I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Hi ladies, I'm not sure if I'm in the HG category, nausea started a week and a half ago, I'm on phenergan but still vomiting when I get up & in an afternoon/evening. My stomach muscles are agony when it starts & it just seems to be gag/burps with a bit of stomach acid. Lost half a stone.

My doctor didn't even want to prescribe me anything! X

kalidasa · 09/07/2014 10:18

Sorry you are suffering bella. How far along are you? Is this your first pregnancy? There's lots of good info in the links at the top of this thread.

Mixed results here. By staying completely still for 3 hours I have just managed not to throw up. Struggling to eat or drink at all though. Have not yet tested ketones this morning - don't want to know and I think if I get up for the loo I'll throw up. Also don't think I can wee (not a good sign). I guess if I don't pick up in the next couple of hours we'll have to go in.

LucindaE · 09/07/2014 10:48

bellaboo88 Welcome- this doesn't sound good, retching up bile. How are the liquids saying down otherwise? Can you eat at all, looks like you've lot a lot of weight in a short time. My usual question have you got kesostix from a chemists to check on dehydration?
Kali Poor you - grim prospect, if you do have to go in I hope they get you on IV quickly. That's a dismal talent to have picked up - knowing when it's 3+ ketones without testing.
SomeSunny How are things?
Who said their OH had the football on the bedroom television - oh dear, but I don't like football very much.
Lottie Waves. I hope things still reasonably OK?
Starry Okla Booboo and others suffering throughout - really, there ought to be medals handed out for women who endure this throughout Sad.
Apologies to anyone rudely ignored.

Lucinda I'm almost at the end of this... due on 1st August for my C-section!!! It's what is keeping me going at the moment!

kali really hope you've been able to have a little water and/or food so far today so you can get those ketones down. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Lottiedoubtie · 09/07/2014 11:27

Yay starry you are so close now!

Kali hope the liquid is going in now.

lucinda I'm doing reasonably ok thanks, it's nice to have finished work so I can take things at my own pace and I'm distracting myself with buying things for the baby! DH home at the end of next week as well, can't wait for that!

Oklahoma · 09/07/2014 12:08

Kali I think I may be joining you in hospital soon. Third day of not keeping anything down...

Seeing the midwife this afternoon so expecting a lecture on staying hydrated and eating more. It's not like I'm not trying!

Meerka · 09/07/2014 12:08

hello bellaboo, welcome :)

starry lovely! so close now. thinking of you !

kali what can I say ... all fingers and toes crossed.

< waves to okla and lucinda and everyone>

Lottiedoubtie · 09/07/2014 12:20

okla sorry to hear that, you are so far along now it's really not fair Sad Flowers maybe an IV will help you feel a bit better?

LucindaE · 09/07/2014 14:08

Oklahoma You poor thing, that sounds awful. I just hope, like others, that the IV makes you feel a lot better. Three days is too long...
Gentle pats on offer.

Back on a drip. At least it was quite quick.

starrynight123 · 09/07/2014 14:24

Thanks lottie and meerka!! I'm so excited!!

kali I'm glad it went quickly and I hope your ketones go down and you feel better very soon.

okla how did your apt with the midwife go? How are you feeling now?

Lottiedoubtie · 09/07/2014 14:31

kali horrible, but for the best by the sound of it. Hope it takes effect soon.

okla are you at he hospital now?

Flowers all round.

Oklahoma · 09/07/2014 15:34

No I was allowed home thankfully.

I got a lecture (in a very nice way) about dehydration and starvation and the effects it can have and now have to keep a diary of what I eat / throw up so she can work out how many calories I'm actually getting.

She seemed most concerned that I wouldn't be able to produce milk properly unless I put on some weight (which hadn't even occurred to me!)

BUT I don't have to go in for a drip .

Kali hope your drip is helping.

Bella welcome. Everyone on here is lovely and super supportive so we'll help you get through this.

Starry that is sooo soon. Tres excited for you.

Lottie glad DH is home soon.

Hi Meerka & Lucinda how are you both doing? Thanks for the support as always.

kalidasa · 09/07/2014 15:40

Oh that's good okla. Are your ketones ok? They haven't told me what mine are but my urine sample looked like lucozade so I'm guessing not brilliant! Saw a v junior doctor who looked quite out of his depth and said 'umm there's not really anything else we can give you'. I know!

Lottiedoubtie · 09/07/2014 15:42

okla I'm not sure such a lecture is helpful Hmm it's not like you're deliberately not eating? Do you know what your ketones are at? 3 days sounded really worrying to me... Flowers

kalidasa · 09/07/2014 16:13

Ooh so I left a message with my new consultants secretary to say I was being admitted and within 30 mins a much more senior junior doctor appeared with a detailed care plan!! They are keeping me in but they don't know which ward yet, surprise surprise. Hurrah for new consultant who will apparently come and see me herself - in person!! - tomorrow.

Did they discuss any extra meds okla? If you can't eat enough surely you need something extra. I've forgotten what you're on at the moment I'm afraid.

Oklahoma · 09/07/2014 16:29

She didn't say what my ketones were but my sample looked like dark apple juice. Hence why I was sure I was headed for a drip!

Calling it a lecture isn't fair. She is very supportive. It was more a 'these are the potential complications we need to think about'. She explained that my body is basically learning to be anorexic / bulimic hence wanting to track what calories I'm actually getting. DH nearly had a fit.

I've got promethazine. Meto really didn't agree with me and Cyclizine did nothing. Can't remember why Prochlorperazine got abandoned. I tried it but went back to Promethazine for some reason.

I'm normally ok ish in the afternoons so I had been getting enough fluid and nutrients, it's just been a bad week.

Lottiedoubtie · 09/07/2014 17:23

Time for Ondansetron maybe? If you aren't at least drinking (quite a lot) by now I'd go to A&E? You must feel awful?

Lottiedoubtie · 09/07/2014 17:26

kali thank goodness for your new consultant, sounds like this stay in hospital might be more positive than the last!

BabyButton1 · 09/07/2014 17:43

Hi All - just marking my place.

Sorry I haven't caught up in a while.

I hope everyone is having a better day today.

Kali it sounds like you are getting a bit more support since i last checked which is good news :)

Okla I agree with Lottie I am still taking ondansatron and it helps a bit. Just numbs the sicky feeling in your stomache although I still feel nausea when i take them.

AFM - My doctor has signed me back to work for mornings only. I went back on Monday but luckily my head teacher has given me reports to write so I'm just sat in a room on my own ploughing through. I can just about get through a morning but when i get home I can't stop being sick and need to sleep for atleast 2-3 hours before I feel human again. Just think my body isn't used to it after being off for nearly 3 and half months. Evenings are still horrible and very sicky!!!

I had a fall on Monday and ended up having to spend the evening on labour ward. Luckily after observations etc. they sent me home and i just had to go back the next day for an injection. The midwife also mentioned to me about my weight. She said my arms are very thin and I just look really underweight for 20 weeks pregnant. I explained how ill I had been even but she was saying that I should still have put on more weight. I hear her but I'm still finding it really hard to eat. I don't want to eat anything so I just force myself to have little bits inbetween feeling nausea. I feel like I have a phobia of food!! Surely this will get easier? I have my 20 week scan on Monday so hopefully they say everything is looking ok regardless of my weight.

kalidasa · 09/07/2014 18:21

Agh, just been warned that due to bed shortage I might have to spend night on trolley in A&E when EPU closes. What a restful prospect!

LucindaE · 09/07/2014 19:54

Okla While I*m obviously not a medic, I'm startled, if your urine looked like that that she didn't get you pit on a drip. I'm sure if you'd gone straight to A and E they would have. I know ketones can mean starvation, but with urine like that...
Kali I'm so glad about the care plan, but it's a bit depressing to be back 'inside'. I hope you're feeling a bit better.
Babybutton This all sounds so horrible; Mother Hen doesn't think you're up to being back at work. Hopefully, end of term not too far away, but still, and the fall, too. Sad
Waves to Meerka and Everyone. Starry and Booboo I'm so glad that the end of this torment approaches...
Apologies to anyone overlooked.
xx

kalidasa · 09/07/2014 20:11

Have a bed! Thank goodness for that, am thankful for small mercies . . .

Okla I'm a bit concerned too. They did check your ketones didn't they? Are you doing any better?

Oklahoma · 09/07/2014 21:29

I don't know if she did tbh, she dipped a stick thing in my sample but I didn't ask what she was checking for. I just kind of assumed she was checking for ketones. Baby brain and all that.

I've been a bit better this afternoon but if I'm still being really sick tomorrow I will go to the hospital.

Kali thank goodness you have a bed!!
