Anyone else been measured for a nursing bra recently? I went to M&S yesterday and she reckoned I was going to need a 36G (I'm currently wearing about a 38D, I think)! I can't quite believe it so I'm going to get a second opinion... DH looked quite happy though .

I'm about 36 weeks now and am feeling lots of strong muscular movements that feel like she is shifting around loads and busting to get out - I thought they were supposed to calm down a bit by now! And my bump has dropped down quite a lot (but I've still got heartburn )

Had a tour of the delivery suite yesterday and tried out a few of the contraptions they've got up there - guess who fell off the birthing ball .

Freddiecat · 27/06/2004 13:27

I am fine thanks chickpea. Maternity leave started yesterday and I'm due in just over a week. Lots more heartburn and the baby is now so low. I am on the loo every 5 minutes and have a really small appetite.

Quite a few twinges and crampy pains and BH but my theory is that my body spends a couple of weeks in labour but I'm not aware of most of it IYSWIM.

Lupe coincidentally I got fitted for a nursing bra in M&S. Before with DS I wasn't fitted until after I'd had him and got two in Mothercare. I think they are a 36E but when I tried them on a week ago it was agony and I had to take them off. I am currently wearing a 38 D. The M&S woman has put me in a 34F but I'm not convinced. I think I might go somewhere else and buy a couple of sleep nursing bras (M&S don't do them) and then get measured again a week or two after the baby is born.

SpringChicken · 27/06/2004 13:34

Well i thought all the jumping up and down during the football yesterday would get something moving but no such luck.
37+3 now - i would love this baby to put in an appearance soon and i know i keep saying that i'm fed up and want this baby out, but i am not at the stage of pulling my hair out or anything yet!

Ate 2 fresh pineapples over the weekend as i thought that might get something going but absolutely zilcho - think i am just going to have to wait for this little one to come of his/her own accord

Stubborn, just like his/her mum

MarmaladeSun - we are due the same day - race ya.........

Lupe · 27/06/2004 13:43

thanks for the tip Freddiecat - I've got one nursing sleep bra already that's pretty big so maybe I'll get something else similar and wait and see what happens (I think M&S woman would have kept on going through the alphabet and was most disappointed the range stopped at G!)

serenequeen · 27/06/2004 13:51

when is everyone planning maternity leave? i was planning to go at 36 wks (10 days time) but tbh am feeling so rubbish that i'd like to quit at the end of this wk (35 wks). is that really weedy and pathetic?

MarmaladeSun · 27/06/2004 14:11

Hi Springchicken. Same day eh? Tee hee...should add a bit of fun to an otherwise reeeaaaallyy boring couple of weeks! I too have tried the pineapple route. Ate so much of it that the end of my tongue was sore. I didn't jump up and down at the footie either; spent most of it hugging my gym ball as on all fours seems to be the most comfie position at the mo. Poor hubby, having to look at my rear end waggling about (time was he'd enjoy that!) I have been taking raspberry leaf tea for the last week though; although not sure why as with my first baby I did the same and went 11 days over! Second one was bang on time so I'm hoping this one comes earlier. I'm getting SO fed up with the 'haven't you had it yet?' thing. Every morning at the school I get asked it at least half a dozen times; I don't mean to sound like a moany old nag but between that and the phone calls . Know what I'm really looking forward to? Painting my toenails!!!!

Toothache · 27/06/2004 14:22

lol @ marmaladesun! I've been on all fours on my gym ball too.... DH isn't enjoying the view much either!

Serenequeen - Not wimpish at all! I finish a week today and I'm not due until August 6th. I need/want some time before baby makes an appearance! With working fulltime I haven't had a chance to attend any antenatal classes or aquanatal aerobics. So I think if you don't feel up to it, then just stop work and enjoy the calm befor the storm.

littlerach · 27/06/2004 14:23

SQ, I have started mat leave this week at 34 wks, well this wk is annual leave, then mat leave really starts next wk. DD was prem, so I felt this was best!

Saw MW today, baby 3/5 in - does it have to be all in to be engaged?

Lupe · 27/06/2004 14:30

Serenequeen - I work from home at the moment as a translator and I'm winding down now at about 36 weeks. I think you should stop when you feel like it, if that's possible! I know people who wished they'd given up sooner in order to enjoy the last few weeks of 'freedom' and putting feet up, but didn't and baby arrived earlier so they didn't get any time off at all!

I think we can be guilty of pushing ourselves too hard and feeling that we must keep working as long as possible (obviously £££s come into it as well) but I think we underestimate the amount of rest that a heavily pregnant person needs.

Plus I often find the people who tell you all about the way they kept so bloody active right up to the end (older generation particularly guilty I'm afraid) turn out to be the ones who had complicated births, high blood pressure etc.

A few words of wisdom from the physio at my antenatal - 'sitting down is better than standing up and lying down is better than sitting down' 'as little ironing, hoovering, washing up as possible' 'no decorating up ladders'.

Put your feet up and enjoy!

Toothache · 27/06/2004 14:31

littlerach - With your second, third etc I don't think the head fully engages until labour... so 3/5 is probably really far for your 2nd. Oh I'm very optimistic that someone on the July thread is going to deliver in the next week..... I can feel it in ma waters....

MarmaladeSun · 27/06/2004 14:55

Hi again. Just read back through the board and just have to comment on some of the messages. Perineal massage: how the hell do you reach it when you have a medicine ball in your tum? I tried it laying down but couldn't reach, (and it felt FAR too self indulgent...LOL, then tried it standing with one leg on the bed, but it says to do it for 10 minutes twice a day; I'm lucky if I could keep my balance for 10 seconds! Not asking hubby either as soon enough there will be enough people being clinical around my nether regions!
Springchicken, just wanted to say, don't worry if the baby is likely to be a 9lber...my son was 9lb when he was born, and it was a wonderful birth. I DID need stitches, but it was nothing compared to the joy when he was born. It actually hurt less delivering him than my daughter, and she was a lb lighter. Your body will do the work, don't worry.
Sure there was something else I wanted to add, but my mind is like a sieve lately.

Lupe · 27/06/2004 15:03

LOL Marmaladesun - I thought it was just me that couldn't manage that one!

I reckon you either need extra long arms or a very small bump

SpringChicken · 27/06/2004 15:22

I finish work on Friday which will take me to 38 weeks. It was my plan to work solidly until the 38 week mark but everything started taking it's toll last week so for the last 10 days i have been working 6 hour days instead of the usual 8.5.

It's been nice working so late in one respect, that time seems to have just flown past but i just know i will leave work on Friday and then go into spontaneous labour about an hour after getting home That is so my luck!

MarmaladeSun - midwife did tell me that bigger babies were better in the fact that they virtually push themselves out as they are alot stronger whereas with smaller babies you are literally doing all the work.

sweetkitty · 27/06/2004 15:34

38G wow, you got me worried I was a 34C/D before I got pregnant now a 38DD. Was thinking I should get a few nursing bras soon.

I'm working to 36 and a half weeks, taking 2 weeks holiday then starting mat leave. My mum is horrified at me working this late as she stopped work at 6 months (as that was what you were told in those days) can't imagine not working for 3 months. Then again she is also horrified I am going back to work after the babies born, it's just a different generation though.

I think babies come when they are good and ready and theres nothing we can do to encourage them otherwise

littlerach · 27/06/2004 15:36

SC, that is what happened with DD, I finished work on the Sat and had niggles on the Mon, then had her on the Tues!!! So no, not much mat leave then!!!

I have just been begging at Tesco for fruit crates to pack books in, and the nice man took one look at my bump and got one of his lads to carry them all out to the car for me!! I did enjoy that!

SpringChicken · 27/06/2004 15:45

I agree SK or mine would have been here ages ago
Although i would love to DB to put in an appearance i'm so glad i'm not at that stage where i just can't cope anymore - I think i might end up murdering DP if i go overdue.
It is his fault i'm in this state afterall

Celou · 27/06/2004 16:01

I'm 37 weeks, and it's true that I'm noticing a lot of movement. I too was expecting baby to calm down towards the end but he/she seems so excited (a lot more muscles and fat I suppose).
I had a scan last week and it's lovely to see the baby at this stage of the pregnancy.

Celou · 27/06/2004 16:44

By the way girls, how active are you all?
Now that it's not that hot I find myself do loads of things, from cleaning to decorating.
Everyone tells me to slow down but all the things I do need doing. Now I've finished anyway, and I feel a lot better for it. A lot more organized.
Saying that, I still have to clean the inside of the windows and phone the window cleaner for the outside, hire a industrial carpet cleaner, and go to the hairdresser's. And clean the inside of the cupboards (which I really cannot be A*D to do so I keep convicing myself that they're not that dirty). My mum is coming to stay with me in 3 weeks time, she can do them ( joking!!).

littlerach · 27/06/2004 17:04

Well, we are supposed to be moving in 10 days, so I can nest to my heart's content!!! Keep clearing out cupboards etc, and find I am quite ruthless.

MarmaladeSun · 27/06/2004 17:24

Oooh, I just remembered what it was I wanted to comment on (told you I would didn't I?) POOING! Back in the previous messages there were lots of messages about being embarrassed about pooing in labour, and is it commom etc? Hmm...I am fully expecting to do it this time, as I did twice previously. The worst thing is, the second time was on all fours in the birthing pool, and it FLOATED behind me while the midwife was writing up notes and my (then) hubby could do nothing but stare at it with morbid fascination!!!!! I didn't even know I had done it until my nose told me otherwise. Honestly, who else but a woman could cope with the indignities of pregnancy and childbirth with such brilliant humour??? AND go on to do it again and again? Hooray for girlies!!!

serenequeen · 27/06/2004 17:31

littlerach, how is it going?

littlerach · 27/06/2004 18:09

Just had a removals firm around who gave us a reasonable quote, plus were polite and came on time! It is a real pain as our vendors live abroad, so we have to pass messages through the agents, so everything takes that much longer. And their solicitors are so crap I don't know how they are still in business. Everyone looks set for 2nd July, sooner the better for me!! Just have to book cat into cattery now!!!!

How is your move?

Quackers · 28/06/2004 00:11

Good luck with your move Littlerach!!!!!!
I'm 35 weeks, just over and not feeling that bad really. Just a bit tired and get impatient with DD sometimes, but she's a gem really. Hope this one is as good. It never works like that does it though!!!

MIL has decided this baby is on it's way before saturday

She is into Tarot Cards etc and decided to several tests last night to see if the baby was coming imminently - she done 3 different things dominoes, dots and ying &yang - all of which said either something about celebrations, a visitor, a new arrival, babies and general happiness. She then doen all 3 on DP and his said virtually the same !
Don't necessarily believe in all of this stuff but seems like a bit of a coincidence - she has decided it will be before Saturday as that is when she goes on holiday.

Needless to say, got an awful night's sleep last night - up and down like a yo yo, going to the toilet - haven't had any period type pains for the last 2 days - Maybe it's the calm before the storm (we need an excited emoticon)

littlerach · 28/06/2004 12:54

SC, have you got access to the internet at home?

Quacks,I know what you mean, DD is so good, most of the time, and was a great baby, so I worry that this one won't be.

Had much better sleep again last night.
