merk this sounds really horrible. Has it passed now? I think maybe they need to look into it more quickly if you're this worried.

CatsCantFlyFast · 03/12/2013 15:41

Thinking of you Funky x

Thunderpantsarego · 03/12/2013 15:46

Oh funky - your appointment! Fingers and toes crossed x x x

Foodylicious · 03/12/2013 15:58

kitty re lying on your back its from about 16 weeks - current thoughts are as much about you as baby.
*If you normally sleep on your back, it's safe to continue doing so during the first trimester. But as your uterus (womb) gets heavier in the second trimester, it's best to lie on your side, ideally your left side.

After 16 weeks of pregnancy, sleeping on your back isn't such a good idea. That's because your baby is pressing on the vein that returns blood from your lower body to your heart.

Of course, we all toss and turn during a night's sleep. So if you wake up on your back, try not to worry. Just roll onto your side, and get as comfortable as you can before dropping off again.

It's only if you lie on your back for a long time that the flow of blood to the placenta and your baby could be affected. You may feel faint or dizzy after you have been lying on your back for a while in later pregnancy.

So try to get into the habit of sleeping on your side. Sleeping on your left side is best for your baby, because it helps the flow of blood and nutrients to the placenta. It also helps your kidneys to get rid of waste products and fluids from your body. This in turn helps to reduce swelling in your ankles, feet and hands (oedema).

To get comfortable lying on your left side, bend your knees and place two or more pillows between them. This keeps the pressure off the muscles around your hips and pelvis. Placing a wedge-shaped pillow under your bump in bed can help ease the strain on your back.

You could try using pillows to help prop you onto your left side and to stop you rolling onto your back at night.

Some women find that sleeping propped upright with some pillows helps them to get some rest if they are uncomfortable lying down."

not sure how academically current this in in terms of recent research but seems to reflect what I have found in most places.

Thinking of you funky x x
merk make sure you keep your phone on you all the time, I had to when I had whooping cough a few years ago and would reach stage of being on hands and knees seeing white spots. having my phone to hand made me feel a little better. Hope you get some answers to this soon though - have you had your results? hope you are ok x x

Boomgoestheweasel · 03/12/2013 16:59

Just popping in on a break at work to see if funky had been in...nothing yet?

merk sorry your chest is so bad, is gp going to refer you for anything further?

Back to the grindstone...

CatsCantFlyFast · 03/12/2013 17:12

GP wanted to try the inhaler and get blood results before deciding what to do next week Boom. Thanks to everyone for the sympathy, it really seems pregnancy and me are not compatible Grin
I'm also lurking for news from Funky.

Angelina77 · 03/12/2013 17:41

Sorry it's not improving merk, is there any chance it could be anxiety-related? I developed shortness of breath and had all sorts of tests before it was discovered to be an anxiety disorder (I'd recently lost my Mum and was very stressed at work) and I was having a kind of slow panic attack. Now I know what they feel like I can deal with them calmly but that first one was quite worrying.

CatsCantFlyFast · 03/12/2013 17:45

I would be surprised if it was Angel, I'm a v laid back/never ill type of person and have no particular reason to be anxious. Nothing on my mind that's worrying me so not sure it's that. But it could be, I really have no idea. Would like it to go though!

funkymonk · 03/12/2013 18:07

Sorry merk that you're struggling with things. Is it shortness of breath? I have little advice for anyone beyond 6 weeks I'm afraid. Have missed a lot on this thread. I haven't been visiting too much for fear of tempting fate and having to 'leave'.

So I had the scan and it is ok news. I'm not really sure how I feel about it. I am measuring 5+2 but I know from my ovulation dates that I should be 6+1 (6+3 based on lmp). There was a sac there but she said too early to see anything else. I know implantation could have been later but I got a positive test at 11dpo so it couldn't have taken place much later?? That would mean I got a positive urine test at 2+5. Is that even posssible?? Was relieved that there was something there but am convinced it must have stopped growing. I am going back next Wednesday at 6+2 (according to them) to see if any change. DH is annoyed with me for being negative. He said the sonographer just clicked side to side of the sac so quickly that her measurements may not have been accurate. Any advice anyone??

CatsCantFlyFast · 03/12/2013 18:13

Funky try not to worry, i had the same concerns at my first scan. They dated me 6 days less than what I knew my dates to be and i was worried things weren't developing as quickly as they should be. Implantation can start at different times and take a shorter/longer period of time in each pregnancy. Do you have another scan planned?

funkymonk · 03/12/2013 18:16

Thanks merk for your usual good advice and reassurance. I am going back 11th Dec which is when I had my original early scan. They said I could just keep the same slot.

Thunderpantsarego · 03/12/2013 19:33

Hi funky,

This is such a horrible roller coaster you are riding but it is not bad news and you are another step in the right direction even though it feels like a tiny one. You do whatever you need to to get through each day, next week's scan will come around slowly but steadily. Flowers for you

Brodicea · 03/12/2013 20:22

Good luck for next week funky - sorry you haven't been fully reassured, but I would say listen to merk and hang on in there.
xxx

funkymonk · 03/12/2013 20:32

Thanks brod and thunder. The berries are a lovely bunch of ladies Grin

Boomgoestheweasel · 03/12/2013 20:52

Funky early scans are notoriously inaccurate. My dates changed by nearly a week between my 7wk and 13wk scan. Obviously the smaller the embryo being measured the more it has to be magnified and therefore the greater the margin of error - normally at that gestation they take the measurement three times and then use the mean measurement, which just goes to show that it's more of an educated guess than anything! I'm sorry you're still in limbo but positively, everything is in place for a healthy pregnancy and there's every chance that next time there will be a lovely little heartbeat to prove it xx

funkymonk · 03/12/2013 22:09

Flowers for boom xx

Thunderpantsarego · 04/12/2013 10:21

Ahh that's lovely tally. My bean was kicking hard a week or so ago- so we could both see and feel it from the outside. Think it's shifted now though as I can mostly just feel movement from the inside now. I live feeling it and then really start worrying when I don't feel anything for a while. Guess the anterior placenta doesn't help but I seem to readily think that something is still going to go majorly wrong. I'm a headcase...

Boomgoestheweasel · 04/12/2013 18:59

Wish my beans would move! Have now got the fear before tomorrow's scan. Argh.

CatsCantFlyFast · 04/12/2013 19:01

What time is the scan Boom? All will be fine

Boomgoestheweasel · 04/12/2013 19:20

Not until 1.30, booo!

BlindKitty · 04/12/2013 20:00

funky I think qaz had the same prob and when she went back it was fine. Try not to worry, although I'm sure you will anyway. Also, they've dated us differently each day we've gone for a scan!

merk so sorry to hear this hasn't cleared. Do take it easy though. Re angels suggestion, surely you're anxious about this problem? Perhaps the stress is making it 100 times worse? Is it worry taking some time off work?

foody erm 16 weeks today and currently lay on my back! Oops! Will ask midwife at appointment tomorrow.
