Congratulations, Bean! And going by the infant conduct in the Inferiority Complex, actually that means a girl

BIBIBOO · 30/05/2004 12:49

Aw Bean, that's lovely! I am certain baby is a boy, like you say, a little lady wouldn't wee on camera!

I am v excited about Friday now - I've been told this scan will be longer than the other I had, but how long?

huppa · 30/05/2004 12:51

That´s great Beansprout - glad everything went o.k

BIBIBOO · 30/05/2004 12:52

I just read the thread called "The Show" - not for the weak of stomach. I feel v v sick now. I don't want that thank you.

beansprout · 30/05/2004 14:20

Thanks everyone!
Sooz - I took your advice. Once that image appears I am so fascinated, the worries almost disappear! I could watch it all day!
Bibiboo - this one takes 20-25 mins. There are a whole load of things they need to have a look at, plus they are dealing with trying to find the right angle to get various measurements they need etc.

Re the show - that's not the bit I am worried about!!!

sooz31 · 30/05/2004 14:43

Bean, glad to hear it went so well. Did you get pictures to show off to everyone?

beansprout · 30/05/2004 14:46

I did Sooz and am boring the ar$e off everyone!!

I was awake in the early hours this morning and I did start feeling a bit weird at the thought that there is actually a person inside me!
(What did I think was happening?!!)

BIBIBOO · 30/05/2004 15:11

Oooh, 20 minutes of seeing my little baby, can't wait!

Against my better judgement (and the warnings of several friends) I watched ER on Second Chance Sunday and I think this scan will put me at ease again on Friday.

Anyone else watch it and cry? Like a baby?

BIBIBOO · 30/05/2004 17:21

Spookily quiet around these parts today ... are we all working hard or out enjoying the sun? I'm lonely and stuck in the office with no other mums to be to talk to... ;(

beansprout · 30/05/2004 17:47

Hi B
Sorry, just a bit busy this end, have a lot of work to do today...
I keep reading that I am supposed to feel like I have lots of energy at the moment - where is it?!! I just still feel tired all the time and a bit uncomfortable to be honest. Scan confirmed that baby is really quite big (and I really am not) so just feeling a bit heavy and a bit daunted, given that I am not even 5 months yet!! Eek!

BIBIBOO · 30/05/2004 18:05

You poor thing Bean - my last midwife appointment told me my babe was large for dates, but when I had a scan to check (s)he was okay (after I had bleeding), I was told (s)he was normal size.

Just think of "poor ole" Gwyneth P, she had a whopper come out of that tiny little stick she calls a body (jealous...moi?). Maybe baby's had a recent growth spurt and will slow down in the next month or so - us 1st timers have to live in hope!

I only feel massive and achey at night, but have had loads of pulling pains today low down. Hope that doesn't mean babe is on it's way into giant baby territory like its father who was a 10 pounder!

beansprout · 30/05/2004 18:09

How big was Apple then? Was she a whopper?!

Good thinking on the growth spurt - fingers crossed! Have signed up for ante natal yoga classes today, so hopefully that will help me strengthen a few places that could do with it at the moment!

Are you ok today?

BIBIBOO · 30/05/2004 18:17

I've heard form the very reliable source that is Closer magazine that she was 9lb 11oz which is fair old size by my reckoning, especially for a natural labour!

I thought about yoga/pilates for a while, then realised I had already started my own verison of exercise which consists of getting up off sofa, walking to loo, getting back down onto sofa about 10 times in an evening, repeated at least 3 times during the night (not that I sleep ont he sofa!) I think that's sufficient for now. Like you, don't have the rush of energy "they" all tell you about. DH swears I am loads better than I was up to week 14, but it's such a gradual thing I don't think I've noticed. I'm not asleep by 8pm now, I stay up until at least 9:30, so I must be a little more energetic.

Am on my own in the office this afternoon so am skiving, reading trashy magazines instead of doing Structural Fund appraisals... can you blame me? Bet you're still bouncing from your scan aren't you?

miffy2 · 30/05/2004 18:26

Ladies,
on the subject of baby's weight, on my other two pregnancies I remember the Doc being very non-committal, saying they were a 'grand' size (in the Irish sense!). When I asked him to be more specific he muttered something about the average weight being around 8lbs. Well, the results were 7lbs 5 (DD) and 8lbs 5 (DS). Also I was huge on both babies - he told me I have a very generous uterus (!) So I would say not to worry. At the end of the day it has one way to come out (unless you go for a section) and I think the odd lb. or two doesn't make that much difference, unless it's all in the head area (oops, did I break the non-disclosure of labour agreement?)

BIBIBOO · 30/05/2004 18:34

I suppose a head is a haed and it's going to hurt no matter who big or small. Enough said. No more birth talk now, or you'll have us running away crying into our amternity dresses!

BIBIBOO · 30/05/2004 18:36

Why can't I spell anymore? Or are my pg fingers now too fat to hit individual keys on the keyboard?

florenceuk · 30/05/2004 23:23

Hi everyone! Very exciting today, first time I could feel baby kicking! Big solid kicks, not just flutters - I could feel them by putting my hand on my tummy. Tried to get DS to feel it too, but he was too busy. Although we talk about the baby coming, it isn't really real to him yet.

BTW has anybody found a really nice maternity skirt for summer yet? I want something nice and plain, like brown linen.

Toots · 31/05/2004 16:08

Keeping this short as keep trying to post then pc crashes. Hello, basically. Won't try anything more fancy than that.

motherinferior · 31/05/2004 16:13

Bean, baby isn't necessarily going to be huge. DD2 was on course to be a good size larger than her sister - but that was projecting to 40 weeks. She emerged when ready, 16 days early, six pounds 14. Don't worry. Too much. At the moment

miffy2 · 02/06/2004 13:21

Everyone is very quiet - are you out enjoying the sunshine? Unfortunately the weather has turned here (Dublin) and it is back to rain and wind. Hope it picks up next week.
How y'all doin'? I am enjoying showing off my bump and no longer looking 'is she/isn't she?'

Hope to start pregnancy yoga and aqua-aerobics next week now that all sickness is gone and I have rekindled my love-affair with chocolate...

I hope you are all enjoying your 20-week scans and taking the time to look after yourselves and your bumps - great excuse to splash out on the yummy oils, creams etc to rub into the tum!

miffy2 · 02/06/2004 13:24

Oooh, forgot to mention, I started geting Braxton Hicks the other day! Like everything else in pregnancy they are next to impossible to understand unless you have already felt them!
On my first pregnancy I did not get a single one, last time round I got them regularly from 5 months. I was sitting in the car the other day and got this strange sensation, and I had to go through a list of possibilities before I remembered what it was. It sort of feels like a mild period cramp, mixed in with that strange feeling that creeps over you when you realise you have forgotten something important, or have said something wrong, you know that 'flush' that creeps all over you?
Hope that makes some sense!

BIBIBOO · 02/06/2004 13:50

Hi All,

Just a quick one to say I had 20 week anomaly scan this morning and everything is fine with Baby H! Oooh, so pleased I can't stop smiling! :0

beansprout · 02/06/2004 14:45

Great news Bibiboo!

Miffy, I am intrigued by your BH description. Do they hurt or is it just an odd sensation? Is it like the movement in that they start earlier for subsequent babies. Just wondering when to expect them....

Hope you are all well

sooz31 · 02/06/2004 15:59

Good to hear your scan went well Bibiboo. I had mine this morning too and all is very well. We took DS with us who was more thrilled at the journey there and back on the train, than by the 'funny tv'. But he was an angel and just sat there watching it all!

Am amazed at your BHs miffy - I had NO idea they might start so early on. Crikey! Hope they're not too uncomfy for you.

Turtle35 · 02/06/2004 16:04

Really pleased for you Bibiboo - I still have a week to go before mine, am really excited too.

I have been getting weird feelings like the baby is rolling around inside, I didn't think BH started until much later in the pregnancy?
