I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

mampam I believe kestostix are cheaper online as mrsb87 says. You can get them from chemists usually and Mother Hen tends to flap when people come on having been unable to keep down water, and suggest getting them that very day! mrsb87 so glad that the magic sticks helped you argue your case so well.
SassehMonsta I'm glad the bleeding has stopped. Hopefully it was from the throat, I get that still with migraines- but probably a good idea to get it checked out. I know they treat brown blood as a medical emergency, and for all I know, a lot of red. Horrible, though.
Somesunny Hurray for a slight improvement.
Oklahoma It's a shame that there isn't a form of meditation to get rid of silly suggestions - I don't want to be rude about your MIL but really!
BooBoo Waves.
George Sympathies about that foul taste. I did find old fashioned barley sugar helped. Some even try parma violets.
livingzuid Great advice about trauma and depression. Lovely of you to
go into it so thoroughly to help others. It's lovely you're thinking of a DC2 already!
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked or with whom I've cross posted.
Very wet and miserable here in Powys, Wales.

Same here lucinda, I'm not far away in Telford. Weather is so bad I really don't want to go out but needs must today!
Morning bile run was a ruddy horrid one today, still feeling nauseous thinking about it now!
sass I had some blood occasionally too, it frightened me the first time it happened!

LucindaE · 09/06/2014 11:26

Mrsb87 Oh no to horrible Bile Run. They are so dismal. Poor you.

We're going home a day early! Doctors very pleased with Daisy's progress and just waiting for DH to clean the car and do the car seat. So thrilled we are done and have a healthy happy baby who kept DH up 2 nights in a row :)

Isn't the blood also capillaries bursting due to too much/too strong vomits? I had that sometimes.

I said my HG was over but it has definitely left changes to the way I taste things - did anyone else get some foods just permanently altered? Mainly junk I am pleased to say - went to get a diet coke from McDs (that taste hasn't changed!) and pleased to say I had no interest in anything else on offer Grin

livingzuid · 09/06/2014 12:00

Oh sunny I should add it was your story that made me think hard about the overall trauma. The pregnancy was not easy plus with the illness after the birth I thought I should not dismiss it. I'm not sure it is ever something anyone 'gets over' but hopefully we will find a way to move on. Thank you for sharing :)

Oklahoma · 09/06/2014 12:06

Yay Living to going home!!

Wishing you all the best for this exciting new chapter in life!

I was really hoping tastes would go back to normal after the baby arrives as some of my favourite foods are currently no go Sad

Lottiedoubtie · 09/06/2014 12:50

Yay living. Going home, that's great news!

It's blooming hot here, sitting still sweating buckets

starrynight123 · 09/06/2014 13:36

living wonderful news that you can go home a day early! Woohoo!! So glad that you and Daisy are doing so well Grin And here are some Thanks just because you can now have flowers around!

It was interesting to hear what you said about how important it is to discuss the experience of hg with dh and others in order to come closer to accepting the trauma of the whole thing. I've been finding it hard to even mention to my mum (who I'm staying with at the moment) how lonely and unhappy I am because of the isolation and being so 'stuck' at home. I've just been hiding it and, when she is home after work, only coming out of my room when I'm not crying or washing my face before going downstairs. It is so stupid. I finally let her know today that I'm 'feeling lonely' after dh left yesterday for the week and she is back at work, so I'm home alone again. She was really understanding and I can't understand why I couldn't have just let her know weeks ago. Cue more sobbing... I seem to spend most of my time crying these days.

SomeSunnySunday · 09/06/2014 14:00

mrsnec I love the idea of having a favourite sick loo and making it nice! There is definitely one I prefer here at my parents. Although initially when we came back to the UK just the exclusion of any possibility of a mid-vom encounter with a cockroach was enough!

living, great that you are getting home a day early. It's all been a bit drawn out for you.

sass how scary, hope there's not any more blood.

starry, it's really hard isn't it, the loneliness. I miss my DH and DS1 terribly. It's almost worse now I'm feeling a tiny bit better, as I can actually think about things other than how terrible I feel, and I've even found myself feeling a bit bored over the last few days. I quite often have a bit of a cry about it. Today my mum has a taken DS2 out for the whole day, which is lovely of her and will be lovely for him, but selfishly I just wanted them around here, even if I'm not good for much.

starrynight123 · 09/06/2014 14:14

some completely empathise with you. It is so nice to have someone in the house to talk with, or to even just hear pottering about. I'm finding it gets harder and harder to cope with the loneliness after dh's weekend visits. I try and keep the radio or tv on to keep me company but, obviously, it's not nearly the same. So glad you have your mother and ds2 with you, but really understand feeling selfish about wanting to keep them with you at home. When are you due to have your baby? Is it soon?

SomeSunnySunday · 09/06/2014 14:32

I'm not due until December, starry. Ages to go! Although if it's the same as last time (please, please) my HG will be gone by 20 weeks, I'm so banking on that! I am beyond sick of daytime TV. Today I have the radio on, and am trying, without much success, to learn to crochet.

starrynight123 · 09/06/2014 14:53

Yikes! My fingers are crossed for a 20wk end to hg! Mine definitely started to improve c.28wks, but still have awful nausea and occasional sickness. I gave up on the tv today after I found myself watching a programme about finding the perfect wedding dress... now have the radio on too. Good luck with the crochet! I am knitting a lace scarf and it's the most complicated pattern I've done. Have you tried www.ravelry.com for patterns, yarns and all things knitting/crochet? It's a great resource and the forums are fantastic for getting help with a project!

Oklahoma · 09/06/2014 14:56

The loneliness/boredom is grim. Totally agree. Have been spending a lot of time hanging out with parents dog (on the days I can stand his breath!) for undemanding company.

I'm 20 weeks tomorrow so really hoping I wake up feeling amazing with all of this a distant memory. Will keep you all posted.

SomeSunnySunday · 09/06/2014 14:56

Thanks, I'll have a look at that site. Today's 'project' is trying to crochet plain granny squares... But with all of this time on my hands hopefully I'll be able to progress past that soon!

starrynight123 · 09/06/2014 15:12

Oklahoma I hope you experience a miracle tomorrow :-) Times like this really do call for a sympathetic cat or dog to keep one company. People do say stroking them helps to de-stress, but the breath doesn't sound great! What are you doing to keep yourself occupied today?

For me, it was calling my grandma, listening to radio, looking at beautiful fabrics on the broadwick silks website (wish my dress-making skills were a bit more advanced!), doing a bit of knitting and will try and do some work now...

some good luck with the granny squares. I bet they'd look gorgeous all sewn up together as a baby blanket for your little one at Christmas.

mrsb87 · 09/06/2014 15:25

somesunny I too have caught the crochet bug. I'm working on a baby blanket. Try red heart yarns for free patterns too. Also the crochet crowd on Facebook are good for patterns ls and advice :-)

Oklahoma · 09/06/2014 15:34

Just had an 'occupational health assessment' through work. Now panicking they're going to decide I'm skiving and send me back!? They can't do that, right?

starrynight123 · 09/06/2014 15:37

oklahoma they absolutely can't! Your GP has to clear you as being fit for work, and if s/he doesn't, then no one can force you back. Take a deep breath - no need to panic!

Oklahoma and was it George I think for most people the tastes of food gradually right themselves. I did find the food I'd got an particular aversion to from really bad experiences still sets me off, after all these years, but only a few of those. Iced gems, Envy to this day. The taste in the mouth went, even when ill after the birth.I think it does for almost everyone, hopefully.
Hope Everyone is coping. Waves to all.

mrsnec Sorry, belated Happy Anniversary. Was the journey to Turkey OK? The cockroach experience sounds dreadful - disgusting things at the best of times.
Ookahoma I so agree with Starry I'm sure they can't do that if you have a doctor's note. Also they have to be careful about discriminating about pregnancy related conditions because of sex descrimination.
Livinzuid Great news about going home early.
Waves to Lottie and everyone. You industrious lot, doing crocheting.
We haven't heard from SliceofLime and DiddyBeth in a while.

Hi to all- just checking in. Am working away this week with slightly dodgy wifi but seem to have it sorted. Poor DH is already stressed out with the kids (he has taken the week off!) finding it a bit strange having all this time to myself (apart from the fact that I am at work all week I am in the beautiful Channel Islands so not all bad!) anyway I digress!
living such fab news put that all well with Daisy now and you are finally discharged!
decmummy welcome to the thread- 5 times daily sickness still sounds pretty bad to me, plus with a little one to look after, no chance to rest at all by the sounds of it bless you.
Glad there are some encouraging reports of improvements hoping for no relapses. Agree that it is so unhelpful when well meaning comments are made about 'probably feel better next week/soon etc' so depressing when people don't understand.

Sending vibes out for continued small improvements for everyone x

Fraggle31 · 09/06/2014 22:37

Sorry it's late, so no time for personals but I just wanted to ask, is it normal to just get nausea to come out of nowhere?!?! I've felt really good today, taken all my anti-sickness as per my usual routine, and ate all my dinner, only for bang me to throw up what was remaining of my dinner 10 mins ago, just out of nowhere?!?!

Fraggle31 · 09/06/2014 22:55

Make that twice in 15 mins.......bleurgh

SomeSunnySunday · 09/06/2014 23:04

Fraggle I find that when the pills are "working" I have low level nausea, but occasionally breakthrough major nausea, and when I do throw up it's violent - entire meals etc. Whereas unmedicated although I feel very sick all of the time, the actual being sick is more like lots of small vomits / constant retching (possibly because I never even get close to eating an actual meal).

Lottiedoubtie · 09/06/2014 23:05

Yes I think so fraggle. Even when you're having better days it can suddenly creep up on you. With me it's often tiredness or overdoing it that sets me off.
