Open to all elderberry grads and anyone who fits the berry criteria: over 30, first trimester(ish) with #1 after trying for a long time, and nervous as hell. Come on in for handholding and nub theory!

I might still buy some anyway as I'm a a sucker for consumerism

Quodlibet · 27/09/2013 15:50

I am using bio-oil only cos my sister gave me an unused bottle, but agree with it leaving you greasy all day! I don't actually think it moisturises that well either - I'm switching to cocoa butter (the olive one smells nicer in my opinion) when this one is finished. I remember someone linking to info that stretchmarks are actually less common in pregnancy if you are a bit older because we have stretched our skin up anyway over many years so maybe all being Primigravidas we will miss out?!

I have got the belly fuzz too.

Thundercatsarego · 27/09/2013 15:56

So it sounds like I not only have a backward baby, a hirsute belly but also Sahara-esque skin that soaks up the bio oil that makes everyone else greasy. Oh man...!

Little note from me about stretch marks...

I read some research when pg that women over 30 giving birth were significantly less likely to get them than women under 25. The opposite of what you'd expect?!

I know genetics count so much, but my mum had me at 23 and had LOADS. I had DS at 38 (13 weeks ago today, aaah) and don't have a single one. Not one. So maybe you'll all be ok. Thought I'd share that to give you all a glimmer of hope!

I used bio oil morning and night from about 14 weeks onwards. No idea if it made a difference but I figured it couldn't do any harm...

janey1234 · 27/09/2013 17:55

Of quod sorry I didn't see that you'd said that already!

CatsCantFlyFast · 27/09/2013 17:56

Bunnygirlie · 27/09/2013 18:22

Just popping in to say hi! Hope you are all well in the copter!

Looks like you may soon be moving to solid ground in the grads room, must be nearly empty if they've all had babies and moved on to parents thread

kitty bring back that Pouffe to Berry HQ, naughty kitty Wink

janey1234 · 27/09/2013 18:54

Bunnygirlie · 27/09/2013 18:59

BelissimaLol · 27/09/2013 18:59

CatsCantFlyFast · 27/09/2013 19:00

I tried the cocoa butter too, its impossible to rub in and equally greasy imo. On the flip side the bio oil is great for use with the doppler

BlindKitty · 27/09/2013 21:17

janey very reassuring!!!! Will defo start the bio-oil at some point!

bunny afraid I needed a reminder, I can't quite let berry hq go just yet!

Cavort · 27/09/2013 22:07

I have very dry skin but unexpectedly didn't get a single stretch mark (age 35) and only used Bio Oil once daily straight after a shower. It probably is purely coincidence and a load of consumerist bollocks but it made me feel better that I was at least trying something, not that I have the kind of washboard stomach that you'd want to show off anyway.

BelissimaLol · 27/09/2013 22:49

I've also not had any stretch marks but still have a very visible linea negraAngry.
Did put bio oil when could be assed and other days I used some cocoa butter. So I don't really think it makes much difference tbh!

MotherOfCleo · 27/09/2013 22:55

I used all the freebee stretch mark stuff I got in the bounty and other various packs, I'm now using body shop strawberry body butter, basically as that is all I really have to hand. I've also only been doing it when skin gets itchy or I remember which is normally 2 or 3 times a week. MW was impressed I didnt have any, esp as bump had grown 5cm in 3 weeks....eeek.

BlindKitty · 28/09/2013 07:09

This is all quite reassuring to know...finally a good reason to having a baby in your 30s!!!

Thundercatsarego · 28/09/2013 09:19

Question for boom with your midwife hat on: I am now 15 weeks and supposedly starting to feel better. Thing is, I feel worse, I've started throwing up every day (was sick only once in the first tri) and have a killer headache most of the time. Is this likely to be the picture for the next 5 months?

MotherOfCleo · 28/09/2013 10:02

Oh no thunder that sucks. I think its hard to predict as everyone is different, worth a trip to the docs though!!! Im afraid my cousin threw up all the way through the 9 months, me and my cousin in-law have been luckier though and haven't had many symptoms at all. Really hope it passes soon for you!! Thanks

BelissimaLol · 28/09/2013 10:34

Thund I never threw up but had monster headaches for the whole second tri which was then replaced by heart burn
I kept taking paracetamol with caffeine and it helped loads.
Maybe do pop into gp and see what they say?

Quodlibet · 28/09/2013 10:56

Thunder maybe a daft question but have you tried altering what you are eating? I found I was sick when my blood sugar dipped (and DP gets headaches when his dips) so maybe you are on a growth spurt and need a more regular supply of slow-release calories (nuts, whole grains etc).

I didn't realise you were 15 weeks already!

BlindKitty · 28/09/2013 11:02

Poor thunder

Thundercatsarego · 28/09/2013 13:04

Thanks ladies. I did wonder about the growth spurt or something that might mean there are more hormones a-flying about? The bean seems to be sucking up a lot more fluid too so that might be attributing to headaches as well as vomiting til my ears hurt

Altering diet- I'm just going with whatever I can handle/fancy. But it is often slow release sensible stuff. Often but not always...

Thundercatsarego · 28/09/2013 13:08

Ps anyone see suburgatory this week? It's about yoni...ha!

Boomgoestheweasel · 28/09/2013 13:38

thunder it could just be the way you react to pregnancy unfortunately Sad almost impossible to know. Do you have a temp? Could be worth ruling out a uti, sometimes they don't have the obvious symptoms but can make you feel pukey and are common in pg? Could always dprop a sample into the surgery to be sure.

Hope you feel better soon though! And paracetamol is fine - take it!
