hello all, wow! So many new 'faces' - congratulations and welcome!

Haven't been about for a while, no reason...19+2 now - yippee! - and feeling alright...still a bit weary all the time but I can handle that. Haven't had time to read the thread but will do later. Hope everyone is feeling well and positive and happy, this is the nicest thread ever!

Special positive vibes for Nicola - any news?

Next scan for me is next Friday, but as I too can feel baby wriggling away I'm fairly confident all is well. Also felt an enormous thud inside last night, it actually took my breath away - must've been too strong for baby but I've no idea what else it could've been!
Decided not to find out the sex...but I'll be having a bloody good look for 'bits' at the scan!

twocatsonthebed · 02/10/2006 14:47

Little tinker indeed.

How is everyone today?

I'm on what is near as dammit my first day of maternity leave (I've got a couple of half days to do over the next two weeks just to tidy things up). I'm not bored yet...

Bobbynog - hope the scan is/was good - and hope everyone else is managing to relax

Nicola63 · 02/10/2006 17:23

Hi
My next scan is on Thursday morning, so I will know more then. I will just have to take it from there, depending on what happens. I have tried to just keep busy and not think too much. I feel so very pregnant, though. Boobs sore, feeling sick all the time, bloating etc. It seems hard to imagine this may all be wrong and the odds are that there is something very wrong with the baby.

I really really do appreciate the care and support I get on here, whatever happens. Thanks so much.

time4tea · 02/10/2006 18:18

good to hear from you WWW - its been a while, glad all's well.

I've had a great day - at last the nausea has cleared - at 19 weeks! I feel completely swizzled by all the info about morning sickness being over by 12 weeks, what a lie. but really, its a new lease of life not to be feeling so bad. I even had a nice lunch with a friend from work, a slap-up curry, fingers crossed I have turned a corner from feeling constantly tired and nauseous (like a 5 month hangover )

Nicola, the time seems to have gone by quickly, although probably not for you - we'll keep rooting for you and your baby.

weewilliewinkie · 02/10/2006 20:02

does anyone know what the deal is with only sleeping on your left side during pregnancy - are you meant to do this for the whole time? I tend to be restless and there's no way I'd stay on my left all night! What's the reason behind it? Is it ultra-important? Or just one more thing to cause needless concern?

My back is killing me - bump is really quite big now. I've bought one of those birthing balls - havem't blown it up yet though as ds will think it's a new toy! but I'm hoping it might help with the backache, plus I read that it can really help when it comes to labour.

Nicola - fingers crossed for Thursday. Hope you get the news you need...thinking of you.

DippyHippy · 02/10/2006 21:40

had a quick google and found this...

Should be 6 weeks today. My concern is though that I've been spotting dark brown blood on and off since Thursday. I had this last time I mc'd, but don't know if this was an early sign or coincidental.

Still feel quite pg, but know this can be deceptive. Don't know really what to do. As only 6 weeks, it is probably too early to get a heartbeat if I go to the EPU.

How long should I wait before asking to be referred.

Nicola63 · 03/10/2006 09:48

Mygirl, the sleeping on the left (in late preg anyway) relates to the position of the main vein in the abdomen, the inferior vena cava. It is situated on the right side and so if you lie on the right the baby can squash it and impede the flow of the blood back to the heart. This may increase the incidence of varicose veins in the pelvic area and lead to congestion (if it goes on continually though, not if you occasionally roll onto your right side!)

littlefrog · 03/10/2006 10:20

Juicylucy, sorry to hear about spotting. This time I went to the EPU at less than 6 weeks (I think it was 5+4) and they were almost sure they saw a heartbeat then. Absolutely definite at 7. So things can, sometimes, be seen pretty early. If it would reassure you then I'd ask to be referred now. Hope it's all alright!
Nicola, best of good luck for Thursday.

Just wanted to send my best to Nicola and Juicy- hope it all goes well.
xx

bobbynog · 03/10/2006 16:54

The scan went really well - junior is rather camera shy, and wouldn't take its hands away from its face so i had to jiggle around alot! AM feeling much more relaxed now - i thought i would be a wreck all through the pregnancy!
Thinking of you nicola and juicy.
I didn't know that about the sleeping on the left, but as i got bigger last time i certainly struggled to wriggle as much in my sleep, and ended up sleeping on my left with a pillow wedged between my knees - don't know if any of you will find that comfier. My problem is i am sleeping really lightly at the moment - the slightest thing wakes me up - usually i sleep like the dead!
Hope everyone is ok

wools · 03/10/2006 19:34

Hi everyone,

Glad the scan went well Bobbynog.

Juicylucy - could the bleeding be an implantation bleed? I hear brown blood is old blood so shouldn't be anything to worry about but obviously as you've had a mc before of course you are bound to worry. I would still try and go to the EPU as they may be able to tell what the bleed is. Wishing you all the best.

Nicola - thinking of you and hoping for good news at your scan on Thursday.

Twocats - glad you are enjoying your maternity leave. Do you know how long you plan to take?

twocatsonthebed · 04/10/2006 09:09

Morning all,

Bobbnog - glad the scan went well, even without the co-operation of the star! And also glad that you're starting to relax.

Nicola - good luck tomorrow and I really do hope everything it fine.

Juicylucy - as wools says, brown blood is not so worrying, and could well be an implantation bleed (and the timing sounds about right), but it probably is worth seeing if the EPU can tell you anything.

time4tea and www - good to hear from you both, and great that you are also both at 19 weeks. Glad you are both starting to feel a bit more lively (it took until about then for me too - but then the good news was I stayed feeling chipper for longer than some people)

wools - blimey, not long for you now! How are you feeling? I'm a freelance, so don't have to decide immediately how long I will be staying off for - the answer will probably be until the money runs out! My old company will have me back though, and will let me do some combination of part-time/working at home on development, which may well persuade me back after six months or so.

Day two of maternity leave yesterday, and I slipped (let's get this in perspective, my right foot slipped about 4 inches and I didn't fall over) but now have groin strain, so am hobbling about like an old lady. But still have long list of things to do.

And a question. Do I really need one of those mattress protector thingies in case my waters break in bed? And if so, what's the least repellent kind to get?

Juicylucythe2nd · 04/10/2006 12:05

Just wanted to let you know had my appt at the EPU today and there was a heartbeat. All looks ok for the moment. They've given me another appt for in 3 weeks to check on the progress.

Feeling slightly less worried now.

Juicy- just wanted to say fab news about h/b...so happy for you. Got my early scan in 2 weeks- hoping for the same!!

wools · 04/10/2006 18:21

Juicylucy - great news, I hope you'll be able to relax a bit more.

Mygirl - must admit childbirth is not my strong point. For the last 2 births, I was induced and it hurt like hell. Mentally I'm more prepared and have a tens machine this time so I'm really hoping for a more positive experience.

Twocats - yep only a week away now (in theory anyway). I don't know where the time has gone.
6 months sounds a decent maternity leave period. I took 6 months with my last ds - not sure what I'll do this time - maybe take a bit longer but like you it does rather depend on money.

rubles · 05/10/2006 09:08

Just popping over to wish Nicola good luck today. I hope you get the good news you deserve.

time4tea · 05/10/2006 09:12

me too, was thinking about you first thing this morning Nicola. wishing you all the very best.

Nicola63 · 05/10/2006 14:30

I am sorry to have to report back on a very sad note. The scan showed very little growth and no heartbeat. I am having an ERPC tomorrow morning. DH and I will have to give some serious thought about everything once we have got over this bit, three miscarriages is probably enough for me, I don't think I can necessarily go through this again.

Thank you everyone, so very much, for your kind words and wishes. I wish every one of you all the best in your pregnancies and lots of happiness for the future.

Nicola
