anyone get headaches or sinitus a bit more than usual?

littlerach · 21/05/2004 13:24

Hi Hermykne, I have a stuffier nose than before, and it still bleeds a fair amount.

What do you do about your twitchy legs? I get them too, and get so cross!!!

hermykne · 21/05/2004 23:43

littlerach i have just posted on the restless leg thread re those legs, bar cutting them off with anger at night, i take a banana, no caffeine after 6 (i try!) and wear support socks from my 1st preg that i got in hospital after the c/s, they do help.

littlerach · 22/05/2004 10:55

Thanks, Hermykne, will try the banana!!

My SIL had her baby last night, waters broke at 3.30 am, had baby at 7.30 pm, weighed just over 8lbs and is a boy, name of Devon. They live in California but are from Devon, hence the name. DH is so excited, as he is now an uncle!!!

hermykne · 22/05/2004 22:48

LITTLE RACH
devon is a great name for a californa dude!
my BIL had a baby in jan and lives in SF and called him Akash! it means gateway to heaven/paradise.

Morning all - this thread is dying a bit of a death isn't it!

Hope everyone is doing OK - Quacks, how are you feeling lately?

Had midwife appt this morning - 32+3 - baby has moved - YIPPEEEEEE - Is now head down.
Midwife said baby is bigger than average and is likely to be a 9lb'er - oohhhhh the pain........

Toothache · 23/05/2004 13:20

Hi SC - Glad to hear your babs has behaved itself and turned around. 9lb! Oooooh what a whopper.

That might mean you go a week or 2 early.

I have a MW appointment next Wednesday and I'm hoping they tell me my baby is behaving too. It was frank breech at my 28wk appointment. Ds turned at 34wks, so it took hours and was incredibly painful!

Hi Jems! Wow that's big! However m/w told me DD was about 7.5-8 pounds and she was actually 5 pounds when she came out, you never know! I'm going really great thank you. Different woman! Obviously have my hormonal episodes as normal but I feel great. Now 30 weeks and think I have a bladder infection. Tried to get to Doc;s but my car broke down and it;s too far to walk now I'm bigger and have backache etc... Ah well, will stay at home with DD and blow bubbles in the garden I think and eat a couple of choc ices!!!

Dinosaur - can I have a copy too please. I want to spend as little time as possible in hospital but have been told that 1st timers should stay until feeding has been established. What does everyone else think?

At 32+2 weeks baby is also head down but is still moving a lot and there doesn't feel as though there is enough room anymore, surely this bump can't get any bigger I've already put on two and a half stone and it looks like it's all bump.

Hope everyone else is doing OK - for 1st timers are you scared or excited? I have moments of both when I can be giddy with excitement and then I get really worried

Freddiecat · 24/05/2004 17:25

Well I stayed in hospital 3 nights with DS because I thought it would help establish feeding but I don't think it helped. To be fair to them the hospital was really busy as there were a record number of babies born the same day as DS. The MW were great and insisted I buzzed every time I was going to feed so someone could help me. However I saw a different MW every time (understandable) and all of them suggested a different technique which wasn't very helpful. The good thing was that they had a full-time breastfeeding counsellor MW at the hospital who came and gave me loads of help and suggested I used a nipple shield - but obvuously she wasn't there round the clock.

I stopped breastfeeding at 10 days because DS just "wouldn't" feed - but also because I got myself in such a tis I forgot how much help was available.

What I am intending to do this time is this:
Stay in hospital a shorter time (still a day or two).

Prime the MW to remind me to feed the baby frequently after the birth (he was drowsy and I forgot he might need feeding - hormones everywhere)

Really concentrate on latching on.

Take Lanolin cream into hospital with me (either Lansinoh or PureLan - Lloyds Pharmacies definitely do one of them). Lanolin is the best for easing sore nipples and does not need to be washed off before feeds. Seriously would recommend buying some before you have the baby.

When I get home if I have problems I can go back to the hospital during the day and the BF counsellor will help me. This is the bit I forgot before and I think could have enabled me o BF properly.

I have also bought a BF pillow (lozenge shaped bean bag) as one of the things that used to get to me last time was arranging all the cushions.

Also - if you need a drip after the birth (antibiotics or whatever) try to get them to inject instead or not to put the drip in the back of your hand as it makes picking up your baby really hard.

I'm going to be 34 weeks tomorrow and for some reason feel 10 times better than I did a few weeks ago. Tons of energy and no aches at all. Might be because I am the random pregnant weight loss woman. I now weigh 5lbs heavier than I did a year ago (and I didn't really slim down before getting pregnant). It's mad because most of that must be the baby. I am eating loads as well. So for you first timers - you won't neccessarily get bigger with every pregnancy - I think it's running round after a toddler that does it!

Thanks FreddieCat that is good advice, the BF counsellor from the NCT is coming to our next ante natal class so hopefully she'll have some good advice aswell.

Dinosaur - Just contacted you, thank you.

Does anyone else suffer from swollen ankles, they seem to have got worse now that the weather has warmed up. I have been putting my feet up as much as possible and drinking lots of water but I've stilll got cankles

Me too Carwillin - My ankles (Or canckles as DP calls them) are huge.

You litterally cannot see where my leg ends and my foot begins, they just seem to run into one another - MIL told me i must rest my feet higher than my heart to take the swelling away, although i have been doing this for at least 2 hours every night (for the last 2 nights ) and it doesn't make much difference.

I put my feet in the foot spa last night with freezing cold water - it was heaven - then got DP to rub some foot soother into my feet (He didn't look best pleased when i asked).

Hope they go away soon though - they look like i've been bashed up with a sledge hammer
Dino - i have contacted you too.

SpringChicken · 24/05/2004 19:28

Secur The last i heard from here was what she posted here a few days ago - she wasn't a prolific posted before hand so haven't really thoguht much of not hearing from her since, although given the circumstances, probably should have

Hope everything is OK - NT, where are you?

bzhmum · 30/05/2004 18:04

yes, thanks v much, dinosaur
I have printed it off and will be taking it home with me on sunday when I fly back to the UK in preparation for the birth.
Have knitted a jumper for the baby!!! (1st time ever that I managed to finish anything, and 1st time knitting since I was 12 yrs old) but still having trouble sewing all the bits together! my mum will have to take over, I think.
Still, they say that a few mistakes/dropped stitches add to the charm of a hand-knitted garment
going for my 3rd trimester ultrasound tomorrow, looking forward to that.
32.5 weeks now, baby is head down and ready for take-off

Quackers · 30/05/2004 22:59

Hiya, been away so that's why haven;t posted for a while!
Norfolk, if you can manage a short post, we'd all love to hear from you. Hope you are ok. xxxx
Getting so uncomfortable now. Baby is moving so much I jumped out of my skin last night, it was a bit sore. Don;t remember DD being so athletic so it must be a boy!!! Won;t be long and we'll know what we're all having!

Hi, Quacks, been anywhere nice?
Baby moves all the time now; did a car boot at the weekend, and friend could see it moving under top!!
Should be moving end of June - am I mad?
Off to see consultant today as DD was early.

Helsbels · 31/05/2004 11:44

Hi all
hope everyone is well - not been on here for a while! Quacks - glad to read your post - my baby is very active too and is v uncomfortable - it made me sick yesterday. However, I don't remember DS being like this so it must be a girl!!! Am 33 weeks today and have only gained a total of 10 pounds. Have been losing weight since 20 week scan as I can't face food! Midwife is not worried as I was overweight to start with and the baby is a 'normal' size. Have I missed anything exciting?

Toothache · 31/05/2004 11:59

Hi Everyone - 29+5 today! Baby's movements are less than ds's were, but definitely more painful! I let out a yelp at my desk at work yesterday.... the project manager thought my waters had broken, I like to keep them on their toes.

I have a feeling the baby is lying transverse now, which means both hips are getting a right pummelling! S'pose it's progress though, let's hope it's on it's way to being head down. I have my 30wk antenatal appointment this afternoon so will find out then.

I am having terrible trouble sleeping. I am tired at about 9pm, but by 10.30pm I'm wide awake, baby is kicking and the 'restless leg syndrome' is in full flow. Plus the heartburn when I lie down is excrutiating! I'm just glad though that all the complaints I have now are 'normal' pregnancy ones and nothing serious.

Hopefully only 8wks to go.

Yes Littlerach - Yes you are mad. We moved into our house when I was 28wks pg with ds. It was such a stressful time, but a wonderful opportunity to indulge me ever growing nesting instinct!! Plus, with getting the house ready the last few weeks didn't seem to drag at all.

Norfolkturkey - I second what Quacks said, I hope you and dd are both well.
