squiz I had those all weekend and was sure it was headed to the dreaded. They seem to have improved now, so I think its stretching. :)

kjh5 · 10/02/2014 14:49

ooh liesel this is exciting! Here's hoping you don't have a long wait.

Squiz and Allis those are perfectly normal, I remember suffering exactly the same kind of pains between about 8/9 weeks right through until about 19weeks. You'll find you get general achiness and the odd sharp pain all the way through. I'm 30weeks now and have had period-like pains for the past week! It's all normal and just part of being preggo and your womb stretching to accommodate everything that needs to fit in there!

Welcome boop you are most certainly in the right place, here is hoping you have an uneventful pregnancy! Congratulations - today you are pregnant! I think most of us had an early scan at some point or another. I booked a private one in for 8 weeks as reassurance but ended up going to EPU for one at 7weeks because I was worried about bleeding/cramping. At that point we saw a heartbeat and arm and leg buds so it was reassuring to know everything was ok.

For everyone in the first trimester - those 12 weeks are the hardest. It does get a bit easier as you go along, and despite the fact that time feels like it is dragging now, you will suddenly realise that you've made it through and the end is in sight!

Awww saggy that is lovely you had a surprise baby shower! Hope you got lots of lovely stuff for Ryvita :)

Boop33 · 10/02/2014 15:04

Hi Everyone !

Thanks you so much for your responses ! I really just want to hear a heartbeat as i had a mmc first and no heartbeat ( awful!) and then a natural mc.

I am now 7 weeks so maybe in a week or so . Has anyone had a nhs scan at this time and how much are we paying for private scans?

Just any re-assurance really that everything is ok and thank you kjh5 - today i am pregnant !

x

JBrd · 10/02/2014 15:22

Boop I had a reassurance scan at 7 weeks in my last pregnancy, the midwife arranged it, it was on the NHS.
From my experience, a private scan will be around £100, depending on where you have it.

LondonJen · 10/02/2014 15:34

Too true Squiz. Very exciting that you are in new territory (tho I'm sure is nervy making too).

Hello Boop, I can't help with scan questions I'm afraid but sure you will find lots of answers here from others.

Am having on and off stabby pains in my tum, like being poked with a knitting needle! Taking this as a good sign of stretching and general settling in. At first I thought it was quite high up to be womb but then I realised that's just where my period pains happen too so must make some sense that it's same area!?

Today I am pregnant and trying to decide whether to cancel plans with friend later this week (hiding!) meet and not say anything (hard to hide lack of drinking and not seen her since had MC so she might expect me to talk about it when I prob don't want to now am pg) or tell her. Now I am faced with it I don't know if I want to tell anyone in RL... Hmm.. thanks for listening to me garbling away I have def decided I would have gone insane the last 2 weeks without this board!!

Pixielady83 · 10/02/2014 15:51

Welcome boop I hope this pregnancy is trouble free and smooth for you Smile I can't really help with early scans, our loss was at 8/9 weeks so we took the decision that it wouldn't really be reassuring to have anything before that stage. I think it depends very much on your own experience. We had a 10 wk nhs scan, the earliest they would offer.

Squiz yes stretching pains are very normal, it is everything settling in Smile

Ladies who have had babies before. I am getting some very sharp pains down below at times, so bad I have to stop walking and wait for them to pass. I didn't have this last time but think it might be the baby's head against my cervix. It's really really sharp and sore though, takes my breath away. Is this normal? I feel a bit foolish asking this Blush obviously I know it is going to hurt to give birth but this pain is sudden and acute and makes me feel quite scared of what is to come! Shock when I went into labour with DD I just remember the contractions building up slowly in intensity which felt manageable but she was feet down so quite different.

ruth1104 · 10/02/2014 15:51

Hello everybody, can I join this lovely thread please? I got my BFP(s) this weekend after a miscarriage at 5 weeks in December. It does feel different this time - I had a lot of abdominal pain last time which obviously turned into cramps but I'm swinging between being delighted and terrified so I'd like a safe place to be! Every twinge or dampness in the pants has me spiraling into despair... Pregnancy hormones don't help at a time like this! Anyway you all seem lovely and I'd like to hang out please x

Pixielady83 · 10/02/2014 15:54

welcome ruth sorry for your loss but many congratulations on your bpf Smile that's good to hear you are feeling different this time. Hope you have a very straightforward and dull pregnancy this time!

fod27 · 10/02/2014 16:00

Thank you so much ladies that she's me feel a little more sane about my reaction, came home from work to find that they have now purchased and dropped off a baby bath too! Think I'm gonna go on a secret spending spree

Pixielady83 · 10/02/2014 16:08

fod maybe you should add up all the money they've spent on stuff you were going to buy and treat yourself and bump with some lovely things Grin

Lieslvontrapp · 10/02/2014 16:45

Aoife glad you're enjoying the spa break.

pixie I've been getting more pressures down below like the head is pressing on my cervix but not sure if that means anything will happen soon. Sounds similar to what your experiencing.

jbrd someone stealing your due date is very rude! Feeling yuck yesterday sounds very positive. Hoping the next 2 wks go quickly for you.

Welcome boop! Yes you're in the right place. Sorry for your previous losses but congrats on your bfp. I had a private scan at 10 wks which worked out well as u didn't get my nhs one until 13+4. I managed to find somewhere that did early scans for £50 but I know it can be as much as £100 at some places.

Squiz I definitely had mild period pains from getting my bfp until about 16 wks so what your feeling sounds normal stretching.

Welcome ruth congrats on your bfp!

Pixielady83 · 10/02/2014 16:57

Thanks liesl as you say very unlikely it means anything is happening. I'm just a bit alarmed that it is so painful. I am concerned I am a mega wuss and am going to find full labour a complete nightmare!! I was reading the funniest childbirth stories thread today and to be honest it just freaked me out more. I need to listen to my hypnobirthing CD again!

I'd prefer not to go into labour at least until the weekend really (when DD is away at my mum's so it would be perfect, no stressful sorting of childcare to do) but obviously these things never go to plan!

fod27 · 10/02/2014 19:30

That's a nice idea pixie I was hoping there would be a bath fitted today.... Nope! No bath! Only been waiting 4 days for one ;( I was having back pain last night and all I could think of was " I can't go into hospital! I need a bath!" He's not done any food shopping either! I can't because of the SPD - no pulling trolleys etc. So I've had pot noodle for the second night! I'm hungry, dirty and want to cry in the corner! DH has gone MIL for a bath and tea! How very fucking nice for him!

squizita · 10/02/2014 19:37

fod :( you poor thing. Can't believe he went out fgor dinner, he could have at least got you a take away!!

Has anyone else had perinatal counselling/psychologist? I've been referred as I am nervous of hospitals + the miscarriages = anxiety. The letter looked very "official" and I am now scared they'll have me down as a nutter before I get there. Shock the 'they tell social services and you'll be seen as unfit' comment from s mate didnt help either.

fedupofrainydays · 10/02/2014 19:45

fod do an online supermarket shop?? And is there a local leisure centre or gym you could go to for a shower? Or any friends locally?

pixie you will be ok. It is painful but we go a but super human when in full labour and it becomes a bit of an out of body experience!! You just go with the flow and get all the drugs!!

Pixielady83 · 10/02/2014 19:58

thanks fedup Smile I coped ok with the first bit last time but had a section relatively early on so no idea about the rest. A close friend had a horrible experience recently and it has made me wobble. One day I'm confident my body knows exactly what to do, the next I'm scared stiff Confused

squiz no experience I'm afraid but I'm certain there is no automatic social services link, what an unhelpful thing for your friend to say to you Angry I would guess the aim is hopefully to give you the opportunity to talk through your anxieties and help you build your confidence going into it all rather than waiting til you feel at a crisis point and then intervening. Hopefully you'll find it really good. A friend had counselling for PND, so a different situation, but she said it helped her immensely.

scater · 10/02/2014 20:26

Hi all

Hope you are doing well, nice to see some new bfps.

I am 18 weeks with the twins tomorrow. Currently stressing again as don't think I have felt the pops for the last couple of days. I may have felt something but am worrying so much I just don't know.
Am hoping babies are just kicking each otherSad

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 10/02/2014 20:44

Pixie stabby like a knotting needle in the cervix pains?
Quite normal. Cervixes? are a muscle it's just tweaking, probably because of the babies head.
IME contractions are much more period pain like with lots of braxtons hicks tightenings and a bit of backache thrown in. I got stabby pains but I was induced and the pessary works mainly on the cervix and is very localised . I don't think it's such a mainstream natural labour thing.
Try not to think about other people's horror stories too much. They're rarer than you think and people love to scare pg women. Hmm

Pixielady83 · 10/02/2014 20:45

hi scater I found movements came and went around that time- although I've no experience with twins obviously. I think because they're still little they can change positions quite frequently and sometimes you won't feel as much. I didn't have a regular pattern of movements this time until 22-24 wks so try not to worry too much Thanks

Pixielady83 · 10/02/2014 20:47

saggy yes, like something very sharp is pushing hard on it. Has freaked me out as quite emotionally prepared for the contraction type pain but not this sudden stabbiness!

scater · 10/02/2014 20:51

Thanks pixie. Thinking of you and your stabby painsxxx.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 10/02/2014 20:55

Scater dont forget, you've got 2 placenta in there which could be masking movements and if the little ones are facing backwards then they'll be kicking bits that don't feel stuff.

scater · 10/02/2014 21:01

True saggy, my rational brain tells me this, the rest of me doesntBlush

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 10/02/2014 21:13

Don't worry. Grin Im very good at being logical and reassuring for other people. I'm a gibbering wreck about myself! Blush

Aoifebelle · 10/02/2014 21:35

Fod seriously darlin, consider checking yourself into a hotel. If your nearest and dearest won't care for you at a time like this, then, if it is at all financially possible, pay someone else to do it. There are really good deals at this time of year. Also doing a disappearing act sends a very strong signal. My sister did this when she was pregnant worked a treat.
