Fantastic mrsg, stay cool in the heat.

baby screening differs trust to trust. I fall into vale of Glamorgan, where they scan at 12 w for dating only and don't look at nt. most bloods done at this stage. Downs screening done at 16 w (17 for some reason in my case) and consented separately. All we're consented and explained and difficult to miss. I was told by MW this bloods only at 16w was Normal for wales, but they are bringing quad test in over next 3 years, but maybe different elsewhere as have had a lot of misinformation!

Felt like I had very little choice over amino though, however the more I think about it, the less I want it... DH wants to know to be prepared, and says I won't relax if I don't know. He has a point, but am terrified of causing mc of healthy baby, and think I am going to cancel as doubt anything will change what I do. I can ask them for any signs at 20 week scan in a fortnight. Thanks all for kind words

Date night tonight in an effort to take mind of things, so off to find the floatiest, coolest, lardy-belly-hidingest dress I own.

Sticky vibes to all (not the icky sticky summer kind!) xx

Babytinx11 · 26/07/2014 20:18

cuppa hope you have a fab date night :) feeling a bit clearer about bloods and stuff now honestly starting to feel like it's my 1st time doing this and it's not
I guess I never really paid attention before which probably wasn't the brightest move ever but not a mistake I will
Make this time :)

OneLittleToddleTerror · 26/07/2014 21:04

cuppa if you aren't going to change anything whatever the amnio outcome is, then I agree the best will be not to take it. There's no reason to risk a MC if all you wanted it for is preparation. Hope you enjoy your date night tonight.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 26/07/2014 21:10

baby this will probably explain the difference in antenatal tests between England and Wales.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/screening-amniocentesis-downs-syndrome.aspx

We are doing the "blood test plus nuchal translucency scan" which is why you'll earn England based poster saying we must have a our first scan between after 11 and before 14 weeks. (It seems the dating scan doesn't actually have such a tight time frame at all).

From what cuppa is saying, Wales is going to introduce the "quadruple blood test", which is offered in England if you missed the NT scan window only.

Whatever you guys do at 16 weeks, it's doesn't seem to be something we do in England at all!

Babytinx11 · 26/07/2014 21:25

Thanx one I must sound like a complete idiot but I was so laid back about everything that I didn't pay attention at all I was just glad I had a midwife to call of I needed to the rest I didn't pay attention to I'll take a look at that link :)

silverine · 26/07/2014 21:34

Hi ladies! How are my fellow early stagers? Sorry I've not had time to read back properly yet. Got back from Bulgaria on Wednesday. We'd had a reassurance scan before we left and all was well with good hb. The flight was a bit rougher than usual though so I was a bit worried as I had some pains after, but I had a scan here on Thursday and all showed fine (although they didn't measure hb rate precisely). Got another scan appointment on the 7th. All that doesn't stop me being paranoid at every twinge and lessening of boob tenderness... 8 weeks today and wishing the next 4 weeks away!
We told my family back home but today told DH's mum, so feeling extra pressure for some irrational reason!
Congrats on good scan news! Sorry for not name checking. Will catch-up. X

Just swinging by with an hilarious story.

33 weeks gone. BIG out-front neat bump, not so much weight gained on lower legs and arms. Very obviously pregnant.
So, being fish-slappy I am having a "the baby's not moving" scare at a local event in a park. I go to the St John's ambulance area and ask if I can sit in the quiet tent to check my baby is kicking. The guy says 'no, it's only for medical cases or old people or pregnant ladies'. Grin I was like "erm... I am a pregnant lady" LOL!!! Blimy. Just as well I didn't fall over and break an ankle they'd have put my arm in a sling. Grin Fair play to them they are volunteers but it made me chortle... I'm basically shaped like Mr Greedy!

fedupofrainydays · 26/07/2014 22:02

Lucky you haven't put on weight anywhere else squiz! I've put on 2 stone already Shock.

squizita · 26/07/2014 22:20

I have put on a healthy amount, just not evenly... my bum cheeks are like 2 extra bumps LOL! They keep my nicely balanced so I don't fall over forward!!

OneLittleToddleTerror · 26/07/2014 22:24

squizita you must be so slim to not look pregnant at 33 weeks!

I remember someone mentioned kiddicare's sale. I heard on the news Morrison is selling it and the new owners will return it back to an online business. That would mean huge sales in store I think. I will miss the superstore around our way as it's the best stocked one we can get to.

I was browsing the site tonight and noticed the cot mattresses are half price. I commented to DH about it and he said I should just order one now. He said by the time I plucked up the courage to order they might not be on sale anymore. I'm really tempted because a spring one with coolmax and removable cover is under £40. A similar one I got from mothercare for DD is £95! (Their basical spring mattress is now down to £25. You would be getting foam for that price in mothercare). I think I will order it tomorrow.

fedupofrainydays · 26/07/2014 22:27

Go for it OLTT

We went buggy window shopping today and think I'm going to brave getting one in a few weeks.

squizita · 26/07/2014 22:46

One sadly I don't actually not look pregnant or like a svelt designer bump. I look basically like a child's drawing of a pregnant lady: allllll bump with little stick arms and legs!
It was like a "should have gone to specsavers" moment!!
The other 1st aiders giggled a bit at him, poor bloke. I think he was having a 'pregnant moment' of his own!!

GandTnow · 27/07/2014 09:38

Love it squizita, really made me laugh! Bet he was teased all day about that one!!

Feeling surprisingly good today and have actually mananged to hoover, dust and clean the bathroom - turns out the bath is still white Blush! I'm sort of exoecting to be hit later on in the day with feeling pants again. If not its sorting out the garage and going to the tip after lunch - what a Sunday!

MrsGiraffe12 · 27/07/2014 10:20

squitz that's funny, has me laughing when I think about it. How someone can mistake a 34 weeks pregnant woman as not being pregnant is beyond me - especially as they work in the medical field :-)

I keep getting daily comments "you poor thig, you must be struggling in the heat. Not long left though hey" and when I day "6 weeks left actually" their faces are a picture. Though I don't think there is any "normal" bump size for a 34 week pregnant lady is there xx

Hello! Did my test yesterday (period was due on Tuesday). We have a thumbs up, but am hideously anxious following a silent miscarriage in March. Not feeling much else in the way of symptoms at the moment. Bit of nausea but nothing like I remember with my first child (now 5.5). Cue the panicky feeling every time i go to the loo... I'm not sure if the mild nausea I occasionally feel is related to pregnancy or anxiety!

Anyway, thanks to MrsGiraffe12 and squizita for pointing me in the direction of you lovely ladies. Not wanting to tell anyone about the developments yet, especially since close friend is also pregnant and has the same due date. She is suffering lots of nausea and sore boobs, which is not helping my irrationality in any way. Sad

Hold my hand and tell me it'll be ok?

OneLittleToddleTerror · 27/07/2014 14:28

silver welcome on board. Don't worry I'm sure your morning sickness will kick in once you are further along. You are not even 5 weeks yet!

MrsGiraffe12 · 27/07/2014 16:00

silver your very welcome here. Lots of hand holding and support whenever you need it :-) and congrats on the BFP, as you've realised its a very exciting but scary time xx

Yikes these threads are galloping on!

My news... still up duffed at 18+3 and am starting to feel flutters and movements. :)

Hope everyone is well...

QuietTiger · 27/07/2014 16:15

Cuppa I'm in Wales and had the NIFTY/Harmony test done in Cardiff as after 4 MC I didn't dare do an amnio or CVS because of MC risk, but needed to know. Can recommend it if you are still wavering.

Squizita - am loving the St Johns Ambulance story. WTF would they do if you went into labour? Give you 3 paracetamol and splint your leg?

Silver - serious hand holding here for you.

KeepingTheFaith9 · 27/07/2014 16:29

Hi ladies - loved the story about the St Johns ambulance chap, Squiz bless him, I do think some people are odd around pregnant ladies - esp blokes! I don't know if anyone has noticed that some men just get all flustered when they see a lady with a bump!!!

Cuppa hope you had a nice date night?

Today I am celebrating my wedding anniversary - DH brought me some baby themed gifts and took me out for a lovely brunch. He has struggled with the baby thing (we have been together 17 years - married 7 and my
biological clock woke up last year and DH was totally panicked).... he has struggled with my growing bump god love him but he is trying and brought me a lovely little baby grow and wrote a sweet message in a card.

So feeling blessed today.

Must say though, on a less joyful note - my bladder feels like it is going to fall out every time I stand up - is this normal? It's a nightmare - I'm 28 weeks - not sure I can deal with this for another 12!!!!

My placenta is low - not sure this has any relationship to the discomfort tho, I think from my google research it is par for the course and I've just gotta deal with it.

Any advice, suggestions or feedback appreciated ladies.

Happy Sunday. Smile

fedupofrainydays · 27/07/2014 17:28

Hi silver and welcome!! As others have said - at 5 weeks it's very normal not to feel any different. Mine was about the six week mark when I started to feel terrible! Congrats on the bfp!

keeping I go through phases like that a it's horrible. I think a lot is due to baby's positioning as mine comes and goes. Sometimes it feels like everything is going to fall out - it's horrible!

OneLittleToddleTerror · 27/07/2014 17:43

keeping sadly the bladder thing is normal. Like fedup it comes and goes for me. It's just part of being in the third trimester.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 27/07/2014 17:45

And we gro in the second trimester because it is relatively pain and discomfort free compared to the other two.

Babytinx11 · 27/07/2014 18:17

squiz love that story I bet he's been kicking himself since lol.

Had an awesome day no sickness at all 1st time in ages I've been able to eat properly still a bit nauseous but not sick :) love my new sickness tablets :) also worked out a few things which were making it worse which led to
Large nutradol purchases but it'll be worth it :) few wobbly moments when my mum had to remind me I had taken anti sickness tablets but otherwise fab day and I managed to eat a whole proper meal feeling very very proud of myself at the moment :)
