Ok so I'm 36+5 - back pain all day on and off but I've been cleaning so thought it was because of that, had a horrible sleep last night seemed to be in a bit of pain... Never thought anything of it though Grin

Anyway my mother comes to mine for take away, DP is out meeting friends, I stand up to go make the cuppas and I feel wet... Go to the bathroom to investigate, pants are wet and so is my jeans, completely clear, and doesn't smell... Called the midwife, she said to put a pad on lay on my left side, and stand up in an hour, then if it is my waters I should experience a "gush" (is this true) and if I do get this gush, I've to go up to determine weather I am in labour or not...

What do you ladies think? Is it my waters? I honestly didn't pee myself Grin

I suppose I'm just a bit nervous that they say it's not my waters and don't check me out, when it could be?

Advice please xx

So are you laying down now? If not, do as you're told! Good luck and if you're at all worried, go and get checked.

Smartiepants79 · 11/10/2013 19:05

Sounds highly likely it is your waters.
If you are worried and want them to check just be very insistent. Make it sound worse than it is if necessary! Grin
They will still probably send you home until contractions become established or its been over 24hrs. There is a risk of infection after this.
Good luck!

Marking place marking place!

DaleyBump · 11/10/2013 19:06

Also, good luck if it is! :)

The gush thing is true. Do as she says. The same thing happened to me at 39 weeks. I found that the initial drips increased fairly quickly to a steady flow. Before the hour of lying down was over it was pretty obvious what was happening.

Good luck!

Mogz · 11/10/2013 19:15

Oooooh goodness, it certainly sounds likely. Now go lie down so you can tell us all in an hour! Grin

PrivatePeaceful · 11/10/2013 19:17

How exciting! Is this your first?

ScottishDiblet · 11/10/2013 19:18

Ooh yes sounds like waters. Good luck!

GreenGiant3 · 11/10/2013 19:25

Dot worry ladies I'm laying down as I wrote GrinWink

This is DC 2 - my first was 8days overdue and got my waters broken for me!

I'm so scared yet exited! DP is on his way home, very panicky, bless, I've told him to drive safe, (luckly he hadn't had a drink before I called him) I'm such a worrier

Xx

TeaAndSconesTwice · 11/10/2013 19:30

Good luck op sounds very promising Grin

mignonette · 11/10/2013 19:31

Good luck. It could be the hind waters as they tend to be less in volume.

Keep us posted!

GreenGiant3 · 11/10/2013 19:33

I've always wanted to do or watch a live birth threadGrin

Oooo I hope this is it, yet I hope it isn't as I still want to do some nesting (decorating) before baby's here Sad Grin

Even if I don't have a "gush" I'm going to go up to triage I think... I wouldn't settle if I didn't Confused

WhispersOfWickedness · 11/10/2013 19:40

Sounds like it could be waters!
Don't hang about if you start getting contractions, my dc2 was born 2 1/2 hours after my waters broke! I was pretty glad that the labour ward was quiet that day and told me to come in and get checked straight away as we wouldn't have made it there otherwise Grin
Good luck! Thanks

Mogz · 11/10/2013 19:42

Best to be safe than sorry OP, if you feel you want to get checked out that's what the nice midwives and nurses a there for Smile

GreenGiant3 · 11/10/2013 19:49

What will they do to check it is my waters? Anyone know? Xx

TeaAndCakeOrDeath · 11/10/2013 19:55

I think an internal exam and look at any pads you're wearing (usually smell it irrc!)

Good luck!

HenriettaPye · 11/10/2013 19:57

Ooo good luck! Keep us updated Smile

Shellywelly1973 · 11/10/2013 19:58

Good luck op!!

Broodzilla · 11/10/2013 19:59

How exciting! They can do a swab, but you can usually tell by the smell. Do you know what position the baby is in?

GreenGiant3 · 11/10/2013 20:01

No the temp midwife at my last appt 3 weeks ago didn't check position!! ShockConfused

It's pretty odourless but I'd say chlorine kind of smell to it? Only way I can describe it? X

OP posts:
PeepingTomcat · 11/10/2013 20:01

They asked me how many pads I'd wetted when I went in (it was several in the short time since it had begun.

monkeyfacegrace · 11/10/2013 20:04

Ha, chlorine. Yep thats waters. They smell of bleach and spunk mixed together!
