June people! we are hopeless! Even the April lot manage to post now & again... (though they are probably on mat. leave by now) Do you realise no one has posted on the old thread for nearly a week?!

I will be online after I leave work & I'm going to try to log on every day.
MG: I Bf'd for about 3, 3.5 months last time, but I mixed-fed. DS was in ITU / SCBU for 2.5 wks when he was born so my milk supply never really got going, plus he was hungry & I just didn't produce enough. I kept going out of guilt really. Rightly or wrongly, I tend to distrust bf counsellors as everyone I saw just checked he was latching on (he was) & could suck (he could) & didn't seem to believe me when I said I wasn't producing enough. I am determined to give it a go this time, but am equally determined not to beat myself up if it doesn't work out.
Secur: I suggested to DH that he take DS on his own & you should have seen his face! You could tell he was thinking, "But how will I schmooze?", so he was obviously thinking that if I went Ds would magically amuse himself...

Got all my stuff for my hospital bag at lunchtime. Pads, pads & more pads!

Sorry to jump on your thread ladies but just wanted to say I DO NOT like Madam whatsherface.

She said i am going to be in labour for 21 hours and my baby (girl) is going to weigh 10lb 9!

What a complete bitch Bet she gets great pleasure out of this!

scampadoodle · 29/04/2004 17:25

Er, Secur, I hate to ask, but just what kind of state is your dress in if you've worn it for 3 deliveries?!!!
Men definitely live on a different planet when it comes to babies. As it'll be June, DH has tacked on a couple of weeks holiday to his paternity leave so that he can (& I quote) "cuddle up on the sofa with the baby & watch the football" He obviously has no recollection of what it was like last time! ie ME stuck on the sofa for hours on end trying to feed the b*gger!

I actually got addicted to those pads. I never knew there could be such bliss as putting on a fresh one...

OP posts:
monkeygirl · 29/04/2004 19:27

I had to have a catheter for nearly 3 days after dd1 so all those pads in the whole of Boots plus 10 layers of disposable knickers wouldn't have stemmed the blood slopping everywhere - it was a nightmare (sorry -tmi)!

SD - I too thought my supply wasn't good enough. HV kept banging on about having to eat more cakes and drink some guiness which didn't help expect to make me put on about 2 stone!!

Secur - have got to say, I have been thinking the same about your dress, as nice as it sounds. What did you use it for originally? Do you always have black tie events or something before you give birth??

Springchicken - be careful what you say about Madame Zaritska - we just don't know the true extent of her powers - yet

Skara · 29/04/2004 22:36

eek, haven't got time to reply to all the bits I want to just now as must make effort to get to bed earlier tonight as I was foul mother from hell today due to lack of sleep! But bought 5 packs of super-industrial sized pads in the supermarket yesterday and am buying cot sheets etc online just now so am making an effort to be organised. Am so spooked by Madame Z that I have started thinking of girl names; dh thinks I have finally lost it completely

Skara, I can't believe how similar your situation is to ours. Although yesterday we managed to exchange contracts on selling our house, which is something! I am planning homebirth in a rented house (rather small, but we can make it work).

Reading about you gals' iron levels and fuss raised over them, I am SO glad that I have declined all the bloods. They have no official idea what my blood iron level is and neither do I but I feel pretty energetic and that's good enough for me. Someone said I was "blooming" yesterday, and it's probably true. I always feel very good the last 6-8 weeks of my pregnancies. That said, i have my final scan end of next week. Even if the placenta is ok, what if they say baby is breech and start moaning about that? So I am nervous about the scan. Even if I went into labour with a breech baby, I know I would want a trial vaginal at home rather than try ECV or scheduled CSection. Hopefully I'm worrying about nothing, but when the baby gets hiccups I feel them all over the place so I'm not sure if he's head down or not!

Secur's dress: I was wearing sleeveless tops (2 different ones) for both my previous births and I still have and wear them -- they're fine, honest! No blood marks or anything. I think it comes out if you wash right away.

Scampadoodle: we are also invited to a wedding in mid-July! I don't think I can realistically attend the reception (evening), either. My sleep and rest matter more to me.

How to handle life with newborn & demanding older child... can you get him into a playgroup, SD? I let DS crawl all over me when feeding DD for the first month and then slowly got him to give us both a little space... at least, he didn't feel excluded. Plus I bought him loads of engrossing new toys for the arrival of the baby, and brought them out at strategic momments over the 2 months following her birth.

Ok, Madame Z:
"The day you deliver, outside will be sunny. Your baby will arrive at night.

After a labor lasting approximately 24 hours, your child, a boy, will be born. Your baby will weigh about 6 pounds, 15 ounces, and will be 18-1/2 inches long. This child will have blue eyes and a lot of hair.

But there is more. I sense that you are in need of distraction. Some enjoyment. Gossip? Perhaps you would enjoy taking a peek inside the lives of some celebrities."

Hmmm!! I hate celebrity worship, my last labour was only about 2 hours and the babies bald or almost so, but we'll see!

sweetkitty · 30/04/2004 13:34

sorry jumped on your thread going to steal the Madame Z link for August - she said I'm having a 7lb 7ozs boy after a 4 hour labour on a sunny day. I'll settle for the weight the labour and the sun but scan has shown it's a girl (unless it's hiding a willy) still have kept the reciepts for all those pink and lilac babygros!

Cavy, good luck with your scan. I too have been panicking slightly since my mw told me babe is oblique - before I thought she was just talking rubbish but now I've convinced myself his head is just above my left thigh and bum and legs on the right under ribs. But there is time for all of them to turn really - time to stop slouching in the sofa for me then.
Secur - it may be a cheap dress but sounds very glamorous - I bet even Kate Moss, Posh et al can't top that for a delivery outfit! I'll be in my scummy old Mothercare feeding night-shirt - lovely.

Skara - I bet we've all been mothers from hell through this pregnancy - I know I have been too many times. Today I shouted at my dd for spilling some water (it was just an accident poor thing) and she scuttled away without finishing her lunch. This promptly made me cry and feel like shit. But we had big cuddles all round and hopefully have made up again.

Hey, isn't it about time Madame Z had her own thread - May ought to be the guinea pigs and see how much of it comes true!

Didn't Posh have elective c-sections?

Saw the midwife this week & it's head down, bum up, thank god. Not sure it's got room to turn again completely now.

MG: I too have those M'care feeding nightshirts (2-pack, lilac trimmed with navy & vice versa. VERY stylish). I dug them out & washed them the other day. Also, I'm glad I'm not the only sobbing mother from hell...

Cavy: I'm ashamed to say I actually have a lot of extra childcare at the moment (so have no excuse to moan), but i still have housework to do & bath & bedtimes. I intend to make as much fuss of DS as I can when the baby arrives, as I don't think the baby will notice!

Only 2 more days at work!

Hi all, hope everyone is ok.

WE HAVE OUR BABIES NEXT MONTH. YEAH

Some of us may even have them the back end of this month!!!

I have had a relaxful weekend my mam took DD up north with her so that DD could see her dad!! the break has been nice but i have missed DD terribly she comes back tonight so can't wait to have a big hug with her.

I am going to stop myself going into town as I keep buying baby clothes. I have bought all newborn just hope babs isn't too big, as all the clothes have been washed ready for wearing!!!.
DH has booked his flights he is home early hours of the 15th can't wait, lots of special hugs then!!! or so he hopes . Have tried warning him that i look like a beached whale, just so he is't to shocked when he sees my bump!!. Luckily i don't seem to have put much weight on my face just my arse and thighs ( can that be nlamed on water retention!! ) Have only gained 1.5stone so far but as i was overwight to start with I will have loads to lose, hopefully b/f and walking with pram will help!!! heres hoping.

Take care all

Gomez · 04/05/2004 10:02

Morning All,

Just popped into to see how you all are and found my mail that I 'posted' on Sunday is not there.... oops! Was a random blether anyway so that may have been a bit of luck for you.

Hope everyone had a nice Bank Holiday yesterday - DH was working but DD and I had a jolly jaunt on the train to visit some friends by the beach and then a McDs on the way home - yum, yum!

House is a pigsty however, still nowhere even slightly ready for a new baby and v. sore pelvis/coccyx thingy (probably because of my gadding about yesterday) so not really in the mood for much but need to get on. Got ante-natal classes tonight (yawn) but I must meet some friends somehow. My mum is staying to sit with DD whilst we go to classes so I must at least deal with the pigsty look and change the spare bed if nothing else.

Right catch you all later.

Cheers

I've lost messages before, too, Gomez, it's annoying because the kids don't give me much time to post, anyway!!

Just popping in to say I had my scan and the placenta is fine, out of the way, baby was head down, plenty of fluid, baby almost right on the 50th percentiles... they didn't find anything wrong! Woo! Looks like homebirth is an easy go-ahead, then.

Sending good vibes to everybody. Once I was on an expecting email list and about 10 of 80 women (it was a BIG LIST!) had their babies early. Several babies born around 30 weeks, I think. I just hope we all get to June (or close enough) ok. -C

Cavy · 04/05/2004 17:47

ps: almost 3 stone over pre-pregnancy weight, now. Have another pair of maternity trousers that don't fit me, any more!

monkeygirl · 04/05/2004 18:23

A bit late but happy holidays all - glad everyone sounds (mostly) good (poor you Gomez - at least you hopefully have the least time of all of us to wait - and hope I haven't jinxed you now!). It's nice that us June lot have finally had some things go their way.

Not an exciting holiday for me. Only 4 days until parents and in-laws descend on us for dd1's b'day so have gone into cleaning frenzy mode - well, as frenzied as you can be being nearly 35 weeks pregnant and the size of a house. Trouble is I get bored very quickly with the whole thing and so I'm being a bit half-hearted about it. But my good news was getting a very unexpected tax rebate. It's not massive but enough to ease my conscience in buying a new pram and cot (and some Chinese takeaways!)

I did get fairly worried this weekend cos my heartburn which has been very very bad suddenly disappeared and I didn't feel so breathless. I wondered if babe had engaged and I have been thinking I might be even earlier than I hoped. But I'm just hoping that he has only gone down to the next 'station' or so.

Secur - did you find your dress?

Skara · 04/05/2004 20:04

Cavy, hooray on the 3 stone weight gain, me too - am offically size of small bungalow with bottom the size of a medium sized planet. Indian takeaway for dinner tonight, to illustrate how bothered I am about that . Glad to hear everything is ok for the HB, will look forward to comparing notes - are you having a pool?
I too posted a message this weekend but somehow it hasn't appeared, still it was full of rambling rubbish so never mind...am hormonal, knackered, feel like poo, am being vile to the children who are too busy being vile to notice (I said I was rambling!)...

Skara - hooray for the stroppy mums club! Hopefully one day we will all look back and have a chuckle about this time and cross our fingers that the little darlings won't even remember just how horrible we could be ( because of course we will all turn into perfect mothers!).

I must admit my mood has lifted but I am turning into even more of a sweaty puffing monster - at least it makes people get out of my way when I do venture out onto the road.

Apart from the obvious, what I'm most looking forward to (non-baby wise) is being able to sleep on my front and having a glass or two or three of wine or really really cold fizzy beer. What about you lot then?

lazyeye · 05/05/2004 14:47

Hello, I feel like poo. Am aneamic and taking Floradix, but still feel v tired, achy urgh urgh urgh. Also breathless a bit. Can't take ferrous sulphate as really upset my tummy and make me feel incredibly sick. Am contemplating going home early from work, but would then have 2 toddlers to content with.....not sleeping well, moan moan moan.

Anyone getting crampy pains? I get these sometimes and esp if I turn over in bed.....oh dear feeling sorry for myself.

Gomez · 05/05/2004 20:21

Poor Lazyeye - have you tried to double dose the Floradix, might just help..

As for crampy pains, yip! I think things are starting to move for me but finding it all very strange as DD was extended leg breech with her head stuck under my ribs so never caused any real stretching/cramping thingies. Also think I am getting Braxton Hicks but since I have to admit to not being too sure as to what they actually feel like who really knows.

36 weeks today, he, he

Any luck with finding your luck frock yet Secur?

Hope all you grumpy ladies start feeling better soon And only 10 days until your DH is is home Karen - so exciting!!

Skara and Cavy how brave of you to jump on the scales - I have no intention of doing so. Perhaps ever again...

Saw a friend for lunch today who has a 4 week old wee girl and her bloody size10s were hanging of her (she was the same first time around too) I was so jealous. Also she had no sign of a jelly belly either. I would have sworn but she is just too nice. But she is beating herself up again as she hasn't managed to breastfeed - tried to reassure her but I felt sad that she was feeling so bad about it. Any ideas?

Right I am off for a bath and then going to try and persuade DH to practice the massage techniques we were given at ante-natal last night.

Bye all. Take care.

Oh onme thought for those of you with grumpy older sprogs - DD got an audio book at the library and absolutely loves it. She is walking about with her wee ELC Tape Player listening to it everywhere. And it lasts about 40 minutes - going to see of they have got a longer one next time. Anyway, might be worth a try! This of course is when I find out every other person earth has already got loads of these and I am the last again to find out you get them for children.....

Cavy · 05/05/2004 20:40

Is anyone else feeling very very VERY!! Nervous? Since I know it won't be a C-section, I feel like things could happen any day, now.

No Skara -- not doing a pool. Partly because I had one last time and barely used it. So I'll just labour in the bath as long as I can and then try to move to living room. Bathroom here is very small, so don't want to have baby in there if I can help it.

Children have driven me mad today and I just don't know what I'll do this summer with newborn and 2 preschoolers and the smallest garden you can imagine.... MW is doing a home visit tomorrow and I must phone HV after that about... is it Homestart? The one where volunteers come to your house for an hour or 2 each week!
