CorporeSarnie · 20/04/2014 15:27

Welcome to Logan, congrats kjh.
JBrd glad you're keeping busy, even if the IKEA trip was unsuccessful (although remember it is almost always awful, frustrating and argument-inducing to go there even if it is open!).
I've sent DH off with DD in the bike trailer for a bit this afternoon, as I had a bit of work I wanted to get finished off. Now feeling a bit lonesome on the sofa and guilty that DH is cycling around in the rain to give me a bit of child-free time. Bless him, he does get the short end of the stick sometimes. Still at least I can have a cup of tea and a jaffa cake without interruption Smile.

squizita · 20/04/2014 16:59

Jbird Reckon Ikea may have been a blessing in disguise... I find it stress inducing to the point I have to placate myself with their crunchy chocolate cake and hot dogs even on a quiet evening!

Corpore Bit of rain never hurt anyone! Easter Wink Enjoy your jaffa cake. I have some maderia cake and a roast on. DH is salivating staring at the oven now and again like a puppy. Easter Grin

Right: nervous question du jour: What to expect at the 20 week scan? I know that over 98% everything will be OK, and I know that even if the find an anomaly, many can be treated nowadays and/or are not fatal anyway.
But of course dead nervous!!
What do they do, how long do they take etc'? Should I drink water before or not?
Have it on Wednesday. Eeak.

CallingAllEngels · 20/04/2014 17:14

Congrats kj !

fedup I think cancelling Canada is sensible. 34 was the latest I was willing ti travel to the UK (I live in Holland) and even then I researched nearest hospitals etc!

londonjen I know what you mean about having baby stuff in house. When we were ttc ds DH bought a load of stuff from bil and sil without telling me. I told him I didn't want it in the house until I got pg. Took 18 months. In facet sil made a pa comment through my dn about us needing to "hurry up and have a baby" on Christmas day so they'd have room to empty out their loft. Was 3 weeks aftre my mc, which of course she didn't know about but still. Cut me into little pieces, I had to go and cry in the toilet. Once I was past my first scan I felt fine about it though but have never quite forgiven sil whomis a bit strange

Another gem from bil today who was hinting that I shouldn't have coffee or wine today because I'm pg which of course he doesn't know, but heDOES know I had a mc 6 months ago. Honestly, what is wrong with people? I think people like bil and sil who only have to think about sex to get pg have no idea what it can be like - but you'd think they'd at least try to watch their words.

Hmmm...pg hormones may be kicking in today!

Hi all, (from Tea)

Baby Henry arrived on Friday lunchtime (18th), born safely at home as planned, weighing 7lb 15. All well here, and thrilled with newest arrival. Posting and running to grab some sleep! Love to all on here, and hope everyone's ok - & congrats kjh! Looking forward to having a proper read soon xxx

xkatxdollx · 20/04/2014 18:40

happy I found this board I'm 5 w2d after 4 mc's I have counting down the seconds until I'm 8 weeks to get an early scan

bakingtins · 20/04/2014 18:45

Congratulations to kjh and tea delighted to hear of the safe arrival of thread babies Easter Smile

squiz you dob't need a full bladder for 20 week scan as baby will be up out of your pelvis. They take quite a long time as they check all organs and measure various things (head and abdominal circumference and femur length) mine took ages as I had a student having a go once the sonographers had finished. Just enjoy seeing your baby!

bakingtins · 20/04/2014 18:46

Welcome kat and hope this is the one that goes the distance for you. Are you on any meds this time?

xkatxdollx · 20/04/2014 18:58

no just vitamins and folic acid so far I have to book an hcg test tomorrow then a doc apt at the end of the week and see if I need any meds I don't have a problem getting pregnant just staying pregnant hopefully this one is the one I have a good feeling about this one but then I stop myself from feeling confident about this one, but I had really dark positive tests which I didn't have with the others so I'm trying to stay optimistic just can't wait until my ultrasound :)

squizita · 20/04/2014 19:15

Tea congratulations! :) :) Super news.

Thanks Baking. :) Waiting till Weds nervously! The bean is quite excitable at lunch time the last few days... fx this means optimum position for them to see everything! Or it might just be my bank holiday lunches with chocolate. Grin

Alb1 · 20/04/2014 19:35

Penguinita · 20/04/2014 19:44

Congratulations tea! Did you have a home birth in the end? How did it go, any advice for someone hoping to do the same?

For my Easter good deed I've updated the stats with tea and kjh's new arrivals. I think some of the ladies at the top of the list have had their babies too but I don't know where the old thread is to check, so please update further if you can.

NerdyBird · 20/04/2014 19:57

Congrats kjh and tea lovely easter babies!

I've been up and down recently. Steroids are helping but not as much as I'd hoped. I have taper down the dose from tomorrow which may mean the flare comes back. If it does, I might have to be treated in hospital.

I've also just realised I've only got 10 weeks left at work and a huge amount to do, but my concentration and motivation is shot. Lots to sort at home too, which isn't going to be fun as it'll mean nagging DP and I hate doing that.

We nearly fell out on thursday over whether the new soup pot I need should be paid for from household budget or my personal cash. It's only a fiver, but to me it's the principle. I give DP money for bills and food and he sorts it. I don't want to suddenly find there are lots of other things I'm expected to pay for separately just as I'm going to have less cash!

Looked up statutory maternity pay the other day which was depressing.

Anyway, enough of my whinging. Hope everyone enjoys the remainder of the holidays, and welcome to newcomers. Despite the sad times that have brought us all here we usually maintain a decent level of posifrickingtivity!

CbeebiesIsAboutToPop · 20/04/2014 20:06

Congratulations tea and kjh such great news!

Seasides · 20/04/2014 21:11

Wonderful news kjh and tea, so happy for you! Hope you're enjoying every second, you made it! (Literally Smile)

So, I think I got my first nausea today - gagging out of of nowhere. I know that sounds pretty conclusive, but it's so easy to imagine nausea, I did so many times on the 2ww. But, that would be good I suppose, that my symptoms aren't going anywhere. I've never wanted to feel sick before! Boobs still sore too, though sadly their growth spurt seems to have plateaued for now - they've got a long way to go!

Sorry the steroids aren't fixing everything nerdy, sounds so unpleasant for you. Know what you mean about concentration being awol, it's so hard to focus. I'll be on stat mat pay too if i ever get that far. Don't think DH realises how much of a difference my pittance earnings make, might be a bit of a shock when they end!

fedupofrainydays · 20/04/2014 21:59

By the pram london!

I almost bid on ebay for one of those co sleeper cot things but decided not to as that felt a bit early as am only 15.2 weeks!

I'm also on mat leave countdown. DH worked out I have 53 days left of work!! Am leaving end aug as ds is starting new pre school in sept and I don't want to have to sort new childcare arrangements around it for just one month.

fedupofrainydays · 20/04/2014 22:05

Wow - I missed a page - congrats tea and kjh and excellent names choices not biased as one is my sons name Grin

LondonJen · 20/04/2014 22:52

Whoop whoop Tea congratulations on your bundle of joy! Delighted for you! Glad home birth went smoothly.

Calling they sound a bit much! Deep breaths!

Welcome Kat, wishing you a very sticky bean. You'll find lots of support here. Good luck with your first appointments.

Much appreciated easter good deed Penguin! Was it maybe pig?

Nerdy sorry you're having a bit of a pants time. I would be the same on the money thing though. You can only do your best with work, it's not the end of the world. You need to look after yourself, first and foremost.

Seasides if you want to feel pukey then I am happy for you!

Looks like I should buy this pram then! Easter Grin tbh I am inclined to just to not have the hassle of pram shopping. Sorry if I am supposed to be eager to skip about shopping for such things but the thought of that particular research/purchase was not filling me with joy. Am such a lazy cow! Have seen pics and it looks great. Now just have to have money conversation, which I hope won't be too Easter Hmm DP will want to negotiate hard, which may make me cringe, with it being my friend. Still, needs must.

LondonJen · 20/04/2014 22:53

Fedup that is very exciting that you have worked out your mat leave!

kjh5 · 21/04/2014 06:12

Yay tea!! Thrilled to bits you got your home birth :) love your name!!

Thanks so much for your lovely kind wishes everyone

When I am less delirious with sleep deprivation I will go through the thread to catch up and PM my details to you Saggy (hope lovely Lucy is doing brilliantly)

At the moment I'm trying to let DH sleep for a few
hours while wondering how to clean up the half eaten slug the cat has thrown up in the lounge one handed and stop Logan from screaming every time I try to change/ feed/ move or dress him Grin - they do say this motherhood lark is a bit of a challenge! Xxx

MrsGiraffe12 · 21/04/2014 07:03

Congratulations KJH and tea on the birth of your precious bundles. Enjoy all the newborn snuggles :-)

I'm 20 weeks now (oh my god! How quickly has that come around!) and have my 20 week scan tomorrow, followed by a meeting with the consultant, due to all the complications with my DS birth (pre eclampsia, hellp syndrome, iugr, reduced amniotic fluid and then add an emergency c section at 32 weeks resulting in a 2lb 12oz legend being born, into the mix). Along with the suspects diastasis recti in this pregnancy, and the previous missed miscarriage I think it's safe to say my body HATES being pregnant with a passion and I won't be doing this a 3rd time.

Don't know why I'm so surprised I have issues at pregnancy, my mums obstetric history is heartbreaking, I was born at 25 weeks myself (mum miscarried my twin at 16 weeks) due to placental abruption and weighed 1lb 9oz, my sister was born at 31 weeks due to PET and weighed 4lb 8oz. Also my poor mum had 6 early miscarriages between 4 and 13 weeks, one late one at 23 weeks and a still birth at term. So poor lady has 2 children but been pregnant 9 times but carried 10 babies :-( it makes me realised how lucky I am to have such a beautiful son at home and another lovely baby on the way. Yes I have health issues but I should appreciate it really.

To all having scans and tests this week - GOOD LUCK!! And remember - TODAY WE ARE PREGNANT :-) xx

OneLittleToddleTerror · 21/04/2014 08:08

Morning. Do you have space for another one? I have been on the ttc after mc thread after my first and second losses, but dropped off because I got disheartened after months and months of bfn. I had my first mc at 6/7 weeks in jan 2013. Then another mmc at 12 weeks in apr 2013 (which turned into a proper mc at 13 week). And then bfn for the rest of the year until Christmas. Along the way I was made redundant at the end of the year and a new job this year.

I wasn't willing to believe I'm pregnant until after the 12 week scan. I was refused an early scan on the NHS. I even changed hospital became I was traumatised by the mmc scan. And I dreaded the 16wk appointment that I might not hear a heartbeat.

So here I am 18 weeks pregnant. I'm starting believing it is real now. I told my manager and HR last week but I still don't know if I would still have my job as I'm in probation till June.

My 20 week scan is on mar 7, and EDD 18/9. I'm starting to think about things like moving DD to the bigger room, decorating her big room and what I need to get for new baby.

Workingmamma · 21/04/2014 09:54

Hey Penguin, yes, completely recommend the home birth for other fellow like-minded low-riskers. The pool was great, the getting into my own bed afterwards was great, the being able to drip all the way to my own bathroom was great (no spectators), having my own jam and tea bags was marvellous, and being able to do whatever I wanted (none of this damn 'allowed' malarkey!) was absolutely the best ever. No hearing other people labouring (making plenty enough noise of my own, ta!), cannot recommend it highly enough.

The pain was obviously gnarly as expected, but no worse than feeling pain in hospital, and I had gas and air same as I would have if I'd been in. It was all much quicker, partly because I didn't have the stop-start labour I get when I get all over-aroused about when to go into hospital, and partly because I felt more able to use things like my stairs to labour on without worrying I'd get there too late. It was actually for the best that we did plan it for home in the end, as I went from contractions every 7-13 minutes (pretty erratic) to being ready to start pushing in under 15 minutes (had three contractions in 10 minutes, then three back to back on top of each other more or less immediately).

Mess was enormously less than I'd expected. Had two cheapo B&Q shower curtains down and some bed pads, plus a pile of towels I bought from Oxfam etc in the weeks before, for about £1 each. Planned to bin them, but my husband did a lovely job with Vanish and a boil wash, and they came up like a 1950's housewife's dream Grin. No lengthy clear up afterwards, midwives did almost everything (I love those women!).

Ooops, Henry awake. I'm orf for the next feed, but wanted to reply and say YES! Home birth (for us) rocked. Love, Tea x

Seasides · 21/04/2014 11:44

toddle, I remember you from my eons on the TTC after MC thread, I'm so glad to hear your good news! Congratulations, and you're so far along! I hope you're starting to feel more confident now? What a horrible year you had last year - I'm glad your job situation has worked out, I hope they take the high road with your probation & pg. The NHS can be so cruel sometimes, the first 12 weeks must have been awful for you with no early scan. All the very best - I'm kind of half here, had an inconclusive 5 week scan, so hope to still be with you after my 6 week scan on Thurs.

tea, your birth story is so inspiring, it sounds wonderful. Is Henry your first? I know midwives say they wish lots more people would have home births, but it still seems brave, I'm so glad it all went well. x

giraffe, your poor mum, what a litany of sadness. And good lord, your last pg and birth sound traumatic, I'm glad this one is going quickly and smoothly for you. My friend had diastasis recti and you'd never know now - even quite quickly after birth she felt fine.

QuietTiger · 21/04/2014 12:13

Waves to everyone on the thread. Today, I've just had a BFP. This follows the loss of DD1 to still birth at 32 weeks, a MMC and subsequent ERCP at 12 weeks, a MC at 5 weeks and a MMC at 7 weeks.

Today is also DH's birthday. He was given 2 positive pissy pregnancy sticks in an envelope for his birthday. We are shitting ourselves instead of being happy. Sad

Don't get me wrong, this BFP is desperately wanted, but so, so scary.
