Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Thanks Chickpea. Having just been told (again) by someone 'oh you are brave having a homebirth' I was fit to scream. I said that I thought it gfar braver to go into hospital as I hate the place etc etc... it makes such a difference having someone onside . Now, I can't believe I'm asking this question seeing as this is my third baby, but what is 'leaking waters' like? I had quiet bad pains on and off all night, and today I have noticed (sorry everyone) an ever increasing damp patch in my undies. There is no colour and no smell at all, which makes me sure it's not a touch of stress incontinence. And it's constant during the day as it is still wet now (God I'm cringing as I type this!!!) I had them broken with my first and they went in the birthing pool with my second so I really have nothing to compare it to! Plus it's been 7 and a half years since I last did this. Has anyone else had this? I'm not panicking about it, and I'm in no hurry to go to hospital as I don't want the whole monitoring/overnight stay thing seeing as I'm booked for a homebirth. Anyways, what do you all think?

Quackers · 30/06/2004 19:03

Good luck Jems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marmalade sun, my baby is posterior too, I'm about 36 weeks. REALLY hoping it will move, but every time I get a scan or they feel my tummy, it;s still posterior. I'll get bouncing too then!

Good luck springchicken can't wait to hear what you have (apart from a baby that is).

toothache and I are hoping we join the July babies thread wishful thinking on my part, we are having a race.

I would love to have a homebirth but being my first I'm a bit scared of the unknown plus we live in a small flat (or apartment ).

Lupe · 30/06/2004 19:55

Good to meet a fellow due date-r bzhmum! I thought at the beginning that my 'real' due date would be around 29/7 but all my measurements since 2nd scan seem to confirm 23ish as realistic. Mine was 3/5 engaged at last antenatal - how's yours doing?

Chickpea - I've bought some Bambino Mio nappies - they're prefold ones, much cheaper than than preshaped ones and have really cute covers! I did consider terries too, but they just seemed a bit bulky and cos I'm a bit cackhanded I could see it taking me ages to learn how to fold them properly. My main reasons for reusables were cost and disposal - I live in a flat and dustbin space is always short as it is - couldn't face having overflowing bins of poo!

Quackers - let me know if you have any luck moving yours. I'm keeping as upright as possible but am not sure about the all fours stuff (some people recommend it) because I've got an anterior placenta and I read somewhere that this position might not be a good idea. Ever feel like you're getting too much information....

Freddiecat · 01/07/2004 01:50

Toothache I am here! JUst been too busy with book club stuff to post much here and the discussion seems to move so fast I loose track!

Actually due on 1st July (so am allowed in this thread). DR has decided to give me a sweep on my due date - and DS arrived the day after my sweep last time (althogh 10 days over). I might get it changed to Friday tho so if it does work I deliver at the weekend which is more convenient for people looking after DS.

So it might be 2nd or 3rd July!

popsycal · 02/07/2004 20:05

psssst
freddiecat is inb labour as we speak!!!

littlerach · 02/07/2004 21:38

Is she really?

If so, good luck!!!!!

popsycal · 02/07/2004 22:03

yes she is!

carwillin · 03/07/2004 00:09

I can't believe it's started

It just means we're next - my DH has been away all weekend and I've been so worried I thought I might send myself into labour. Luckily he's due back in an hour and then I can get some sleep.

Anyone else with twinges?

MarmaladeSun · 03/07/2004 05:53

Hi all. Well it's 2.50 on Monday morning and I had to get up as I woken by pains about an hour ago. They've been coming about every ten minutes so far, and were bad enough to make me have to breathe through them. Not too much tightening though, just a cramping pain in the end of my back which builds up and then moves to the front under my bump, then goes. I tried not to wake DH, but it's hard when you're in pain and he's snoring, blissfully unaware!!! LOL. He's gone back to sleep and I'm downstairs and trying to take my mind off it. I know if I go back to bed and it eases off I'll be disappointed, as I've been getting twinges now for days, although none as strong. Wish this baby would make up her mind! Well, best try and get some sleep. I'll keep you posted.

carwillin · 03/07/2004 10:30

Are you up yet MarmaladeSun? What's the latest?

Toothache · 03/07/2004 10:43

OH WOW!! The July thread is kicking off! Can't believe it.
Popsycal - Any updates on Freddiecat???
Marmladesun - GOOD LUCK! I hope things didn't just stop for you.
Can't wait to hear.

Strangely enough I've been having rather nasty period pains since last night. And this morning I'm sitting at my desk thinking that I might have to take a painkiller, they really are that bad! It's too early for my though, I'm not due for another month..... so I'm hoping it's just my cervix dilated a couple of centimetres before the real thing in 2 or 3 wks time.

Oh and it's my last day at work tomorrow!!!!

MarmaladeSun · 03/07/2004 13:46

Hi all again. Still here and feeling mighty off! I eventually went back to bed as I was shattered, and lo and behold when I woke up the pains had stopped. However, I did lay there thinking I was going to throw up, and when I went to the loo I had a bout of diaorrhea...quiet a common prelude to labour apparently and something I had with both of my previous babes. Also significant as I have been really constipated due to the iron tablets I'm on. Had a couple of twinges today but feeling strangely full of energy despite the sleepless night. Got an appointment with the mw tomorrow, so we'll see what she says and in the meantime I'll keep you posted. Toothache, I really think that's what's happening with me too...(trying to convince myself anyway) any action now is less to happen on D Day. Good luck everyone.

Toothache · 03/07/2004 13:50

Sounds very much like the prelude to labour Marmaladesun. Even the bout of energy!

Chickpea - I'm due on August 6th by the way. Like Sweetkitty said we are hoping to sneak in at the end of July.

bzhmum · 03/07/2004 17:33

Lupe, not sure what is meant by "3/5 engaged" - my midwife doesn't speak in those terms - she just said it felt lower when I saw her last.
will be having 1 more scan to check the baby's in the right position before the birth, but don't know when yet.
It was moving around loads last night, and also I've begun to feel a bit nauseous these last few days - a bit like morning sickness again, probable because everything's getting more and more squashed inside...?
I am considering using real nappies too - mainly 'cos it's cheaper, but also for environmental reasons.
But I'm putting off buying them until I know for sure where I'll be living (long story)
If we live in end up a flat with limited drying space, it might all be too much - but am definitely keen to try real nappies. After all, as my mum keeps reminding me, she managed fine with terries and a twin tub!

Lupe · 03/07/2004 17:59

bzh, think 3/5 just means 'lower than when I saw you last' too!

Lucky you having another scan - I'd love to see mine again now she's all grown up! (last scan at 21 weeks).

Moving round loads too, with knobbly bits sticking out all over the place. Very peculiar and DH finds it quite scary!

bzhmum · 03/07/2004 19:03

'knobbly bits' is an apt description for my belly too - I like it though, because it shows me that he/she's having some fun in there, at least!

SpringChicken · 03/07/2004 21:32

Quick post - just at my mum's.

Can't believe it's all started - hurry up and post Frddiecat Cannot wait to hear yhour announcement.

First day at being a lady of leisure - quite enjoyed it really, although will be bored sensless if this baby is late

Anyway, must dash - keep up the labour vibes everyone.

littlerach · 03/07/2004 22:14

Hi, SC, glad you can still get on.

Did anyone know that you can get varicose veins down there? I had a huge worry yesterday, as I felt a lump when I went to the loo, managed to see a dr and it is a varicose vein - I had awful thoughts of cancer etc. Really, they should mention this in books, or am I just thick?!

Quackers · 03/07/2004 23:59

Hiya! Littlerach - it;s piles!!!!! URGH, I know, I get the odd one too. They seem to come and go. I remember thought they went straight away after the birth. There's nothing we don;t have to put up with!!!
Freddiecat. hope things have shifted up a gear for you!!

OP posts:
littlerach · 04/07/2004 11:02

No, no, not on my bum, by my bits!!!!! Or is that too much info!!!!!

How have you been?

Toothache · 04/07/2004 11:04

Littlerach (not stalking you ....honest!) - I didn't know you could get them there either! Must have given you a fright. Mind you, it's a looooooong time since anyone looked down there so maybe I do have some!

Quackers · 04/07/2004 15:03

OMG, sorry!! Didn't realise you meant there! Gosh, that's a new one, how annoying for you. I bet they do go though. Is the head engaged? It must be pressure from the head then. Got my last scan later today. Have been nesting, even at 36 weeks.

OP posts:
Toothache · 04/07/2004 15:04

Quacks - MY nesting instinct has been in overdirve for a couple of weeks now.... I even polished the toaster the other day! DH thinks I've gone mad.

Lupe · 04/07/2004 16:33

I ironed the bloody teatowels the other day! (if you knew me you would know how unlikely this is...)

Mind you, I know someone who irons her g-strings and tights and has 'show towels' (not for use, even by guests!!!!) and she's not even pregnant!
