hello all

Great to hear everybody is doing well.

Well - I am definitely slumming it in maternity trousers and great they are too. My only concession was buying a pair of linen trousers in M&S in a bigger size - hope they will do me all summer and when bump gets very big can just push them down a bit.

Also bought my maternity bras today - again in M&S £20 for a black and white one and the fitting person seemed to know what she was doing as well.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend and that it isn't too exhausting.

Must have a bump in a very odd place because i'm wearing maternity tops but my usual trousers?! I went to Jojomamanbebe or whatever its called in Croydon yestaday and bought a skirt for work. got to go back on Monday and tell them - i've only worked 1 week since coming back off my last maternity leave!

Toots · 23/04/2004 12:57

Flippin' 'eck Geogteach, I was in Croydon yesterday too!

George was good for v-neck short sleeved t's. Two for six quid. And blow me, if I didn't get another top in Mothercare.

Eyelash, nice to hear from you. If M&S do mat bras, does that mean they do mat pants? I'm keen to stock up, as my pre-preg ones have started to do that amusing yet irritating rolling down thing, and I do like a nice big knicker. Mothercare's are two for 8 quid which is a bit cheeky if you ask me, as they are nothing spesh.

DP and DD come back today. Have done really well on catching up with my work, but house needs blitz, so must leave time for that. Don't want to be thinking 'back already?' when they turn up. Want to be lovely mummy/partner welcoming them with open arms.

beansprout · 24/04/2004 15:35

Hi eveyone esp. eyelash and geogteach (hope it goes ok today geogteach).

Am back at work after my illness and Jane Austen style fainting fits last week. The bump that I love to bits at home, actually makes me feel a bit coy when I am at work. Obviously everyone in my office is as obsessed with my waistline as I am and only has eyes for my stomach... and of course not one person has actually noticed, although that is in part, thanks to power jacket that I am wearing which covers me up nicely.

Am battling with the feeling that having a huge stomach at work is just a bit unprofessional, which is not how I see pg women, just myself. Anyone else self conscious, and not in a nice way?
I completely chuffed about the whole thing so it's a bit odd that I am not (as I thought I would be) shouting it from the rooftops

Toots · 24/04/2004 16:07

Bummer

Just spent ages posting on pregnancy in the workplace and lost it.

Double bummer becuase I spent such ages my over chips have burnt to a cinder.

Boo hoo.

Turtle35 · 24/04/2004 16:21

didn't read m/n for two days and had much catching up to do!!

Bean is it awful being back at work? Poor you feeling so faint - you must take it easy, you are probably over doing it.

Sounds like Croyden was the place to be on the weekend!

I now have cronic Head Aches - really painful ones that don't seem to go away. I quickly looked in "What to expect" book this morning while rushing to get out the door for work and it says "relax"!! Ya right I did take a paracetemol but not sure how many I can take or how often??

Toothache · 24/04/2004 16:39

Turtle - Just butting here a sec... regarding the paracetamol... as long as you don't exceed to recommended dose then you'll be fine. I was prescribed a bucket load of Co-codamol a few weeks ago for headaches and was told to just stick to the normal guidelines. I haven't taken them that much though, usually just a couple every few days when it gets bad. HTH. The headaches are horrible eh?

Toots - double bummer, chips AND lost posting. BTW M&S do the whole mat. pants, tights, etc etc deal. I saw them all on my failed expedition a couple of weeks ago. Being new at this game I was nothing short of horrified by the sight of it all. Not sure what I had been thinking - that I could float around in delicate tops with neat bump underneath? Yeah, right....

Is ok being at work, although have an evening class later, so it's a bit of a long day. Couldn't ask for a more lovely dp though, so am being well looked after/nagged on the "slow down" front.

Toots · 24/04/2004 16:45

Harman. Poor you. So sorry things aren't great.

Turtle35 · 24/04/2004 16:45

Toothache thanks for the advice, I feel so guilty taking anything, I know it's supposed to be OK to take paracetemol but I still feel like I am supposed to tough it out before succumbing to drugs.

I woke up this am with the Mother of all headaches and thought for a nano second I was hung over and it was Sunday!! Then realised I don't drink any more and damn I have to go to work!!

beansprout · 24/04/2004 16:49

Harman - you poor thing. I don't know much about SPD other than the fact that it can be incredibly painful. Please don't listen to the voice that tells you using crutches you need is "making a fuss".

Good luck for the scan. Sorry to hear things are difficult with dp, that can't be easy. Are you worried about anything in particular, or just generally anxious (which of course, I completely understand!) x

Turtle35 · 24/04/2004 17:02

Harman I am so sorry to hear you are having such a rough time, I hope things start to improve for you, good luck with the scan, I am sure it will go just fine. Hang in there.

In that case Harman, will send you a stiff upper lip type hug (the sort that blokes do where they sort of thump each other on the back rather than the more deeply felt proper hug).

Hope it goes well at Relate. Have been there before now - never the easiest hour of the week. Take care.

piglit · 24/04/2004 17:20

Good luck for tonight and for tomorrow Harman. We're all really keen to know all about your scan even if your dp isn't so please post about it as soon as you can. We'll all be checking in to see how it went. And thanks for your advice on SPD.

eyelash · 24/04/2004 18:20

My god - so much news to catch up on.

Harman - it will obviously be an emotional few days for you. I hope the counceling tonight, and the scan tomorrow go well. It must be even harder with the spd and three children to worry about as well. How do you cope.

Re maternity knickers - our local M&S had quite sexy maternity ones on sale reduced from £8 to &5 - get down to the shop and bulk buy

Geoteach - hope it went well today. How did your boss react?

Toots - lol re chips. Are def my favs at the moment but trying to resist as do not want to be a beached whale come September/October. One of my friends was very nice last week and said I had the cutest bump but still 23 weeks to go.

Beansprout - glad you are feeling better after your incident last week. Just remember to take your bodies lead. If you need to rest do so. The one time people won't complain too much is when you are pregnant. I totally understand your comment re the tummy in work. I think it is visible proof you have had sex and now you are more than just a colleague - you are a babymaking machine. I personally make as little of it as possible and just get on with it. Although I have always found it difficult in later months when very large.

Apologies for the very long post.

Hope everybody else is well. Has there been anything from Debra64.

Boss was good - even offering me bits of work for the future - not sure she believes i'm sahm material, she may be right! Would quite like to have been a fly on the wall when she told the senior staff though.
Sorry some of you are feeling rough still.
Went out on Friday night with some mum friends who have babies same age as DD and one of them is pregnant too - she'll have an even smaller gap than me which made me feel better but hers is no 2 rather than 3 like me.

florenceuk · 25/04/2004 12:07

Harman, good luck for the scan (and everything else). Hope it helps to relieve a bit of anxiety anyway - I didn't really believe I was pregnant until I had the scan.

Got out my maternity clothes and realised how much bigger I am going to get! My bump has popped out (crepey stomach now smooth-ish which actually is an improvement) and am in that uncomfortable in-between stage where nothing actually fits. Still, the rate I am eating I will make it up soon.

I'm on Mumsnet while DS watching Balamory! Thank God for start of term. Tried to get a freeview box but it won't work on our small crap TV and can't really justify new TV. I am going to stock up on videos for the last trimester.

sweetkitty · 25/04/2004 12:37

harman - so sorry to hear you are having a hard time my SPD comes and goes but is mostly manageable, just hope it stays like it. I'll keep my fingers crossed for the scan.

I ahve had the opposite re: headaches since being pregnant. I usually suffer from migraines and headaches in general. It's a running joke I keep Migraleve going. Since being pregnant I have had about 2 bad headaches very wierd!

I got a lacy maternity bra and matching thongs from m&s that are actually really comfy (and huge)!

Turtle35 · 25/04/2004 16:43

Just lost a load of work after computer crashed and am so annoyed I decided to check up on m/n.

Harman please do let us know how things have gone when you can. I have been thinking of you

piglit · 25/04/2004 18:03

Harman - let us know how you got on as soon as you can. We've all been thinking about you....

beansprout · 25/04/2004 18:17

Same sentiment Harman - hope you are ok.
Glad it went well Geogteach.

Yesterday I learnt that if I eat my own body weight in Tortilla Chips I have a raging thirst for the end of the day.... so why have I done the same again today?!!!

harman - very pleased your scan went well. Now you just have to deal with all the emotional stuff. Thinking of you.

Anyway - had a bit of spotting overnight and although not too worried I rang the hospital this morning. They said to come in for a quick check. I thought they would just check my cervix and baby's heartbeat but top consultant took me away for a scan. Absolutely delighted I saw baby again and best of all there was no mistaking it was a big strapping boy. So 3 ds's for me - I feel very priviledged and delighted and haven't stopped grinning all day. I personally love knowing the sex as I can oicture the baby more and feel we can properly call him 'he' and give him a name.

Also turns out I have the most horrendous thrush which she felt contributed to my discomfort and spotting so a date with a pessary for me tonight.
