I'm a bit nervous about opening this thread as I've only foundt out I'm pregnant and anything can happen...anyway, due date 1st november, I still cant believe it.....
This is my second baby but I'm even more anxious about this pregnancy than first time round...I'd been wantind a 2nd baby for over a yera now, but dh wanted to wait longer, and now it's happened, but it wasn't planned at all!!!

We're both over the moon though, but trying to contain our happyness just in case....(easier said than done)

anyway, I fell better now, having shared this with you..

off to play with dd1 now!!!

CANT....STOP....EATING!!! HELP!!!!

Mum2Ela · 02/06/2004 07:50

Hi everyone!

Glad you all sound well.

Bronze - hope the test goes well tomorrow. Let us know.

Samcj - I know the feeling! I would eat all day if I could. I have put on a stone already this pregnancy!!

Everything is going well here. Baby moving a lot more now - DH felt it for the first time Friday night just after Friends (which I think cheered him up as he was quite upset!!). We went camping then over the weekend which was cool and DD (21 months) found funny!

Well, I am putting myself down as being 16+3 today, but I am wondering wether this is correct as eidsvold, you say you are 17+ ATM, but you are due the day before me. What am I doing wrong with my dates?! Can't figure it out.

gingernut · 02/06/2004 08:28

When are you due, Mum2Ela? I am 14+6 today, due 25th Nov, so maybe we can work it out for you!

Mum2Ela · 02/06/2004 08:46

gingernut I am due 5th November. Thought I was 16+3 today.

gingernut · 02/06/2004 09:23

Well, that's 20 days before me so I reckon you're 17+5. Maybe someone else can check my maths though.

Mum2Ela · 02/06/2004 09:27

Ha ha!!! Just checked my diary - was 16 weeks last Sunday and so was 17 weeks this sunday! Am very excited now! Don't have to do week 16 at all. Ans still not looking particulary pregnant for 17 weeks!!

PotPourri · 02/06/2004 10:14

Hi all.

I've been out of circulation for a bit. I've decided to stick on this post after all, as well as the December post. Had my booking in appointment today and the midwife was lovely. Am very impressed with West Middlesex hospital so far! And the midwife has said that we should go with my own dates rather than the ultrasound - so new (hopefully final this time) EDD is 1 December. Mysteriously it came out as 2 days later on her system to what the calculations I had done were. I'm not too bothered, just glad to have a date that I feel more comfortable with. So I am 14 weeks today.

Anyone know why you would need to know if you have a low lying placenta? The reason is that I don't want the anomoly scan, but the midwife has said that I need to consider that they wouldn't get to see if the placenta is in a good place. I've not had any bleeding, and from the scan pictures I have I'm sure I can see the placenta going up (i.e. it must be attached to the top). Just need to make a final decision, so I wondered if anyone knew the risks of it being in teh wrong place, and implications if so.

Sickness seems to have just disappeared (I feel rough when tired, but no more in a general sense). And I am eating like a horse! Not put any weight on though, but I guess that will happen in time. I am also getting a bit more energy now. I thought I felt a flutter the night before last when I lay down in bed - it happened twice. Not sure if it was just wind though...

Hope you are all well

eidsvold · 02/06/2004 11:25

hope all goes well for everyone - definitely out of circulation from now - leaving the inlaws and heading off to stay near heathrow tonight and then bye bye UK.

Little concerned about long haul flying after reading all the literature but will jsut take it easy - lotso f fluids - have some fetching flight socks and might even be cheeky enough to ask for an upgrade

HOpe all goes well for everyone over the next couple of weeks until we get our new pc and get sorted.

Mum2ela - I am 18 weeks friday - if that is any help. However have not had a midwife appt or any real antenatal appointments - that is just worked from the scan and my own dates iykwim.

Mum2Ela · 02/06/2004 11:37

eidsvold good luck with the travelling. I think the long haul thing will be fine. Like you say, have a walk about and keep moving. That should do it, also will make the time go quicker. Sending lots of best wishes and we look forward to you being back on MN!

bunny2 · 02/06/2004 13:47

PP, I dont know if a low lying placenta can lead to placenta praevia, it is worth asking your mw about I think.

Eidsvold, def go for the upgrade, they can only say "no". Bon voyage.

Bronze, I had lots of glucose in my wee this morning so was sent off to the hospital for a blood test. If it comes back + then I'll need a glucose tolerance test too. I had one when I was pg with ds, it is quite painless but boring.

Samcj, I CANT STOP EATING EITHER!!!

Mw listened for the hb this morning, it was lovely and strong she said

PotPourri · 02/06/2004 14:45

Cool news Bunny.
Mum2Ela, I bet that was the quickest week of your pregnancy!!
Samcj - now that I have my appetite back I can't stop eating either. I am trying hard to make it healthy things - train the babe from an early age etc, but I can't help goign for crisps, salty things, and fruit alsorts (they are great). Oh well, I will try to get to healthy eating in time for the baby's taste buds developing.

Oh it's all getting so exciting now. I don't think I have ever felt so extremely happy. Actually every emotion is extreme - I cry at Eastenders etc.

How are the bumps developing? Mine is still not showing, but when I eat I get a big pie belly - I think it's because the baby is taking up so much space that there is no where for the other organs to go. Either that or I really am eating too many pies!

Bronze · 02/06/2004 14:56

gingernut now youve confused me
you said you were 14+6 yesterday whereas I thought I was bang on 15 weeks and we're due the same date and thats worked out from my notes. never mind its only a day out and whats the chances of it arriving on time anyway

B

webmum · 02/06/2004 16:42

I have quite a big bump, I reckon I was like tis at 20 weeks with dd and I'm only 18weeks now. Still can't feel any major movements and the flutters are not that frequent either...still 13 days to go before my scan....can't wait

gingernut · 02/06/2004 23:12

Bronze, I was counting from the first day of my last period (which was 19th Feb, a Thursday, so I'm 15 weeks tomorrow). If your dates were calculated using one of those charts or obstetric wheels then they will probably be a day out because of the leap year because your period will have started before the 29th, so your due date should be a day earlier than that indicated by the charts, IFSWIM. Anyway, as you say, due date is only a rough guide.

PotPourri, there was a discussion about whether or not to have the anomaly scan in this previous thread . Low lying placenta and placenta praevia are mentioned. HTH.

eidsvold, good to hear from you. Hope the flight is OK and that you settle in well when you reach Oz.

Well, I have a small bump but it's not as hard as last time so it must be over-indulgence. But I definitely have a pregnant shape, I have already expanded just below the bust. I think people are starting to guess (in fact, I know they are because someone asked me yesterday). I haven't been broadcasting the news yet because of the slapped cheek risk. My blood test results aren't back yet (it's nearly 2 weeks now ) but I am not ill yet and tomorrow is the last day of the incubation period.

bunny and Bronze, hope the glucose tests come out OK.

PotPourri · 03/06/2004 10:54

Gingernut, thanks so much for this link. I missed it first time round. I feel much better having read this. Having researched by myself, and seen other Mumsnetter's experiences I have weighed it all up now and have decided not to have the 20 week scan. I realise I will miss out on seeing my baby, which is a shame, and I also need to raise the alarm asap if I have bleeding (may indivate placenta previa). But I know what I am like - a pure drama queen who would be in such a tizz if there was anything identified that I'm not sure I could cope (and I know I would nothing would make me terminate).

Bunny & Bron, let us know how the glucose tests went. I have one at 28 weeks, so could do with a few pointers.

Bronze · 03/06/2004 13:49

Thanks people I had the test this morning and it was horrible and I still feel icky but at least its over. I now have to wait to see if I get a letter saying if there is a problem, they dont send anything if youre ok which I hate.
I didnt have to stay at the hospial and I didnt have urine tests which some people I know have had I just went in had the blood test drank the drink then went to the park with dh and ds and went and has another blood test two hours later.

gingernut that would explain the day difference they found on my dating scan.

I have no bump in fact i'm still losing weight which i'm sure I'll make up for more when I feel like stuffing my face again

B

bunny2 · 03/06/2004 21:27

Gingernut, it looks like you are ok then . What a relief.

Bronze, hope you dont get recalled. I am still waiting to find out if I need the glucose test done.

I am so huge - people keep asking when I am due so def look pregnant. I must confess I tend to exagerrate how pregnant I am, I look 6 months not 4.

Does anyone else have awful headaches?

bunny2 · 03/06/2004 21:28

PP, I know what you mean. I wish I never had the nuchal fold measurement done. Since then I have worried endlessly about my baby, it has really ruined my pregnancy and I so want to enjoy it. If I ever get pregnant again (doubtful) I wont have any screening done.

gingernut · 03/06/2004 22:20

Yes, bunny, it looks like I am going to be OK. Phew! Maybe I can relax a bit now. I'd still like to get the results though - I'm hoping I'll be immune. Otherwise I'll still be a bit uneasy for the next 5 weeks because I know it's going round the area and ds or any of his little friends could pick it up.

I am getting headaches too. Some days they are quite bad. I often get them when not pg (usually just before a period) and they stopped when I was pg with ds but this time I haven't been so lucky. I have been taking paracetamol when they've been really bad, but just trying to keep it to a minimum.

I think I've got hayfever. I don't think you can take any antihistamines when pg can you? I'm going to have a look to see if there's anything I can use if it gets worse (e.g. nasal sprays), but does anyone have any suggestions?

I went to hospital today to visit a friend who's just had her second baby (by c/s) and I was cuddling the baby when a midwife came along to offer some painkillers. She obviously thought the baby was mine because she started asking me if I needed any! So my bump must be bigger than I thought if it looks big enough to be just post natal!

Samcj · 04/06/2004 08:25

Hi Gingernut, just to say I seem to have awful hayrever too! the kind where you are tempted to chop your nose off your face! Not sure about meds wise, would be best to go to GP I reckon. I know a few years ago I had awful hayfever, no meds seemed to help, and I got some 'hayfever' tea from Neals yard. I had a cup of it every morning and my hayfever was so much better for the day! Not sure if it had nettles in it (i think it did) but nettle tea is supposed to be very good.

hope this helps.
xx

PandaBear · 04/06/2004 09:28

Morning, I too have been suffering with hayfever. I saw my GP last week and he has given me a nasal spray and eye drops. I have to use them at a reduced dose, but it is helping to relieve the symptoms a bit. Hope you are all OK

gingernut · 04/06/2004 09:53

Thanks Samcj. Mine's not really bad, just a bit of an irritation IYSWIM. But I'm used to being able to pop a pill when I get like this. I've been looking around and nothing seems to be considered to be completely safe so I think I'll try to grin and bear it. Some of the older, sedating antihistamines like Piriton are sometimes recommended as are the steroid nasal sprays like Beconase but the manufacturer's statements do not actually say they are safe. There is also a preventative called cromoglycate (sp?). The tea sounds interesting but I'm a bit wary of herbal remedies too - some of those are not safe either . I'll go to my GP if it gets really bad. Hope you can find something that works for you.

PotPourri · 04/06/2004 10:15

A good remedy is to take a spoonful of locally produced honey in the morning. It's something to do with building up a tolerance to the pollen (has to be quite local honey for that reason). I don't have bad hayfever so not sure if it's the honey that is making things better or not. My dad swears by honey though for catarh (sp?).

bunny2 · 04/06/2004 18:13

gingernut, I've had terrible headaches too and have needed paracetamol at least twice. Must be the hormones though in my current state of paranoia I have wondered if it is a brain tumour!

Samcj · 06/06/2004 21:00

Hi again, on the old hayfever tract, mines been pretty crap over the weekend, got some nettle tea but also found some homeopathic hayfever tablets to take. Apparently the only contraindication to homeopathic medicines is lactate intolerance, so safe I was told during pregnancy. Anyway I'm giving it a go, let you know how I get on!! Know what you mean gingernut I normally just go and buy a packet of anithistimines and forget about it!! Anyway, good luck to everyone suffering and wish me luck with controlling the snot!!
