Hey noks you can do it! Or look at it this way - that baby is coming out very soon "via the gift shop" (thanks shazza!) or the tradesman's entrance, but he or she will be here. Back to back is tough though, I had that with DS. First babies are just so slow ( unless you are a phenomenon, like keep:-)). I'll be thinking of you today.

Ginestas · 11/01/2014 11:49

Go noks! The long haul is knackering but you will get there and can always up your drugs if you need to. Have you had gas and air yet? They told me coedine was more affective, yeah right. I much preferred being high... Ginster was back to back to start but moved as I got more dilated, so the nipper may well yet. Luckily the epidural meant I couldn't feel most contractions, but the one I did feel in my back fecking hurt so you have my sympathies. This time tomorrow you will have the gorgeous nipper in your arms!

Waves to everyone else. Another shite nights sleep chez gin. Whilst up in the night and surfing MN I came across the war you started mrshy on the sleep Fred! Scary stuff!

Ginestas · 11/01/2014 12:11

Oh and I think we are getting some genuine smiles :) :) She smiled at herself in the mirror yesterday (obvs wondering who the gorgeous baby is) and then smiled at me this morning. It's moments like this that make all the shitty sleepless nights worth it!

SweetieTime · 11/01/2014 13:16

Noks hope things get moving very soon. Get all the drugs you can, not sure MrsH would be allowed in with a horse but it would be amusing to see her try. Hope Nipper turns and pops out before you know it.

Gin it is so lovely when you get a smile, even if it is wind!!!

MrsH have you been stirring things up on another thread? I try to stay in the safe confines of threads I know.

Shazzamattazzerly · 11/01/2014 14:31

Go Noks!! Another one with a back to back baby. All my contractions were in my back. I managed with the TENS for the first bit before the epi. Then again when the epi wore off one side. So exciting that you are underway and the nipper will be here by the end of the weekend. Don't worry about the breaking of the waters either. I had visions if then coming at me with a crochet hook but again it was very simple and I didn't feel it. You do feel like you are wetting yourself as the liquid flows out though Smile. Thinking of you.

Expat I LOVE the Miami Vice ref. gosh I used to fancy Don Johnson.

Dildals fair enough about the ww app I trust your judgement. It's my own that I'm not trusting so much. I'm worried I'm missing some developmental stage that I should be helping her with.

Fairy I like the via the gift shop ref!

Onion hope you got the lie in this morning.

Gin sorry you had a difficult night. The smiles make it worthwhile though.

My cold kept me up but hopefully that's the worst of it past. Shazlett had a runny nose this morning and her chest is rattling abit as she breathes. This morning we had 2 attempts at her napping in the basket resulting in 2 periods of contented thumb sucking and hair twiddling but no sleeping. In the end I put her in the sling cause she had already missed 2 post feed naps.

Have a good day everyone.

Shazzamattazzerly · 11/01/2014 15:30

Sweets I also don't venture into other threads. I'm intrigued at MrsH starting a punch up though Wink.

MrsHY1 · 11/01/2014 17:59

In haste because minime is about to erupt... I started a thread in the feeding or sleeping section (can't remember which one) and it ended up kicking off a war between one poster who advised I follow her lead and top up with baby rice (at 5 wks!) which as you can imagine raised a few eyebrows :)
I rarely stray from this thread (feel a bit like I've cheated on you!) but I remember that being a desperate feeling morning...!

OP posts:
OnionRing · 11/01/2014 18:32

Bloody hell! Baby rice at 5 weeks? I think I'll go and join the fight.

Noks it will be over soon one way it another. You sound like you're being a brave girl (but for gods sake get an epidural!)

mrshy your scoring of horses made me laugh. Sorry about the bad nights but at 5 weeks anything goes, it will pass. Not very helpful I know. I generally found things got a bit better at 6 weeks then better again at 12 weeks.

I got my lie in but couldn't sleep so instead fretted about what I would do if neither girl leaves home and I also have to take in an aged parent. This left me getting worked up about a loft conversion. I told DH later on and he was like 'wtf are you worrying about THAT now?!' I had to admit it was a bit bizarre.

fairypangolin · 11/01/2014 19:17

Baby rice at 5 weeks? Crazy! My mum has a child rearing book from the early 70s which advises steak and orange juice by 4 months for the iron and vit c. I can't imagine how hard that would be on a poor little baby's digestion and can you imagine the nappies? It would stink worse than an elderly cat's litter tray.

ExpatAl · 11/01/2014 20:19

I couldn't resist having a sneaky look too.

I hesitate sharing ths incase you all hunt me down (and not to give me a cuddle) but we didn't have such a great night last night. M woke up pretty much every four hours and roared. She seemed starving hungry. Dr G says that this can happen when they hit a big milestone such as rolling over so I guess it fits. She's down and fast asleep at the moment, so fingers crossed tonight will be better.

Go Noks! Can't wait for news

Lol, Onion!

Sharon, thought you might find this link helpful kellymom.com/bf/normal/growth-spurts/

ceara · 11/01/2014 20:32

Looking in to cheer noks on. I hope the baby turned to a more favourable position quickly, or you got the good drugs and plenty of them. Thinking of you and the nipper rascal.

shazz going back after 9 months full time rather than 12 months part time is what I'm currently having to look at but it's a long way ahead, things may change with both our situations. Moving up a babygro size must be a mini-miestone. Re the HV, I met mine last week and was quite perturbed by their definition of PND, which seems very tick-box list-of-symptoms based (they're not mental health professionals after all) and pathologises a whole lot of normal emotional responses as "depression", so will catch a lot of people who aren't actually depressed in the clinical sense at all in order to to be sure not to miss the ones who are. So they are probably being over-cautious with you. However, if talking to someone is on offer, you might as well meet with them.

There seems to have been amazingly good nights sleep had by many thread babies, and some amazingly bad ones - MrsHY I hope Missy lets you get some rest very soon.

gin yay to good weight gain, age-inappropriate TV and helpful mums.

sweetie I'm sorry to hear you are still going through the mill with your eyesight. Anything to do with eyes is really scary but hopefully you will get a speedy referral to a consultant opthalmologist if you need one after 6 weeks. I would take the optician's comments with a very large pinch of salt and wait to see what the specialist has to say.
Intersting that your boy is the shorter and wider of the twins. From the scans and midwife's predictions (all wrong I'm sure) mine is going to be long and wide in body and shorter of leg but I think that's more that the poor little mite has got DH's proportions rather than a gender thing!

The slings recommendations are really interesting. I really wanted to get a sling but haven't known what to do for the best, especially with the c-section. Can I be nosy and ask when you were able to start using them post-section?

onion NOOOOOoooo! Don't tell me lightening is a myth, I have been hanging on for that happening! So I am trying for now to force down the maize-based snacks little and often, as recommended, but I am an amateur next to DH so I'm still missing out, dammit. I shouldn't complain though as I have got off very lightly apart from the heartburn.

Yes my bag is (almost) packed now, as is the baby's which is starting to look bigger than mine! We haven't put the cot together yet but I have at least brought it into the house now, which is progress in overcoming my don't-tempt-fate inertia denial, and all the baby bits we'd ordered or E-bayed have arrived apart from the pram/pushcair (which is on its way). And I think I have made enough healthy meals for the freezer, next up is the important stuff - cake :-)

buzzy how are you, Barry, the cat and the bump doing? Did your placenta move up yet or are you heading for a section too?

motor hope you are OK also. Wow, third trimester already.

crisps Nancy and all of you are in my thoughts.

Hi to everyone else.

keepitgoing · 12/01/2014 09:28

epic nap fail. after yesterday spending ages trying to get her to nap in the basket she had had 2x25 mins there and an hour in the pram. exhausted by 5 but couldn't sleep. slept 6-12, except a feed, then wouldn't settle in the cot which she usually does fine at night, so 2am brought her in our bed. oh god have I fucked up all that was working.

OnionRing · 12/01/2014 09:38

ceara I was recommended a mei tai due to having a section, it was fine.

noks hope you're ok and full of drugs.

gin I couldn't find your other thread, I wanted some entertainment.

Ringlet slept from 8pm until 6am last night! Ok so she was only in her cot for an hour of it as she cried at 9pm and as I was going to bed then I took her in with me. But this is still a major first!

Dildals · 12/01/2014 09:53

I found Kellymom quite a good site for advice, albeit a little bit on the attachment parenting side.

Shaz I know what you mean. I think we all wonder whether we should be stimulating our babies more/less, whether they are slow or behind (or super smart).

We worry about this because we love them and want to give them the best start. The emails from babycentre where quite good, you can sign up to them and they tell you about baby's development, growth spurts and games you can play with baby.

mrsH speak for yourself! I wouldn't have a clue how to score a horse around here, I think I would have to go to Brixton. I can score some jerk chicken, hair weaves and plaintain down here, not sure how useful in childbirth.

ExpatAl · 12/01/2014 10:36

Ceara, a planned CS is easier to recover from than one after a crappy extended labour. I was up and walking the next day and it got progressively better quickly. Take prunes or dried apricots and plenty of water to help get your system going again. I used the tricot but didn't get on with it and had more success with the manduca (you can see lots of info on YouTube). I was using one from about 2 weeks for small walks and slowly built up. Keep it slow and don't push yourself.

Go Ringlet! That's quite a jump. Long may it continue!

I saw the kellymom info on MrsH's bust up. Only read the growth spurt info so didn't notice anything. I only really check up retrospectively, so if I see M doing something new I have a look to see if it's the norm and then emphasise it more. It's how I started with more structured naps.

Shazzamattazzerly · 12/01/2014 10:58

Morning everyone

Noks?????

Ceara well done for all the prep. Can we come to dinner at yours please? All our pre made freezer food has almost run out now and the cake went ages ago Smile. I started using the sling about 4-5 weeks post emcs. Just a couple of times around the house at first for an hour or so and now for at least one nap a day. Then last week we went outside for the first time to the Milk spot about 5 mins away. Before the birth I had planned to use it much earlier and I was upset by the delay but now that we are 7 weeks in and use it regularly I can see that the delay didn't matter to shazlett but I definitely needed to wait for my recovery. My scar is much better now. It really did take 6 weeks and I'm still not allowed to do any exercise except for walking. My advice is to take the advice of the professionals. So exciting that your little boy will be here soon. I love shazlett so much and I envy you the amazing experience of those first precious weeks. I wish I could do it again! You are right about returning to work. So much could change in the coming months. Especially in our situation as DP could sell lots of paintings and he is also looking for a job so if he gets one we will be sorted. I'm exploring selling up and moving out of London so even that might happen in the next 6 months.

Expat I'll cuddle you! Hope you aren't too tired. I also got up an extra time tonight. We had a 3 hour sleep then 2 x 1.5 hours. Her breathing is abit rattlely but doesn't seem to have a cold yet. Fingers crossed.

Onion I half laughed and half understand your far reaching anxiety worries. It is so easy to get lost in imaging future outcomes. However it is highly unlikely that neither of your dd's won't leave home. But do get your loft converted anyway if you fancy an extra room. You could use it for crafting Grin

Fairy I laughed outloud at the steak and oj. I'm a child of the 70's. when my mum says it was different in my day thAnkfully she has never mentioned this. But it's early days!

So what is everyone up to today? My major task for the day is to sort out expressing and sterilising. I don't know why but it seems daunting to start and I'm procrastinating. Hopefully DP will be able to do a feed by tomorrow night.

Can I ask a personal question to those no longer preggers? What have you decided to do re contraception? I know onion has the mirena. At my 6 week appt I discussed it with the GP. Before being preggers i didn't want hormonal contraception and we used condoms obviously until we were TTC. But now we dont like the idea of going back to condoms. Tbh I fear we would get lazy and not bother one time and then what might happen?! But like Keep I also didn't feel able to commit to long term mirena or implant. I am pretty sure we aren't going to have another. I'm too old, it took long enough to get this one and im so grateful I don't wAnt to push my luck but mostly we simply can't afford another. However I don't feel able to discount it completely. So the ho ended up giving me a prescription for the mini pill a you can take that whilst BFing. Anyone had any experience of this? She said that the bleeding could be irregular.

Have a good Sunday.

ExpatAl · 12/01/2014 11:06

I really envy you your tiny newborn too Ceara. It will be wonderful

Shazzamattazzerly · 12/01/2014 11:10

Took me so long to write last post we cross posted.

Thanks for the link expat. I'll have a look.

Onion woohoo for epic sleep.

Poor Keep at the other end of the scale. Don't worry. I doubt you have ruined everything. Keep trying. Mind you I'm a fine one to talk. I resorted to sling naps yesterday when the basket failed

Dildals I get the baby centre emails. I find that site very useful. You are right about wanting to help them as much as poss.

More later. This is left handed posting!

Shazzamattazzerly · 12/01/2014 11:11

Ps what is a horse? Nerdy girl alert Grin

OnionRing · 12/01/2014 11:12

keep it's easily done and I'm sure one night won't set a trend. It's when you've done it every night for nine months it's a major issue. ^^

I actually don't worry too much about the over / under stimulation. One of my sisters worked in child protection and used to tell me of upsetting cases of kids strapped in buggies all day in front of the tv, or left in cots on their own. I think that if you are an interested, committed parent then you are very unlikely to get it that wrong. Actually, my sister said that she advises parents that if they find it hard to chat to their baby then to sing instead.

I like kellymom (apart from the ridiculous name) because she really tries to make sure everything is evidence based. I hadn't noticed it was attachment parenting biased dildals but that's probably because I'm attachment parenting biased myself. Albeit unintentionally... (Ringlet napping on me as I write.)

Round here I could easily score an actual horse ^^ I reckon I could score some ketamine too - they use that for horses don't they?

OnionRing · 12/01/2014 11:13

Slang for heroine shazza.

I think?!

OnionRing · 12/01/2014 11:15

Or heroin even. Bloody autocorrect.

OnionRing · 12/01/2014 11:21

shazz like most things baby related, sterilizing / expressing / bottle feeding seems hideously complex when you first start but within a day or two you'll do it all automatically. Good luck, I hope little N takes a bottle and DP enjoys feeding her.

You know my feelings on selling up and moving! I hope he sells a load of paintings in the meantime though.

OnionRing · 12/01/2014 11:23

I'm starting to look a bit mad now posting to myself like this.
