WhatWillSantaBring · 01/01/2014 12:49

Happy new year to everyone... And here's to 2014 babies!

Still not a dicky bird here. I thought I was having twinges last night (went out for NYE) but it was just me needing a big poo Blush. Urgh! I'm actually feeling a bit meh about slipping into to 2014. I know it won't make a difference in the long term, but as both my previous due dates were in 2013, it was a really big deal to have had a 2013 due date. Sorry- just uncomfy and fed up (and still shitting myself at doing it all again!)

MissMedusa · 01/01/2014 13:18

Welcome sarah. Do you mind if I ask about your 6yo? I'm at risk to deliver very prematurely due to an incompetent cervix so am particularly interested in hearing other people's stories.

fod27 · 01/01/2014 16:02

pixie it may be induction or c section :0 I usually have big babies DS 8lb 9 and then DD was 9lb 4 plus all the ladies in the family have bigger babies the more they have.... I already look 9 months preggars!! Scary stuff really

Sarah2013mum · 01/01/2014 18:57

Yes that's fine. I went into labour at 28 weeks with my daughter. No accidents or falls, no cervix issues I knew of, went hospital at 12 pm having contractions and was left in side room until 4 pm , apparently I was being dramatic and having BH :/ swabbed at half 4 and rushed to labour ward where they tried everything they could to stop the labour but I knew it was too late. Mischa was born at half 6 that day weighing 2lb 6 , straightforward labour really and she was took to nicu straightaway.
Then followed a 14 week blur of her getting well enough for home :) that was the best day of my life ! Smile

She does have quite big issues medically now but she's the bravest child I know,

You must be very worried and I can totally understand that as it was very surreal but the staff on nicu were fantastic! And we just took one day at a time,
The best advice I can give is to ring or go to labour ward at any worry or if you even feel slightly concerned that labour could be imminent. They can successfully stop preterm labour in cases but for me they left me too long.

Is there a possibility or having a stitch put in?

Sending best wishes ! Xx

Sarah2013mum · 01/01/2014 19:07

Just wanted to add, as I re read what I wrote and didn't want to make you feel any more scared, I really hope I didn't :/ !
While it was a difficult time and a big shock for us all, we were really made to feel part of each day with mischa, and while I could nt hold her for a while we could touch her and everything what was happening was explained to us each day. We felt very involved with her care and we are forever grateful to all the staff. Yes it wasn't that we had a baby that we could take home straight away but we were very grateful to know that sooner or later we would :) xx

alyant79 · 01/01/2014 21:12

Happy new year all!
Welcome Sarah.

Great news about your scan kat, and fod, eek about having a big one!
I've got my early scan today. Should be 6+7 but maybe a little bit earlier due to late ovulation. Feeling very nervous!
Apart from extreme tiredness not many other symptoms to speak of - worried is an understatement.

fod27 · 01/01/2014 21:16

Oooo how exciting and stressful at the same time aly how did the scan go?

banana87 · 01/01/2014 22:50
alicebear · 01/01/2014 23:04

Good luck aly hope all is well & you're settling in after the big move.

Pixielady83 · 01/01/2014 23:13

welcome banana a line is definitely a line, what a great start to the new year for you Smile hope all goes smoothly.

fod sounds a bit scary but at least they will monitor you carefully now. One of my friends was allowed to go overdue and not monitored properly despite having a 10 lb baby first time so her second baby came in at a whooping 11lb Shock much better to have things picked up early on.

Family have now departed and I'm breathing a sigh of relief. I haven't really enjoyed the festivities for myself this year when usually I love Christmas and New Year Sad obviously it has been magical to see it through DD's eyes but I just feel like I lurched between family bickerings and wish we had had it on our own! I really hope it is just because I'm feeling pregnant, grumpy and overly sensitive and not just because I wasn't allowed to drink enough to numb the pain fingers crossed next year is a bit easier! MIL left today with a final stress because she doesn't know when the baby will arrive and when she will be allowed to visit us. Funnily enough we also have to cope with the uncertainty of not knowing when the baby will arrive and we are doing just fine! I'm not sure what she wanted us to say really, offer to book it in on a certain date to fit in around her diary?! Hmm

santa sorry you're still waiting. It must be so frustrating Thanks hope things start happening soon.

fod27 · 02/01/2014 01:20

Totally agree pixie hopefully all will be ok on the day x

alyant79 · 02/01/2014 05:25

Scan went ok. I thought I was about 6+5 but given we've moved across the world and ahead in time zones, actually only 6+4. Baby measured 6+2 with a very strong heartbeat. I'm very nervous that its a little bit small. The ultrasound lady wasn't at all concerned about the date discrepancy so I'll try not to worry... Easier said than done!
It's good news at least that there is something there for now and it's not another anembryonic one. Phew!

Pixie I'm sorry you were a bit stressed over Xmas/new years. Hope you can put your feet up now for a bit.

BirdsDoIt · 02/01/2014 09:19

Happy new year everyone, hope you're all doing ok. Like pixie I am now thoroughly looking forward to a bit of anti social time after 10 days with my family and in-laws, lovely though it was. Sadly a large team of builders is now about to descend on the house and I'm ordering a new kitchen today EEK so it may not be that peaceful!

Welcome to banana and sarah and any other newbies I've missed - and congratulations!

kat so glad your scan went well - your post made me well up a bit xxx and saggy yours made me laugh out loud!

kjh hope your DH either managed to fix the kitchen sink or take you out for a nice meal (or order in a nice takeaway.)

aly also really good to hear your scan went well - don't stress about a two/three day discrepancy at all - I had exactly the same at 8 week scan, and it really bothered me, but it didn't worry the sonographer (or DH :-)) - I think it's really common for dates to be out by a few days either because it's hard to date accurately at 6 weeks-ish or because ovulation is a little earlier or later than you thought. At 12 wk scan they'll give you a more accurate dd. Hurrah today you are pregnant!

Pixielady83 · 02/01/2014 10:37

Aly that's fab news about the scan. I was 3 or 4 days behind where I thought I should be at my first scan for this one which I really panicked about and took as a bad sign but at the next scan they moved me back forward by 3 days again so I think it just reflects the fact that babies probably grow in fits and spurts and it's not an exact art. Hope you're settling back ok.

Good luck with all the house changes birds sounds exciting!!

WhatWillSantaBring · 02/01/2014 12:58

Fab news aly - dates sound absolutely fine, to be honest. Even if you know when you ovulated, it can still have several days discrepancy apparently, depending on how long it took to implant?

Welcome banana - we will let you sit quietly at the back till you feel brave enough. Just don't keep testing, or you'll have to face the wrath of saggy.

birds - yessss! I'm glad there's another barking mad woman planning a new kitchen just as she's having a baby. I think either kat or kjh is in the same boat. Ours is now massively behind schedule- kitchen should be going in next week, but we haven't even got a roof on the extension yet, so got another 2 months to go Sad

So, MW appt was crap today. Couldn't have a sweep as the little bugger has popped out of my pelvis (having been engaged the last two times),and when I questioned the lack of growth, she admitted that as I'd seen a different MW for every appt it was a bit pointless. So I burst into tears in sainsburys - just so frustrated, and nervous that the placenta will fail, and I can't imagine that he's ever coming out. Will be in for an induction on wed/thurs next week.
