The new thread for mummy-to-be madness, mushiness and mayhem!

I mean 8 weeks MW booking in appointment.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 12/09/2014 07:28

Another thing. It's weird your GP actually took urine test for you. My MW just trusted what I said from a home pregnancy stick. But like I said, she doesn't see me until 8 weeks though! Sounds like you just for a bfp so about 4 weeks?

fedupofrainydays · 12/09/2014 07:31

soph I would try a first response or CB digital just in case the tesco are evap lines. If they are declining in strength then it is probably declining hormones but if getting stronger it could be a growing pregnancy or (not to scare you) but ectopic. How strong are the lines?

I would do another test, then ask to see a different gp for second opinion (take your fmu). Can you self refer at EPU? I can. They can then scan to check what's there plus test your blood for hormone levels. Good luck x

soph123kay · 12/09/2014 07:33

i had a scan after chemical by the time i got in epu bleeding had stopped she just said everythings cleared and i will probably bleed a bit more after thats all. i think he dosent belive me as its so soon after the chemical i only just got the bfp on friday a week before i tested and the was bfn. he didnt test it there and then in front of me i gave hime the sample on tuesday and he phoned me thursday with the result x

tannyLoo · 12/09/2014 07:35

Soph I echo fedup, save your first wee in a pot and get a first response early response test. They pick up everything and will satisfy most GPs. Of course it could be that you do still have some leftover hormones, so I guess you have to be prepared for that too. Good luck!

OK, so my news, had a scan yesterday at 15+2 with my consultant, baby fine and wriggling around. Lovely to see and lovely to hear him say that this is a nice healthy pg.

Freaked out when he started talking about birth options! Haven't ever let myself go there, so made me cry!

A couple of issues which he said means my local birthing centre is probably off the cards. I'm old, so he doesn't want me to go past term, so if I don't go into labour before 40 weeks I'll be induced. I also have a low lying placenta, which might move as my uterus grows, but needs keeping an eye on, in case I need a CS.

TBH, I really don't mind. Give me a real live baby, and let's not stress too much how it gets here...

Then last night I developed a pain on my left side, which I would describe as ovary pain. I know that's the one I ovulated from, but there was no cyst early on. Hasn't been checked for a while, none of my scans since the first one at 4 weeks have looked at my ovaries. Feels like a cyst. Waves of discomfort and mild pain every minute or so.

Should I contact MWs about it, or wait and see? I feel like the resident worrywart!

Oh and to Silver! I remember you from a while back! I think you are my due date buddy. Grin

OneLittleToddleTerror · 12/09/2014 07:40

Ok then it sounds like it might be another pregnancy. I still don't get why he needs to test you. May I ask how old are you? I got the feeling he's fobbing you off because you are young. I have been told the HV and GP can be more dismissive towards women who are younger and less assertive. Take a digital test like fedup suggested, and if it's still +ve, see another GP and book in for a 8wk appointment.

And definitely try self referral to your hospital EPU.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 12/09/2014 07:43

Hi tanny lovely scan news. As you say, as long as you are to have a healthy baby in the end, having to go to a CLU is just a minor detail! I would ring the MW about the ovary pain given your history. Can never be too careful isn't it?

fedupofrainydays · 12/09/2014 07:43

tanny I had a consultant appointment at 18 week to discuss birth options and totally freaked me out - I cried too. He said 'so have you thought much about how you would like to deliver?" Me: "errr no, after the mcs I haven't been able to contemplate getting to that stage or even taking home a real healthy baby". He was really sweet about it. And gave me extra scan and reassuring stats. Still didn't really believe it and still don't now!

Re the cyst - I would phone mw about anything that's worrying you to do with baby, it's what they are there for.

Cakebaker35 · 12/09/2014 08:27

psmith great scan news Smile as for bleeding, yes I had a bit after an internal scan, it's not uncommon as uterus is a lot more sensitive during preg so easy to make it bleed a little. If it's anything more than a little/goes on for a while though I'd give them a call back.

tanny totally sympathise about freaking at talking birth options. But as you say the method really doesn't matter so long as you and baby are well. As for low lying placena, I was told they all look a bit low before 20 wks so in all likelihood it will move up. They'll get you in for regular scans if it's still low then to check on it, but I was told that on over 85% of cases they move up by 32 wks. As for ovary pain, could well be just stretching pains but as others have said definitely worth mentioning to the mw. X

Psmith83 · 12/09/2014 08:47

Thanks Cake and Fedup! That's really helpful. Was pinkish and seems to have stopped, so fingers x all ok. Thanks for the advice, will ring them if it starts again.

tannyLoo · 12/09/2014 09:19

Thanks all, will call MWs in a bit.

squizita · 12/09/2014 09:35

PSmith Oh wow. Yes the double relief it's a living bean AND no molar. Been there! High five!!

Soph unless you had ivf "chemical pregnancy" is just slang for early miscarriage used by GPs to fob women off. IMO it should not be used because a real one is quite different, medically, and I know of some people's testing being delayed because of misuse of the word. If you tested negative then most likely you ARE pregnant. There is also a slight (very low) chance of retained materials or similar which requires a scan. I would insist on a 2nd opinion and go armed with the dates and results of your home tests. If he is stubborn mention risk of retained materials, ectopic or molar and request 48 hr bloods. He sounds a bit clueless: hormones only fall then rise if you're pregnant again or there's a (fixable) problem. Go via PALS if you have no luck with him, he is not following up to date practice. Or even speak to the practice manager or your local nhs midwife service.

squizita · 12/09/2014 09:37

Oh &Psmith* Yes dido cams can chafe! I was warned. :)

squizita · 12/09/2014 09:40

Tanny re the age thing ... Do a bit of digging. "Old" varies wildly place to place ... In my area I'm still "young" at mid 30s bit out of town locums have a different scale!

tannyLoo · 12/09/2014 09:43

I'm 42! Even I know I'm old... Wink

OneLittleToddleTerror · 12/09/2014 10:09

squizita I told my midwife I am old at the last appointment. She said in my part, there is a over 40 mums group and the oldest currently on her book is 45. In the next district they have a teenage mums group. She was basically telling me I'm not old at 39! (40 in oct so new baby would be born less than a month before me hitting the next bracket). tanny don't worry there are a lot of older mums around now. It's good they take extra care of you.

Babytinx11 · 12/09/2014 11:51

Ok so 15+4 and so incredibly stressed for no apparent reason shouting and snapping at everyone and everything seriously feel like I am going mad is this normal I don't remember being like this with DS

tannyLoo · 12/09/2014 12:29

Ditto Baby and one day behind you! Grumpy doesn't even start to cover it...

MW thinks it could be a UTI, dropping in a sample in a bit. Harrumph...

OneLittleToddleTerror · 12/09/2014 12:32

baby are you ok? Do you think it might be the stress of having a young child to look after, moving house, in addition of being pregnant?

PurplePest · 12/09/2014 12:51

Wrote a long post and it disappeared! Hmm

Oh well...hello everyone! Been off the thread for a while and have finally caught up again! I mustn't leave it so long otherwise it takes an age to catch up!

Sorry to hear the bad news on the previous thread and hoping that the ladies that have been feeling pants start feeling better soon.

15+5 here and really feeling much better. Nausea only occasionally now but slowly being replaced by heartburn which means I have to eat less. Which is great as I ate soooooooooooooooooo much to fight the nausea these last 11 weeks (resulting in a whopping weight gain of a stone and a bit but thankfully I'd lost loads of weight before getting pregnant.). Headaches are not so bad now either!

Maternity skinny jeans I am loving! As normal jeans are defo way too tight now!

Felt a couple of bubbly flutters this week which has been really exciting!

tanny it's nice to know I'm not the only grumpy one :)

bythesea82 · 12/09/2014 14:12

Hello all and welcome to the new faces Smile
So I've been hiding away, worrying and having more bleeding. Went for a scan this morning and was sure it wasn't third time lucky but the bean is hanging on in! Grin
They don't know where the bleeding is from but at least this time no massive area of bleed showing on US which I had in last 2 pregs. 8+5 today according to scan so still a little way to go but going to try and enjoy the weekend.
Phew, sorry for the splurge post but had to share with people who understand the relief!
Friday Cake and Brew all Smile

bythesea82 · 12/09/2014 14:13

Psmith83 · 12/09/2014 14:21

Squiz, you made me laugh with double relief- it really was! So nice to have someone understand! Grin*high five

HollyBen · 12/09/2014 15:27

I have been grumpy with DD for weeks Sad I think it is the tiredness but I feel like I have been moaning at her constantly.

I am 'old' too tanny I have to have growth scans at 28 and34 weeks. I have also been told I probably won't be allowed to go to birthing centre and they recommend induction at 40 weeks as there is an increased risk of placental abruption over 40
