Welcome ladies, new and old. Grin May we all have dull and boring pregnancies. Pull up a chair, crack open a bottle of (non-alcoholic) wine and settle in for mutual handholding, fishslapping and neurosis.

Birds, that's lovely news. PFJ, hope your scan went well as well.

Rockchick, congrats on your wee girl!

I went to the GP on Monday to start off the paper trail for this pregnancy. The doctor was pleasant but impersonal, and I had been wishing I'd seen one of the more human versions and been able to wheedle an early scan for reassurance, so it was a fairly pleasant surprise to get a call from the hospital yesterday who booked me a scan at the early pregnancy unit* tomorrow. Unfortunately the DH can't make it because of the short notice, so I'm going to prepare myself for the wait at the hospital with a new book and something chocolate based for sustenance.

*aka the pit of despair and the end of all hopes, as all my previous scans there have been. I ought to have a bloody loyalty card for that place. Five scans and you get a free cake at the cafe, or something.

Snot glad to hear you are getting a scan. They can make early pregnancy less of a worry x

GardenIt's a Russian breed so Russian names are needed. Was thinking maybe katerina for a girl kitten. And not sure yet on boys - dh keeps throwing out stupid options- current favourite is Vladimir! We are hoping for boy kitten but wont rule out a girl if fall in love with one. Any ideas welcome :-)

shellsocks · 25/09/2013 10:41

Thanks everyone Smile I agree boys are so hard, still not convinced I'm brave enough to go for Stanley but I do really like it Smile We like Leo and Jack too but DH cousin has both of those so they are ruled out for us Hmm

Popularity doesn't really bother me bump I just wanna love the name
Like I did with DS Smile I love Matilda and agree it matches with your DD.

pink I really like Imogen but I ruled out Natalie for a girl which I liked as I don't like Nat as a nickname, which Natasha might get too, not sure if that helps you choose? Smile

Great scan news rock and congrats on having a girl, fab news Grin

Congrats birds bet you are on cloud nine right nowSmile

garden I would never be brave enough to use the names you like, I don't think I'm cool enough either! Damson is so lovely tho Smile What is your DDsname?

kjh5 · 25/09/2013 11:47

Awesome news Rock and Birds!! So happy to hear your scans went well. Hope yours was ok PFJ and good luck for tomorrow Omri.

I feel as if my 12week scan is never going to get here. On the bright side booking appointment this Friday, bloods next Friday and then the scan the following Friday (this is like a mantra I keep repeating to myself - along with the pregnancy check every morning: feeling sick - check, sore boobs - check, exhausted despite 10 hours of sleep - check, and the latest delight: clogged up, bloated stomach - check! I'm grateful, I really am...)

Thanks for all the itchy nip advice, I am currently swinging around in a bra full of E45 cream. DH thinks this is hilarious and is also horrified I sought advice for said problem on the interweb... if only he knew...

Jade1818 · 25/09/2013 12:49

Hi Smile
Just wondering if I could join this thread? I'm 39+1 weeks pregnant today and feeling really fed up!! This is my first pregnancy and I am so ready to meet my baby now!!! I've had enough of feeling so uncomfortable and sign searching for labour with every little twinge!! Haha

Does anyone else feel this fed up or is it just me????

TheNobodies · 25/09/2013 13:32

Rockchic, congratulations on your girl Smile

I've had a repeat scan this morning 6 weeks, everything was perfect and we even saw a flickering heartbeat Grin. Got another one next week!

Pentagon · 25/09/2013 14:20

oh nobodies great news! So happy for you!

kat I've had headaches with both my successful pregnancies, doesn't mean it's anything bad. When I had my missed miscarriage last summer, I felt really unwell and had a temperature. At the beginning of this pregnancy I felt the same and was terrified that it was all over again; but it wasn't, thank goodness! Take some paracetamol and I hope you feel better soon.

hi jade close to the finishing line I see! Good luck! I'm 34 going on 35 weeks at the moment so not feeling too fed up - don't want the baby to come so early!

Tomkat79 · 25/09/2013 14:37

kat try not to panic. I also had the most severe headaches when I MC last time but googled everything and could find no link. I'm putting these intermittent headaches down to fluctuating hormones.

omri · 25/09/2013 15:56

I had no headaches with my mmc and this pregnancy I have had horrendous headaches And all well so far. I think of it as a pregnancy symptom- try not to associate it with your mc - although easier said than done!

Pixielady83 · 25/09/2013 17:10

rockchick so exciting a little girl! nice to have one of each!

Yay for good scans for birds and nobodies and good luck omri and anyone else scanning tomorrow. kat sorry you feel rubbish, there are lots of viruses around do you think you could have caught something? I really hope its nothing more sinister than a cold starting.

Love these names ladies! garden I have never heard of Damson but its lovely. DH and I really struggle with names his are silly or dull while mine are beautiful but he calls them pretentious I'm finding it harder this time as I know so many more kids and more of our friends have used names up we liked! I love DD's name so much that I don't want to feel meh about this ones names. utterly uninspired by boys names, love Matthew but with our surname makes a crap tv person, also love Archie but DH won't have a diminutive Angry we both kinda like Rowan but its a bit 'that'll do'. Like Violet or Miranda for a girl but not totally in love with either. Then again, DD's name was only one I had thought was quite nice but when she was born she just looked like that name to me so hopefully that'll happen again!

saggy thinking about you and your DP today. Hope you are getting the time and space you need to process things.

CbeebiesIsMyLife · 25/09/2013 17:12

I had horrendous headaches with dd1 and 2's pregnancy so don't panic too much (although I know it's hard not to)

The body's associations can be crazy making. With my 1st pregnancy I started spotting the evening after taking some pregnacare tablets for the first time. I went on to miscarry and always blamed thoes tablets Confused in subsiquent pregnancies I haven't been able to take any tablets at all! If I do I throw them up again. The headache is caused by hormones, a sudden influx most probably, that's why you had it last time and why you have it this time, it's honestly not a sign of miscarriage xx

The cramping has eased and I've got horrible trapped wind and sickness today. At least it's a good sign things are going in the right direction. :)

GardenWorm · 25/09/2013 17:26

Shell DD's called Willow, not so wierd I suppose as there are a few now. That's why I always say pick a name because you love it and not just because you think it's unusual and there won't be another in their class at school (didn't know at the time but Pink - singer, not our thread Pink! - had her baby a couple of days before us and she's a Willow too so there suddenly seemed a whole load of Willows!)

Kat could you be dehydrated???? Don't panic, as the others have said they are a pregnancy symptom (as is pretty much everything else under the sun! Smile)

Fab news Nobods Grin and another scan in a week to keep the nerves at bay x

Jade not long now for you, most of us aren't so close to having a fully baked one! I think pretty much everyone on this thread has had a previous miscarriage, you are more than welcome to bide away your time with us but just bear in mind we're a bit apprehensive from time to time on this thread!

GardenWorm · 25/09/2013 17:28

Pixie Matthew Kelly is awesome! Wink

Lieslvontrapp · 25/09/2013 18:24

Congrats on the good scans birds & nobodies!

And congrats to rockchick on finding out the sex! I'm hoping to find out tomorrow as we have our 20 wk scan. Can't wait to see baby on the screen and check all is developing ok.

Good luck to omri for tomorrow too!

I think we are going to discuss names once we know sex as we just can't agree. I really like Archie James for a boy and esme for a girl. But don't think DH likes either!

Tomkat79 · 25/09/2013 18:32

I think some of these husbands need reminding who's gotta go through the birth!! I've said 'I carry it, I push it out...Therefore I choose the name'

I'm not really a total cow, but feel very strongly about this one Grin

BirdsDoIt · 25/09/2013 19:01

Thanks for the lovely messages everyone! Yes feeling really really happy and kat I am definitely feeling more relaxed. Not the panic won't come back - I expect it will in some form next week! - but there's something about seeing a miniature baby in such detail, even the heart and kidneys and bladder - and things like seeing the blood flow from me to the baby - that makes you think, ok, that looks pretty established in there. In fact I'm surprised how much better it has made me feel, as i was a total doubting wreck beforehand. I think my fear was mainly that there'd be no heartbeat and no baby at all, like last time. Last night I even almost had a conversation with DH about names (we haven't talked about that at all this pg) though once he launched into it enthusiastically I got a tad freaked out and said actually maybe it's a bit soon for that after all!! But I'm telling work this week and our families all know now, so it's beginning to feel more real. How long until your 12 week scan, kat? You weren't long after me I think?

kjh I measured out the looong wait till 12 weeks in milestones like that too! It will pass and if you're like me then you'll wake up on the morning of the scan and not want to go because it could mean the end of hoping All your symptoms sound very promising including the headaches! Definitely a pg symptom! I'm with you on the clogged up bloaty tummy - so horrible - at times I look 20 wks pg but having seen a 6cm baby yesterday I can confirm it is all wind Shock

liesl and omri good luck with your scans tomorrow! And snot too - brilliant you've got a reassurance scan. Keeping fingers crossed for you. I feel exactly the same about epu.

nobodies great to hear yours went well.

bod yay for baby cat!!

Sorry, epic post...I'm in the hairdressers!

Pixielady83 · 25/09/2013 19:02

tomkat to be fair after months of argument DH did say yes to the first name I came up with post birth think he would have agreed to most things at that point Wink although DD second name is his fave girls name.

garden think channel 5 and more dodgy and you'll be there Grin

liesel yay another scan to find out Smile hope everything is just fine. Do you have a preference. We're staying team yellow but I love hearing what others are having and forming my own totally illogical conclusions about what it means for mine! I have 2 friends 6 wks ahead of me both having girls so I'm thinking a boy for me. Totally illogical as I said!

GuffSmuggler · 25/09/2013 19:07

rock that's FANTASTIC NEWS!! Am so Envy at your extra scan, I have 3 weeks to wait until the 20 week, feels like an AGE. Although I've got the midwife on Fri so will get to hear the heartbeat then.

Also jealous you know your flavour, I would love to know but DH is adamant he wants a surprise so I'm going to go with that..

I've popped the last week, I feel MASSIVE and people are starting to notice my bump - I'm only 17 weeks!?

bodicea you crazy cat women! Sounds like a nuts plan to me but you are clearly going to love having another cat so it won't be a problem Grin

kat I'm sure the headache means nothing, keep positive.

saggy hope you're ok, thinking of you lots.

Tomkat79 · 25/09/2013 19:20

That's my next trick pixie get em at their weakest Wink

Glad you feel more relaxed birds, long May that continue. We have an 8 week scan booked for sat. Everytime I think about it I feel sick. Such a nervous time tinged with a little excitement.

What's the deal with pain in pregnancy?! Had my eyebrows threaded today and nearly hit the roof! Not usually like that at all but each hair felt like 10. Ouch. Apparently waxing more painful too, just wondering if anyone knows why?

BirdsDoIt · 25/09/2013 19:44

Re eyebrow pain. Because Mother Nature has it in for us?!

Will be keeping my fingers crossed for your 8 week scan! Lots happening on this thread at the moment.

pixie, I like that tactic, will have to try it if when I get that far! At the moment we're having back and forth debate about finding out the sex. DH in favour, I'd rather have a surprise because I'm convinced they might get it wrong and then we'll be disappointed! Ridiculous I know.

Pixielady83 · 25/09/2013 19:51

Argh tomkat you've just reminded me of how agonizing bikini waxes are in pregnancy, my skin got so sensitive last time Sad

guff 17wks here and proper bump too. Nice in some ways but I do feel a bit fat. So many friends haven't shown until 26+ wks!

BirdsDoIt · 25/09/2013 20:02

Quick question - my next scan is now booked for 22 weeks but the midwife had told me it would be at 20 weeks - I only realised thinking about it just now. Does anyone else have their second scan later than 20 weeks? Wondering now if I should query it or if having it a bit later is fine. Nhs website says it should be between 18-21 weeks...

Pixielady83 · 25/09/2013 20:06

Mine is bang on 20wks. I'm sure its fine to have it later but if I were you I would go back and ask for an earlier one because why should you have to wait that long- especially if you decide to find out the sex! Wink
