Ok so I'm 36+5 - back pain all day on and off but I've been cleaning so thought it was because of that, had a horrible sleep last night seemed to be in a bit of pain... Never thought anything of it though Grin

Anyway my mother comes to mine for take away, DP is out meeting friends, I stand up to go make the cuppas and I feel wet... Go to the bathroom to investigate, pants are wet and so is my jeans, completely clear, and doesn't smell... Called the midwife, she said to put a pad on lay on my left side, and stand up in an hour, then if it is my waters I should experience a "gush" (is this true) and if I do get this gush, I've to go up to determine weather I am in labour or not...

What do you ladies think? Is it my waters? I honestly didn't pee myself Grin

I suppose I'm just a bit nervous that they say it's not my waters and don't check me out, when it could be?

Advice please xx

I think they say waters smell sweet, like hay?!

sittinginthesun · 11/10/2013 20:05

Ds2 was born at 36 plus 5. My waters went, but I stayed at home for a few hours sorting out ds1 and childcare - the midwives were very cross with me, as I was less than 37 weeks!

Are you getting any pains? I started with period type pains a couple of hours after my waters went.

ImThinkingBoutMyDoorbell · 11/10/2013 20:09

I'd say chlorine type smell is about right. My waters broke at 8am in the morning, I had one or two contractions around lunchtime, a few between 6-10pm, but they didn't start in earnest til 4.30 the following morning! So don't be too alarmed if no contractions for a while. They'll come!

The hospital will monitor you pretty closely once it gets to 24 hours and put you on a drip to speed things along if necessary.

Good luck OP. I feel very excited for you. Just reading new Bridget Jones book but this is far more exciting Smilexxx

Tea I think waters smell sweet as well. Almost 'fruity' or slight pear drop ish. Mine smelt exactly like DS3's head (sigh, gorgeous smell ). Proper broody now Shock. Good luck OP! Smile

Ooh exciting, I really want to experience my waters breaking this time, with my son they all came gushing out after him, he had a bath and was the cleanest baby after birth ever I think lol

Good luck if its the real deal x

Writerwannabe83 · 11/10/2013 20:22

How exciting!!!! Good luck!! Smile

FobblyWoof · 11/10/2013 20:26

Keep all pads etc. I didn't and then had to lie down in the assessment unit for a bit to see if it pooled.

They'll check by looking at your pads and usually taking a whiff (what a lovely job!)

Good luck Grin

Green you might not get a gush even if you've been laid down, if baby's head is well engaged it'll be acting a bit like a plug. Hope your DH gets home soon.

GreenGiant3 · 11/10/2013 21:11

We're in triage awaiting to be seen Smile

DC1 came at 36+6.. had a slight leak, thought (in denial) that I'd wet myself, turned out not to be the case when precipitous labour started about 15 minutes later Shock I denied that for a bit as well "I just need to do a really really painful poo, leave me alone" for about 20 minutes until a ridiculously conveniently-timed midwife making a home visit examined me and said I was 7cm..

When she came out, the rest of her waters came with her - I guess it was my hindwaters that had gone the first time! So there was no gushing with me either, but things were definitely wet. She came home with me shortly afterwards in perfect health for the record!

Sounds like things are going at a more sensible pace with you! Lots of luck for whatever happens next!! And I hope you get a delivery suite there soon.. Thanks
