I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk/
If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!prescribinginfosub

I would like to thank Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Ah, living that's wonderful news - all of it! So happy for you and little Daisy!

Your messages help keep me going - knowing that there is an end and that it's a lovely one :-) I keep saying to myself 'I never have to do this again' and it also helps to get me through the day.

Interesting about having gone off sweet food. For me, I went off sweet tastes a few months ago because it made that horrid taste in my mouth even worse. Tangy, citrusy tastes helped get rid of it, but then increased my acid/indigestion - can't win! But, the soda water is still helping with that :-)

mrsnec · 11/06/2014 12:58

Yes living I agree it's all great news. Interesting about the tastes changing too.

boo, sorry to hear about your day yesterday hope today goes well too. I have a feeling I'm going to have to have the fasting test and I'm dreading it I've already been mentally preparing myself for it. Does everyone have to have it or only if your doctors think you're high risk?

I've been thinking about breaking things up too but on the other hand since every appointment so far apart from my private scan every appointment gives me something else to worry about so I quite like having big gaps between appointments.

I agree about xmas babies too!

Lottiedoubtie · 11/06/2014 13:17

mrs I think it varies area to area, I had to have it as high risk, but my sister (who wasn't) had to have it in another county because they test all pregnant women there.

It is hard, the glucose drink is foul. I got through it by taking my tablet and watching TV with headphones in the waiting room, forcing myself to concentrate on TV.

BabyButton1 · 11/06/2014 15:12

Hi all. Only just checking in again now as I've had quite a few bad days of HG!!

Hope you are all doing ok and hanging in there... I had a good few days and thought it was my lucky break but now I'm back to being and feeling very sick again. I'm taking penicillin 8 times a day which is challenging it itself but I think they could be making the sickness worse. I'm now 16 weeks :-( hoping it will go soon!! Still to feeling anything in my belly yet...I was hoping I would because I'm so tiny now!!

BabyButton1 · 11/06/2014 15:36

Mampam ...I like you're way of looking at it!! :-) are you a teacher too ? :-)

Oklahoma · 11/06/2014 15:50

Just got the work occupational health report. They concluded I was unfit for work too. Phew!!

Hanging out in the sun with dog today so despite the nausea things could be worse. The sun definitely helps.

That glucose test sounds sadistic. I hope no one else has to go through it!!

Lottiedoubtie · 11/06/2014 16:13

Glad you had a sensible doctor okla no guilt, just rest!

Georgebythesea · 11/06/2014 16:18

I've got to do that glucose test in a few weeks..got to drink a bottle of plain lucozade which I find disgusting at the best of times and then get a bumpy taxi ride to doctors. Not looking forward to it at all!!

mrsnec · 11/06/2014 16:29

Good to know Lottie, I'm considering getting my blood sugar tested again anyway before my next scan. She had such a go at me for high blood sugar anyway and tried to put me on a diet I can see it coming but because they sent me to get my bloods done privately I'm wondering if they'd send me to the same place for fasting glucose. It might be slightly better if they just give you the stuff and tell you to come back in a couple of hours as oposed to staying in hospital but whilst my sickness is better I feel awful if I go too long without food.that's the bit I'm dreading but it'd probably just be like boo and wipe me out for a day.

Oak, that's amazing news and I'm glad you're having lovely weather too.

Baby I don't know anything about penicillin in pregnancy if you think it's making you worse maybe going back to the docs and seeing if you could get something else. Hopefully it won't be long before you can feel something.

starrynight123 · 11/06/2014 19:50

Oklahoma good stuff! Must feel good to be able to relax and not have that hanging over you. How long have they agreed you will be off from work?

All these glucose tests sound awful :-(

LucindaE · 11/06/2014 21:52

Fraggle I hope the stemetil acts as well for you as for Sassehmonsta.
I've added you to list, got your due date.
Booboosto Hugs. What a tactless DH! You know objectively an upset stomach makes for bad breath but it's humiliating. I was sure my breath stank a lot of the time, another reason for my barley sugar sucking apart from the spit and horrible taste. Congratulations on surviving that dreadful test. I don't know how you and others avoid puking.
Goergebythesea Good luck with your test. How are you gneerally?
Lottie?
Oklahoma I'm glad about OH report and the sun helping you.
Livingzuid So glad about Daisy and happy news. Didn't realise you'd had that miserable GT test.
Brilliant idea mrsnecmampam and elizabethsmum and Others about dividing up the time into sections. Is there any way you can give yourselves a treat after surviving each section, just an idea?
Babybutton Sorry about relapse, how disappointing. But a few good days are so often the sign of a turnaround to come - don't despair! Welcome back anyway.
Apologies to anyone rudely overlooked. I hope Kalidasa and others aren't feeling too dreadful.
xx

No worries Lucinda! I'm feeling so-so... made a long 'to do' list and am slowly working my way through it to help the time pass. But, it has just made me stressed about how much I've got to do!! Fail!!

Random question: does anyone else have inner thighs that absolutely kill when you get up/sit down/walk about? It slowly started a couple of weeks ago, but after a short walk yesterday, it is now agony. Not sure if I should mention that here or in a new thread... sorry if not appropriate here!!

Fraggle31 · 11/06/2014 22:30

Evening ladies

living great news

starry I've pretty much gone off everything lol can't even drink diet coke anymore which I used to drink daily. Everything has this funny after taste and leaves me with a horrid taste in my mouth a few hours later. I realised today I'd brushed my teeth 5 times today - oops! Have invested in some more mouthwash now, other wise I think I'd have no teeth left lol

Everyone having GTT tests - bless you all. They are grim. I will have to have one at 28weeks due to my bmi at booking in (oopsy!) and my dad's diabetes history. I strongly hope the hunger induced nausea is over by then otherwise it will be a very unpleasant experience!

oklahoma glad occupy health made the sensible decision. How much longer are you likely to be off?

babybutton sorry to hear you've been poorly. 8x day penicillin does not sound like fun. Is there anything else your go can give you instead?

lucinda thank you for adding me to the due date list - seems abit odd seeing it written down like that lol

AFM - well, following yesterday's med changes today as been, by comparison, an excellent day. Managed to limit my nausea to just hunger related rather than all day sickness. And even made it out of the house to meet a friend for lunch (which I finished all off and it was yummy!). Part of that involved a trip to tescos which took about 3hrs there and back if you include two stop offs at her house and then lunch too p, which is the longest I've been out of the house in last 4 weeks. I felt very proud of myself but boy was I tired when I got back.......had to have a 3 hr nap to recover lol Only the next few days will tell whether it's an upward turn because of the meds or a lull into a false sense of security, as the last time I felt I had a really good day it was followed by 2 days of feeling pants. So we'll see what the next few days holds.

hi to those than follow :) Sorry if I've missed anyone (my bad!)
Hope everyone sleeps well! And hugs to everyone who needs them xx

Fraggle31 · 11/06/2014 22:33

starry my thighs don't hurt per say but they do really ache in a pain sort of way IYSWIM when I've done anything. The healthcare professional in me just puts it down to a lowered exercise tolerance as a consequence of not doing much for a month, so it's like a muscle soreness you get from exercise in the gym.....don't know if that's the sort of thing you mean?

SomeSunnySunday · 11/06/2014 22:48

Fraggle that's good news about the meds, yay! Hope they keep working well for you. Although I know what you mean about the good days / bad days thing, I am stuck in that cycle too and never know how much my meds actually work.

mampam thanks for the reassurance re sections!

living that's super news. And for you too, Okla, that must be a relief.

babybutton that sounds a bit grim. Hope you pick up soon.

starry I've gone off sweet things too. And almost all drinks - drinking is more of a challenge than eating just now. The only think that I can manage easily is skimmed milk. Even water is off putting.

I've never had a GTT, so well done those of you who have and good luck to those of you who have then coming up. They sound like just what you don't need with HG!

Lucinda, thank your for the suggestion of treats at the end of sections. I am going to adopt that idea!

I had my 12 week scan today. It was a bit rubbish in that they really couldn't get a decent picture, baby was in a very awkward position. They had me wriggling about on the bed, the bed tipped up, half emptying my bladder, wandering around... But the little monkey was not for playing! Fortunately I had declined screening anyway, because they said that there was no way they could have done a NT measurement. They did see everything they needed to in the end though, and they moved my due date forward to 20 December, which makes me 12+4 (Lucinda, could you change that on the stats next time you are doing them anyway?). I was a bit vague on dates anyway, so I'm happy with whatever they tell me. I've never know a 12 week scan to take 45 minutes though, my last ones were 10 minutes tops!

livingzuid · 11/06/2014 23:37

sunny my 12 week scan was 50 mins. They checked so much (I had a higher risk of the baby having a heart condition but nada). It was quite fascinating. 30 week scan took about 5 minutes tops which surprised me!

Sorry typing in haste as on baby night shift so apologies to anyone missed, okla hanging out with the dog sounds lovely and fraggle good news on the improvement! starry I had that with my legs too so uncomfortable. Elevating them helped a bit. I do waffle on about things so I am glad that it helps someone Grin

Booboostoo · 12/06/2014 07:47

mrsnec I think it varies. In France it is standard, in Greece they assess the risk. My baby is on the large side so they wanted to check. I do know that both times I did it I had to stay there for the duration as in rare cases you can faint. I had three blood tests for it another one due today so I am beginning to look like a pin cushion!

starrynight123 · 12/06/2014 09:52

fraggle that is pretty much it - the best I can describe it is when you've been horse-riding after ages and the next day your inner thighs are in agony because they are SO sore. It gets worse when I've been walking around, which I thought was odd, because usually walking eases muscle strain for me.

I did some googling and apparently it might be something to do with the pelvic girdle loosening and/or SPD... it's quite common from around wk30... and should go a few weeks after childbirth...

living waffle away! Grin

tak1ngchances · 12/06/2014 11:20

Bonjour les filles. I am back to visit this thread...hope that everyone is feeling a bit better than the last time I was here. I am 23 weeks now, the puking stopped at 19 weeks (not the nausea) but then this morning I was verrrry violently sick again.

Today I have a presentation to senior folk at work, and another one tomorrow, it is hot in London and I am not sleeping well so I suppose I am stressed. Do you find that the sickness is triggered by stress for you? Am trying to think if it's that or something else (hormone surge/tummy bug).

LucindaE · 12/06/2014 11:36

Tak1ingchances My goodness, you brave thing - presentations, and in London - how do people manage to do these things? Aagh! Stress =
EnvyEnvyEnvy.
Starry and Fraggle Those sound horrible symptoms to add to the rest- I had dreadful achings in the ribs as they expanded, and an ache in the 'pudendum' as it's politely called (not as if I'm normally polite).
*SomeSunny Updated you. Glad you have hopefully four days less to suffer, though did you say last time it eased off massively after twenty weeks? Sorry if I've confused you with someone else...
Hope Everyone is coping today.

Taking absolutely. Stress is a major vomit trigger for me.

Living please waffle away. Your posts always entertain me and as you know HG is so so dull!

Can't remember what else I was going to say. Really need to start taking notes as I read through the thread...

Blah day here today. Had 2 better days, so I obviously tried to do too much, and now feel rough again. But it is starting to look like an upward trend (I think/ hope/ beg).
