Hello ladies! Come and find me! Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
keepitgoing · 21/02/2014 18:20

I had planned to move to cloth, but can't be arsed, basically Grin ...

OnionRing · 21/02/2014 20:44

motor as I understand it the risk of still birth is to do with placental deterioration which can be assessed via scan or even heart beat monitoring. I know that some places offer daily monitoring after 40 weeks but to push induction seems very heavy handed and yes, a clumsy 'management' of risk. (It must cost them a fortune too!)

Congratulations caip!

SweetieTime · 21/02/2014 21:48

keep good luck for the house move tomorrow

ceara · 22/02/2014 21:52

motoryaay to mat leave and lots of batch cooking. Slings - I have got a Caboo Close which is working OK for us. It is easy to put on and use and I think a good beginner sling for the early months. Sling libraries are great and a good source of advice.

I'm sorry your consultant appt didn't go well but hopefully you will be supported well when it comes to it. I hope you get the natural birth you want but if you do have a section, they can be calm and positive experiences too.

caip congratulations. On nappies, disposables and eco-guilt here, a few weeks in. My mum is encouraging us to use reusable nappies based on HER experience of the old terry nappies 40 years ago so the opposite of your situation!

Hello, welcome and most of all, congratulations!
What can we call you?? Bugger seems a bit unfriendly!
I had my first proper warm bath last week at 35 weeks.. Not hot enough to make me overheat, but at least not frustratingly tepid as every other bath has been since BFP. As I understand it, the foetus does not have temperature regulation, so it is dangerous if you overheat (go red, feel light-headed etc, rather than just being nicely warm). I have probably been over cautious, but as for you and all of us on here, the road to the BFP has been long and emotionally traumatic, so I guess it is understandable.
Do you have an early scan booked?
How are you feeling in general?

Hi bugger - that sounds wrong. Congratulations, that's a long rocky road you've come in on.

But anyway. Baths, I'm afraid I just didn't have one at all while pregnant as I love them hot and fear them tepid. If you're prone to worry why give yourself more things to worry about? (Unfortunately I've not actually had time for a bath since giving birth but hope to fit one in before the end of Mat leave.)

About the scan. Erm don't worry! No, of course you'll worry but one vaguely comforting thought might be that it is far more likely to be ok than not. Otherwise keep busy and we'll keep fingers crossed for you.

OnionRing · 23/02/2014 19:59

motor I'm amazed you managed a bath at 35 weeks. At 38 weeks a couple of days before my section I got DH to shave my legs on the edge of the bath and it was a farcical event. Thank god I'd long stopped caring about my lady garden.

keepitgoing · 23/02/2014 21:01

bugs I was living in Thailand till 22 weeks so didn't miss hot baths till then. think I had one quite soon after getting home and was in one when my waters broke at 37+1 Smile congratulations Grin Grin sorry you've had a tough road to get here. huge good luck for Friday. have you told any family yet?

bugs congratulations and very best of luck for Friday. Distraction is your friend until then but you know that. Baths are supposed to be fine as long as they're not scalding hot ie not the sort that you have to ease into very gingerly. I think scalding hot baths are the only sort worth having, but I did have warmish baths from 20 weeks until the night before my c section at 39 weeks. I was too nervous to have a bath at all before 20 weeks but rationally I don't think I needed to be. However, always best to be cautious.

keepitgoing · 24/02/2014 08:54

I think that's it. don't do anything that'll make you mental more . you shouldn't feel dizzy etc. I used yo have it fairly shallow so som body parts would be out to cool down.

fertility issues don't define you. you are way more than that. but I know what you mean x

and then you won't have time!! Grin

SweetieTime · 24/02/2014 21:02

I only showered until about 30 weeks and then had luke warm baths. I asked him the nurse at my clinic and she said it is ok in early pregnancy but you can get too hot and dizzy because of blood pressure. I have only once tried a bath since giving birth and this was interrupted by dh shouting me to come down stairs to help with DTs. I did have a couple of baths in the late stages of pregnancy but was worried I would be unable to get out so haf to leave the bathroom door open so dh could hear me shouting if I got stuck and needed rescuing.

MotorcycleMama · 25/02/2014 09:09

bugs I think that it is fine to have hot showers though - I certainly have done all the way through. You are not likely to overheat, as the water is running off you and a good proportion of your bod is exposed. Try to keep distracted between now and Friday, but you are going to be anxious particularly with your history. For my early scans (up until the 20 week one) I refused to look at the screen until DH told me all was ok. I went to each scan convinced all was lost, and it was fine every time. I will have everything crossed for you on Friday.

More advice/recommendations sought from the yoni warrior mummies please, this time re breast pumps. Is it wise to buy one before the baby arrives? Which model would you recommend? I bumped into a friend in mothercare (I was very pleased about this as she is good friends with my ex with whom I got pregnant totally unplanned and went on to have a miscarriage. He was a total bastard and we split very soon after mc, but for some reason I am pleased that he will hear that I am now happily married and heavily pregnant).. Anyway, sorry, she recommended electric pump over manual, having tried both, and in particular the Medela swing. What are your recommendations?

I think I am getting into maternity leave now, with nice plans to meet friends for lunch etc, so much less stressed. I have my stretch and sweeps booked for 2 weeks time so it is all beginning to feel exciting and imminent.

OnionRing · 25/02/2014 12:34

motor ha! to the ex. I have had no real joy with hand pumps at all but really loved my Medela mini electric. I would offer it to you but the motor has worn out. A new motor is £38 (the whole thing new is £70), if you want all the other bits let me know though.

OnionRing · 25/02/2014 12:38

Glad you're less stressed too and can make the most of being off.

I always have very hot showers. I hadn't even thought to mental about that.

I dreaded each and every scan and never looked at a single one. Not even at 32 weeks. I used to loathe and fear the bit where the sonographer is looking but not saying anything. I counted ceiling tiles to stop myself going screaming mad!

motor I am the exception to the rule and can only get on with a manual pump but I think most people tend to prefer electric if pumping with any regularity. Medela seem to be well regarded by parents and professionals. I'm not sure you need to rush to buy a pump though, as colostrum in the first days is best hand expressed (should you need to express any for a sluggish feeder, that is), and if you find you need a pump further down the line, you can easily get one online from places like Kiddicare who offer next day delivery.

bugs, hang in there - not long til Friday. I second the advice about not looking and for early scans particularly, the sonographers do tend to help with that by angling the screen so you can't see much until they've ascertained all is well.

Thanks onion and ceara for the pump feedback.

Insomnia central with me at the moment. I'm having periods of lots of BH contractions, followed by nothing for 24 hours. Period-type pain very low down through this past night. I keep hoping it may be the start of something, but it seems not.

Baby is reportedly head down, but when he gets shrink-wrapped during a BH it feels very much to me that he is transverse. Oh well, what do I know?

I'm looking forward to a long walk into town later to meet fairy and the beautiful minipang over tea and scones.

Love to all yoni warriors and their babies. X

keepitgoing · 26/02/2014 08:24

motor I have a tommy tippee electric pump which is good but I have nothing to compare it with... ooh have fun with fairy! even if it's not the start of thongs quite yet it sounds hopeful you won't go over

MotorcycleMama · 26/02/2014 16:20

Definitely not the start of thongs keep.. More like the beginning of size 16 full briefs! Grin
