Toothache · 06/06/2004 11:07

lol NT! How's Mollie doing this week?

Helsbels · 06/06/2004 11:47

morning all - is everyone ready to start taking their raspberry leaf tea? Is everyone massaging their perineums every day? I've packed my bag too, Jems. Omly this week and next left at work then yippee!! Am so tired this time compared to last -= glad everyone seems to be doing well.

SpringChicken · 06/06/2004 12:07

Morning all - Did we all have an nice weekend?

Not started massaging my perineum Helsbels - not sure if i will be giving that one a try. Have got Raspberry leaf tea at home but decided against starting it after reading someone on here took it for the recommended length of time etc and had a horrific birth.

Furniture finally arrived on Saturday so we now have a wardrobe and changer in the nursery - all built with lovely freshly washed baby clothes in - i keep going in and opening up the doors and draws to look at everything
cot not been delivered yet but i can manage without that for a while yet.

Helsbels · 06/06/2004 12:11

massage is a must, Jems!! I took RLT last time and definately will be doing it again - I think it worked for me! Glad everyhting is going okay for you. Not long now

Toothache · 06/06/2004 12:20

Not going to be massaging my perenium either! I feel a bit weird about touching that area since I had my stitches last time.
I have my RLT ready and waiting. I'm going to start at 36 wks. (OMG that's only 5wks away!!)

SC - RLT won't cause a horrific labour.... but if there is a slim chance it might make a horrific labour less horrific then it's worth a try??

Helsbels · 06/06/2004 12:33

I had RLT - my labour pains started at 3 am got bad by 4.30 and ds who was back to back and shouuld have been a long and protracted labour was born at 7am after less than an hour pushing. I am doing everything the same this time in hope that it is as relatively 'easy' this time. I was pleasantly surprised by the speed of my last delivery and am too supersticious (sp) to risk anything!!!! Also only needed 6 stitches and they were only for grazes so will be massaging like a demon!!!

SpringChicken · 06/06/2004 12:44

I'm suprised you can't already tell me how my birth will be Helbels If you have an incling it is going to be short, straightforward and painfree let me know, anything else then i don't want to hear it

Think i will start taking the RLT - although did want to find the tablets from somewhere as they look far more appealing than the actual tea

Toothache · 06/06/2004 12:49

Helsbels - That sounds frighteningly similar to mine!! Drank 3 cups of RLT between 10pm - 11pm. Waters broke at 3am. Painful contractions started at 9am. Also had a back-ache labour which should've lasted much longer, but ds was born at 15.35pm.
However, I did need ALOT of stitching. Small price to pay for a relatively easy 1st labour.

lol SC - It's not that nice, but you can sweeten it up. And I always feel very self-indulgent when I'm sipping herbal tea. It feels like I'm really pampering myself. I think I'll get DH to massage my perenium at the same time.

Helsbels · 06/06/2004 12:51

yeah! The tea tastes like straw!! All I can say SC is that I truly believe that a positive attitude helps, also, trust the medical staff - go in with an idea - you know like, I don't want an epidural, I do want a water birth - whatever, but if plans have to change- go with the flow. At the end of the day however long your labour is or however short, it is finite and at the end the pain stops and you have a lovely baby girl. Try not to be frightened, it is the most natural thing in the world and you will be fine. Jst keep thinking of kissing that little baby and that will keep you going. {{{}}}I can honestly say that I've done it before and I am not at all scared of doing it again HTH

Helsbels · 06/06/2004 12:53

lol toothache - what a good idea to enlist help in the old perineal massage dept

SpringChicken · 06/06/2004 13:12

Is there something i should know Helsbels ????? Am i having a girl ????

littlerach · 06/06/2004 13:14

What do you use for the massage?!!
Started packing my bag, must start sorting clothes for baby now.
Helsbels, completely agree about trusting the staff, you have to do as you're told, I feel, as they have more experience than me!! My main worry last time was that I would tear, but I didn't, and I feel that was due to them telling me to stop and wait!

Helsbels · 06/06/2004 13:19

Jems - I've always thought that you were having a girl! Been wrong before though so don't buy all pink just yet!!!! Little rach, massage with wheatgerm oil or sweet almond if you are not allergic. Wheatgerm is cheaper though and just as good. Should start at about 34 weeks I think and RLT at 35-36 weeks. MMMMM... really looking forward to that!

Helsbels · 06/06/2004 13:20

Little Rach, my main worry was that I would do a pooh (and I did!!) but when it happens you don't give a damn!!

SpringChicken · 06/06/2004 13:25

I'm a bit worried about the pooing department too - I have told DP that if i do, the fact that i did is stay within those 4 walls and no-one is to ever ever know about it. I know it will come out sooner or later though.

Dp is getting fed up now - just wants the baby out - getting very impatient. Know how he feels, only 39 days til due date and 18 working days left. YIPPEEEEE

Helsbels · 06/06/2004 13:29

no-one knows if you have done a pooh, Jems. They whisk it away - the only reason you can tell is afterwards when you go to the loo and find the evidence (sorry to be graphic) Even DH didn't know. Honestly, they deal with it so often - don't worry!

Toothache · 06/06/2004 13:42

I was worried about pooing too.... and I did! Worst thing was that DH had to tell me I had as I was too out of it with Diamorphine to give a damn.

Vanity and dignity go out the window during labour! And it honestly won't matter to you at the time.... and it won't matter to your DP. He'll be too caught up in the whole process and too busy feeling like a spare part..... bless.

NorfolkTurkey · 06/06/2004 22:42

Oh no toothache! Its true though, dignity does go out of the window. I remember weeing alot when I gave birth to my last baby. Felt like niagra falls - didn't care though. This time after my caesarean, as I was so hot I just laid there in the nude - not a pretty sight . At the time, I couldn't have cared less if half of London was watching me!

Mollie's back on her three hourly feeds. Am nervous as that's when we had the hiccup with the bloated tum before. This time she's bigger and heavier (will hopefully be a four pounder today!) so hopefully she will tolerate it better. I hope so as we will be back to square one again.

Quackers · 07/06/2004 00:06

Hiya, glad Mollie is well Norfolk!! It's great you are able to post, as we all love hearing about her progress!

Yes, I'm sure I did a poo too as DH said they just whisked a sheet away and put another one in it;s place. I couldn;t have given a shiny shite (scuse pun and rudeness)!!! That's what scares me this time. How was it I was so out of it I didn;t care who did or saw anything!! I only had gas and air!
Today I had my second growth scan, looks like bubbs has caught up quite a bit this time!!! Weighing in at 4.5 pounds!!!!

NorfolkTurkey · 07/06/2004 02:28

Great news Quackers! Porking up nicely! ;o

Not long got back from the hospital. Mollie is now 4 pounds one ounce! Changed her nappy and as she is on more formula then breast (boobs have gone into a decline - long story ) and lets just say she was very windy and we almost had to evacuate the room! I'll need a gasmask next time!

serenequeen · 07/06/2004 09:15

that is excellent news, nt! amd quackers

agree with everyone - sc, having a poo while you are giving birth will be so absolutely the least of your worries!

bet she is freaked out now, ladies? i mean how bad can it be if you don't care about having a while you do it?!

serenequeen · 07/06/2004 09:15

can't believe i'm 32 wks tomorrow!

Toothache · 07/06/2004 12:07

4.5lbs Quacks! Gonna be a 9lb-er??

NT - That's wonderful news. I too love hearing your updates.... especially the really happy ones.

Serenaqueen - ROFL! That's so true isn't it!

sweetkitty · 07/06/2004 13:08

Just reading this and getting very afraid now. I'm not that bothered about pooing TBH but I don't want to be out of it. I want to be fully functional and aware of everything around me. I'm a bit of a control freak really but I want to enjoy one of the best days of my life.

I read in a magazine you should start RLT at 32 weeks biulding it up gradually.

littlerach · 07/06/2004 13:24

Have had a horrid night; baby kept kicking my side, felt like it was my hip bone, if I could still find it! Then it went on to my bladder!

NT, so nice to hear all your news, any idea when she will come home?

14 more days to work - hurrah!!!
