Open to all elderberry grads and anyone who fits the berry criteria: over 30, 1st to early 2nd trimester(ish) with #1 after trying for a loooong time, and nervous as hell. Come on in for handholding and nub theory!

Angel I am a fellow uti/cystitis sufferer, never had it before getting pregnant. I found that by drinking 1.5-2 litres a day of watered down cranberry juice I can at least keep it at bay. Just thought I'd share my coping strategy in the hope it might help someone else. Hope you feel better soon!

Exciting re the scan too!

Brodicea · 04/11/2013 10:13

angel sorry to hear about the UTI! Let us know how the scan goes.

I've come here to rant a bit about my bloomin step mother (although she's so close to my age I usually refer to her as my dad's wife). She's a rep for Juice Plus and has been spamming me ceaselessly about the 'benefits' to pregnant ladies. She sent me an introductory stash of the stuff in the post over the weekend, and has sent me FOUR emails TODAY with links to videos and other crap about it. It's basically snake oil with minimal benefit (claims to cram in some ridiculous amount of fruit and veg into a single tablet..) - if you take it with a normal prenatal vitamin you get waaay too much Vit A which is bad for you, but if you take it instead you miss out on the other shizz in prenatal vits like iron etc. really not sure how to politely tell her I'm not interested - she's like an evangelist about the bloody stuff! I really am tempted to sell the lot on ebay. Grr!

Brodicea · 04/11/2013 10:16

Oh and merk how is the weird liquid this morning?

Angelina77 · 04/11/2013 10:38

Thanks. I'm drinking a lot more water these days but I think it's my bowel movements (or lack of) that's bringing it on. TMI alert: I don't seem to be able to empty my bladder fully when I'm backed up so it sits there festering Blush

The GP gave me a lifetime supply of Fybogel bit it makes me feel sick.

brodicea your SM sounds unbearable, maybe you'll have to pretend to take them just to shut her up.

Brodicea · 04/11/2013 10:50

Angel oh dear, I am a long term pre-pregnancy constipation sufferer. I swear it was linked to my tendency to get thrush too sometimes. I was given Lactulose (I think I had it just as a few drops in a large drink?) when it got really bad, and I think you can take it when preggers so see if your Dr recommends that instead. The other thing that helped was raising my feet while sitting on the loo (little foot stool - fnar), eating loads of brown pasta with lots of water and loads of veggies - but this is all easy to say, when you're feeling sick it can be hard to eat anything 'good'. I followed the advice in Kathryn Marsden's 'Good Gut Healing' which is now referred to in my house as the poo book.

She did offer to pay for them throughout pregnancy (But I suspect then be pressured to become a rep in turn) so I am seriously tempted to just sell them on ebay and make a bit of cash! I'd feel super guilty about that though Confused, I am pissed off about being given the hard sell!

Angelina77 · 04/11/2013 11:02

I definitely need a poo book Grin
Thanks, I'll see about the Lactulose. Diet-wise, all good intentions are out of the window for now, but when I feel better I'll be eating better.

CatsCantFlyFast · 04/11/2013 11:31

News from Qaz??? Sorry to ignore everyone else, v busy at work but worrying at having no update from her

qazxc · 04/11/2013 12:02

Sorry merk the EPU was running v late. The results of scan are inconclusive, there is a yolk sac and it is in the right spot but small for my dates and she couldn't seem to get a proper view of foetal mass. So They are rescanning me in two weeks. So on the plus side the pregnancy might still be viable, and hopefully i just ovulated late which is why we didn't see what we were hoping to see. So i'm still very much in the limbo category.

CatsCantFlyFast · 04/11/2013 12:25

Remind me how far you are Qaz? We're your last mc missed? Poor you, a hellish 2 week wait, how are you feeling? On the positive side it is not bad news, and that can only be a good thing at this stage. Hugs and a hand to hold, everything crossed for this one to hang on and grow x

Brodicea · 04/11/2013 12:50

qaz - just to nip in and second what merkin said - it's not bad news, and 7 weeks is very early. I'm hating the limbo for you though xxxx

Boomgoestheweasel · 04/11/2013 12:59

Oh qaz more limbo, you poor thing! What the others said, early scans are a tricky business. We're here for two weeks of handholding xxx

Merk sorry for failure to respond, am a terrible MN-midwife. (unless I did respond? Can't scroll back now. I probably wrote a response and didn't send it, my usual trick..) Anyway sounds like you are just a prolific producer of vaginal discharge, at least you'll keep the pantyliner folk in business! And no, of course I didn't chuckle at the sperm smell

Brod heh at your poo book. Lactulose is indeed fine in pg, mw or dr should be able to get you a prescription sorted angelina. And I know what you mean about not being able to wee when you're bunged up, definitely a fellow sufferer here! I'd tell your SM that you showed the info to your mw (I will be your midwife for the purposes of not lying) and she said they don't recommend it (we don't). Sorted.

Foodylicious · 04/11/2013 14:06

merk you had any more breathlessness??

qaz fx for you x x

brod you are right not to be drawn into the supplements with your SM. There are so many websites out there claiming to give you genuine information, but they are just marketing websites, not info from published studies. Sadly many people are drawn into them. I had a really lengthy conversation with my brother who lives in Taiwan recently - him and his pg wife have been totally convinced by some stuff they had read about a supplement, with him repeatedly quoting 'facts' at me and saying he had read the same in lots of places. He got quite defensive when I pointed out the flaws in his 'research'!
Had bugger all sleep and being really sick today Sad. Shitting myself about this evenings scan Hmm.

CatsCantFlyFast · 04/11/2013 14:24

foody what time is the scan?

No more breathlessness (or wet knickers) for me today... must be worthy of a celebration!!

Am starting to crap myself about scan on wed though

Foodylicious · 04/11/2013 14:33

Thats good merk! I got really breathless at the supermarket last week, was fine walking round but loading and unloading at the checkout was knackering. I have asthma and this is a different sort of breathless. I then nearly lost it at the Mc donalds in store as they did not do what i wanted 2we only have a limited menu, do you want this, this or this?" she said at 60 mph and I could not take it in, whilst trying to think and not cry, and being breathless she just kept going on and on that she could do me a big mac and way i wanted. I nearly just walked out! DID NOT WANT A BIG MAC!
Anyway had a really disappointing chicken burger that tasted funny, so did the chips and the ketchup Sad.

Scan is at 6pm, in a clinic upstairs in Mothercare of all places.

qazxc · 04/11/2013 14:36

Currently 7 weeks+1
have had 3mc, 2 didn't need intervention, 1 needed an erpc to finish it off.
not nice being in limbo but much nicer than being told it's not viable which what i thought she was going to say when i could see a black hole with nothing in it. Hopefully we'll get to see what we want next time.

qazxc · 04/11/2013 14:38

Good luck for your scan foody!

Boomgoestheweasel · 04/11/2013 15:07

Oh foody your McMeltdown has made me giggle. Sorry. I'm not laughing at you honest

Foodylicious · 04/11/2013 15:31

McMeltdown, I love it! tee hee. I might start using that as a phrase to describe anytime I am about to lose it!

Brodicea · 04/11/2013 16:10

Oh foody that reminds me of this at least you didn't get violent! Good luck with the scan!

I might tell my SM that they give me an upset stomach... still haven't answered her spam emails.

Brodicea · 04/11/2013 16:11

oops

Brodicea · 04/11/2013 16:12

hmm, links not converting: might have to copy and paste it in your browser if you're desperate to see a woman losing it over a lack of McNuggets!

FeatherFeather11 · 04/11/2013 18:23

foody hope scan went well.

qaz gosh, the limbo must be hard. Hand in there and remember that the is every chance all is fine. Flowers

Told our mums today and both started crying. So sweet. Also rang the fertility clinic and they were thrilled to bits! I'm booked in for a 7 week scan in Monday 25 Nov. Already terrified!

Boomgoestheweasel · 04/11/2013 18:57

foody...?

Feather aw mums are so cute. It took mine three attempts to understand what I was saying..'you're expecting? Expecting WHAT?' Glad you've got yourself an early scan, gosh not long to wait then!

CatsCantFlyFast · 04/11/2013 19:30

Foody?

qazxc · 04/11/2013 19:59

Just lurking around to see if foody has come in.
Grin at boom's mum.
