Thanks all. I will ask at my next appointment: the consultants actually all work on the labour ward (which is better than the other way around) and cases like mine are routine at that hospital. I'll settle for a "patient may use MLU if presents in normal labour" scrawled on my notes (I'll bookmark it for the day!) just in case no-one's around.

littlemissy12345 · 30/07/2014 20:09

Hi all, can I join please? I'm currently 5+4 after a mmc in October at 10 weeks and a mc in jan at 5 weeks. So further on than last time and feeling more pregnant than both miscarriages. Still not happy though!
I'm debating whether to ask for an early scan before I go on holiday. I could wait until I'm 7+4 so should give me some idea but if it's not good news it could spoil my holiday. What do you reckon?

Boozle80 · 30/07/2014 20:26

Hey all, hope everyone is having a lovely Wednesday.

Random question, I've been booked in for an early scan at 6 weeks 5 days, should I be looking for a hb or is it unlikely that early on? I'm trying to manage my expectations and not freak out completely! It's not for another week and a half and Google is definitely not my friend on this one! Feel free to through sardines at me!

OneLittleToddleTerror · 30/07/2014 20:35

mrsg sorry to hear about the pre-eclampsia news. 36 weeks would be really good already isn't it? It'll be just a week before full term. Fingers crossed you'll make it to the planned c-section at 38 weeks even!

drfunkes hope your scan went well this afternoon. amicable congrats on passing the 20 week scan. That's a huge milestone. Hopefully you can finally enjoy your pregnancy now.

dtm no I haven't had that in the first trimester. (Now everything is feeling like it's falling out). When are you seeing your midwife next? Maybe it's something to ask her about instead of dr google?

Finally, welcome littlemiss. I'm not sure what you can see at 5 weeks. But then I didn't get any early scans since they don't offer me in my trust, and we are too tight to pay for that. Hopefully someone else with experience with early scans can answer your question.

Cakebaker35 · 30/07/2014 20:56

boozle I had an early scan at 6+2, but it was an internal one and did find hb. I think most people will say anything before 8 wks and you might not find hb especially if an external scan so don't be freaked out. If you do have an internal scan it's totally fine, a lot better than a smear!

littlrmissy welcome. Tough choice re. scan. I only had early scans because of bleeding. I think in your shoes I'd try and wait until 8+ weeks! there's so much more to see then. X

tannyLoo · 30/07/2014 20:57

boozle I could see a HB at 6+5, but it is on the cusp, so great if you do, and try not to worry if you don't.

squizita · 30/07/2014 21:12

Boozle at 6 weeks how long it took the egg to implant after fertilisation (24hr-9 days- a big window of 'ok') makes a huge difference to what you can see. So no HB isn't a big deal. Having said that, many people do see a HB (I did) and it is really reassuring when you do.

Boozle80 · 30/07/2014 21:16

Thanks all - reckon I need to take a deep breathe and face it! Think it's because I had a mmc that I'm crapping myself as much as I am. I've got to chill out - I keep going shopping to distract myself, it's costing me a fortune! On many pairs of shoes as I daren't buy clothes! Doh!

DrFunkesFamilyBandSolution · 30/07/2014 21:45

Scan all good! 20wk actual baby kicking away!

Little missy, will you be able to relax on holiday if you did/didn't scan? I know even if I did I'd still think 'oh but maybe doing xyz can/has caused a mc' . But if you're less crazy id say go for a scan!

boozle, good luck for your scan! Hope the next week &!- half flies by (ps my feet are half a size smaller and a size wider after 2 kids so don't go too crazy on the shoes) Grin

MrsGiraffe12 · 30/07/2014 22:15

Thanks for all the kind messages yesterday and today about the P.E. Was feeling a bit sorry for myself in a way as I thought I might have gotten away with it this time, but nope. I'm aiming for 36 weeks as they say but making it to 38 weeks would be fab :-)

Great to see so much positive scan news here, not been too much sad news recently which cheers me up no end :-)

And to the newbies, welcome, your in the right place, were all mad as hatters here, even us almost graduates still have our moments ;-) xx

Oh and I have good news too. My new cot mattress has arrived! I'm starting to get the bits and pieces now. Planning to go to ikea next Monday (first day of maternity leave) to get some furniture for the new baby too.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 30/07/2014 22:30

Yes yes as mad as hatters. I'm sure not many wait till 33/34 weeks to start getting baby stuff! Well it is our second but we don't actually have a cot yet even. We have decided to keep DD in her cot bed and get a new cot instead. (Drop side cots especially old ones are supposedly unsafe and I feel bad giving the new baby something I know could potentially be dangerous)!

squizita · 30/07/2014 22:54

Fish slap needed... just saw something on here about HB in 3rd trimester. I KNOW anything between 120 and 160 is considered normal. All mine since 28 weeks (am now 33+) have been between 125-140.
MW and consultant did not bat an eyelid and could feel baby moving 'strongly' both appointments.
But I have become paranoid my baby has a slow heart because I saw someone say it should be lower when they sleep?! Mine was wiggling (relaxed but moving) at 125 on Monday. Scans have always shown a normal working heart.
I'm overthinking this aren't I? If I wasn't RMC, I'd have had way fewer checks and just take their word for it as baby moves fine...

tannyLoo · 30/07/2014 23:08

Squiz, stop it! Your baby has a lovely healthy heartbeat! x

Babytinx11 · 31/07/2014 08:07

squiz consider your self fish slapped but gently you basically just said that your baby is perfectly in the normal range with her heart beat :) you answered yourself really :) and if baby is wriggling around and beating you up you don't need to worry :) enjoy mini squiz beating you up and try not to worry about the heartrate thing :)

GandTnow · 31/07/2014 08:14

Squiz - a slap with a bit drippy wet fish of your choice. Smile. All is well - not long now, try not to panic my lovely. x

Offically on the one week count down to the dreaded 12 week scan. Trying to follow my own advice and not panic, but the madness is setting in and I'm pretty sure that next Thursday I'll be in the waiting room with my pants on my head singing the national anthem!

OneLittleToddleTerror · 31/07/2014 08:16

squizita if there's anything to worry about, your MW and consultant would have said something. And surely 125 is still within the normal rate. Stop worrying. Also do you have a history of stillborn? I think most of us here with RMC are losses before 24 weeks? At 33 weeks you have way passed the dangerous period. (Though ofc it doesn't stop us worrying about problem with premature labour or other problems with birth. I'm actually still worry about it).

On a lighter note, I couldn't fit into either pair of my work trousers anymore Sad. The underbump digs into my waist and hurts. And the overbump one is so tight I don't think I could sit down without risking bursting the seams. Luckily I have only two more work days to go. So it'd be just dresses today and tomorrow. I'm thinking of popping into H&M and new look today at lunch to see if they have any summer maternity stuff on sale.

liesal79 · 31/07/2014 08:43

I have a week til my 20 week scan, and dispite seeing baby last Thursday - I have convinced myself that something will be wrong - Why can't I just enjoy pregnancy!!! :S

ilovechops · 31/07/2014 08:51

Great to see lots of good news on here and congrats on happy scan news to those who have had one.

boozle I had a scan last week and they estimated 4.5 -5 wks. Amazingly they could just see a heart flutter but this is the strongest scanning machine going as the hospital I am at is actually where they train in scanning I believe (something like that) anyway the Dr said it was a v powerful scanner. That said I think in most cases you've got a pretty decent chance of seeing one at 6.5 wks now but it really depends how accurate your dates are? If you're a few days out it might make all the difference I guess. They will advise you on that though when you're there. I know how difficult it is not to go crazy and worry though as I'm doing it constantly!!

Welcome littlemiss I know in your position if have to have a scan before I went on hols I think, I am useless at waiting. When do you go away?

So the last couple of days I've had awful nausea on and off. Not actually been sick but worrying it's around the corner. Definitely didn't have it this early last time around. Thankfully it's not constant yet so can still function. Last night I saw a friend briefly for dinner and during it had some quite strong pains, I've not had anything like it this time around (did with MMC) admittedly it lasted approx 20 mins and since that I've had no more and no bleeding and a fair bit of nausea but I am freaking out again. Is this normal or should I be worried?? I thought (hoped!) it might just have been wind (haha) as it's not come back but can't help worrying that something has gone majorly wrong again :-( it was made a lot harder that I was in a restaurant and just had to sit through it rather than lie down / move around but is playing on my mind.

OneLittleToddleTerror · 31/07/2014 09:00

ilovechops how many weeks are you. Do you feel your stomach is really tightening? But even if it's brixton hacks it's not normal to have it for 20min? (I'm not sure because I don't get strong contractions). When will you see your midwife next?

ilovechops · 31/07/2014 09:23

onelittletoddler I'm only 5-6 wks ish so def not Braxton hicks! Was painful sort of crampy feeling, had a lot of it (constantly) for MMC. We knew it was unlikely to be good news at that time and I then had approx 10 days of cramps (some mild some stronger) before I had the ERPC op. I was just scared last night as felt quite strong but today feels fine again so hopefully something else. Can't stop obsessing tho!

OneLittleToddleTerror · 31/07/2014 09:39

ilovechops then finger crossed for you it's just your uterus stretching.

Boozle80 · 31/07/2014 10:12

chops sounds ridiculous but it was probably just wind and because you're in a restaurant you couldn't let rip! I get it and it can be really blooming painful! Luckily I'm a teacher so if it gets too bad I can let a small one slide and blame the kids... They're not fooled though! I'd imagine if it was ominous you'd get more consistent ones.

Boozle80 · 31/07/2014 10:13

I'm completely obsessive over everything these days, if anyone looked at my google history I'd be committed immediately! I don't think you can help it!

littlemissy12345 · 31/07/2014 10:16

We'll looks like my scan question has been taken out of my hands. Woke up, threw up, then had a wee and noticed brown blood when I wiped. A smidgen, there for about an hour but the doctor has referred me to the epu for a scan. Probably won't be until next week when I'm over 6 weeks. Fingers crossed that's it for the bleeding.
