I'm having a bit of a wobble today, about to go to work for a 10 hour shift n im having aura in my vision, can barly see out of my right eye, can barly read my phone n can't even see my right hand typing, I have no headache or anythin to go with it yet (iv had 2 migraines in my life were iv had aura n the headache normally comes after) but I read somewhere a while ago it was a pre-eclampsia symptom so it's bringing about another wobble! I realise it's not a symptom in itself, and like I say other than feelin rubbish (been feelin a little off in myself for a few days) I have no symptoms of anythin, I think I may need a fish slap...

Cakebaker35 · 21/05/2014 13:55

alb I don't think you need a fish slap, I think you should give your gp a call. Even if just to put your mind at rest. I wouldn't ignore those symptoms even without pregnancy tbh and don't go to work feeling like that, you'll just feel even worse. Get well soon x

fedupofrainydays · 21/05/2014 14:35

For those of you worried about stressing. Yes it's not good but us but MW also said it wasn't harmful for baby / likely to cause a mc. I had started to stress about stressing! Nightmare. 3 different medical people said stress wouldn't increase my chance of mc.

It can in severe cases like a bereavement of a close family member cause issues but not just us having a flap about some cream or chemical. So I hear anyway.

fedupofrainydays · 21/05/2014 14:41

My mum phoned me up today to tell me she had met a woman with the same situation as me. One ds then 2 mc then on her next preg was totally paranoid and neurotic like me. Apparently my mum had thought I was a totally irrational but now feels it's a 'normal' reaction after a mc. Apparently I should be reassured by this - but I already know about you ladies and how each of us feel the same worries so I know I'm not alone!
To be fair to my mum she did say she hadn't been through it so didn't really understand, but felt relieved that I wasn't completely mental. Cheers mum. She says the silliest stuff sometimes. Oh well.

QuietTiger · 21/05/2014 15:45

Amum- I'm having acupuncture once a week. No idea if it works, but it gives me an hour to relax that's just for me.

Having said that, I went and saw the acupuncturist just before I ovulated in April about fertility issues (Coincidence rather than design). She "did some stuff and stuck some needles in" and blow me, I got my BFP that cycle. Grin

The only real thing I'm doing differently this pregnancy to all my other pregnancies, is that I am not using my chiropractor and am instead using an acupuncturist.

I haven't used my chiro for about 5 months now, whereas I was going about every 2 weeks. I'm not convinced that chiropractic is safe in pregnancy - only my personal experience, but I feel it is a bit more than coincidence that this time I appear to be managing to hang on to my little bean... At least for today anyway, if the sickness is anything to go by.

DH and I have decided to have the NIFT/Harmony blood tests. Hopefully it will mean we can avoid an amnio/CVS test. I think DH wants to find out the sex pretty quickly too - he's already trying to decide if he needs to invest in ponies (girl) or Go-Karts/Ice-hockey (boy). I've told him it's a little early, but he won't listen! Grin

QuietTiger · 21/05/2014 15:46

ALB1 - go and see your GP. At least you will have reassurance about what is going on.

Seasides · 21/05/2014 15:51

Yep, I'd say so too alb - sounds uncomfortable for you at the least, and certainly not something you should head to work with.

Emki · 21/05/2014 16:04

Thank you for the new thread squiz - have had a quick scan as haven't been on for a while (crazily moving house right on due date) Hope all enjoying the weather and taking it easy now its all sweaty out there.

I've just come back from my 40wk appt - booked in for an induction next week ... not going to fight them as i did with DD1 - really wanted a natural birth so held off for a couple of weeks - and did finally get my natural birth) however this time I'm not too bothered, just want a healthy baby however it may come. However saying that I've booked for acupuncture tomorrow and will have lots of spicy food etc... in the hope that I won't have to be induced.

klou thinking of you and hope you get some answers soon.

Hope all went okay at your scan Engles

big hugs to penguinita my due date buddy!

Emki · 21/05/2014 16:09

alb1 how you doing? Do book into the GP, just to get some reassurance.

squizita · 21/05/2014 17:01

Alb see your GP. But don't worry - my mum had auras and high blood pressure but not pre-eclampsia, and they treated it pronto. So it's not always 'worst case scenario' but best to get treated.

fedupofrainydays · 21/05/2014 17:17

Hope you are ok alb. I wouldn't go to work tho.

Penguin13 · 21/05/2014 19:03

Alb that sounds pretty uncomfortable if not actually painful. It doesn't necessarily mean something dangerous but I'd worth getting checked out if only for your own peace of mind.

bakingtins · 21/05/2014 19:28

Can I suggest those of you feeling anxious (that's everyone, then) give Natal Hypnotherapy a whirl? There's a pregnancy relaxation track you can use from early on, a birth perpetration CD they recommend in third trimester, and (though I haven't tried this one) a recovery from trauma track recommended for birth trauma or previous loss. You can buy a CD or download from iTunes. The relaxation track is only 10 mins, has to be worth committing that long each day to being more relaxed and positive?

Alb1 · 21/05/2014 21:24

I gained a headache for an hour or so but then the whole thing eased off, I cudnt get out of work anyway tho as finding cover can be impossible, think I may phone the docter in the morning anyway n get checked out tho cos it meant I cudnt drive or even eat properly cos I cudnt see properly so don't really wana go driving around if it's gona come back.

emki fx u go into labour naturally but atleast the end is very near!

Penguin13 · 21/05/2014 22:23

Thank you for your hypnotherapy suggestion Baking, I'm definitely going to give it a whirl. I know a few people who've said it's really helped them. Even BIL was raving about the sessions they've done and he is not the kind of person you could imagine rating that kind of thing, being so pragmatic and practically minded. If nothing else, taking a few minutes each day to relax can only be a positive thing. Is there a specific cd you'd recommend?

bakingtins · 21/05/2014 22:47

I have the Maggie Howell one ( google Natal Hypnotherapy) The one I have is Effective Birth Preparation for Hospital/ Birth Centre but there are various options. Mine includes a relaxation track but a quick look at the website suggests there is now a 'pregnancy' CD designed to be used earlier on.

bakingtins · 21/05/2014 22:49

alb glad you are feeling better. Hope it has gone never to return!

Good luck emki and penguinita and stars not many on front of me in the queue now!

bakingtins · 21/05/2014 22:50

Birth preparation stupid autocorrect!

Penguinita · 22/05/2014 08:56

I have the Maggie Howell hypnotherapy CD and book too, have been trying to listen to it every day since being on mat leave. There is a 15 minute relaxation track as well as the 40 minute hypnotherapy track (although I usually fall asleep in that one too!). I would recommend it for relaxation. Whether it helps with birth is something I'll be testing in the next fortnight!

I think "hypnotherapy" is an unfortunate name really, it is just simple relaxation, common sense and letting your body do what it instinctively knows. No hippy trippy stuff.

Good luck to you too baking, emki, stars - not long till our bumps become babies! Wow, never thought we would get here!

Cuppachaplz · 22/05/2014 09:16

Hi everyone.
alb glad to hear you're feeling a bit better! hope you get checked out though
baking fab idea re hypnotherapy relaxation! Defo worth a go :)
penguin less than fortnight! how exciting. Best wishes for a smooth birth x
Booking in today. How did that sneak up on me without several days of stressing about 'will I make that far', I guess all the other dramas have served a purpose after all ;)

squizita · 22/05/2014 09:57

I've just been referred to my community team for my next appointment according to a letter this morning. The thing is, I've got all over my notes "YELLOW: HIGH RISK: ST MARYS CONSULTANT CARE ONLY: RMC!" (literally like that all over the front).
It would be lovely and convenient to go local for my appointments: but I don't want to turn up and them go "oh, hang on, no we can't see you after all."

Have emailed/rang the office to check.

it's very exciting to think we will have more thread babies in just a few weeks time! Good advice on the hypno/relax stuff will look up Maggie Howells.

I have my booking in next week - I've never had one before as they do them quite late in my neck of the woods. Any advice on this? I'm not sure what to expect.....Confused

Cuppachaplz · 22/05/2014 10:20

amicable the last one I went to was over a decade ago! Will let you know this afternoon ;)

Another triumph for NHS communications and record keeping, squiz?
the best I experienced was after an MC when DS was about 6mo, I had bed witting a long time so was feeding him. The doc asked me if I had had any successful pregnancies. Nope, none at all, I gave just stolen a baby and clamped him to my boob in the hope that something might happen...
Hope you get it sorted out x

bakingtins · 22/05/2014 10:22

squiz check, but it's probably fine. I was discharged from the RMC clinic after first trimester and have had most of my appointments in the community, I'm only high risk now because of problems with my previous delivery, not the MCs. "Shared care" will probably be to your advantage.

On which note (whispers) I may be about to queue jump - had a show this morning, baby has dropped down, feel sick, had mild diarrhoea and I feel a bit odd.... mother is on the way, blue lights flashing (well, she's getting a train down, blue lights only metaphorical) I'll feel very silly if it's all a false alarm but with my boys show was fairly swiftly followed by labour. Will feel much better once Mum is here and I know I don't have to frantically phone round for someone to have the boys. She's happy to pretend she is just visiting for the weekend if it all goes quiet again! eeeek.

Cuppachaplz · 22/05/2014 10:25

baking, how exciting.
Wishing you either a swift and easy labour, or a lovely weekend with your mam x
