Open to all elderberry grads and anyone who fits the berry criteria: over 30, first trimester(ish) with #1 after trying for a long time, and nervous as hell. Come on in for handholding and nub theory!

We're the same. We totally disagree!

PoppySeedBun · 07/10/2013 21:11

Hello berries,

Gosh, names discussion? I think you might need to pop over to the proper grads thread for that sort of talk! We are severely limiting our discussion about these sorts of things until we get through 12 wk scan and Harmony results this week.

kat congrats on making it through the 1st trimester!
Feel like I'm nearly there now.

Ugh to Jaffa cakes and fudge - this pregnancy has been rubbish for comfort eating. My normally very sweet tooth has completely deserted me (desserted? Ha!) and I can't stomach any dairy either so the closest I seem to get to indulgence is a jacket potato :(

puppy kitty hang in there - both feeling rubbish and not feeling totally pregnant are completely normal. The last 8 weeks have gone soooo slowly - I would swear I've been in a time warp where they lasted twice as long as normal weeks! I found a really useful tip was to write the days and weeks on my vitamin packets, so it was almost like opening an advent calendar to count down the days.

Right, off to bed for me - so, so tired at the moment that I need to be off by 9:30 at the latest (though, doesn't seem to make any difference to the 3am wake up for a pee). Grin

BlindKitty · 07/10/2013 22:28

Ooh a pregnacare advent calendar!!!!!i like it Grin

Thundercatsarego · 08/10/2013 07:15

What?!! Does it have goodies inside blind?

CatsCantFlyFast · 08/10/2013 08:16

Morning. Have just had a huge meltdown because I have nothing to wear for work. All of my tops either don't reach the top of my trousers and/or make me look huge (which is an issue as whilst they know I am pregnant nobody has specifically asked how pregnant I am... so am trying to minimise how round I look iyswim). I have tried every shirt and smart enough top (including having to iron most of them before trying them on) and even tried some of them twice with different combinations of cardigans and jackets. I literally have nothing except baggy 'weekend' tops which aren't smart enough for work. So i had a crying, snotty, hormonal meltdown on DH and have refused to go in.

So am now working from home. In jogging bottoms. And in desperate need of somewhere that I can order some maternity tops from that a) are smart enough for work (eg. shirts / blouses) b) minimise a bump rather than emphasize it c) don't look like they are something my gran would wear d) will fit despite the fact I am not yet the size of a house e) i can order online (preferably with next day delivery)

Any suggestions to help an irrational hormonal pregnant heffalump with a huge first world problem???

Thundercatsarego · 08/10/2013 08:20

Oh dear merk!
I have a bag of borrowed maternity clothes (yes I'm that tight. Unfortunately the trousers aren't long enough so I may be forced to spend some money at some point) and looking at the labels lots are from asos and h&m. What about checking out their websites and seeing if they do next day delivery? Or have you got h&m near you that you could pop out to?

I'm still in bed feeling like crap. Such a headache today and awake most of the night. Can't work out what to do about work. Arse.

Thanks people. Am on a manic clothes hunt now.

Kat - the Seraphine dress is great - good spot. Although the third picture had me killing myself laughing childish

Thunder - I am v jealous of you having borrowed maternity clothes. Like Kat I am Angry at having to spend money on clothes I will wear for just a few months (despite loving shopping normally). Especially a winter coat as my current ones barely zip/button up already.
Kat to your question I have been in maternity jeans for weeks - my normal jeans wouldnt fit from about 10 - 12 weeks - and even if i squeezed into them and left them undone I found the position of the waistband was v uncomfortable on my stomach. I bought 3 v cheap pairs of over bump maternity jeans from H&M (in the sale) and have been pleased with them, they're comfy, long enough for me rare and somebody asked me the other day where they were from as they were lovely (I had to admit they were maternity jeans and therefore they probably wouldn't want to buy them for themselves!). In the last week or so I have gone from looking possibly pregnant, and able to hide it under a loose top to definitely pregnant and there's no hiding it under anything. Hence the sudden meltdown.

I shall report back on my maternity clothing finds!

Boomgoestheweasel · 08/10/2013 08:54

Morning folks! 12 weeks today here Grin Grin never thought I'd get this far!

Merk you could get some of those belly bands to go under your too-short tops in the short term? They'll cover the gap and I think Asda do them... or does that not solve the problem of minimising the bump?

I have to buy something for a funeral next week (I don't own much in the way of black!) but I begrudge spending money on something that won't fit soon. Or I hope it won't, this bump is not putting in an appearance yet despite everyone telling me I'll be huge by 12 weeks! Nope, there's no way you can tell I'm diffed just by looking...Confused. Anyway, going to pop to Asda and see if I can find a suitably sombre and cheap dress..

OP posts:
PoppySeedBun · 08/10/2013 08:59

Oh, merk!
What a rubbish start to the day :(
Can you buy some long vest tops/t-shirts that will cover up the gap and still allow you to wear a shirt or something smart over the top? I was looking at some on Next the other day, and I think they will do next day delivery.
The other thing I think is helping me is that skirts seem to be less of a problem - A-line ones - I can fasten the waist above the bump, and I think they make it look less obvious (although I guess I'll find out next week when I tell work and see who's already guessed!)

kat I feel you with the tiredness. I went to bed at 10 and only woke up once at 5 and I still feel like a complete zombie. Feel really guilty for really just doing the minimum to get through the day for the last few weeks.

blind thunder behind each window is ... Another vitamin tablet!! Although maybe there's something to be said for a proper advent calendar. Though I couldn't stand chocolate at the moment - maybe a water biscuit? Confused

MotherOfCleo · 08/10/2013 09:21

merk I remember those clothing stresses well, I got some over bump skirts which were a godsend in the summer. I think a wrap dress has seen many women through most of their pregnancy as they grow with you never found a nice one myself though

I can also suggest maternity leggings with a smart a line dress, worked wonders for me!

Could you try next, either next day or click and collect? Or even matalan, I got some nic bits from their maternity range.

I got most of my stuff off of ebay which wont help your immediate problem but it's definitely worth a look.

Thundercatsarego · 08/10/2013 09:24

Poppy- vitamins?! Rubbish!

merk I have a big flabby belly (not sure about calling it bump yet!) but I own lots of long tops which cover it fine. So you don't necessarily need maternity stuff for tops. I've got really long vest tops which I wear as base layers. Cheap and will last while the bump is undeniable but not big enough to fill those maternity tops which have big bump pouches.

Am still in bed. Head hurts.

Cavort · 08/10/2013 09:32

Merk I remember this well and you have my sympathies. I found the majority of maternity tops were pretty much sack-like, shapeless and made me look more pregnant than I actually was until I got a fairly big bump, so I personally found tops and dresses which were clingy and stretchy were actually much more flattering, even though when you're at that inbetween 'fat or pregnant?' stage clingy might be the last thing you feel like wearing. So I bought these tops which aren't the greatest quality but are the right price and lasted me well for the few months I needed them. If you're planning to BF these nursing tops might be a good buy as they're long and stretchy and you'll be able to wear them afterwards. I have them and they're quite nice (as maternity/nursing clothes go). I also did a sweep of the High Street and bought 4 or 5 non-maternity stretchy tunic-style tops which finished at the hip and solved the waistband exposure problem. I wasn't sure how long they would fit for but they ended up lasting me all the way to the end and stretched well over the growing bump.

Brodicea · 08/10/2013 10:47

Thanks for the links cavort and hello all! I am deffers in the fat stage, (10+3) and a friend has recommended smock tops although I'm not sure this will make it any better. Maybe tight is the way to go.

I have a very generous friend who has lent me some clothes (at her suggestion I hasten to add) that she has grown out of, but which are conveniently slightly bigger than I was. Another friend has lent me some maternity clothes, which I started wearing - but which do actually make me look worse (I the preggers tops) at this point (except the lovely maternity trousers which I have always secretly wanted to wear as I tend to bloat!).

I have my proper booking-in appointment today - weirdly nervous!

CatsCantFlyFast · 08/10/2013 12:35

Thank you all. Am still grumpy after trying almost all the websites from this list and not really finding what i needed!

Eventually did an Asos online next day delivery order, which seemed to be the only place that sold anything resembling more of a shirt and less of a smock. In my grumpy state I even managed to f* up my order; went to pay, decided to remove some things from the order, removed them, paid, then noticed I had removed the wrong things. Couldn't change order online so created new order with the things I originally wanted (plus a couple of extra things) resulting in me spending a fortune.

My challenge has been that I can't really wear anything other than a smart shirt to work; baggy tops, long sleeved T-s etc won't cut it. And yes, whilst I have lots of long vests, when my existing work shirts finish near the top of my bump i end up looking ridiculous! I am finding out of work clothing surprisingly easy - mat jeans or leggings with t shirts, jersey tops etc and a lot of my existing tops are fine when layered up with a belly band or a long vest. It just doesn't work for my office! Anyway hopefully I have solved this issue with some maternity blazers and some mat shirts/blouses.

In case anyone does need anything there is a sale on at Asos at the mo and quite a lot of their maternity stuff is in it. There was lots of half price mat jeans in different colours.

CatsCantFlyFast · 08/10/2013 12:52

Ffs just did a disappearing post. In short it said sorry for ignoring you all, hope headache goes, booking goes well, congrats on 12 weeks etc. I am now off to puke as my stomach has regressed to week 8.

Brodicea · 08/10/2013 13:46

Blargh merk sorry about the frustration and puking! My job does allow me to wear whatever so am quite lucky. I wish I had some advice regarding smart maternity wear... I hope the blazers work out.

Foodylicious · 08/10/2013 16:02

Hiya
Had to start wearing croptop bra in bed last night as boobs just feel wired.not felt too sick today though

Merk - how rubbish about the clothes, I suppose maternity wear in alot of places is just not as smart. What have your collegues worn? Have they stayed as smart when pg?
If you do get anything object they are really good at coming and picking up returns or you can have it delivered and return it to a store if you don't like it/doesn't fit.

Foodylicious · 08/10/2013 20:34

merk you looked at any of these?

Can I just have a mini-rant about my complete lack of brain at the moment??
Feeling like I'm just making the minimum decisions necessary to get through each day and doing no proper planning or thinking in advance. Has culiminated this evening in me cancelling an already-booked trip travelling to work, which was supposed to have me leave tomorrow and return Thursday, but only thought it through properly this evening and realised it makes no sense! Work will cover travel costs anyway, so no real harm done, but just makes me feel like a complete eejit and unable to plan my way out of a paper bag!
Sorry - rant off - helps to get it off my chest.
Does anyone know when I might get my brain back?? Confused

PoppySeedBun · 08/10/2013 21:29

(that should be travelling for work)

Um...hi. Not sure if I count as a "berry", got the over 30 part but haven't been ttc for very long. Anyway, am 8 + 6, according to lmp date, but probably more like 6 + 3. First pregnancy, bloody terrified about anything and everything. Feel fine, so I worry, feel sick and worry more.
New to MN too!
Hope everyone else is doing well....
