hello GMM

this is a good thread - the others are right, there's nothing magic to be done to protect the babies, so it can be helpful to just focus on your own attitude.

this thread really helped me - here I am MNing at work, very bad, but it helped me deal with the last hours before the 13 wk scan tomorrow to look at this....

geordiemacminx · 21/08/2006 12:19

Thanks for that... had a look through the thread, really put my mind at rest... will make an appointment for the docs in a few weeks and see if they can give me an early scan etc.. Yep I'm MNing at work too... I find that this makes the time til lunch go quicker than actually working.. especially since I am starving.. ha 4 weeks and I'm already eating for 7!!!

weewilliewinkie · 21/08/2006 15:48

hey, t4t - I'll be thinking about you tomorrow. You'll be just fine, try not to worry too much about it. With my 13 weeks scan, I was half too scared to do it, half desperate for it, kwim? Hope you're ok. Let us know how you get on.

Can't tell you how much better I feel having heard the baby's heartbeat. I highly recommend it if you can get your midwife to do it. Of course I know it doesn't rule out anything going wrong but I somehow feel that this is more 'real' now.

time4tea · 21/08/2006 17:33

thanks WWW - I know what you mean, about partly terrified, partly desperate to know. I've been champing at the bit to do some preparing (I was looking at photos of me pregnant with DS, explaining to him that he was in my big tummy, and pictures of him just born and tiny) knitting projects (very stepford wife - someone take me out and shoot me!) and babyname books on Amazon - but somehow that fear holds me back. not much longer to wait, had a little chat with DH this morning, that if the worst happens, we'll just talk it over and get through it as we did last time.... these are such weird times for all of us

thanks for your thoughts - will let you know as soon as I can tomorrow am (scan at least at 8.45, so just time to get up, drop off DS at nursery and rush to the hospital....)

twocatsonthebed · 21/08/2006 17:46

Blimey, one weekend away and I can hardly keep up with the amount of messages in here.

Welcome to babycakes and geordiemacminx and congratulations! I do hope you can both get an early scan. My doctor referred me for one, because of previous miscarriage history, and even then I ended up crying down the phone to the hospital midwives until they gave me one. So persistence may be necessary...

And yes, Hellmans is fine at home - the real irony is that it's only expensive restaurants that make their own mayonnaise properly, so that's where you have to be careful (and beware of mayonnaisey salads in buffets and sandwich bars, as that's where listeria can grow, but anything in a supermarket pot is fine!)

Gwu - it's a funny thing - I know with my head that the baby could be born now and be OK (my goddaughter was born at 31 one weeks and is now a delightful 12 year old), but I just can't quite believe it with my heart. I think I'm still protecting myself from any kind of disappointment - although this may mean I get quite a shock in November. But I'm definitely getting a bit less gloomy as the weeks go on.

Time4tea - good luck with your scan tomorrow - will be thinking of you.

How's everyone else? I have a raging headache, which may be due to my two hour battle with my email (the email has won, hands down) but am otherwise good. We went to a civil partnership ceremony party in Brighton at the weekend, and saw loads of people we hadn't seen for ages - they were all v impressed at the size of my bump. I can't believe it's going to carry on growing for another two and a half months...

wools · 21/08/2006 18:40

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the newbies. I haven't been on here for a while so it;s taken me ages to catch up. I am almost 33 weeks and I still check for blood everytime I go to the loo so that fear never quite leaves you but it does get easier especially once you get over the 12 week hurdle.

Glad you had a nice weekend away Twocats. I would like a couple of days away somewhere before the little one arrives but not sure if it will happen.

julezboo · 21/08/2006 19:03

Hiya all

Can I join in? Hope you dont mind?

Im currently 14 weeks pregnant now (still seems surreal!) Having 5 mc's all at around 5 weeks apart from one which was a 2 trimester loss and I have a ds who is 4 yrs old. I have been diagnosed with Factor V Leiden and currently on aspirin and fragmin injections daily. Its been a long hard road to get this far including heavy bleeds at 6, 8 and 10 weeks, with spotting from 6 weeks right up until 12 weeks.

We did have our 13 weeks scan last week and bleed had resolved itself, baby did a little wiggle waving his/her arms and legs about. I just cant shake the feeling of worry!

Hope everyone else is doing ok... I still check my knickers and toilet paper everytime i go pee, think that will go right to the end if Im honest.

love to all

Julie 14+0

Gwu · 21/08/2006 19:54

I don't mean to sound disrespectful to all those who are religious, but I never expected myself to 'thank God' every time I check my knickers and there's no spotting.

I thought I was weird for knicker checking (and only wearing white ones too) till I started reading this thread.

time4tea · 22/08/2006 11:00

in haste, all went just fine at the scan, waving beanie, and nuchal scan score very reassuring

thanks again ladies, couldn't have done it without you

weewilliewinkie · 22/08/2006 11:27

great news t4t - you must be very pleased. I was wondering how you were getting on.

BTW, the knicker-checking thing is an automatic response for me too.

time4tea · 22/08/2006 11:47

I check knickers as well, even though with a missed mc I didnt have any bleeding! shows how inevitable it is

thanks WWW - I can't describe how I'm feeling - grateful-amazed-let off the hook! must try to work....!

julezboo · 22/08/2006 12:26

I went out at the weekend and stocked up on white knickers lol... Mad

I did have some spotting yesterday though

littlefrog · 22/08/2006 16:33

timefortea, I'm so glad it went well. you must be really relieved.
we're off on holiday tomorrow, and the last miscarriage happened when we were away at about the same stage, so I'm feeling a bit troubled. still, there'll be lots of things to keep me distracted!
hope everyone keeps well. xx

weewilliewinkie · 22/08/2006 16:54

julezboo, have you called your MW yet re the spotting? Perhaps she could get you in for a scan to put your mind at rest? Try not to worry about it, from all the posts on MN it seems so common to have spotting at any stage of PG.

Hope you're ok. x

julezboo · 22/08/2006 16:57

thanks www

I didnt bother calling her if im honest, i found baby on the doppler and spotting has stopped. I had a heamatoma from week 6 of my preg, scan last week showed it had resolved itself so Im guessing its the end of that? I told dp if I have anymore I will ring her, but so far today none.

Hospital are a bit skimpy on scan hun, Even though im high risk Ive only had one since being here and will not get another till 20 weeks now. Not even seen a consultant yet. But my gp is lovely!

thanks for thinking of me x x

twocatsonthebed · 22/08/2006 18:43

Welcome to Julezboo and hello to all of the other knicker-checkers (!). I'm almost recovered from that now - but only because I can feel the baby move, so I save my panics for when I haven't felt anything for a bit!

Time4tea - that's great news about the scan. You must be relieved.

Julezboo - I can't believe you haven't seen the consultant yet, that is a bit poor (although, having said that, i was referred to the consultant because of recurrent miscarriage, and didn't get to see her until well after the nuchal scan.) Whereabouts are you?

Littlefrog - have a lovely holiday. Where are you going?

Wools - how are you doing? good to hear from you!

julezboo · 22/08/2006 20:37

two cats

I know its quite shocking! I cried for hours after an argument on the phone with the midwife! Im in south wales, princess of wales hospital. Ive seen a midwife 5 weeks ago who told me i will be scanned and seen within a week of her visit (i was 9 weeks then) now 14 LOL so that was a lie.

When i went for my 13 week scan, they were 3 doctors down, only had one!! Silly I think, so spent 4 hours in the antenatal clinic, 2 midwives attempted to get blood out of me then they brought a doc down, who didnt have a clue about my condition and referred me to a heamatologist - still waiting to see him and Im supposed to have my heparin checks every 4 weeks!

My old hospital where fab, i would ring up in the morning and be there by dinner being seen/scanned. I bought a doppler though and appt with cons (finally) 6th sept, im armed with a huge list of questions and demands, he'll be sorry he made me wait

Anyway ladies, great news on scans, such a relief isnt it! My nice warm bath and book calls, night all x x

wools · 23/08/2006 00:29

Hi ladies,

Can't sleep so thought I'd pop online and check on you all.

Time4tea, Congratulations on the nuchal - you must be so relieved.

Twocats - I'm fine thanks....Getting to that stage where I'm finding it uncomfortable but other than that no complaints really. How are you doing?

Littlefrog - have a good holiday and try not to worry.

Thank mygirlolipop

I know the sonographer did say, it was probably caused by implantation bleed but because i am on aspirin and heparin injections I will bleed it out. Just hope it stops soon.

26 weeks doesnt sound all that long when you sat it like that though, its even less baby will beborn by c section at 34-36 weeks eek, not long left really is it!
