Hey JBd, I am in the same boat as you. I don't think I would go for an early scan unless there was the option of medical intervention should all not be well. I also wouldn't scan much before 8 weeks, too high a risk of dates being slightly out and the scan causing unnecessary worry. I am thinking I might content myself with getting to 8ish weeks, poas, if still strongly positive, wait it out to 12 weeks, if weak positive ask for scan. Not exactly scientific, but at least its a plan. How are you feeling?

davidtennantsmistress · 02/02/2014 09:05

Morning everyone, I've just had a bfp. I'm v v rely, but have v short cycles, tested ops about a week ago. Seems to be a sticker, no chemical one as of yet, but likewise now I'm scared stiff it's not going to be a healthy bean.

My history from 16; mc, chem pg, ds1, mc, chem ds2, chem mc pg hopefully baby 3.

Miscarraiges have basically been mmc where baby has stopped growing at 8 weeks and no heart has been found either time. First natural second last September was eprc.

My doctor is ringing Monday as I was suppose to have a smear done with swabs for strep b as a possible reason for my m.c's. The doctor won't refer me until I have another m c as I'm the higher end of average but they don't count chemical pgs.

So far my hips ache constantly so I'm not sleeping properly already and my back aches, I'm raged and hormonal. Plus worried constantly that I'm going to bleed and it won't stick. Poor hubs is refusing to believe it and won't get excited at all, likewise he doesn't want another early scan (when we found out last time paid for a private one) but I need to have one, will see if I can through my doctor have one.

Were on the roller coaster, and all I really want is to have my family complete with this last pregnancy being successful, we'd decided last time would be the last but I have a drive for three.

Also I have two boys, I'm worried I can't carry girls, has anyone found this to be a reason for their m.c's at all? Thanks look forward to getting to know you all.

bakingtins · 02/02/2014 09:20

Welcome Jen, hamster, hands full, hopeful and dtm! Lovely to have so many newbies. I hope you all have a very uneventful 8 months.

DTM I have 2 boys and have had several people suggest I can't carry girls, have not been able to find anything other than anecdotes and am now pregnant with a girl. If anything, there are more issues with carrying boys being recognised as 'foreign' and triggering immune issues, but evidence for that pretty sketchy. I think people just want to find a reason for your pain, and if they don't know they make it up. Hope this one, of whatever colour, is sticky for you.

jbrd I think an 8 week scan is a good option. You aren't likely to be in the "no heartbeat yet are dates wrong" limbo, and if you have a good scan at that point your MC risk drops significantly, plus it halves the wait for the 12 week scan. But everyone is different, do whatever gets you through.

squizita · 02/02/2014 09:33

DTM Welcome! Hope this one is sticky.
With your losses, how are they defining 'chemical'? One of my 3 losses was early and I had to get an EPU gynie to prod my doc- but what I learned was If there was a positive pregnancy test, it counts as a MC in terms of NHS referrals (especially as you have short cycles). I've seen a lot of people been told they have chemical pregnancies at 4+ weeks - actually that's an early MC and a GP who doesn't know enough or wants to save money or being told a blighted ovum is a chemical pregnancy. The miscarriage association can give good advice about this, that's where I got my advice.
Like Baking I've heard of the gender thing as anecdote only, but I've not heard of it from a clinic or anything.

davidtennantsmistress · 02/02/2014 09:34

Wow congratulations baking tins, and thank you for the welcome. I'm just on 4 weeks, as I say v early, feeling queenly as well and lots of ewcm, is that a good sign I can't remember.

BlackholesAndRevelations · 02/02/2014 09:36

Hi all! I found you all pretty quickly but having seen the stats list and all thd babies I've missed (CINGRATULATIONS ALL OF YOU!!) I'm going to have to trawl back through old threads to see details!!

My girl is 6 weeks old today (she was born on 22nd not 23rd as on stats list) it feels like she's been here forever. We had the best nights sleep lastnight since she arrived- we have struggled a bit in that department!! Otherwise she's settled in beautifully and FYI ladies- it's true what they say about the third just slotting in- ours has! I have a feeling of contentment and completeness now she's here, like she was truly meant to be.

Good luck to all the newly pg, and offering strength to everyone who is at later stages. Today you are pregnant!

davidtennantsmistress · 02/02/2014 09:37

Basically each ones had positive tests by me, and then I've started bleeding between weeks 4-5, my cycles typically are 25 days 26 max. I over on cd 11 generally. The test I originally used cb digital said 1-2 which would be right, one yesterday said the same. Bt also had two other cheaply tescos digitalis inbetween which have said the same all positives. Which makes me think it's going to stick, my doctor said a chem pg is basically a fertilised egg which doesn't stick and in essence develop but a non sticker. Surely you wouldn't have more than a v weak positive?

squizita · 02/02/2014 09:54

David Positive HPT = NHS views you as 'pregnant'. To get a positive, the egg must have implanted. The egg has to be implanted to give a positive: my (female, more sympathetic than the last) GP said for about 48hr - hence some women get implantation bleeding 2 days before bfp.
If you are getting consistent positives that is great (but don't rely on them - they can cause needless worry as they are affected by time of day, dilutedness of urine etc').

I'm still a little dismayed at your GP. Sounds a bit out-of-date in his/her knowledge. The NHS would count your week 4-5 losses as miscarriages (and by the NHS I mean St Mary's their biggest RMC clinic, my local NHS trust EPU/Gynie consultant etc'). Indeed with my particular problem (APS - a form causing 90%+ loss if untreated 70% success rate once treated) the very early nature of the losses was a vital clue as to what was happening in my case for St Marys! Mr Rai did note that 'years ago' cases such as mine would have been 'missed' because of GP lack of knowledge.

Aoifebelle · 02/02/2014 15:48

OMG feeling like pants today. Complete pregnancy brain, incapable of making any decision. Have been just been wandering round sainsburys for nearly an hour. I only needed four things and it was a local, not one of the big ones. I only managed to get three of the four things I needed. I now need to lie down. Long may it last.

Handsfullandlovingit · 02/02/2014 18:30

aiofebelle that's irritating for you but funny for us! When pregnant with my first I used to get lost on the way to the gp, where I had been going for years. I have a list app on my phone, and since my brain has never returned (or is it I have no time to think?) I rely on that.

I'm so very chuffed to be here, lovely to see old faces. Hello jbrd and Suzy, see where posifrikentivity gets us! baking you were so kind when I was stuck in hospital with an infection, no food and the meanest anaesthetist in the world. Times like this you love Mumsnet.

squizita · 02/02/2014 18:57

Getting some odd sharp twinges - quite high up on the left hand side. Hoping theyre gastric but knicker checking like crazy!

Aoifebelle · 02/02/2014 19:15

Sounds more like trapped wind to me squiz. That's where it gets me. The threads on here overwhelmingly suggest that if it is anything to worry about pains come on more like period pain. Low and dull not high and sharp. Maybe some gentle stretches, if it is wind that tends to shift it for me. Deep breaths and posifrickintivity.

squizita · 02/02/2014 19:25

Thanks Aoife yes it doesn't feel like MC pain. Plus I havent done a number 2 today (tmi). Its just ANY pain gets me rattled!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 02/02/2014 19:33

If you look at a diagram of your innards, high up on the left is a sharp corner in your colon before the final swoop down to your rectum. Its a great sticking place for wind or constipation. Its more than likely that. Your uterus in the early days is still tiny and we'll down in your pelvis.

Aoifebelle · 02/02/2014 22:46

Well you are a blackhole, so really can't complain if you are invisible. 6 weeks today! Tell me are you finding that you are more crazy during pregnancy or with small infant and totally sleep deprived? I just want to have a rough estimate of how many months of crazy lie ahead (fingers crossed).

BlackholesAndRevelations · 03/02/2014 03:31

Well I didn't ever really believe I was having another baby until she was actually here, so I'd say it'll last only til you have the baby safe in your arms! How much longer have yu got to wait?

davidtennantsmistress · 03/02/2014 06:29

Aww b?ack, I didn't reply yest as was in tears (again!) that's what I want to finally feel. Fingers crossed. Also very pleased to hear little lady slots right in. How do you find the school run? That's my biggest worry.

Squid, it's probably no 2 ishoos, as long as it's not the due ache fingers crossed but totally understandable knicker checking. We did touch on that, she said there had been a study with a lady professor of sorts who was an awful lady but fantastic doctor who suggested aspirin worked, however by my doctors own conclusion as it hadn't filtered into general practice it was more a Woolley thing rather than actual fact. I'll talk to her again today to see what she thinks.

Aoife :) haha that's great, I'm still awaiting my brain and memory to return after ds1 7 years ago!

I'm busy here taking my pregnacare, sent hubs for some on fri and had a 'bloody hell they're expensive £10 a packet! Hmmm... No love you bought three months supply lol' men! Still saves me money. Also have my iron as well two tablets of that a day. This one will be healthy. Out of interest as well, do any of you think the Chinese calender things are any good? I found one which got two boys right and says now it's a girl, or do you think it's a load of tosh?

squizita · 03/02/2014 08:12

David ... is she talking about Prof Regan? She's very well established indeed, not a woolly thing at all. Do talk to her again. Name drop St Marys if you have to, they don't "do" woolly. I have a cut-and-dried case of APS and am on Clexane and aspirin and it's not experimental they've been doing this for 10 years+! So do ask ... aspirin cannot harm and could help.

squizita · 03/02/2014 10:30

...anyone else got a scan/check up this week?

Mine's tomorrow. No bad symptoms, HB seen last time (only MMC ever was a blighted ovum)... but still bricking it! Of course!

HopefulHamster · 03/02/2014 10:48

Good luck squiz, my early scan is two weeks today. Scared already!

bakingtins · 03/02/2014 11:00

Good luck squiz

Handsfullandlovingit · 03/02/2014 11:23

squizz I will be thinking of you. I can't imagine how scary it will be.

I'm seeing the gp at 4. I have had a good chat with the miscarriage association so I know to ask for reassurance scans and to be feisty about getting it logged in case the worst happens. The lady was so.lovley, it was amazing to talk to someone who got it.

NerdyBird · 03/02/2014 13:56

Hi everyone

I haven't posted in a while but have tried to keep up. I have been a bit up and down. I decided against a doppler or a scan, we can't afford the scan and I was worried the doppler would make me more worried. After another episode of spotting I went to the ante-natal unit last Tuesday (EPU stops at 12 weeks here). They checked BP and urine and found baby's heartbeat so that was ok. No scan as bleeding was pretty much stopped. I was ok for a couple of days but now I'm back to worrying again! Added to the general worry of whether the baby is still ok is whether it is growing properly. I have a small bump but don't really need maternity clothes yet, wearing a pair of size 16 jeans today and they're too big. My usual 14's are ok if I leave them unbuttoned. No idea what's normal.
Have my 16 wk appointment with MW tomorrow (will be 16+4) so hoping to hear heartbeat again and mildly panicking it won't be there or she won't do it.

Welcome to new joiners - as you'll see from my post I'll worry about anything and everything. But that is what is good about this thread is that people will always understand and try to help. To those with fewer symptoms - I only had nausea and wasn't sick once. Boobs sore on and off, but tiredness is my main symptom. Also many people don't have any symptoms. A girl I know didn't find out until she was 5 months. She had no symptoms and had drunk and smoked. Her baby was fine.

Alb1 · 03/02/2014 16:45

Again it's nice to see new people joining all the time! Hope everything goes well for u all.

Has anyone used a fetal doppler in early pregnancy? I bought one for later one but read online that they often work from 8 week, but I'm now 10 weeks n still no luck, I'm not panicking cos I only had a scan last week n I got the doppler the day after so even with my crazy paranoia I no the chances of something going wrong that quickly after a good scan are pretty slim, I'm jus wondering if anyone's used them how long it took to find a heartbeat? An if I shud be putting it away for another few weeks and stop obsessing lol
