And there is this one which seems to have photos but you might prefer not to see the alien like critter at this stage...

very wierd looking at week 6!

ejt1764 · 05/02/2007 11:11

Hi, can I join you?

Have already met lissie (and fettle I think) on pg thread.

Am 6 weeks today, and feeling more positive about this pg as I'm suffereing with hyperemesis again, which I did with ds, but didn't with each of my mc (2 last year, 1 complete at 6 + 3 in January, 1 mmc spotted at dating scan at 13+1 in late May).

Trying to tell myself that this is a good thing, but it's hard when I feel so wretched. Am also suffering with very low blood pressure, which is making me very dizzy. Didn't have that with ds!

Anyway, hope you don't mind me gatecrashing!

Have decided to wait until next week to see my doctor. I just (possibly foolishly) have such a positive feeling about this one now that I've got my head around being pg and I really want to get a scan when it has a good chance of picking up a heart beat.

Bad news was that the earliest I could get a booking-in appointment was the 5 March by which time, I'll be 10 weeks, if everything is okay. They have said they'll keep a note and call me back if an appointment comes free sooner...

Juicylucytoo · 05/02/2007 11:24

T4T I have the opposite problem to you today.

Hadn't felt any kicks so far today - literally until I started writing this post!

I get really anxious if he doesn't kick me very regularly throughout the day. (am now 24 weeks). When are you supposed to start looking out for more than 10 kicks a day?

I also get odd other pains too, sometimes lower abdomen, but so far have resisted the urge to ring the MW and they've stopped.

Fettle - glad you got your scan sorted. It's so reassuring. And nausea is GOOD!!

rubles · 05/02/2007 11:42

You're not gatecrashing ejt - the more the merrier. Congratulations. There are quite a few of us at around 6 weeks aren't there?

Lissielou - congratulations to you too. I have had the 'oh no I feel too moist' feeling which has sent me scurrying to the toilet. It is really, really, scary.

That 6 week picture is a bit weird, but I like it - the whole process is so amazing.

Does/did anyone else have insomnia or early waking at this stage. Despite the fact I am overly tired during the day but I wake at about 5/6 in the morning and then I am awake for the day (probably because my mind has started racing thinking 'are my boobs still hurting' 'can I feel any cramps' etc).

xxxxxxx

JuicyLucy - I went mad at a midwife on the 10-kicks-a-day thing as she couldn't tell me what it meant (10 kicks all at once - spaced regularly throughout the day.. what exactly!!) and the hospital doctor I saw and then I read in the Lesley Regan book the same thing, just try to have an idea of the usual pattern of kicks (ie my bub tends to have a big romp around now, late afternoon, when I first wake up and when I first settle down in bed: also when I have a big cuddle and if I have tea/a sugary snack/fruit juice) if you are anxious about baby moving then you can try to get a rise out of him/her with the sugar, or a cold drink. I've found this one will go quiet, I'll start worrying, and then just as I'm about to hop in a cab to the hospital, I get one cheeky kick as if to say 'Ha! got you worried there!'

Once I did end up going to the hosp when pg with DS, and found the machine was picking up what I had thought were digestion rumblings - in fact the baby had moved and the quality of movemnets had changed. Always play safe though and if you are worried go along and have bub checked.

lovely to have so many new names on the thread. fingers crossed for all of us

ejt1764 · 05/02/2007 12:07

Thanks rubles - I'm actually thinking of starting a new organisation knicker checkers anonymous - for all of us who have to check underwear!

fettle · 05/02/2007 12:57

Hi Girls

Juicy, it is horrible when they don't move for a while - I had obstetric cholestasis when pg with DD, so I had to really watch for decreased movements in my last weeks. I was told if I'd felt no movement or was worried to drink some lucozade and if I still had no movement within 30 mins to call the hospital! Thankfully never had to try it, but still had a bottle of lucozade in the fridge from my pg, when DD was 1!! Imagine it's a bit like giving us an intravenous glucose injection feeding them glucose!

Hope all is ok.

Hello ejt, yes I remember you. Funny you, me, Lissie and Rubles are all around 6 weeks - we can go through these worrying first few weeks together!

take care all
x

fettle · 05/02/2007 12:58

knicker Watchers anonymous

  • the organisation for women who feel an overwhelming need to check their underwear for signs of 'all not being well' ...
  • the organisation for those who have had to stop what they are doing and rush to the nearest loo because they have felt damp - only to find it is on overdose of lady lotion

Membership is free to all who need it! All you need to join is to confess your worst episode of knicker checking ...

I left my year 9 class in the (capable) hands of an LSA last week to run to the loo in the middle of a lesson, as I felt a bit of a gush ... needless to say it was the lady lotion!!

Graduation from kca can only be gained by giving birth!!

Glad to find you rubles, lissie, fettle & co - looking forward to having somebody else to share my paranoia with ... rather than dh!

Juicylucytoo · 05/02/2007 14:56

Thanks girls. He's pretty quiet today, but is still giving me the odd kick, so I'm trying not to get too worried just yet. Probably just hates Mondays - like his mum!! I've just had a can of Irn Bru and two digestive biscuits, so hoping that will spur him into action.

Gosh 6 weeks. I remember it well! I hope you all have safe and healthy pregnancy journeys.

Oh god, and the knicker checking doesn't seem to stop later in pg either!! My lady lotion gushes have increased since entering the second trimester.

fettle · 05/02/2007 15:22

PMSL ejt at your post about KWA!! Luckily my pelvic floor muscles are still holding out, or else I?d have something other than lady lotion to worry about at the moment!!

Most embarrassing moment ? yesterday in a bed shop, trying out new spare beds with my sister. Sitting on a white mattress ? stood up, convinced I?d left a mark and there was a tiny spot of red on the mattress where I?d been sitting!! Lots of gushing feelings before & after. I would have run from the shop if it weren?t for DD refusing to get down from the bunk beds she was trying out!!

Got home and nothing!! Now makes me wonder what and where the red had come from on the bed shop mattress, but that?s a different thought!!!

just been to see GP for last ante-natal check. I have another slightly high blood glucose level so they want to do glucose tolerance test again - another treat of Lucozade for me!

feeling very emotional again (although not bothered about the glucose test) more about baby generally, will the next two weeks be ok. It all seems like a big blank ahead of me, I cannot imagine having a baby in my arms in 2 weeks. at least nesting seems to be going a bit better - we have carpenters booked for next week and DH is taking an extra day off to fix things up. It all seemed too overwhelming the last couple of days.

am still knicker-watching at 37 weeks its right that there is no release from that club until the baby is born.

ejt1764 · 05/02/2007 16:06

And there was me thinking the knicker watch would subside after about 12 weeks!

Hey, another idea ... you know how bbc doa programme called 'Spring Watch' / 'Autumn Watch' - we could have 'knicker watch' ...

Bill Oddie and Kate Humble commentating about the strange behaviour of pg women ducking into public loos for a quick check ... the possibilities are endless!!

ejt1764 · 05/02/2007 16:09

time4tea - big hugs to you - though I won't be too nice just in case I make you cry. You'll hold your baby and it'll all be worth it!

first start - thanks for reminding me about the good old pelvic floor muscles ... the post it will have to go on the mirror again to remind me ...

juicylucy - I found myself having to wear san pads late in when pg with ds ... ugh!

first star - if I start to irritate you, please tell me - I tend to use humour as a self-defence mechanism - the more I use it, the more insecure I'm usually feeling!

Still thinking about the possibilities of a programme called 'Knicker Watch' though!

Hello everyone, room for one more?

I am pregnant again after a missed miscarriage at 9 weeks (found out at the 12 week scan) at the start of October. If I have counted right I must be about 6 weeks now, due date end of September ish.

Haven't read all of the thread as it is so long, but have read some positive things. I also have a ds which was a first pregnancy which went fine all the way through, no problems at all, he is now 20 mths. I am keeping my fingers crossed for this time round, but can't help feeling extremely anxious.

time4tea · 06/02/2007 07:54

Hello Mrs Fish and welcome

I was in exactly the same position as you - a missed mc and then pg soon after. Quite a head-messer, as with a missed mc there is no indication that things are not going well - therefore whatever is going on seems ominous. What tends to be recommended on the thread - push your GP or contact local Early Pregnancy Unit for an early scan (7-9 weeks... although I got scanned twice, because the first scan showed the baby at the same stage as the baby that died, they scanned again 2 weeks later to make sure the new baby got over the difficult stage) and try to fill your days with relaxing stuff, or things that keep you mind occupied, with lots of treats scheduled to look forward to. It does get better.

I always recommend the Lesley Regan book Your Pregnancy Week by Week. She's a specialist in mc and covers this topic, and subsequent pregnancy fears, very well in the book. Plus there is lots of information about symptoms like cramp etc which had me confused first time round.

On BBC KnickerWatch idea. Last time we were at London Zoo, we saw Bill Oddie doing some filming. It was a bit disappointing, as you kind of expected him to be chatting to passers by, or at least humming 'the funky gibbon' and grinning to himself but no, he was just hanging around looking a bit grumpy. Maybe not the presenter with vim and verve who would be right for KnickerWatch

time4tea · 06/02/2007 07:56

PS: thanks ladies for the words of support and compassion. have some food treats lined up for today - I'm going out for lunch on my own (therefore can scoff as much as I like plus the start of a little knitting project for the bub. Maybe doing something nice for him/her will make it feel more real.

thanks again, you are lovely

Uki · 06/02/2007 08:34

wow lots going on here LOL about the knicker watch, although it's not really that funny as we do it seriously

I'm a bit perkier today, after having two naps already, well it is night now.

The reason I was really down yestserday, is you won't believe it. I bought some tasty cheese from the supermarket ate it and thought it was a little off. dh checked pack and it was one year past use by date.

I got into a real tizzy, rang company to check it wasn't a mistake, rang doctor, and now have to have blood test to check i don't have listeria.

Supermarket didn't know how it happened, apologised and gave me a bunch of flowers, but I just want all to be ok.
