Hello all!! Hope you find me!!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Toothache · 28/06/2004 12:58

How exciting SC!

Marmaladesun - I told my friend that story on the phone last night, hope you don't mind! It just made me laugh. DH had to inform me afterwards that I had pooed too, whilst up on all fours.

Good luck littlerach.

Quacks - I know what you mean about bein impatient. I have snapped at ds so many times in the past fews weeks, then been riddled with guilt and spen 10 minutes telling him how silly Mummy can be sometimes.

Celou · 28/06/2004 17:10

If it happen to me I'd rather not know. I'm hoping to use a birthing pool as well so you really worried me marmaladesun!!
I wish they didn't float, at least they would just sit at the bottom, no one would realize a part from the one who has to clean it!!!
By the way, does the midwife has to remove it?

Lupe · 28/06/2004 17:43

Anyone managed to get their baby in a good position by using beanbags, crawling round the floor etc?

Just been to my check up and after weeks of her lying in a nice anterior position it seems she's decided to go posterior at 36 weeks (I'm sure her moving explains the very painful sensation I had a few nights ago of a small animal burrowing around inside me!). It doesn't seem fair because I spend a lot of the day sitting nice and upright - might as well have slouched on the sofa instead!

Now I'm a bit worried cos I know posterior presentations mean you're more likely to have a long and painful labour and I've been fairly laid back about the whole thing so far .

Anyone got any tips - or indeed experience of having a baby in this position? And what's the chances of her just moving back again anyway?

MarmaladeSun · 28/06/2004 19:33

ROFLMAO....imagine if it sank to the bottom of the ppol, and you happened to change position and crawled in it???? Eeeuugghhhhh!!!! Yes Celou, the midwife clears it away and it's something they see with the majority of births so don't worry about it at all.
Toothache, no of course I don't mind you telling the story. When all's said and done it IS a humorous thing we go to to have our babes isn't it? Glad I was able to make someone smile .
Lupe, my first labour was a posterior one. I would be lying if I said it wasn't painful and long, but I've also heard others having short easy posterior labours so just go into it with an open mind and if you need pain relief take it. That's what it's there for. I read somewhere that leaning forward encourages the baby into the right position, whereas any reclining has the opposite effect. Have you tried a gym ball? It is SO comfy just hugging it whilst watching telly etc and I would imagine that it would make it easier during the birth if you have a 'back labour' as it takes the pressure off the back.

MarmaladeSun · 28/06/2004 19:37

Spring Chicken. I think I have your period type pains! I had the mw out today (routine appt) and she asked if I had made an appt for next week with the other mw and I said not yet, I would do it when she had gone, and she said 'that's if you need it'!!! When pushed she wouldn't say anymore though! I've been preettttty uncomfortable for the last 4ish hours, with not only the period type pains but also pains in my thighs and back, and tightenings. No doubt they will disappear again tho. Oh God, it's footie tomorrow night. He'll never forgive me! LOL.

lealea · 28/06/2004 23:59

Not due until the 17th, I get tightenings and she has been hyperactive all day, feel like a punch bag. 2 days left in work then I can nest and get the house sorted. Have I left it all a bit late?

Lupe · 29/06/2004 13:16

Thanks for the tips, Marmaladesun. I'm certainly trying to keep an open mind (for that reason I'm not going to ask you how long and how painful !). And, anyway, I might be worrying too soon at 36 weeks. I hope...

Guess the gym ball's another thing I might have to add the endless shopping list - it already feels like it's never ending and I really don't think I've gone over the top.

I have tried going on all fours with a nice comfy pile of cushions and am not reclining at all. I'm also doing some straight talking to the bump, trying to explain that she's only making it harder for both of us!

btw, Marmaladesun - when did yours go into a posterior position?

MarmaladeSun · 29/06/2004 15:02

Hi Lupe. To be honest I can't really remember when she went into the posterior position. I don't think I was told until I was in labour as I can't remember worrying about it beforehand. There were other reasons why the labour was so protracted though; I hate hospitals so was really tense and anxious which obviously doesn't help. I also had a terrible sickness problem i.e I vomited with every contraction and they didn't/wouldn't give me an anti sickness jab (can't remember why). Also I had a real *** of a midwife in the hospital who kept telling me to stop making a fuss!!!!! (they're not all like that believe me. She is the only one I have ever come across who wasn't lovely). Lupe, yes they ARE more painful BUT they're not unbearable. Most of the pain is in your back and if you have strategies to deal with it you'll be fine. Have someone on hand to administer pressure to the back and massage (if you can bear to be touched) and I would really urge you to try a birthing ball. I have really bad backache with this pregnancy and it's the only thing that gives me relief. There is a website that gives all the things to do to encourage the baby to turn and when I find it I'll post on here to let you know what it is ok? Take care.

MarmaladeSun · 29/06/2004 15:16

Lupe, I have found the website I was on about. It's www.homebirth.org.uk If you go to the contents list and then the section on positions you'll find it. It's a really useful site, even if you're planning a hospital birth. Hope it helps.

SpringChicken · 29/06/2004 15:42

MarmaladeSun - my midwife said the same to me when i saw her 10 days ago - we made our next appt for 2 weeks time and she said "That's if you still need a midwife by then" But i'm still here with no baby yet.

Think i may have had the nesting surge kick in yesterday - completely blitzed the house, putting things up in the loft - re-arranged nursery - sterilized bottles - 4 machine loads of washing - hooving. I was on a complete roll, kept trying to think of what to do next

Lupe · 29/06/2004 16:22

thanks for the website etc Marmaladesun - hope you get a nicer midwife this time (this happened to someone at my antenatal class and she said if she gets another duff one this time she's going to ask to change!)

MarmaladeSun · 29/06/2004 17:07

Hi Spring Chicken. Only one more day to go eh? Looking forward to it? I'm so glad I'm not at work as I feel really lousy today; just sleeping on the settee most of the day. I have such a lot of pain in my thighs; feels like I have run a marathon! Any more aches and pains for you? Will you still be on line at home by the way?
Lupe, that midwife was with my first baby, but the one I had with my second was a star...she was so lovely I sent a bouquet of flowers up to the hospital for her afterwards; she made all the difference. This time around I have got to know my midwife pretty well as I am having a home birth so apart from having 2 appointments with the doc I have dealt with the mw only. I met the second one yesterday (there are likely to be 2 mw there)...not so keen as she wasn't as friendly as the regular one. I hope I don't go over my dates as my mw goes on holiday the week after my due date! Eeuugghhh...I feel SO crap today. I wish this little one would hurry up.

SpringChicken · 30/06/2004 11:25

Well - today is the day ladies Last day at work and i actually feel quite sad .

Was sure the baby was on the way last night - throughout the whole second half of the football i was getting horrid achey pains in my lower tummy and in my back - then i would get the odd wave of actually pain.
Didn't utter a word as the footie was on and i thought DP might maul me if i dared to speak - pains lasted about an hour and a half and then just vanished...........what is this baby playing at.

Not sure i will get on much today but i hope everyone really enjoys their last few weeks of being pregnant - i will try and post if i can but without having internet access at home, makes it a bit difficult.

So long.......... Sc x

Toothache · 30/06/2004 11:34

SC - Yippeeeeee!

It sounds like your body is really getting things 'loosened' up down there for labour. Even if it doesn't mean labour is immenant it still means you body is doing a bit of the work already. I was 1-2cm dilated for a week before labour so I went into established labour very quickly (1-2hrs) when contractions finally started. So all these niggling pains you're getting are good news.
I'm so excited for you and can't wait for 3 wks to pass so I can start my "Get Labour Going Pronto!" plan.

MarmaladeSun · 30/06/2004 12:28

Hi all. Spring Chicken, I've been having the same type of pains too. After a day of feeling like poo, I woke in the early hours with really strong cramping pains in back and front, getting up and moving about didn't relieve them which made me think 'woohoo...here we go'. But, true to form it has died down a bit this morning. Toothache is right though, that even though we don't know it things are definately going on inside, and any work that is done now is less work when it all kicks off properly. Enjoy the time off, and if we don't hear from you then I really really wish you well and hope that everything goes brilliantly. Are you in touch with anyone from the boards who can keep us/you updated?

carwillin · 30/06/2004 12:34

Hello - my last day at work today aswell I feel like I could do with a rest now, but it'll be just my luck to go into labour tonight. Although baby's head is engaged there are no other signs which I thought there might be by now - just being a naive first timer!

Although it would be nice to hold off until after Tuesday as I'm booked in for what seems like a whole body waxing and a hair cut. I couldn't possibly give birth through as thicket

I cou;dn't see when you were due Toothache.

My midwife dropped round my homebirth kit on Wednesday. Ds,DD and I ahad fund with the entonox. I need to hire my TENS unit and I'm all set - well sort of. Still one more week at work!

MarmaladeSun - Glad to hear you're having yours at home. Having had my first at home and second in hospital (she was breech) I wouldn't do it any other way.

Is anyone considaring real nappies? Call me mad but I'm going for terries. They can't be that bad - can they? Apparently 4% of the content of landfill sites in this counrtry is disposable nappies and they take between 200 and 500 years to decompose! They now do really good liners which catch most of the poo and help avoid nappy rash and they are soooo much more economical in the long run. Some local authorities give you cash incentives to use them too. Have I convinced anyone?

SC - congratulations on finishing work - enjoy your time off!

CP

serenequeen · 30/06/2004 17:40
