Hi Bakewell! I've got my 20 week scan next Tuesday. Dh and I are going to ask the sex but I know lots of people prefer not to know. It's a very personal decision but I can imagine it's hard if one of you wants to know but the other one doesn't!!

miffy2 · 16/05/2004 18:11

Bakewell,
I too have my scan next week. On DD's pregnancy neither of us wanted to know the sex and we were happy to wait. On number two (DS) we both wanted to find out, we did (DS obliged by showing us his wares ) and we also told everyone what we were expecting.

This time round is probably our last and I am torn between knowing (it is lovely being able to choose one name, and if you are like me, to ogle the baby boy/girl clothes) and between having the excitement of the wait.

Gut feel says we will try to find out, hope I don't regret not having the surprise element.

BTW, we made the right decision both times before.

BIBIBOO · 16/05/2004 19:10

Hi Everyone,

Can I play too? I'm due Oct 19th with 1st baby and have nothing to complain about today as I'm feeling fine. Although...maternity trousers! Who invented the stupid ones with the zips on both sides and buttons at the back?! I've nearly wet myself by the time I've got them down to go to the loo. Ont he plus side, they are v smart for work and make me feel better than elasticated waist ones which give my bottom that extra (unnecessary) bit of padding!

beansprout · 16/05/2004 20:40

Bibiboo - Welcome to the strand!!
I know what you mean about the trousers. Find myself at work, putting off trips to the toilet as the mechanism involved feels like too much hassle.... good grief!!

20w scan here is on 24th May (will be 20+5). We won't be asking. Dp feels v strongly that he doesn't want to and I am happy not to on the basis that I will know soon enough! Part of me would like to but I couldn't keep it a secret!

Bakewell · 17/05/2004 15:01

Hi Bibidoo - congratulations!

Thanks for all the advice on the 20 wk scan - talked it over with DH last night and we've decided not to find out, give me something to look forward when I'm in labour...

BIBIBOO · 17/05/2004 16:44

I can't wait until my 20 week scan (28th May), but part of me is sad because all going well, it'll be the last one I have before baby arrives. We've not going to find out the sex either - I don't think I could bear being told I was having one and it came out the other, it would totally mess me up, so we're going to wait until he/she can show us what he/she is!

I'm still in the stage where I look like I ate all the pies rather than I'm growing a baby, when do I get my lovely round bump?

florenceuk · 17/05/2004 19:19

Harman, hope you are OK. Sounds horribly stressful - everything you don't need just now.

Turtle35 · 18/05/2004 15:13

I love my bump but is anyone else feeling a bit fed up? a day doesn't seem to go by where I don't feel awful, i.e. pains in tummy (stretching) bleeding gums, bleeding nose, wicked headaches, cramps in legs, unbeleivable constipation and plain old exhaustion!! I feel like all I do is complain - can't believe I am only 17 weeks and still have 23 to go!!

Sorry to be such a misery guts

piglit · 18/05/2004 15:31

Don't worry - I'm sure we are all the same! I'm 19 weeks and I keep telling myself that it's nearly half way so that's only another 21 weeks of blocked/bleeding nose, sneezing, hyper-sensitive sense of smell, twitchy legs, twinges that make me panic and so on. And we are supposed to be blooming now! I find that the only thing that helps with all of this is to try to get lots of rest. The more tired I am then the worse I feel. Are you sleeping/resting ok?

miffy2 · 18/05/2004 15:52

Me tired, so very tired!
I could not sleep a wink last night, tossing ad turning, just could not get comfy. Ended up going back to bed at 8 when DH took kids to creche, slept great till 10 and made it in to work before 11. Thankfully have a sympathetic manager (who knows how sick I have been without taking a sick day) and feel slightly better now.

Have just finished a good novel, called the Diary of a Mad Mother-to-be. US-based but very funny and appropriate.

BIBIBOO · 18/05/2004 16:34

Turtle,

I am 17 weeks too and have all the same complaints as you, as well as leaky boobs! I am just counting myself lucky that I don't have any other children to look after as I really don't know how I would cope. I can barely look after myself on a daily basis I'm so tired - who are these compulsive liars who feel compelled to write in books about how wonderful, full of life and blooming we should be by now? Lets find them, gang up on them and force them to listen to us moaning all day long!

Turtle35 · 18/05/2004 18:31

Very good idea! I like it, I also feel very pathetic at times, not having any children and a very sympathetic DH who cooks and does laundry! I know I should feel lucky but I am a wimpy Moose these days who never expected it to be like this. By the way glowing - what's that

BIBIBOO · 18/05/2004 18:38

I think "glowing" is a code word for "sweaty and hot all the time" - not a very good code though!

piglit · 18/05/2004 18:57

I've just seen the ladies on the August thread talking about maternity pants. What? More loss of dignity? Maternity pants?? I naively thought I'd just stick with my usual M&S thongs until the bitter end.

beansprout · 18/05/2004 19:23

Oh God Piglit, I agree. I walked into Mothercare in very early days (to buy a present for someone) and saw the paper pants. I stood there, freaking out saying "oh my god, what happens that can't be washed out?!!!"

Any undergarments prefixed with "maternity" just mean "upholstered". I think dp is a bit warped to find me attractive at the moment, but hey, I'm not knocking it.

motherinferior · 18/05/2004 19:31

This thread is soooo good for my incipient broodiness

piglit · 18/05/2004 19:33

Beansprout - LOL at "buying a present for someone" !!!! I ventured into Mothercare today and bought some white cargo type trousers. For a friend.

beansprout · 18/05/2004 19:37

Piglit - how could you doubt the sprout?!! It was for dp's sister, who was about to pop at the time!!
Honest, honest, honest!!!

piglit · 18/05/2004 19:37

Thanks for reminding me dinosaur! I daren't even look at that bit in my book.

Turtle35 · 18/05/2004 19:57

Yes Dinosaur, we first timers don't talk about that yet!! to scary for words

I thought I was being clever/sexy buying g-string maternity pants from Emma Jane but they are starting to get tight around the hips and creating a third roll in the bump! I am not sure what to resort to next?? I hate big pants, and panty lines - Yuk

geogteach · 18/05/2004 23:14

Hi all, 20 week scan round here has moved to 23 so got a while to wait! I won't find out - haven't done for other 2 and was plesently suprised second time round as lots of my friends told me how much they'd enjoyed waiting for me to 'pop' compared to the others in the group who had found out. Sympathy to those with nose bleeds, had a couple this time but had loads last time and ended up off work - not very dignified trying to teach a bunch of 15 year olds with blood pooring down your front!

eyelash · 19/05/2004 10:42

Hello all

My - but you have been busy!

Had our 20 week scan yesterday and everything fine - thank god. We know we are having a little boy and it was pretty obvious yesterday so even if we didn't want to know we would have seen yesterday.

It got me thinking though about how lucky we all are to be at this stage - complaints and all. Other current threads and those who have had miscarriages (fisil's in particular as she started the original thread) make me realise how lucky I am to have 2 happy, healthy dss and another ds well on the way.

BTW I do have a tendancy to complain but am actually so enjoying being pregnant this time. Might be to do that this is our last and ds1 who is 4 is very excited.

We are off on our hols for two weeks so catch up with you all soon.

Turtle - I bought two packs of M&S 'minis' - they have lycra in them and just an elastic strip round the side - in my last pregnancy, in my normal size; they fitted brilliantly under the bump (honestly, they just about cover your pubes) and in fact I'm still wearing them as my ordinary pants (accessorized with a very fetching nursing bra).
