Morning All Glad to hear everyone is doing well.

33 + 4 today - My baby too is very very active - as soon as i lie on my left hand side he/she goes absolutely mad - DP thinks i'm probably squashing him - got an almighty kick yesterday whilst lying on the sofa, it actually made me gasp - DP went into panic mode, bless

Courier tried to deliver our cot and nursery furniture yesterday but of course i was at work so couldn't be signed for - now they've taken it back to the depot - ARRRGGGGGGG - I am so looking forward to getting everything up and in place.

Am too starting to find it uncomfortable sleeping - am OK for the first few hours but then hips start to ache from lying on side so much - oh well, only 45 more days til due date and 21 working days left.
Getting nervous now - EEEEKKKKKKKKKKK

carwillin · 31/05/2004 15:51

Dinosaur - Thank you very much for the article it was really interesting reading.

I'm now 33+3 and all is well although the baby is lying transverse across my belly which has given me a really odd shape and can be very painful when baby is moving around. Is there still time for the baby to turn or should it have already turned by now? (sorry - neurotic first timer).

I have been doing all the things it says in the books, lying on left side, making sure my knees are lower than my hips (which is not helping my cankles) and leaning over the gym ball - any more suggestions or should I not be worrying just yet??

Hope everyone else is well and coping with the heat

Quackers · 31/05/2004 22:55

It's lovely to hear from you all!!! Everyone has posted!!!
Where do I start! Littlerach - we just went accross to see some family and get some days out done. We went to Chester Zoo on Sunday - it was very hot and I really struggled to get round. It was a rip off BTW, won;t be going there in a hurry! Got a great cheap nursing chair nd footrest from Ikea though, so delighted with that!
Jems, I get the achy hip thing too, it;s so annoying isn;t it! I have to turn over in bed every hour or it just is too uncomfortable! Hope you get your nursery stuff then and get it put up! It's exciting seeing it all coming together! I'm just as excited as the first time!
Toothache/Carwillin, both of you with a transverse then! You've got loads of time for them to turn! Try scrubbing floors or less energetic, sitting on a kitchen chair backwards while you watch telly.
Doc said baby is still head down at the moment and I could defo feel a foot pressing up towards me in the bath last night - it was so tiny, wasn't sure if it was a knee or foot, but it is a foot - bless!

NorfolkTurkey · 01/06/2004 02:26

Hello Everyone!

Sorry I haven't posted - things are manic! Mollie is doing well although they had to suspend her feeds for a couple of days this week as she had a soft but distended tum. An x-ray was done which was clear, which was a relief although I wasn't too worried as she was still poo-ing for england. It seemed that she had a windy tum, but as she was so premature the hospital had to be cautious. If they carried on feeding her they could have done her gut some serious harm.

Went in this morning and she was off the drip that they had put her on whilst she was off milk - thank god. Got a problem though - as she was getting really stressed at the drip, a couple of days ago we gave her a tiny dummy to help sooth her. Mollie now wants the dummy (but only in the evening!?)- amazing how quickly they learn! I had previously been putting her to the breast which she had done really well at so maybe that had something to do with it? Anyway (am tired hence rambling) I don't strictly have a problem with dummies but I don't want her taking it for granted - does that make sense? I know she's not having it 24 hrs but it seems to have become a necessity in the evening.

I hope that the problem with her tum is a minor setback as she was doing so well. It's just so frustrating as you don't know what caused it. I just want her home! On the weight front she has put on a full pound so my little porker is now 3 pounds and 10 onces (she has also grown 3cm)! She looks so edible She also had her hearing test the other day which she passed. Another hurdle covered as alot of prem babies do lose some hearing. She can hear all the rubbish mummy and daddy say to her

I'm glad everyone else is doing well. Jems, I know its probably too late but I got one of those long nursing pillows which was fantastic. When I was in hospital I wrapped myself around it (as had no DH!) and it helped my hips immensley and I got a good nights sleep. Its also a good back support and will help to support baby when breastfeeding!

Anyway, must go to bed and do what babies do - well just the snoozing part

hermykne · 01/06/2004 10:43

hi everyone, norfolk turkey i am so glad she is putting on weight and getting stronger. the little mite.
i am now 32 wks, got hit with neighbours football yesterday whilst dosing in the garden - wrote a thread about it!, i got such a fright, crying etc etc, but everything was fine. my poor neighbour really paniced, but i feel sorry for her little boy, he probably got a lashing.

otherwise, plenty of action in the bump, some days feel wrecked others i can keep going esp.if dd is up like today from 6! how will i breastfeed with her runnning around at that hour - must check out other mners and how they did it with two under 2!

littlerach · 01/06/2004 10:56

Good to hear from you, NT, she seems to be doing so well. When will she be able to come home?
I seem to have this pattern of falling asleep easily, then waking about 2am and not getting back to sleep until 5am. Fine as long as DD sleeps til 7!! Getting me in practice I guess!!
Saw consultant yesterday, he is happy for me to go to local community hospital if this one is no earlier than DD, rather than trying to get to big one! They prefer to transport me if necessary than for me to drive, or DH to drive. He did say the odds on db being early are higher, we shall see!
Baby head down, quite low, bum on my left, feet on my right!! Hence the pain I have on my right!!

Toothache · 01/06/2004 11:52

Yup Quacks - The midwife confirmed yesterday that baby is lying transverse with it's head just above my left hip bone!! OUCH!! Floor scrubbing it is then.

NorfolkTurkey - Fantastic to hear a happy update and only a tiny setback. Mollie is doing so well, I hope she's home soon.

SpringChicken · 01/06/2004 12:42

Great to hear from you NT So glad to hear Mollie is doing well. Hopefully not too long until she is allowed home.

Nursery furniture being re-delivered today - have asked for it to be left with a neighbour as i am at work - bet they don't and i end up having to go and collect it - bloody useless!!
Got lists coming out of my ears now - one list for what we've got for the baby so far - one list for what we still need to get for the baby - one list for my hospital bag - one list for baby hospital bag - lists lists lists - I'm turning into my mum

Toothache · 01/06/2004 12:55

SC - No, you're turning into A Mum!! We all succumb in the end....

serenequeen · 01/06/2004 13:09

hello everyone

good to hear all the news. nt, thanks for the update, little mollie is certainly a fighter!

i'm 31wks today - starting to think more about the birth. unfortunately we have a number of stressful situations going on atm - can't wait for mat leave!

madgirl · 01/06/2004 14:48

thanks for posting NT so relieved to hear Mollie is doing well aside from tummy. make sure you get lots of sleep to keep your own energy levels up. SC can majorly sympathise with you re delivery. i nearly had an early stroke a couple of weeks ago with dhl not picking up and delivering back my pushchair which i sent away for servicing. just had an ante natal with my GP - baby lying head down (v well behaved!) and fhb still 130- def another boy!! toothache i've forgotten who you used to be?! doctor also said she thinks this is a 9lb er gulp! i'm only 5'2"

serenequeen · 01/06/2004 14:56

hi everyone

meant to say earlier that there's no need to worry about foetal position until about 34 wks at the earliest and then there are optimal foetal positioning exercises that you can do.

madgirl, as far as i understand it, it is extremely difficult for drs/midwives to estimate the weight of a baby from an external view, even scans are not v. reliable for this. what was the birth weight of your first one?

carwillin · 01/06/2004 18:06

Nice to see everyone is about! Getting really jealous of the 'due in June' thread, I feel really big and cumbersome and have 4 weeks left at work yet

Norfolk Turkey - Glad to hear Mollie is doing well, lets hope you can take her home soon.

Has everyone packed their labour bags just in case yet or am I the only one?? As I work away a lot my dh insisted at 30 weeks it has to be in the back of the car ready

SpringChicken · 01/06/2004 18:10

Hi Carwillin. I've still got 4 weeks left at work too starting to wonder whether working until 38 was such a bright idea.

Hospital bags aren't packed but have pretty much everything i need laid out in the spare room - the stupid thing is, i haven't actually got a bag to put all the stuff in - how ridiculous!

carwillin · 01/06/2004 18:44

Hello SpringChicken - I know exactly what you mean I had all good intentions at the start about working up until 38 weeks, eating right and getting lots of exercise but that all seems to have gone to pot and I could do with a week in bed

Although being a consultant, I'm booked right up to the last day - ho hum at least I might have 2 weeks to myself unless baby has other ideas

littlerach · 01/06/2004 21:57

3 wks left!!! Finishing at 34 wks, felt it best to!! Packing my bag at weekend, as I never managed it last time, and DH had to do it whilst I was in the hospital!! Never again!!! He brought my best towels and pj's, no glasses or pants!!! Bless him!

sweetkitty · 01/06/2004 22:13

Glad to hear Mollie is doing well NT.

I'm due 4th Aug so hovering about here just in case. toothache/m2t your 2 days behind me due date wise aren't you. My midwife said start worrying about the position at 38 weeks!

I've got another 6 weeks at work finishing at 36 and a half weeks, gives me a bit of time before bubs arrives but I hope she's a wee bit early. Works OK its the commuting thats the hard part. Just had a promotion interview today which was stressful I thought I would be winding down by now no such luck.

Quackers · 02/06/2004 00:35

It's so great to hear from you all!!! This is the final furlong for us lot now!

Madgirl - NO PROBS!! It's called POANG. It's £65 and the footrest to match is £25. It comes in 3 colours of wood, so you should get one to match and loads of different covers that are washable. It is exceptionally comfy and rocks. Will look great in bedroom or living room after. I just remember sitting on an awful wicker chair in the middle of the night last time and crying cos I was so uncomfy. I was dtermined to have a chair this time but refuse to pay £350!
Jems, you never beleive how much stuff you need, I feel much less organised this time and less to buy, but will make a huge effort this week! Also, occured to me today that I need to think about a birth plan. Some people say they are a waste of time but I really think they are useful. I didn't need mine last time really except for my notes on episiotomy and what if this and what if that.

Quackers · 02/06/2004 00:36

BTW, norfolk!!! Great to hear from you. Don;t worry about the dummy too much. She obviously loves it comforting her. She sounds like she's coming on a treat!

SpringChicken · 02/06/2004 11:42

Good Luck Boggy - not long to go now

Got a sudden rush of cleaning last night so the nursery got a good going over, so did the bathroom, landing, stairs and kitchen - all this afternoon doing 2 loads of washing up and cooking dinner - Feeling it wasn't such a great idea today, cos i'm knackered.
Also, got my bag packed - only have a few more bits to go in - going to buy a new toothbrush because i know i will forget that, need a dressing gown and underwear but that's about it.

How organised do i feel now?

Quackers · 02/06/2004 11:55

Well done Jems! You just never know when baby will want to make an appearance. One less thing to worry about if your bag is packed then!!
Thanks Boggy!! Counting down now then!

OP posts:
Toothache · 02/06/2004 16:07

SK - Unfortunately 38 wks is a bit late to worry about the position and definitely too late to try to turn the baby, I think if the baby was transverse they would section you at 38wks... and perhaps the same if the baby was breech too.

DS turned at 34wks and that was very awkward and painful . Then he was born at 39wks.

At least earlier on you can assume positions (albeit unattractive ones!) that assist the baby to turn head down all by itself. I don't fancy external version either..... OUCH!!

I really hope a make it onto this thread you guys. DH has predicted that I will give birth on 25th July. I hope he's right!!!

NorfolkTurkey · 06/06/2004 02:55

There was a great bit in the Mumsnet 'Mums on Pregnancy' book. I've loaned it to my friend - I think it was what to pack in your hospital bag. One woman had a bottle of famous grouse whiskey and nothing else. Bought a smile to my face!
