Hello ladies! Come and find me! Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
keepitgoing · 11/02/2014 16:48

oh yes, we exchanged today Grin complete next Tuesday Grin

OnionRing · 11/02/2014 19:48

keep must have been a relief to exchange. I still remember the stress of buying this place as if it were yesterday.
Can you scrape off the white in her mouth? If not then that's supposed to show it's thrush. I thought you'd inevitably have it too though and it's supposed to be very painful, deep stabbing pains in the breast etc.

gin your neighbour sounds like a total twat. I'd just ignore her but it depends how good you feel you have to keep relations with her.

chocolocodowninacapulco · 11/02/2014 19:53

I'm here shazza. Your new job idea sounds fab.

keep good news on the house Smile

motor that's good news about minimotor. Only 5 weeks to go, brilliant!

gin that's awful about your neighbour, biatch!

Sorry not to have been on - I had my 12 week scan on Friday and all looking great. I'm 13 weeks tomorrow! Baby was moving about on the scan and was amazing GrinNuchal measurement was 2.3 and should get blood test results in a few weeks if all is fine. 20 week scan booked for 8th April. When did you all start getting bumps? And did any of you have horrendous, dry red itchy rashy skin pretty much all over? I have stopped all the IVF drugs now as of last Thursday, so maybe it's a reaction to that.

SweetieTime · 12/02/2014 08:15

crisps you and your family will be in my thoughts today.

MotorcycleMama · 12/02/2014 09:18

Thinking of you and your family crisps.

keep I'm impressed with the swimming. Were you into keeping fit before having kip? Has she recovered from the jabs and oral thrush?
I didn't agree to not go over 40 weeks, as it has never been presented to me as a choice. I didn't try to make a stand to be allowed to go over 40 weeks either, as they all seem so sure it would be a Bad Thing. What bothered me most was the reluctance to even discuss CS with me, and the inference that I just want to avoid the pain of labour. I'm not afraid of labour pain but I am afraid of being hooked up to a sintocin drip and constant foetal heart monitor without the use of my legs as I have had an epidural to cope with heavily induced labour. I didn't cope with a rather lengthy scan recently as I was laid on my back and couldn't breathe properly which ended up with me having a panic attack (not usual for me!)
I can only pray that I have a spontaneous labour before 40 weeks, or that the consultant in charge of my induction is willing to have a conversation with me and consider CS if nothing is progressing.

onion I think a fright might do it for me too, though hard to plan for! I ended up in the emergency clinic at the delivery suite at about 27 weeks after witnessing a car crash. The adrenalin surge gave me a severe bout of Braxton Hicks.

gin your neighbour sounds like a real nightmare, and I imagine difficult to reason with. Any prospect of a move for her or you (not that you should have to or would want to at this point!)

Hooray for the 12 week scan choco - a real milestone! I didn't get a bump until about 22 weeks, and even then most people said they couldn't tell I was pregnant until about 30 weeks. It varies massively. I never got a rash - best get that checked with GP.

New career ideas sound very exciting shazza. Are you am further forward with the moving plans?

OnionRing · 12/02/2014 20:54

Motor I wrote a huge post and lost it but in short: speak to a consultant and be tenacious!

Shazzamattazzerly · 13/02/2014 06:20

Hello ladies

Am up for 2nd time tonight. I made the school girl error of letting shazlett sleep from 6.00-9.30 yesterday evening. It was convenient and I'd passed the moment of waking her. But she hasn't slept well tonight and I wonder if it is as result of that.

Motor I understand your fears re induction. I had them also. Of course in the end it all went out the window cause shazlett got stuck and that's why things didn't progress and I had to have the induction followed by emcs. In the end it wasn't so bad for me but I still regret all the drugs that would have made it into shazlett. That said she is a lovely calm baby so hopefully the hypnobirthing practice that I did might have helped her in utero and with her exit. So try to stay as relaxed and calm with good breathing techniques as much as possible. And remember that you are in control. Ask questions throughout and don't be bullied into a procedure before they have told you all the facts and explained why they are suggesting it.

Choco so lovely to hear from you. Well done for the scan. Such a milestone. I think I started to get a bump at about 4 months. I was wearing pregnancy dresses by then. I got a couple of dresses on eBay and got a pair of cheap jeans in the mamas and papas sale. Also new look do mat leggings 2 pairs for £15. They aren't the best quality but they have seen me through and I'm still wearing them everyday now. I've got 4 pairs and 11 weeks post birth that's all I'm wearing. Well with dresses over the top of course!

Onion definitely rest not DIY although the promise of a utility room would also be strong for me too Smile. I'm at the stage of looking into how much 2 artists can borrow (hmm not much) and trying to find a house that we like that is affordable. I could do all the training but then I'd have to pay licences to lazy daisy and baby/toddlercalm. And I don't think I'd want to work enough to make them both pay. It would be more interesting for me to offer a wider more varied range though which is why I'm leaning towards hypnobirthing alongside baby/toddler calm. However the ld lady is so nice and supportive and you are very supported by the franchise so it is attractive. Luckily she has given me another week to decide and is holding the postcodes and training place for me.

Gin I've already told you this in RL but your neighbour is out of order. Do not apologise this time. I suggest that we hold the nipper and get Noks to sort her out Wink. The baby group was hilarious. The woman taking the class is eccentric to say the least. We had such a laugh trying to baby sign and sing songs that we didn't know the tune too. She kept telling us off for getting it wrong!

Keep congrats on the house. So exciting. So you will be moving soon? DP said that shazlett jumped with the first jab and made a face but then screamed when they went In for the second one.

Crisps you are an inspiration. I'm glad yesterday was peaceful and you were surrounded by family and friends. NNL was loved so much by all who knew her including. We are here for you.

Hello to everyone else. Hope you are all ok.

I've got RSI in my left hand. I'm trying to carry shazlett in a different way but it's hard because it is my natural impulse to pick her up in a certain way. It is pretty painful though. What is the treatment for RSI? Any ideas?

Well I'd better try to go back to sleep. I put shazlett down ages ago!

OnionRing · 13/02/2014 10:12

Hope you got back to sleep. Ringlet got up at 5 this morning. Bleurgh. She's fast asleep now and I have a friend coming for lunch so I'm letting her sleep so that she only needs a short nap this afternoon.

At my GP they do both jabs simultaneously so there's only one pain. It's horrible but it is for the best way.

I don't imagine it's that easy getting a mortgage if you're an artist. Can you use one of your parents as a guarantor? I did that once, it was very helpful and didn't cost much.

I forgot about the licensing fees. I suppose you won't know how much you need to work until you know what your mortgage will be. Frustrating.

Excellent scan news choco. I got a bump on about week 16 with my first pregnancy and about week 6 with my last. When I found out I immediately couldn't fasten my jeans.

My utility room is ace. It used to have three feeble shelves in it. Now it has eight meters of shelving, a tiled splashback, hooks and racks for the ironing board, airers, mops and brushes and there is nothing propped up in corners waiting to fall over. Hmm, I get a bit too excited over storage solutions.

Hope everyone else is ok.

MotorcycleMama · 13/02/2014 17:37

onion I m very jealous of your utility room - I too get very excited by storage space and domestic order!

Thanks for the wise words re induction shazza. I keep reminding myself that I cannot control the process of birth, but I can control my response to the situations that present themselves, and staying calm is definitely important.

I have decided to discuss with the Supervisor of Midwives, not in a bid to get my way, but because I have had different advice and guidance from each midwife and doctor I have seen, and I would like her to be an arbiter.

Over the past couple of days I have had fairly strong period-type pain, intermittent nausea and (apologies for TMI) loose stools. Can I ask if they would be regarded as standard 3rd trimester symptoms, or should I be bothering my GP to check me out for a bug or infection? On the plus side, I have had 3 reasonable nights sleep!

Love to all. X

fairypangolin · 13/02/2014 19:56

motor those were symptoms I had just before going into labour, esp suddenly being able to sleep quite well! However the bowel action may be due to your dried fruit consumption?

keep my GP said oral thrush was wxtrmely rare but if the meds work then great.

choco great need on the scan! I had a bump by 18 wks of so with my first pregnancy and by about 8 weeks with this one! However the IVF drugs had made me really bloated so that just kind of phased into the bump.

gin I would be livid if I overheard that from my neighbour. My only advice is not to respond because if it becomes a dispute you'll have to declare it if you ever sell the house. Keep a record of when she causes a nuisance though (eg swearing, shouting) in case you have to complain at some point. Is she a council tenant or a housing association tenant? If so you can complain to them but best make that a very last resort.

OnionRing · 13/02/2014 20:04

They can all be signs of imminent labour! But also just general pregnancy unpleasantness. I wouldn't bother going to the doctor unless I had a fever along with any of them. However I Am Not A Doctor so probably best ignore me.

I hope the supervisor is useful but I would caution that she may well be pro induction and anti elective section. I think your best option is for you to firm up what you do and don't want and then try to get that put in place. Eg. 'Natural labour before 40 weeks, but if I get to the point of it being clinically recommended that I am induced then I want an elective section rather than induction.'

keepitgoing · 13/02/2014 20:45

that's what I was thinking motor. gearing up for labour in a couple of weeks we hope

Chico congratulations! I was showing by 20 weeks but could get away with most normal clothes sometimes with zip undone till around then. I'd say I wasn't unequivocally preggers to those who didn't know me till maybe 25 weeks. the bump then really took off - dh took a weekly photo which is lovely, I'd recommend doing it.

keepitgoing · 13/02/2014 20:49

motor she's fine after the jabs, and potential oral thrush isn't bothering her.

but girls she has dreadful skin, after my dh. dry, red, spotty Sad I think it's a number of things - eczema, cradle cap, baby acne and soreness in her rolls of fat (Grin love them) I can't tell what's what or what cream to put where or if it could also be an allergy to a supposed solution. going to gp on Monday.

Shazzamattazzerly · 14/02/2014 09:27

Oh keep poor kip. I would try to keep creams as natural and organic as poss. I know they are expensive but much better I think than anything like Johnson's. I'm guessing it's beyond the putting breast milk on it stage ?

Onion I'm so jealous of your utility room. Sounds amazing. I've found a house I like and my parents are going to look at it for us on Monday. Trouble is that 6 other people are going before then and we still don't have a mortgage in place so it's abit early really but it looks so nice on the net.

Motor good to get a second opinion. Very exciting if these are pre labour symptoms. Grin

I'm running around today. Going to kings for the follow up of perinatal assessment. I feel ok so I think this will be the last appt. DP and I are going to the local pizzeria tonight and taking shazlett. She hasn't been in a restaurant before. I'm going to pop her in the sling and she can doze in there while we have a pizza.

OnionRing · 15/02/2014 08:37

shazza hope you enjoyed your meal out. It's hugely frustrating knowing you want to move and seeing perfect house be snapped up because you're not ready to buy. We were horrendously lucky in that we viewed this house before ours had even been offered on and fell in love with it. We kept telling ourselves it would be long gone by the time we were ready to offer but it was still here. Trouble is there's far fewer people up here than down south so stuff stays on the market for ages. You will find something great though, it very useful to observe the market for a while first anyway.

keep, skin care is my favourite subject! We suffer from dry skin, eczema and cradle cap in this household and these are my cures. I try to avoid parabans etc but sometimes it's unavoidable. Aveeno isn't as pure as I'd like but it's marvellous stuff.

Eczema and general dry skin is kept at bay on me and both girls by using Aveeno oatmeal cream, daily for Ringlet, weekly for DD1. I occasionally give them oat meal baths by putting a handful of porridge oats in an old sock (use an elastic band to seal it!) and putting it in the bath water. To wash them I use Weleda baby wash which is very mild and has no nasty ingredients.

I don't know about baby acne, it's hormonal isn't it?

Sore creases need washing with plain water twice a day, drying thoroughly and then applying a thin layer of sudocreme usually sorts them out. (When the baby is more mobile they are less chubby and this problem stops.)

For more stubborn dry skin I use Waitrose Baby Bottom Butter. This is about £3 a tub and is a gorgeous thick olive oil cream. We have about three tubs on the go at any one time. I use it on Ringlets bum as a barrier cream at night, I use it on her face at night too especially if she is chapped from dribbling. It's like Vaseline but absolutely no nasties and smells lovely. It would be my Desert Island Discs luxury.

To remove cradle cap get Bottom Butter cream and rub it into the scalp in a thick layer. Leave it for half an hour and then you can easily scrape the cradle cap off with your nail. Very satisfying! I did this with both of mine just the once and it never came back. They will lose a bit of hair through this process but it's worth it for a clear scalp. Also mine were pretty bald at this stage anyway. You will need to use a shampoo on the hair after doing this but a tiny dot of baby shampoo will do. After you've got rid of it brush the baby's head every day, even if they're bald, as this will gently exfoliate the scalp and help stop it coming back.

I sometimes use olive oil as an all over moisturiser for them too but it's not as good as my Aveeno / Bottom Butter combo.

I don't buy specific skin care for myself anymore. I use Aveeno as a day cream and at night I use avocado or almond oil (100mls lasts me a year!) and Bottom Butter as an eye cream. My skin is no different from when I used to spend £££s on anti ageing moisturisers etc.

Hope some of this is useful!

Going to my parents today. Ringlet is not feverish but had a restless night and is very fretful and demanding but we're having a small family gathering so there'll be others there to help walk her around and I DON'T HAVE TO COOK FOR TWO DAYS!

Hope everyone else is well.

keepitgoing · 15/02/2014 20:16

thanks onion anything is worth a try poor little love. she was v tired this afternoon after poor napping today, in bed before 7. so that'll be an early morning... how's ringlet?

OnionRing · 15/02/2014 21:35

Ringlet has just stayed up until 9.20 while I drank wine and chatted to my parents and sister like a normal person. I hope she'll sleep all night now...

Shazzamattazzerly · 16/02/2014 03:37

Onion how do you know this stuff? You are amazing Smile. I'm glad you are having a good weekend at your parents. Did ringlet go to sleep? Last night shazlett slept her best ever 7.5 hours but tonight she's awake after 4.5. Still great. It's not her fault that I faffed around DBD and didn't go to sleep when I should Wink

We had a fabulous family day. No work or job hunting just a few chores , a nice walk, tea and cake whilst choosing houses in a lovely local cafe, TV dinner topped off with a little bit of 'couple time'. It was the best day.

Last nights dinner was also lovely. Shazlett fell asleep after I fed her. That was a tinsy but awkward. An older guy at a nearby table wouldn't stop staring until his wife told him to turn away!

Hope you are all having good weekends.

MotorcycleMama · 16/02/2014 10:09

Morning all.

Sounds like you had a lovely day shazza - to be cherished!

Can I ask whether any of you experienced light bleeding in the last few weeks of pregnancy, and what the cause might be? I noticed some light brown/pink blood when I wiped just now - definitely vaginal, and not a great deal of it. Not mucously. Sort of like pre-period. I have googled but not finding anything much of help. Wondered whether it might be irritated cervix as baby is head down, so maybe walking etc might be causing it. Slightly freaked out, bult don't want to panic. Baby has been plenty active, so think he is ok.

keepitgoing · 16/02/2014 10:43

hi motor. could it be part of your show? I'd call the hospital to ask tbh. a friend had bleeding then was induced but this was at 40+ weeks. am sure it's OK but best to be safe x

MotorcycleMama · 16/02/2014 14:08

Thanks keep, I phoned the hospital and they basically advised to keep an eye on it and contact them if it increases. I don't have any other signs of anything, so I will just keep calm and carry on! I has sharpened my focus a bit though, and I will get my hospital bag packed just in case things progress.

keepitgoing · 16/02/2014 14:41

good motor. hopefully its nothing but youre 36 weeks anyway so it'd be fine. have you stopped work? Smile

MotorcycleMama · 16/02/2014 15:19

3 days to go at work. Hopefully minimotor won't try to enter the world before I've started mat leave and had a chance to get some more things ticked off the to-do list..

SweetieTime · 16/02/2014 17:55

Shazza please PM your email address, I have being asking DH to scan the tummy time sheet for me all of last week. I will make sure he does it tomorrow and get it emailed to you. Gin was it you that would like a copy too? if so please let me know your email address too.

Motor only 3 days to go at work, time will fly and miniMotor will be here before you know it. Make the most of this time to relax, read a magazine, drink warm tea and basically do things you want to do as life will NEVER be the same again. All for the better of course Wink
I would get your hospital bag packed as a bit of spotting could be a sign of an early arrival. Very exciting.

Onion you are a parenting genius, I am not sure how you know all this stuff but you are my oracle on all things baby. I think E has cradle cap in her none existent eyebrows I am not sure what, if anything, to use so close to her eyes. I have been using organic sunflower baby oil on their skin if they have seemed a bit dry which has done the trick up to now. Which Aveeno do you use as I think there is a range, I have had the Skin Relief one before.

We have had a lovely weekend, we even took babies for a walk in their baby carriers for the first time. I was doing the PFB thing and worried the whole time that there was a suffocation risk. Of course we all made it home unscathed.

keepitgoing · 16/02/2014 18:13

3 days!! Grin Grin Grin brilliant.
sweetie glad you had a lovely weekend. so much more fun with dh around I find. though she is a little delight. we have been packing sort of for our move, though we have family descending to help us luckily. we are only moving a couple of miles, having been in rented since coming back from Thailand. we should complete on Tuesday, move next weekend. I have hired cleaners to clean before we move in after my melt down when we moved into this place. means we can just unpack not have to scrub it all first. I'm not that obsessive about cleaning. but someone else's dirt is somehow worse, isn't it?...
