're in the US? Sorry no help with childcare tonight; that's so exhausting.

No im in the UK its just easier to type zofran that the Uk name Ondanseteron, its the same thing I am led to believe? Hoping to get my little one in bed soon and just myself back into bed.

muddylettuce · 29/10/2014 18:15

Checking in, have skimmed the many posts! It's shit so many people are suffering. Getthered I absolutely know what you mean about hating smell of dh. I can't stand the smell of mine's deodorant, he's changed the brand now but it hasn't helped, all I want is cuddles but his smell makes me feel sick (er). I have also banned garlic and peppers, two of his favourite things. He ate a kebab at work last week and I had to sleep in the spare room for 3 days. I honestly never noticed how much garlic reeks. Actually dp now understands since he's not been eating it he notices other people smell. Thankfully I haven't had issues with dd. That would be awful.
Willow I had the same wobble at 8 weeks, I didn't want to go on, I am a bit more upbeat now...ish. I guess resigned is a better word.
I have actually been feeling ok today, it's been a horrid rainy day here so we holed up inside, carved a pumpkin, made scones and I cooked lasagne. I actually cooked! I wonder if it is passing. I had about a 4 hour period this afternoon when I had to be horizontal but that's it. Fingers crossed. It would be amazing if this time it passed sooner. Here's hoping. X

elizabethsmum · 29/10/2014 21:33

Blimey so muvh happening sorry cannot keep up! so many of you very poorly again at the moment Sad

kali hope your dh is better soon. strange about the dettol smell- who'd have thought?!

bas glad your hospital are good- sorry that you are there so much at the moment. in first hg preg it never really went away- lots of relapsing in third trimester so you have my utter sympathies.

have just realised how good my gp was when I had hg- always quick to see me/get me admitted- particularly in second preg. have just changed surgeries (gp was singlehanded and retired). new surgery cannot get appointment for love nor money with dr- (I am not pg btw!!) I have had nasty cough for 3 weeks and have 'Injured' myself coughing- horrible rib pain- have ended up getting voltarol myself until can get appointment- if I had hg now I'd have gone straight to a&e!!

sorry I digress- gentle pats to all [crosses fingers for small improvements for all asap]

Fraggle31 · 29/10/2014 21:35

oklahoma very glad to hear people aren't pregnant forever - can you imagine?!?! Lol

basgetti sorry to hear you've been re admitted - gentle pats

To whoever was talking about vomming and peeing - I feel your pain.....I have to sit on the edge of the bath and vomit in the sink to avoid this

Lucinda impressively since that escalator vomiting episode is the best I've ever felt! it's only been in the last week I've started feeling crap again. I only have 4.5 weeks of work to go before mat leave starts so am consoling myself by counting down the number of days and public transport trips on the calendar lol I'm not on any meds ATM - have been managing without since 20 weeks. I don't find they help with just feeling nauseous, only if I'm actual vomiting. I have a stash of cyclizine and stemetil at home if I need them

kali how's your hubby now?

Fraggle31 · 29/10/2014 21:40

AFM - threw up at work today, after spending much of the morning running to/from the toilet thinking I might be sick only for it not to happen. Fortunately it was far enough past breakfast only to involve bile so could have been worse. 4.5 weeks of work left....can't wait. Off to ikea on sun to by last bits if nursery furniture :)

Newshoesplease · 30/10/2014 09:28

Morning all. Have docs again this morning. Don't really know what i even want to happen. All I know ia I've been in bed for 8 days now-only leaving to be admitted to hospital. Sad

WillowHouse · 30/10/2014 09:48

i sympathise newshoes ive been bed bound for 2 weeks now. Hope the doc is helpful

kalidasa · 30/10/2014 10:29

Hi all. When's your due date fraggle? You and basgetti must be quite close together, with me shortly after that. I am due 28th January but really really hoping the baby puts in an appearance slightly early! I am supposedly working until 12th January but I am basically doing all my work in bed except for seeing PhD students who come here to our flat. Every couple of weeks I do have to struggle in in a taxi to a meeting, complete with wheelchair/crutches/expanding bump, but I definitely won't have to go in at all past the beginning of December. My first PhD student to finish has his viva on January 8th or 9th so I wanted to be still officially working at that point so that he doesn't get handed over to someone else right at the end.

DH seems to be OK. They took the pain very seriously and kept him in for that afternoon while they did tests, but it seems to have sorted itself out. They ruled out anything dangerous like appendicitis and they think it probably wasn't anything infectious which is good news for me/DS/the baby/our nanny - hopefully we are not all doomed! But it's a bit weird, the pain was so bad. They did ask if he'd had a stressful time recently! Since he's been doing absolutely everything at home since about 48 hours after I conceived in May, on top of finishing a book, the answer to that is yes!

Hope everyone is hanging in there. I feel pretty rough after my busy day of disinfection yesterday so will count today a win if I get through it without any actual vomiting. Still enjoying the lingering dettol smell though, so soothing! (And so weird. I really cannot think of any possible evolutionary biology reason why the smell of Dettol should ease the nausea - unless it's just that the association with cleanliness makes my over-anxious pregnant brain feel reassured that the baby's not going to be poisoned?!)

NoRoomForALittleOne · 30/10/2014 10:29

Hi All. I've not been on for a few days as I haven't wanted to say this and then retract it... I seem to be improving. I'm not taking the full ondansetron dose and coping well. I'm 14 weeks now so this is quite soon for me in the grand scheme of HG. I'm wondering how long it will last for.

I have, however, just had an interesting time emptying my bowels (typical ondansetron constipation). I had a flashback to giving birth and now feel a little less serene about pushing in 5-6 months time!

LucindaE · 30/10/2014 10:55

NoRoom Welcome back, and that sounds like good news! Let's hope baby comes out more easily Grin
basgetti How are you feeling now, I hope the IV is helping a lot?
WillowHouse It's so depressing being stuck in bed. The radio was invaluable though I wasn't stuck there for long at all. Someone suggested audio books as focusing the eyes for reading can be nauseating.
Newshoesplease I do hope the dr can think of another med to help. It seems harder to treat the nausea than the vomiting.
Kalidasa I do remember being very stressed as a kid of ten and having inexplicable 'appendicitis' type pans with no physical cause they could find, that were violent but tailed off as the stress eased. Your OH has been under a strain, so, I wonder...
Glitterbug So glad you're on ondansetron; so they did finally treat it as seriously as they ought...
Fraggle You deserve a medal for battling in on the tubeShock to the bitter end.
elizabethsmum I hope it's just strained muscles, I've heard of that.
Meerka waves.
xx

NoRoom I can totally empathise with the constipation, currently suffering myself. There really is no dignity with pg is there??

Had a rough day yesterday and have realised that the only foods I can eat are breads, crisps and small bowls of rice pudding. Anything outside of this renders me immobile with severe nausea. Ah well at least I can hold something down at least.

I am currently preparing myself for my 20 week scan this afternoon, hope I don't throw up in the car on the way!

Meerka · 30/10/2014 12:02

oh good luck durham!

emsy how was your scan?

Emsymarie · 30/10/2014 12:25

All good, two little boys!!! So relieved they are all ok. Just waiting for consultant now, why do they think its ok to keep pregnant ladies waiting for hours!! At least I'm not hovering over a sick bowl this time.

Was watching the TV they have on it the waiting room and had a little chuckle when it said, bold as brass, try ginger biscuits for nausea :) It also said clean lemony smells can help so maybe that's the dettol theory?!

Thinking of everyone struggling. Good luck to Durham this avo x

kalidasa · 30/10/2014 13:17

Great news emsy. Though I think it's a bit of a stretch to describe dettol as smelling 'lemony' - at least not our old fashioned unperfumed brown Dettol - it just smells of disinfectant really! Maybe it's that it's such a totally non-organic non-food smell that makes it soothing?

Emsymarie · 30/10/2014 14:01

Yep true, I think I've forgotten the true strength of the original dettol. Whatever works though. Wish my house smelt of dettol but that would involve doing some housework! Grin

muddylettuce · 30/10/2014 15:19

Afternoon all, hope everyone is ok. Well, as close to ok as possible. So exciting that Durham and Emsy had scans today! Glad all ok Emsy two boys= double trouble!
Had my booking in appointment this morning. Felt rough as soon as I got up, thanks to half 3 shenanigans with dd and the fact I didn't eat a snack before bed I think. Anyway, threw up in the hospital loo for 15 minutes before my appointment (thank god I didn't miss it) met the midwife with mascara all over my face (don't know why I bothered with make up). She was very sympathetic. She attempted bloods even though I had no veins, I didn't even bleed when she took the needle out. So, phlebotomy (sp?) tomorrow. She didn't listen to heartbeat which I was sad about but I know it's quite early. Was holding out for something, anything positive about this pregnancy to happen today but all I got was a hole in my arm and the prospect of more tomorrow.
Noroom so glad you are feeling a bit better. Hope hg stays away. I think I jinxed myself yesterday saying how well I felt. Bah. Still, you give me hope.

DurhamRed · 30/10/2014 16:58

Hi all! Scan went very well baby is doing very well which is such a relief! We are having a little girl!! Grin

I even managed to summon energy to look at prams (we bought one too!) So I'm starting to get a little more excited now...I hope it lasts!!

Meerka · 30/10/2014 17:21

emsy and durham congrats!! Isn't it lovely to actually see the little wrigglers and realise (more or less) that it's all real. Nice to have got a pram too =)

muddy i hope tomorrow is a bit of a better day. Rest as much as you can ... Hope your daugther lets you sleep tonight

basgetti · 30/10/2014 19:42

Hi all, got home a little while ago. My ketones were down to trace this afternoon so they let me go. They gave me a growth scan first, and everything looks okay baby wise, it's just me that's the problem! I have been referred for an abdo scan to rule out any gall bladder issues that may be aggravating the vomiting, and they are going to start seeing me regularly at the ante natal clinic, first appointment in a fortnight. Beyond that I've just been told to ring delivery suite again in the meantime if I need readmitting. Hoping I'll have a break from it for a while again as I feel better after the fluids.

Hope everyone is doing okay, I'll try to catch up with the thread now xx

Fraggle31 · 30/10/2014 19:47

Kali - I'm due dec 28th :)

LucindaE · 30/10/2014 21:05

basgetti Glad you have been released and are feeling a bit better. What an endurance test for you this isl.
DurhamRed and Emysmarie Happy news, oh good.
Fraggle I hope you get a seat on the tube.
MuddlyLettuce How ae things?
Once Oklahoma is delivered, I'll try and sort out due dates, old list being hopelessly outdated. I'd feel bad about dong it before Oklete puts in her apperanrace, and really, after all this, I do think that Kali basgetti Oklahomaand Others deserve a nice, easy birth...
