That's great Sooz, I am getting jealous now that everyone else has had theirs. How old is your DS? Do you have far to travel to the hospital?

Does anyone know of a good yoga dvd I can buy for preganancy? I can't seem to find any classes in my area or they are all during the day. What about us working Moms to be who desperately need some exercise!!

sooz31 · 02/06/2004 16:32

thanks turtle. when is your scan? don't worry, I'm sure the time will fly by, especially as you're working.

DS was 2 in Feb, and thankfully the hospital is only an 2 stop easy train ride away (not worth the hassle of driving through kingston during the day). Downside is come October I bet DH will suggest we get to the hospital by train rather than take a cab or car?! Nice!

beansprout · 02/06/2004 16:39

Sooz - surely he wouldn't make you go on a train when in labour?!! They haven't even done that on Casualty!!

Turtle35 · 02/06/2004 16:39

My scan is a week next Tuesday 8 June. I couldn't imagine getting on a train in labour:0 that made me laugh! Clearly you will insist on getting the bus instead!!

Depending on how this pg goes (fingers crossed) I think I would like to have one more and as I am getting up there (35) I wonder if we should try to have another one soonish after.

Would you suggest it? Guess it's still to early for you tell and I suppose so much depends on the first child?

miffy2 · 02/06/2004 16:44

I am not 100% sure the feelings are BH, except my tummy definitely hardened with them, they last for about 20-30 seconds, and are not at all painful or uncomfortable.

Last time round when I explained to my doc what I was experiencing he told me they were more than likely Braxton Hicks. He also said they can be experienced early on and get more frequent as time goes on - last time they started off once a week and got more and more frequent. So I put it down to him!

Anyway, as I said I never had any first time round. The only way to describe them is a feeling of heat or adrenalin surging upwards, very strange but not unpleasant at all!

sooz31 · 02/06/2004 17:15

Bean, you're probably right, but it honestly wouldn't surprise me!

Turtle, IMO suggest you see how you get on with no.1 before you start to plan no.2. I had similar thoughts BC, but age gap of 2+ seems just right for us now.

Most grateful that bus routes to hospital much less of an option!

Anyone else got a real thing for marmite going on? Can't get enough of it at the moment.

Toots · 02/06/2004 17:15

So nice to hear all your news. The 'Add a Message' box came up really quickly just now, so hope I'll be able to post.

Florence - not really a skirty girl, so can't give any tips, but really hope you find something you're happy with.

Miffy2 - hope the Dublin weather lifts. Was very amused to read about your 'generous uterus', perhaps when you've finished having babies it could become a patron of the arts or do important work overseas.

Congratulations on your scans Beansprout and Bibbiboo. Mine's on 7th Turtle, does seem to be coming round slowly.

Toots · 02/06/2004 17:27

Sooz31. The number 75 goes from pretty much outside my door to the hospital! Scary proposition.

sooz31 · 02/06/2004 17:32

There we go laydies, one more thing to add to hospital bag checklist: up do date travelcard!!

beansprout · 02/06/2004 17:54

lol at the "generous uterus"!!

My god, being in labour on public transport in London doesn't bear thinking about!!

Turtle35 · 02/06/2004 18:10

the generous uterus made me laugh to, I hope I have one!!!

beansprout · 02/06/2004 18:59

That will on my list with "a baby with an abnormally small head, that comes out very, very quickly please".

sooz31 · 02/06/2004 20:17

Am off to collect DS from nursery - have a great weekend all.

Allyco · 04/06/2004 17:45

hi, i'm new. Due 06/10/04. Wanted advice: had 20 week scan and asked sex (nosy) they said is a little girl I said are you sure they said never sure until it's born can only be sure then! Now worried - thought would be easy once we knew sex to decide names, buy stuff etc. but now worrying in case she turns out to be he and so bought nowt and no names thought of. In all your experiences, do midwives/sonographers only say what they think babe is if they reasonably sure? Ooh and is anyone still sicky at 22 weeks?

geogteach · 04/06/2004 23:59

Hi Allyco!
Can't really comment on Sex issue as I didn't find out with last 2 - but plenty of friends have and I don't know any where it went wrong. To be honest we had 2 names ready so both children were named as soon as they were born and as for buying stuff we just went nuetral, you get so many presents when they're born its best to hold off buying too much - I know its tempting!

eyelash · 05/06/2004 09:55

Hello all

We have just come back from 2 weeks in Portugal which was wonderful. The boys really enjoyed it as did dh and I. So I haven't read all the messages since I have been away but welcome to all newcomers. Only 9 weeks till I finish work - yipee

Has anybody else got a huge bump?

OP posts:
Toots · 05/06/2004 11:06

Enormous bump. Really quite obvious. Sure people think I'm due about July.

Allyco, sorry you're still feeling sick. It's most likely a girl, if that's what they said, but again, not 100%.

Dreamt the baby was a boy and slept in to mid-day.

Allyco · 05/06/2004 14:06

hi geogteach and toots thanks for posting. Would've replied earlier but was puking, again.

Got big bump too and big Braxton Hicks.

Thinking of early discharge frm hospital this time. Does anyone know what the minimum stay is??

miffy2 · 05/06/2004 14:18

Allyco,

I am almost 20 weeks and still getting sick about twice a week. If I eat big in the evening or if I try to be a bit adventurous and have a curry I usually pay for it...

Re the sex, on baby #2 we were told he was most likely a boy. Turned out they were right. I had bought some blue stuff in the sales (as baby #1 was a DD) and we had chosen a name BUT just in case, had also got a stand-by name and baby's first babygro was in a neutral colour. If this is your first you will be inundated with baby clothes as gifts, and most things like prams, cots, decor, tend to be neutral in colour too so perhaps prepare as much as you are willing to, in case you have a boy and not a girl!

Turtle35 · 06/06/2004 00:06

Hi Allyco welcome & congratulations!

I am going for 20 week scan in a week and I am really tempted to ask but nervous for the same reason as you!! I keep saying he and now am convinced because I thought it was a boy it will be a girl - keep changing my mind. Hope your sickness improves - poor thing.

Bump is getting enormous - but I love it!

Toots · 06/06/2004 00:48

Greetings incubators. Can you all help me with a straw poll on fitness. Just for my own interest.

Before getting pg, I was a pretty regular gym user and about a stone overweight. Nothing too hectic - 30-40 minutes treadmill or cross-trainer, not very fast and some light weights. Have hardly been able to go lately because of lower back trouble. Went for what would normally have been a 30-40 minute walk today and found it SUCH hard work. I sighed and groaned all the way back. How are you lot doing in this area?

beansprout · 06/06/2004 14:01

Hi Allyco and everyone else too

Toots - I used to run and have always been fairly fit. Now I find myself walking a lot more slowly and puffing away if I try and go too fast. Started yoga last week and even that seemed to knacker the muscles in my legs. I make sure I walk a lot, eat well and tell myself I am doing what I can but really, I'm not the woman I used to be!

sooz31 · 06/06/2004 14:31

Hi all.

Hi Allyco, my sister was told she was having a girl and they were right. My impression is that unless they really can't get a clear view, they can be pretty certain. But agree with all other advice posted - you'll be inundated with pressies so stick to neutral stuff.

Humph, fitness... really missing exercise but can only blame myself - just haven't managed to find pool or yoga classes (we've not long been in our new house). Used to be fit (played hockey every week until January). Feeling very chubby and yes, I have a huge bump (I'm only 5'2" - should change nickname to weeble!).

BIBIBOO · 06/06/2004 16:26

LOL Sooz,

I am 5ft 1 and feel like a weeble too! Bump seems to have grown like amad thing in the last 3 days - Saturday I looked overweight and now there's no mistaking I'm preggers!

Went on wild shopping spree in H&M yesterday, but bought bigger stuff rather than maternity as it was all a bit tatty in maternity section. Am taking 90% of it abck today and am resigning myself to tatty maternity wear instead. It's either that or spend a fortune in Next and to be honest, I'd rather spend the money on Bubs!

Any advice on travel systems etc that will fit into odd shaped boot of a VW Beetle? We tried a Graco at the weekend and had no luck! Maybea a trip to Mothercare World is on order.

Hope you're all keeping well gals,

x

beansprout · 06/06/2004 16:59

Ooh, ooh my favourite current subject - have been on 2 travelsystem/pram hunting trips over the weekend!! Most TSs seem to be quite heavy, a friend of mine regrets buying hers for this reason.

Any thoughts/experience on this my fellow meece?
(lol at the weebles too!)
