My neck scan was utterly inconclusive :( mainly cystic (good) but with some small nodules (slight risk of malignancy - 5% or lower but still needs checking) so they are passing me on for a biopsy. Luckily I believe that these are done with a fine syringe not an operation. They said endocrine will contact me for an appointment after birth.
Just so fed up of going back to hospital for test after test ... that's been my life for the last 4 years!

bythesea82 · 06/09/2014 17:48

Hi all Smile
Just back from a lovely holiday where it was much easier not to worry all the time! Just over 8 weeks so still trying not to think about it for another 4 weeks.... Some brown CM so still not hopeful of reaching 12 weeks but we'll see.

mrsG Congratulations! Lovely news and lovely name, sorry to hear about the infection, hope it clears up quickly with the antibiotics...

squizita glad the news was mainly good on the cyst, bummer for more tests but good to know for sure and put your mind at rest.

alb thinking labour like thoughts for you!

Sorry if I've missed anyone on my phone and so hard to look back. Here's to Saturday Cake and Brew

SuzyBean · 06/09/2014 19:58

Alb I went into labour the day before I was due to be induced. I tried accupressure, there is a point just above the ankle that is supposed to help bring on labour. If you google 'accupressure to induce labour' it brings up sites that tell you what to do.
I was so desperate not to be induced i did this as well as having sex and lots of nipple tweaking - labour came on later that day - a very fast 7hr labour Confused.

Haily111 · 06/09/2014 20:44

Not sure if i am in the right place. Or if i am way too late to add.
We had a MC in May (v v early on)
I am now 6 weeks (today) so very very early days xx

HollyBen · 06/09/2014 21:35

Welcome Hailly and congratulations

amicablemoomin · 07/09/2014 11:36

welcome haily and congratulations! you are in the right place for support and handholding.

mrsg - fab name, and great she is doing so well. Hope your infection clears up soon and you can get home.

alb, squiz fingers crossed it kicks off soon!!

Alb1 · 07/09/2014 11:45

Welcome haily

suzy yeah I'm hoping my body will sense the looming induction an go naturally! Iv tried nipple tweaking but DP doesn't want to DTD (which provoked lots of me crying about being big and hideous of course) iv got a sweep tomorrow so I'm pinning a lot of hope on that even tho I no they don't work very often! They do 1 sweep here on Monday and then go straight for induction on Thursday, seems odd that you only get 1 sweep, everyone Iv spoken to had several before induction. Going for a nice long walk today on the off chance it kicks things off anyway.

squiz glad you had good news, sorry about the extra tests tho, that's a massive pain, but atleast there being thorough I guess Confused

squizita · 07/09/2014 12:06

Hi Haily :)

Alb hope the walking works. I've been hitting the raspberry leaf tea, stair walking, accupressure points (the skin between your thumb and finger apparently is a good one) and curry so far... Grin

I couldn't sleep last night for the worry that the nodules were dodgy, and I'd need an operation. Luckily it turns out I know some people in real life who have had thyroid issues and they were really reassuring: basically you'd never guess they did, they're in great health. Phew.
I just need to ensure the hospital know that I'm currently in the 'drop zone' so cannot have the biopsy booked in for the next 2 weeks!

blankfornames · 07/09/2014 12:10

Welcome Haily! You're I'm the right spot indeed!

Bythesea, after I had a bleed at 6wks, I had brown cm for a month. I'm now 16 wks! Don't be fretting!

squizita · 07/09/2014 15:53

Bythesea I also had some brown CM in the 1st trimester and a couple of one day red bleeds. All was OK, they scanned and saw nothing, thought it must be cervical irritation (ie just the surface not the bit that holds baby in).

Right ladies... on the topic of cervixes. Just went to my local friendly gigantic mega mall to do some 'walking' spending gift vouchers in boots. Felt something odd in the knicks, went to the loo... on my pantliner was a distinct 'blob' of mucus which seemed a bit firmer than normal mucus - when I wiped there was more. Slightly yellowy tmi.
Could this be 'show' or just normal mucus? Hmm... I know it usually comes out s one unit if it drops out in the shower, but walking around not so sure. Both blobs about the size of a 10p, no blood (although is there always?).
In any case, you can go a few days after the show with no action...

squizita · 07/09/2014 16:02

TMI and I'm not photoing mine but it looks kinda like 3/9 or the other non bloody ones here. Some on the pad, some when I wiped. www.babycentre.co.uk/l25008775/what-a-mucus-plug-looks-like-photos#/2

fedupofrainydays · 07/09/2014 16:24

Yes - sounds like it squiz mine wasn't bloody - maybe a tiny streaked bit. Can't look at the photo as makes me feel sick! My labour started a day or so after my show. But shows it's imminent!!

Alb1 · 07/09/2014 16:28

It looks and sounds similar to what I had a few weeks ago squiz which I presumed was a show but that was atleast 2 weeks ago so in my case I may have been wrong, I apologise, I this is a very unhelpful comment as it doesn't give you an answer either way Confused

squizita · 07/09/2014 18:45

Alb unfortunately a friend told me she definitely had her show TWO weeks before baby arrives so I guess it isn't a reliable sign! Grin OH WELL. Returns to drinking vile tea, walking up and down stairs and boobs pinching

Gwlondon · 07/09/2014 19:27

alb1 good luck tomorrow with the sweep.

squitza thinking of you!

Hello to everyone new!

I have no news. Plodding along. No stress. I have started third trimester so should be looking after the diabetes diet more but am feeling so stress free that it is not happening.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 07/09/2014 22:06

Hi all. I have a lovely weekend. Mainly me whining about bump and DH doing DIY to prepare for baby. Met up with a friend for a picnic. Unfortunately she told me she's heard 10 women complained about their birth in the hospital I'm going to! She said also they use first year med students in the hospital and that's not the norm because john radcliffe in Oxford doesn't do that until 3rd year. Not exactly filling me with confidence but I know my local trust one is worse. I had a horrible experience there with low staffing issues. And the NHS care report I found online also highlighted staffing is a problem for that hospital.

squizita that sounds like mucus plug to me. I'm sure I read somewhere, probably my baby centre app, that a lot of women don't have blood in the mucus plug. And hopefully you won't have another episode of those annoying braxton hicks through the middle of the night. It hasn't repeated for me so far either. But I'm getting a lot of braxton hicks now.

alb let's hope the sweep starts every thing for you. I'm not sure how many sweeps we do here but I think it's one too.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 07/09/2014 22:09

I mean the hospital I'm going to is supposed better at least with staffing level. It also is a centre of excellence for maternity care. It's the larger university hospital, compared to the one in my local trust which they are talking about closing the consultant led unit and be midwife led only. So I think it just can't be as bad, at least on paper!

bythesea82 · 08/09/2014 07:37

Morning all Smile

Just popping in quickly to say alb good luck today, hope everything gets going for you Flowers

squizita · 08/09/2014 08:32

One there are very strict rules about when students (in nursing, I know of directly as a mate of mine trains them, but would guess also midwifery and doctors) are let loose on patients. There might well be 1st years there, but I doubt the hospital's insurance would allow them to do anything.
Every hospital has mixed reviews... even places like the Lindo Wing where the royals have theirs! My local one (which I would have used but for the fact it's easier to attend 1 clinic for my RMC and pregnancy) has amazing reviews from most... then one tale of a midwife 'swearing' - you just don't know (was she a locum? Did she drop something and mutter 'shit' or was it more offensive? etc'). I do know several healthy women of healthy kids who went there too. So you basing your hospital choice on staffing sounds the wisest.
It's probably because as well as being physically challenging and full of the unexpected, birth is so personal and emotional, unfortunately no hospital will please everyone. It sounds like it's got good staffing etc' which is the main thing, you made the right choice!

No more night BH for me (some slight twinges, hardly anything). Pregnancy 'moon face' has finally hit massively, thought I had dodged it! Grin At least it's a maximum of a fortnight I have to go round looking like a blimp.

CorporeSarnie · 08/09/2014 09:33

one, I agree with squiz; I work with medical trainees, they might be allowed to come into a clinical setting and talk to patients in their first year or two, but would never be conducting any sort of procedures - they aren't qualified to do so, and the hospital could be sued if they did something wrong.
I have a feeling from your post that you may be nearish to me one, and honestly if that is the case I would opt for the University Hospital, as the staffing levels far exceed the outlying centres.
People who have bad experiences will always should about them, so it often sounds as though there are more bad than good, however most normal deliveries will pass without any incident (then there are the people who will look for something to complain about... I can see that were I a different sort of person I could feel very differently about my last delivery; I am however perfectly happy to go back to the same hospital and would be happy for the same team and even the same delivery as last time).
Good luck squiz; my mucus plug was rapidly followed by labour, will keep my fingers crossed for you. I am sure your face isn't as bad as you think it is :)

OneLittleToddleTerror · 08/09/2014 09:49

Corpore the two hospitals are Winchester and Princess Anne. There must be a lot of university hospitals around the country isn't it? Thanks for the posts squiz and corpore I know I've made the right choice, but it's so hard to know what will happen when you go into labour isn't it? And yes, I've heard horror stories for both.

squizita I haven't got moon face, yet. But my feet are hediously swollen. I look like I have no ankles anymore. Like you say, not much more to go now.

GailLondon · 08/09/2014 10:04

Morning everyone!
Good luck squiz! I started losing my plug in little pieces at 38 weeks, then a much bigger blob at 39 weeks followed by labour and arrival of baby the next day!
Feeling a bit wobbly today...it's the due date of my second pregnancy. Weird to think that I would probably have had my little baby in my arms by now. Tomorrow is my 20 week scan, feels like a big milestone after which I may finally start to believe there is a new baby coming in January!
Quite excited to find out the gender aswell, my gut says boy.

CorporeSarnie · 08/09/2014 11:14

one, no-where near! :) so not 'my' trainees then - yes, a lot of University Hospitals (and sadly a lot of centres in danger of losing more staff). I think that if the journey is not excessive I would always go for a bigger Mat Unit - they will have more experience with difficult cases.
My current fear is around there being a lot of women booked in to the local hospital, with a likely local unit downgrading meaning that there will be even more in the near future. The closer we get the less likely this is to affect me (as nothing has yet happened), but the thought of calling in labour to be turned away frightens me. Especially as none of the alternatives are that desirable (long drive or a hospital I don't fancy...).
gail, I had a big wobble around my EDD and again around the anniversary. Take it easy today, try and look fw to tomorrow.

Alb1 · 08/09/2014 12:06

squiz what is moon face?

Sweep done, was feeling hopeful but she put my bishops score as 4 which i googled after I left and saw it means spontaneous labour is unlikely Sad she also made sad by booking my induction for Saturday rather than Thursday cos aparently she told me wrong last time... Gona go for a grumpy walk and see if I can encourage things along anyway

squizita · 08/09/2014 12:32

When your face starts to look round and flat like the moon! Because of swelling and general chubness at this stage. Grin
