How about a big fat bar of whole nut? That's my current favourite. Oh, and chocolate digestives. And Twix.....

florenceuk · 19/04/2004 17:20

Hi everyone

For those of you at work, have you told your employers yet? I haven't told mine, but now I've done my scan I guess I am more confident this pregnancy is truly under way.

My sickness is much better now at 13+4, and I am hopeful it will be pretty much gone over the next 2 wks (although another horrid tube trip today with predictable results). I found going from feeling sick and unable to eat, to feeling sick but able to eat (and therefore stop it getting worse) is a crucial step on the road to feeling much better.

DH getting fed up with lack of libido (the thought makes me want to gag) and general lethargy! That's what you get with second pregnancies I think!!!!

piglit · 19/04/2004 17:39

I've told the head honchos at work but I'm not planning on making a big announcement. I'm sure people will start to guess pretty soon.

I've been very lucky with my libido so far. I think dh is pleasantly surprised.

beansprout · 19/04/2004 17:51

Have told my boss as we get on well and I just wanted to stop planning work for the next year, knowing I will only be around for half of it.
Since the 12w stage have told people I have wanted to tell and am not concerned about anyone else.

I was convinced too that bean waved at me!! That's my story and I'm sticking too it!

miffy2 · 19/04/2004 18:07

beansprout hope you feel better soon. How easily you forget how rotten it is to be ill and not be able to dose up with the entire medicine cabinet!

As for telling people, I am 13 wks today and my boss and v close colleagues in work know. I would say people will cop on soon enough re the belly size. I am actually quite nervous telling the people who report to me directly - I think some of them may be gagging to replace me!

Other than that, have told family and friends. At around 8/9 weeks I told the people that I would rely on if anything went wrong.

Looking forward to my scan at 18 weeks. Last time round I felt movement at about 16 weeks so I am also looking forward to that - it makes it so real.

Turtle35 · 19/04/2004 18:40

I have told a few people at work but someone also told the office gossip here so I am certain all 400 staff will know shortly!

Toots · 19/04/2004 23:36

Libido? Oh please! I am off to bed to do my level best as dp is being such a flippin' star at the moment. Back's killing me, sure I'll have a long list of no-go's, complaints and other irritable behaviours.......then really enjoy myself.

Have nearly finished DD's chocolate bunny. It is quite lovely. A friend told me I didn't look like I'd put on any weight (she's clearly mad), but it cheered me up.

Turtle35 · 20/04/2004 14:57

Toots - if it's not to personal, how much weight have you gained? I know I should stop fretting over this but I have gained 10 lbs!! I was also 10 lbs over weight before I started so am feeling like a blubber whale today. I am with you on the libido thing, my DH has also been great and has only asked the question once in 3 months!

Turtle35 · 20/04/2004 15:41

Has anyone been told to wear a bra without a wire? I have but I am not sure why it's important.

Toots · 20/04/2004 15:53

Wire can bruise developing milk ducts, or something.

miffy2 · 20/04/2004 16:18

I spent two pregnancies in a divine white Playtex cross your heart contraption. Being a size 34E that made me look matronly at the very least.
This time round I say to heck with it. Big boobs and proud. I will take the risk and wear underwire bras. Must go get a bigger size tho as I think the E cup is getting a bit tight...

As for weight gain, 13 weeks and am actually 2lbs below pre-pg weight. However I was at least a stone overweight and the constant puking has meant no weight gain yet. That is about to change as I am no longer puking as much AND I am eating rings around myself!

beansprout · 20/04/2004 17:05

Apparently the wire can affect the developing milk factory, especially if the bra doesn't fit too well. Presumably that is inevitable though as we will change size anyway. I have bought a couple of mat bras and dp has already done his usual trick of putting something red in with the white wash, so now have a splendid pink bra (as if the whole thing wasn't unattractive enough in the first place).

I have put on a stone but am ok with that as was borderline underweight to start. Am still finding the big bump in the evening/little bump in the morning thing a bit weird though.

piglit · 20/04/2004 17:27

Beansprout - that little bump/big bump thing is freaking me out. I've given up on my usual work trousers and have moved into the Next maternity ones I got a while ago (a bit baggy but sooo comfy and very smart). They hang off me in the morning but fit me quite well by the time I go home.

I'm also feeling human again after what seems like a hundred weeks of sickness, nausea and heartburn. Apart from the odd twinge I feel quite normal. Of course, being the worrier I am, I thought that the lack of nausea/sickness/heartburn meant that something was wrong. I wonder if I'll ever relax and "enjoy" this pg?!

Toots · 20/04/2004 19:43

Sorry Turtle, didn't see your first post today for some reason. Of course it's not too personal. You will all grow to realise that I don't really HAVE a too personal, although I very much respect those that do. I've put on 5lbs, all in lard on my upper tum, and it looks like lots more to me. I started out at around 10 stone 10. Which is in improvement on starting out at 11 and a half with DD.

Talking of whom, dp and dd have just zoomed up the M4 until Sunday. He's going for stag golf do and she's staying at his mum's. Can finally catch up with all the work I've let drift, although not all my fault as chilminder has had lots of time off. Need to really push myself though as still feeling really tired most of the time. Just been out to buy some floradix, never too early to keep the anaemia at bay.

Toots · 21/04/2004 12:53

Morning all.

Today I am in maternity trousers. And it feels gooooooooood.

Surgery just rang me to remind me I've got (1st) midwife appointment at 1pm, which I have keenly remembered. They don't do it to be kind, or because pg women are forgetful and fuzzy-headed, apparently, it's just because it's a 45 min appointment so a waste if you don't show. However, I perceived it as a drop of the milk of human kindness, and kindness equals tears and chin-quivering at the moment, so I've just had a little hormonal cry, bless my wrinkly socks.

Anyway, hope the weather with you is as glorious as it is here.
Oh, and regarding libido, FlorenceUk, totally get where you are coming from, but did manage the other night, and feel much better for it.

piglit · 21/04/2004 13:08

Good luck for today Toots. Let us know how you get on.

And aren't maternity trousers just fantastic? Bliss....

beansprout · 21/04/2004 15:28

Good luck Toots, let us know how it goes. Am off out to buy some maternity trousers for work. Wore baggy pre pg trousers all day yesterday and had horrible stomach ache by last night, then got all anxious about beany, etc etc. Argghhh!! Have decided that hey, am now just going to wear trousers that actually fit..... because I'm worth it (tosses hair)

piglit · 21/04/2004 15:35

I wore my pre pg jeans last weekend (for about 10 minutes) and when I took them off I had a really deep red button shaped indentation on my stomach. I was worried that the baby would be born with a button shaped birthmark(!) if I wore them much longer so I've put them away until October (ha ha - 2005 more like)

Toots · 21/04/2004 17:38

Thank you, it was a lovely appointment. Midwife lovely (turned out her surname was Jolly-Edwards, like she said, you can't really be miserable when that's your name). She said she could hardly see my Ceasar scar, and said it was likely that meant internal healing would have been good too which was reassuring.

Beans - had a urine sample funny, to add to your locum splashdown. I'd just got mine out and MW said something about taking top off - I thought she meant me! We peed ourselves (of course).

Turtle35 · 21/04/2004 18:33

Oh my God Toots that must of been hilarious! Good to add a bit of humor in all of this oh so serious stuff. Good news on C scar, does that mean it's likely you will deliver naturally this time? I have a big C scar from a HUGE ovarian cyst I had taken out roughly 7 years ago, do you know if that will have any impact on my delivery? I still have two weeks before I see my midwife for the first time - urgg. Did you write down your questions?

Wearing stupid tight trousers today which are hurting - my pregnancy has travelled around the office like wild fire and I am now having very insensitive remarks from skinny woman like " oh I thought something was up when normally you look so slim and smart"!! Can you believe these people. Clearly they are the ones who have NEVER been pregnant!

beansprout · 21/04/2004 19:47

Turtle - I have no time for skinny women who have never been pg who choose to make those sorts of remarks. Poor them for having such a tiny view on life I say. Still envy their trim waists though as much as I repeat "I am mother earth, bearer of life" to myself.

Just got back from moose shopping disaster. Practically passed out in H&M and had to sit on the floor for 15 mins with my head between my legs. NOT ONE person came over and asked if I was ok, apart from the security guard who was pretty interested in getting me off the shop floor. Everyone just shopped 'round me. I ended up in a crying/snotty/hormonal heap as I thought I couldn't get home. Arghhh!!!

Am ok, I think it was simply too long since my breakfast and I had a bad reaction.

And, to add to my embarassment, the only decent pair of trousers I saw today was in Mothercare (after all I have said about them), so I got them. Shucks.

Toots - your MW sounds fab, (and what a great name!). Glad it all went ok.

piglit · 21/04/2004 19:59

Beansprout - I snuck into Mothercare when you weren't looking and bought some jeans there this lunchtime!! What a coincidence. I kept thinking that I shouldn't be in there as the clothes are so bad but I saw these jeans and they looked soooo comfy.

I hope you are feeling better now. Make sure you get lots of rest.

beansprout · 21/04/2004 20:07

Bad Piglit!! (and Beansprout!!)

Will we wear them with pride though?!!

Am feeling better for being at home, and will try to get lots of rest (although teenage dsd about to arrive for the weekend, so will let you know!) Thanks

Are we all now just giving in and now sporting clothes with unfeasibly big waist lines then?

piglit · 21/04/2004 20:12

I've just accepted that it's "bump" trousers (as my dh calls them) from here on in. They are so much more comfortable - and I can actually breath properly again.

Have a good (and restful) weekend everyone. We've got friends coming to stay (with their 3 young children). Yikes.

Toots · 22/04/2004 01:41

Turtle, how did your scar heal? There are some really reassuring stats around about rupture - it's very unlikely. Sure there's good posts on here about it. Sod the skinnies. They're like drivers who don't say thank you, you just have to repeat 'they only demean themselves' when they get to you. Smile serenely, like you're having the best time ever being a wobbly with a jeans button impression on your tum!

Piglit, your weekend sounds shattering. Try to get looked after yourself a bit.

Beans, that's awful! I'm really sad for you. Can't believe no-one asked you how you were. How are you now? Must keep a bag of trail mix and some dried apricots or summat about your person for emergency rations, you need to keep topped up.

Can't believe you and Piglit have been slumming it in Mothercare. Mind you am meeting my mum to look for mat clothes in Asda tomorrow. Will report back. Also....Jojomananbebe website has a sale with an under ten pounds section. I didn't see anything I fancied, but I like to see my threads in the flesh, if you know what I mean.

Night night.
