I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

That's interesting somesunnysunday I haven't been sick for two days until just then........feel like all my hard work is undone lol

Fraggle31 · 09/06/2014 23:07

lottiedoubtie that's good to know that I'm 'normal' in some sense of the word lol it's so frustrating as it makes it so difficult to know if you're actually feeling truly better if you see what I mean

mrsnec · 10/06/2014 05:19

Hi all,

Yes Fraggle, I had that too. The last time I wasn't feeling nauseous and it was straight after eating safe foods too, I was having a good day and there were no signs at all. So those foods, they're not safe anymore I might add! I never took any meds though so in my case not related to medication I think the entire time I've just accepted there's no pattern to my sickness but tiredness and anxiety definitely make the nausea side of it worse.

Thanks re my anniversary, did have a lovely time but I was nervous about flying, first world problem I know but we had bad weather and a powercut while I was in the spa, I'd already nearly had a fall as it was so slippy so when there was a total blackout with no emergency lighting I had a panic attack. Dh wants to go away again before she arrives but I'm not putting myself at risk again although I know it's a nice gesture. He did treat me to jewellery, shoes and some nice makeup though so that cheered me up.

Wasn't me with the cockroaches but we do have them here and I hate them too!

Excellent news about Daisy.

Sorry if I missed anyone or anything hard to keep up at the moment!

Oklahoma · 10/06/2014 08:48

So much for miracle 20 week cure!

Hey ho. At least it's sunny.

Oklahoma · 10/06/2014 08:58

And Fraggle yes, sometimes it just comes out of the blue. Like Lottie said mine is normally tiredness or done-too-much-ness.

mampam · 10/06/2014 10:11

Living so pleased that you and Daisy are able to go home a day early Smile

Fraggle It definitely can come out of the blue. I've had a bad 'out of the blue' vomiting session this morning. Normally I build up to it over the course of the morning and have at least an hour or 2 of excess saliva and nausea before I bring anything up. This morning I just had the vile taste in my mouth and felt awful and then up it came suddenly with no warning.
Can be very demoralising when you've had a couple of 'good' days.

Oklahoma I'm still clinging onto the miracle 20 week cure Grin I've got just under 3 weeks to go!!

LucindaE · 10/06/2014 11:13

Okla I do fee for you, it must be so horrible getting no relief by first one stage then another. I hope it does come soon, some people get it between weeks 22-24.
We used to have cockroaches in London - very hard to eradicate - i saw a drowned swollen one in the loo once when suffering - good as an emetic, I suppose.
elizabethsmum As ever, I can't add to your advice!
Really feel for all those suffering from sudden relapses, constant retching and small vomits, the Bile Run or any of the various horrors of this thing.
I hope ice lollies are soothing in this warmer weather.
xx

Oh bless you mrsnec that doesn't sound like fun

oklahoma sorry you're having a bad day!

Went to gp again today as I'd been sick 4 times between 10.30 last night and 6am this morning. He's changed my cyclizine to stemetil to go alongside the metaclopramide instead - anyone else used stemetil?

SomeSunnySunday · 10/06/2014 11:54

Ick, sudden relapse here this morning Sad. After a run of far better days, suddenly I'm back in full-on vomit-after-vomit mode. My parents have to go to a funeral so I have DS2 to entertain until tea time. I'm thinking a Disney film (or two) might be my only option. Although when asked what he wanted to do, he said "climb a mountain". Not with me, he won't be!

Your trip sounds lovely, mrsnec.

Okla, so sorry that you are not suddenly better. It's rubbish.

mampam hope you feel better soon.

SomeSunnySunday · 10/06/2014 11:56

I tried Stemetil, Fraggle. To tell you the truth it did nothing for my nausea or vomiting, and made me feel like a complete zombie. I could hardly stay awake. But someone on here was singing its praises recently (Sass?) - everyone's different, and if your current meds aren't working then it's worth trying something else.

Fraggle31 · 10/06/2014 12:01

Oh somesunnysunday definitely no mountain climbing for you!!
My sick certificate is up on Monday so have another appt with my gp then, so will give stemetil a try till then. If it's no good I can switch back as have just enough of orevious meds to last till that appt. you're due in dec aren't you? I think we have similar due dates :)

SomeSunnySunday · 10/06/2014 12:18

Yes, Fraggle, due Christmas Eve. Which seems a very long way away! When are you due?

Fraggle31 · 10/06/2014 12:25

28th dec somesunnysunday although may change on scan day next week. But we were having fertility treatment (clomid) so am 100% sure of dates so shouldn't change by much

Fraggle31 · 10/06/2014 12:25

Agreed it feels a long way away!!

SassehMonsta · 10/06/2014 16:22

Fraggle Yes, I'm on Stemetil and its ace for me! Hopefully its helpful for you xx

mampam · 10/06/2014 17:48

SomeSunny and Fraggle I'm due in November and that seems like forever away but I find it helps a little to break it down into smaller chunks and not look at it as a whole, e.g:

6 weeks until the end of term - during which time dd1is going abroad with school and 20 wk scan
6 weeks of school holidays - we go away for a week at start of 3rd week, Dc'1&2 then go and stay with their father when we get back, school uniform shopping.
New term dd2 starts primary school, ds starts secondary school
6 weeks later - DH's birthday
2 weeks later -dd1's birthday (and I will feel mega old as she will be 15)
2 weeks approx later - elcs and baby! Hurrah

Sorry just meant to give a small example not give you my lifes forecast for the next 23 weeks (think that all adds up to24 though Hmm ) but it does feel good to have written it down Smile

Fraggle31 · 10/06/2014 17:52

I think that's a good way of looking at it mampam

SomeSunnySunday · 10/06/2014 18:19

Thanks mampam, I'm going to try to break it down into chunks too. Although at the moment all I can see is endless summer hols - DS1's (American International) school breaks up on Friday, and he and DH fly home on Sunday. Then I've somehow got to keep 2 small boys entertained until the start of September....

On the positive side, by the end of the summer hols, which start in 3 days, I'll only have a little over 3 months to go (I'll be having a c-section at 39 weeks, so won't even go to my due date). That makes it seem shorter!

SomeSunnySunday · 10/06/2014 18:25

mampam, out of interest, how many c-sections have you had? This will be number 3 for me, and stupidly I googled a few nights ago and got a bit stressed about potential complications, so I'm looking for someone to tell me that they've had 3 c-sections and it's been fine! (My other two were fairly straightforward, in the context of one being an emergency, in fact the c-sections were pretty much the only uncomplicated part of pregnancy / labour / the newborn period for me, so I don't know why I'm worrying...).

elizabethsmum · 10/06/2014 21:25

mampam absolutely the best way to look at it - apart from the each day at a time thing is breaking the time up into smaller , more manageable chunks (if you'll pardon the hg pun! ;) otherwise the thought of potentially months on end is just too depressing for words and adds to the misery ( not that this us necessarily the case but I always aimed for the worst case scenarios mentally and any respite in symptoms was a bonus)

Quite true what everyone says about tiredness making symptoms worse. fraggle I had multiple episodes of full meals literally flying back out of my mouth 10 minutes later completely undigested on days where I had otherwise been feeling 'ok'. It is a another peculiarity of hg IME!! Can remember two such particular incidents occurring in kitchen sink in front of a horrified (and disgusted) dh- who for a nurse has a particularly stupid aversion to vomit!!

Oklahoma · 11/06/2014 08:37

Totally agree on the chunks. I've been doing it in blocks. Survive to 12 weeks, then 16 weeks, then 20 weeks and now I'm aiming for 24 weeks. It's seems silly but it makes a big difference psychologically.

I had an ok day yesterday (barring the morning bile run), tried to do too much and then crashed spectacularly at 18h ish. Will I ever learn!?

Hope it's super sunny where you all are. It's certainly helping me feel less cooped up.

Booboostoo · 11/06/2014 08:49

Fraggle there is no rhyme or reason to my bad days either, but tiredness does add to the problems. Week 24 was the first nausea free week since the beginning but weeks 25-6 are getting worse again (nothing like the earlier weeks, that was the worst!).

Fantastic news about Daisy living! And happy anniversary mrsnec!

I had a bliah day yesterday. It started off with DP blurting out that my breath was horrible (he could smell it in the car even when I was not speaking or looking at him!!!) and he could tell that I would have a bad HG day! Very depressing - I like to think I am not very vain but being told I have awful breath is a bit of a blow. Then I spent 3 hours in hospital getting the gestational diabetes test done, I don't know how I managed to keep the glucose down on an empty stomach! I was out for the rest of the day after that, completely shattered. Another blood test tomorrow this time for a genetic test - happy day! 12 weeks to go, give me strength!

mampam · 11/06/2014 09:28

SomeSunny Sorry I've only had 1 CS other 2 were natural births but I do have a friend who has had a CS with all 4 of hers and she is fine, recovered well without any complications Smile You will be fine.

starrynight123 · 11/06/2014 10:46

mampam I love your idea! I'm going through my online diary today to see about breaking it down into little periods of time. I also posted off my maternity leave/MATB1 form yesterday, so feel as though I'm reaching the end of this pregnancy.

We are supposed to have some sunshine today, although it's very grey at the moment, so it will be nice to sit in the garden a bit later if it does warm up!

Hope everyone is okay.

I hope kalidasa meerka living and punk are doing okay too...

livingzuid · 11/06/2014 10:51

boo the GD test was awful. I wanted to curl up on the chairs and sleep but it was so busy and full of people and I thought I was going to barf all over them! Sorry you are having such a rubbish day :(

Thank you all for the good wishes :) Daisy went to the gp today who said all was fine. I slept a full night last night for the first time in months and oh what a difference to mood. I found with hg in the third trimester I woke up sick all the time. To sleep without nausea aaaah.

Still though my taste buds have changed. I think it's for the best - sugar and sugary things no longer are nice sigh but will help with weight loss. And fatty foods which unfortunately goes for olive oil and those types of fat too. Interesting how pregnancy changes you. My gp said it could be up to 9 months for hormonal changes to return to normal Shock

I also broke things down into chunks but based mine on milestones in pregnancy. I think that was easier for me as I had so many tests and appointments but 30 weeks was a big achievement to reach in my head, for example. So I did mine by appointment Grin they increased in frequency from every five to every two then one week.

I definitely found those stretches between 13-20 and 20-30 weeks very long though but the first set longer because I was just stuck with hg and no visible signs of a baby. By 30 weeks at least I had a big bump to show for my efforts!

Hugs to all of you still going. But how wonderful to have Christmas babies, combine festive with the new arrivals :)
