Hi everyone,

This thread is for all you incessant worriers out there, not necessarily limited to IVF-ers, although I get the feeling the people who have had trouble TTC are more prone to worrying than others!

niknoks good to hear from you, I feel like I have been a bear in hibernation due to the drucks, oooh so did you buy a nursery set, posh cow, ours is mainly ikea and second hand ikea at that, our nursery looks like a bomb site full of pads and nappies, I am working on a 10 a day ratio, so I should have enough for the first 6 weeks Grin we'll sort it out over xmas when we sell the exercise machine.

TV is shite although I do like 'homes under the hammer' I have come addicted to AIBU and relationship forums on MN it kind of makes me feel normal Hmm

2 5th engaged means you are on your way to having a babee Grin when was your dd the 28th ??

mrsh oooh we'll try not to bombard you :)

Noks loving your pad arrangements for all leaky eventualities. I too have breast, fanny and bed pads. The bed pads are my fave - tempted to piss myself in the middle of the night to save myself a trip to the loo (currently 4-5 times a night is typical).

Buzzybee123 · 02/12/2013 18:43

are these bed pads the square things ??

OP posts:
keepitgoing · 02/12/2013 18:46

Bed pads?? Is that for waters breaking? Would have to be pretty damn absorbent in my experience!

I don't think engaged means much, I was 4/5 palpable just five days pre speed birth, and think shaz was much more engaged for a long time. But I think it means they won't move position.

gin surely you'd have felt it if she moved back again...

keepitgoing · 02/12/2013 18:47

They did give me a bed pad in hospital post birth, lots of people must leak.

Ooh, I have just about stopped bleeding, thank god. It's like revenge for nine months of no periods...

SweetieTime · 02/12/2013 19:36

Ah the bed pad discussion, this is taking place in our house at the moment too. I have folded a couple of towels under the fitted sheet on my side of the bed when I changed the bed at the weekend. DH wants to get some puppy training pads to protect the mattress too but I am not sure we need these. I also took the electric blanket off so it doesn't get ruined, I will have to go back to a hot water bottle for my cold feet until the birth.

MrsH I am up for a pee at least 5 times a night at the moment too. Does my head in as I cannot get settled and back to sleep once I have been up. I have read bits of the Gina Ford twins book and it is pretty full on with the routine being king. For twins it states half feeding each twin and then back to the other twin IYSWIM, hmm I can see that going down well - not!!

Noks 2/5 engaged sounds like everything is gearing up to happen. I cannot wait to hear the name for Nipper, I quite like Thor in case you are wondering Wink

Gin I am a bit fed up with mat leave TBH. I have wrapped all the Christmas presents, I have made 5 million batch meals and filled the freezer to the top with other convenience food. I haven't written the Christmas cards yet as I want to sign them from the twins names rather than starting them off as being known as "the twins". As we haven't 100% decided on names I cannot do this until they have arrived. I am still having a wobble over girls names.

Shazza hope you are doing well and getting more used to being a Mummy every day. It must be THE most overwhelming experience without having all the hormones thrown in for good measure.

I have been for my 36 week growth scan today and discuss forcible eviction. So both twins are measuring 5lb 5oz and are expected to be about 6lb by the time they are evicted. The eviction (ELCS) is booked for 16th so 2 weeks today OMFG If I go into natural labour before then I have a choice of letting it progress or instigating my ELCS option. I am feeling very happy with this compromise.

Nokkie73 · 02/12/2013 19:54

keep Bed pads are to stop you from leaking fluids all over your nice mattress. Our bed is nicknamed Titan because it is a giant amongst beds weirdos and I would be very annoyed if I were to leak all over it. However, if they do go I think I am deluding myself that what is effectively a big sanitary towel will be of any use at all. Still, if they are utterly hopeless, I can always sew them together and use them as a giant rug.

buzz I am glad you are feeling better and have come out to play again. Thank goodness you have got to the bottom of why you were feeling like utter poop. Onwards and upwards for you now my love. Grin

mrsh I too am Missus Piss Monster during the night. Honestly, I go, hoik-up my massive pants, waddle back to bed, get back into Titan going 'oooohhhhhh' and 'oooohhhaaaaahhhhhhhh' and immediately feel as though I need to go again. Every time I get up and go to the dunny, I think I will piss a world record breaking tsunami of urine but only a little pathetic dribble comes out. EVERY FECKING TIME.

I LUFFS being pregnant, I do. Grin

keepitgoing · 02/12/2013 20:13

Our nct said only something like 10-20% of labours start with waters breaking, so more likely you'll get some notice. Am glad mine went in the bath and car and waiting room. Or even if they went in bed the whole lot prob wouldn't gush out till you stood up, so Titan might be time even so.

sweetie that sounds fab. Two weeks maximum. Eek!

fairypangolin · 02/12/2013 20:15

keep I think if the poo goes dark green or black then you should be a bit concerned. If they are yellow on a whole then it's fine. Today Pangolina decided to follow Bella's lead and had the most massive explo-poo while feeding on my lap. It fountained out of the sides of her nappy, through her vest, sleepsuit, swaddling blanket and into my trousers! She has taken to not going very often but when she does it's Poo-maggedon.

buzzy you really have had a rotten hand with the nausea and feeling so exhausted. Still - it's almost over! Smile

sweetie glad to hear you've got a birth plan sorted and the twins are in good shape. How does Gina Ford propose you can tell that a baby is 'half finished' a feed? Sounds like a prescription for maternal and baby stress if you ask me. However, I totally understand the appeal of the routine.

noks aren't bed pads for after the birth when you are bleeding? I wouldn't have thought waters are that potent when it comes to mattress staining as they don't normally go in a massive gush when you are sleeping (althoguh I am sure some people have had that experience) and they are clear and don't smell bad. Who looks at your mattress anyway? (or am I just a slattern? Grin) The MW brought some for Pangolina's birth and they were amazing at protecting our sofa. You would never be able to tell that I gave birth on it, although I intend to inform every houseguest sitting in the spot, over the tea and scones.

On expressing whilst BFing - keep a lot of people try having DH give the night bottle but I didn't find that it worked. DH was so noisy when he got the bottle and it took so long to do and then get DS settled back down RIGHT NEXT TO ME and I am a light sleeper so actually I ended up just lying there feeling rather impatient and tense until it was over. Expressing so that DH could give him bottles on the day I was at my course though worked fine, although logistically it was a bit tricky sometimes pumping and feeding because you actually have to temporarily have more milk than the baby wants to drink, which is not what nature intended. So you need to not feed for a while and pump as much as you can.

I was 2/5 engaged and then 3/5 (or the other way round, I'm never sure) for about 6 weeks before birth.I understand it means everything is going the way it should but not that the baby is about to appear.

I have been watching Borgen - nothing like a bit of Danish coalition politics to brighten up the winter evenings. And Fleetwood Mac rules in my book. I love that 70s guitar rock anyway. I knew a guy named Thor once but he was not godly at all and did not have a magic hammer, so it was rather disappointing.

keep yay to end of lochia! it is ghastly. I only had it for about 3 weeks this time, with DS it was 6 weeks.

Dildals · 02/12/2013 20:38

can you imagine your waters breaking in the middle of the night and electrocuting yourself with your electrical blanket!? :-)

Dildals · 02/12/2013 20:41

Oh, and my waters went in a massive gush! Our mattress is called Sven btw Noks. Just kidding. It didn't leave a stain.

Buzzybee123 · 02/12/2013 21:02

niknoks I am indeed ready to play Grin, these bed pads are very absorbent not used them for there intended purpose

sweetie glad things are all sorted for you, two weeks isn't long at all, I too am sometimes in a quandry about names and I only have to think of one

fairy it has been a great relief to feel better, I was very worried about how I was going cope, I kind of feel 'normal' in a pregnancy kind of way, work is getting impossible Hmm

OP posts:
SweetieTime · 02/12/2013 21:04

Dildals that is why I have taken our electric blanket off Wink

fairy Gina didn't go into detail how you would know half a feed had been taken. I presumed bottle fed baby but not sure how you would know if bf. sure such strategy would lead to stressed baby & Mum

Nokkie73 · 02/12/2013 22:03

dildals just laughed like a drain at your death by electro-fanjo waters scenario/mattress named Sven. Your mind works in mysterious ways Grin

sweetie you sound as though things are well and truly organised in Sweetie Towers. It's brill that everything is in place now though as I know how anxious you were.

buzz so what did you use the bed pads for. Oh god, on second thoughts, keep that to yourself !

fairy thanks for the reassurance on the engaged thingy. I want the nipper to cook for a bit longer in there. I just love Borgen. I want to say 'tak' and 'hihi' all the time until people hit me in the face with something blunt How disappointing that your mate Thor didn't live-up to his name.

Nokkie73 · 02/12/2013 22:07

keep yeah our ante-natal lady said the same about waters breaking. It's a bit if an urban myth that it's the first sign of labour. Still, I'm taking no chances ! Titan needs protecting. Wink

Buzzybee123 · 02/12/2013 22:13

noks you can look it up on youtube Grin

OP posts:
Nokkie73 · 02/12/2013 22:25

buzz is that in the specialist section ? utter filf, you is. Love it.

OnionRing · 03/12/2013 04:17

Hello ladies.

Bed pad porn? In all seriousness, get a waterproof mattress protector - the toweling topped ones are best and then you can forget about it. I have them on all our beds as then if I take a pukey child into any one on them I know the damage is limited. I'm afraid a soiled mattress is rather unsavoury, even it it were me that soiled it. I don't have a name for my mattress but as it cost me £££ only a year ago I'm very fond of it.

You're all too chatty today, I can't keep up now I've lost my breastfeeding internet sessions.

Don't worry about the occasional green nappy. Ringlets nappies were about 75% green, like pesto, nobody was bothered. (Except me). I like the link you posted fairy. Forgetting about the whole fore hind milk stuff stopped me stressing too much about how long she fed for.

Agreed that expressing is a nice idea but often just not worth the hassle. Saying that, I eventually got dd1 to take a bottle from DH in the evening so I could sleep. He had to keep her downstairs with him though. I must admit the joy of bottle feeding is that DH can do feeds and I've been able to start putting dd1 to bed and doing her stories again. We have a big snuggle and chat before she goes to sleep. It's lovely as I feel I'm reconnecting with her after being consumed by ringlet for so long.

buzzy I'm glad you're feeling better mentally. I bet you can't wait to not be pregnant any more, you poor love.

noks great that the nursery is nearly ready. Poor DP, how's he coping otherwise? I worry!

We are just about ok. She still has at least two bottles a night and tonight she is being very grumbly and demanding so I'm currently under a blanket on the sofa bed in her room letting her sleep on my knee for a bit before once more putting her in the cot. I might get another hours sleep but it feels unlikely at the moment. However, I've had four hours and that is better than it used to be.

I'm eagerly awaiting the next wave of babies...

ANY NEWS?!

MrsHY1 · 04/12/2013 07:58

Morning ladies! Advice needed please...
Woke up about 4am to some period 'tightening' sensations. Nodded back off but was semi conscious of it happening a couple of times again.
Since I got up and out of bed this morning the tightenings are returning in waves- not frequently and no stronger- however ( sorry if tmi) I have also been to the loo for a number 2 a couple of times which seems to have relieved the pressure Grin although hasn't stopped the tightenings.
Do you think this could be the start of something? I sent DH off to work this morning as I'm guessing this could be an entirely false start/ nothing more than a case of diarrhoea but thought I would canvas opinion!! Grin

fairypangolin · 04/12/2013 08:26

Definitely sounds like the start of something but how long who knows! Good luck, so exciting!

keepitgoing · 04/12/2013 09:42

Yes, it sounds like it! How far away is dh work? Good luck, xxx

MrsHY1 · 04/12/2013 09:51

Thanks guys! DH back now. Have lost 'plug' and quite a bit of fluid which I'm guessing is waters. Contractions manageable but fairly frequent! Grin

keepitgoing · 04/12/2013 09:57

If waters break we were told to phone the hospital as they want to check the cord is in an ok position. Grin

Nokkie73 · 04/12/2013 10:03

Oh SQUEEEEEE. Call the Midwife. Hot towels please. mrshy is having her baybee. I shall be checking the news from Downton Abbey (aka Highclere Castle) as we're off there for the day in a mo. Good luck honey !

Buzzybee123 · 04/12/2013 10:09

ooooooh mrsh good luck :)
